Exalted Sun Toys
First off, it’s a bitchin tabard. Best since the Scourge Invasion, no doubt. We’re still a jumble of colors, but that’s to be expected.
And this is the necklace a hunter can purchase once he reaches exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive, the Shattered Sun Pendant of Might (SSPoM). You’ve got to be exalted with Aldor/Scryers to make the proc work, though. Don’t bring your newbie 70 to MrT, run your rep to exalted with the Sun O, and expect to get this necklace working right away.
What’s going to happen when it procs? Well, it looks like this:
For us Aldor folks, the buff it gives is called Light’s Strength and it increases RAP by 200 for ten seconds. Want to see it working in a raid setting? Well, here ya go:
No trinket-popping, our RAP is a purty, sweet-smelling, raid-buffed 2496. Jenga, beyotches!
We one-shotted Morogrim in a little less than 10 minutes. Personally, we were sent to our Watery Grave one time. That took us out of combat for, what thirty seconds? In 9 minutes 30 seconds of pure, unadulterated DPS, how many times did our SSPoM proc? Well WWS has got that covered:
Light’s Strength proc’d twelve times in 9 1/2 minutes, which is the same frequency as Improved Aspect of the Hawk. That’s a pretty healthy proc-rate, and thus we don’t mind dropping our Hit Rating to 125 to keep it.
We Missed one shot against Morogrim in 9 1/2 minutes and gained 120 seconds - we’re assuming the LS-procs more than likely didn’t proc on top of each other - of an extra 200 AP. We’ll take it, cuddle it, and feed it puppy-treats. We likes our new necklace, we do, we do!
The SSPoM gets the BRK Growl of Approval.
And because we just can’t let a good epeening moment go by, here’s the WWS report from the Tidewalker kill. We are Phobos.
We would be remiss if we didn’t give props to the mages, especially Crucio who brought the Murlock-Smashing, AoE-Ban-Hammer in the form of 2001 DPS. Dude, you’re all uppity, and you earned it.

Wonder how the Scryer arcane strike will affect the wws…

I reached exalted with the Shattered Sun peeps just yesterday and treated myself to one of their fancy tabards and the instructions on how to make an Assassin’s Alchemist Stone. 398g for the two Nether Vortex, and a brief shadow mote-farming excursion was all it took to feel the delicious power of an extra 108 RAP.

I picked this up tonight, am scryer rogue, but after killing 20 mobs, not one proc. Hmm

Not to sound harsh or anything..but your ap was 2496 with the effect of the necklace pop…so raid buffed you sit at 2296
good job on the meters though.

Would love to see a Tidewalker movie. Our guild can’t manage to take him down… Getting the murlocks under control is a pain… We have 2 Holy pallies but no prot pally… might that be the reason?
Regards,
Camaxtli

Hey BRK, c’mon over to my house and set up my UI to look like yours k? Nice little trip to Canada never hurt anyone! lol

@Camaxtli
Do yourself a favour and get a prot palli. This is one of the most beneficial things you can do to a TK/SSC guild - Get a prot pally in, kit him up, let him aggro every one of those murlocs and after 6-10s of consecrate and them hitting him, the mages/locks/aoenukers can go nuts.
Your aoe nukers will love the prot pally in there as well.
Same goes for Al’ar, Solarian, Hydross and all the 8+ mob trash pulls in TK/SSC. It makes Morogrim trivial, as long as you’ve got a MT who can take the hits from him. On Al’ar, you can pretty much let a feral/warr kite the phoenixes to the paladin in P2 and he can just offtank all of them. This can be from the start of P2, or when Al’ar reaches a fixed % (30% is a good bet) to allow everyone to go max nukage on Al’ar himself.
And then you’ll also have a good thing for MH trash waves

Having gotten the new crossbow, which has +hit I can equip this little beauty when I get the critscope.
I’m Scryer though. But that might not be bad as it should get affected by Misery and Curse of Shadow. But I will agree that the Aldor version is better for solo and 5-mans.

The Foo alchemist stones were SO much better when they were an alchemist’s stone with an addition… as is, even 108 attack power really isn’t worth giving up something else. I’d rather keep my Bladefist’s Breadth for the crit and 200 attack power every two minutes. My druid was nearly drooling when the new alchemist stones appeared… dried up fast when all the stats went away.

As I understand it, the necklaces have an absurdly high proc chance (upwards of 75%), but a hidden cooldown of 45 seconds. That’s been my experience with the healer neck, anyway, and your WWS with the DPS one seems to match.
Just throwing some theorycrafting up there.

I’m curious about the Scryer proc as well, since I’m Scryer not Aldor. Think we could get some info on that at all?
@Grimbert
Prot pallies are not a requirement for the Tidewalker fight. My guild recently downed Tidewalker for the first time with Holy Pallies soaking up the damage from the Murlocs. I will say that these holy pallies are a tough bunch, as at least one of them Heal Tanks heroic boss mobs when the tank dies to something stupid (BF mostly, and the tank doesn’t run away)
It definitely would make it easier though and I have a feeling we’ll still need a good Pally Tank to progress in the next few instances.

i’m assuming that Crucio is your Arcane mage, who i’ve seen many times near the top of these WWS reports.

BRK, how much % of the fight you need to use Aspect of the Viper? (…and how many potins you have to drink during a 9-10 min battle? )
Felandra on 14 Apr 2008 at 11:33 pm #
The Scryer proc is as frequent as the Aldor. No more no less it seems. So in effect you get solid damage compared to AP. But the solid damage is affected by various outside effects more than the AP proc is.
And I can confirm that Curse of Shadow does indeed boost it. Got a crit just short of 1k with CoS.
Allisera on 14 Apr 2008 at 11:36 pm #
There’s been a lot of QQ over the Scryer version of the proc. I just picked mine up today, and have been playing with it, so I’m still reserving judgement. From what I have heard though (which may or may not be accurate) the Scryer version does a non-scaling arcane damage attack that hits for ~500 base damage, counts as a melee attack, and thus can be dodged/can crit/etc.
Keep in mind you have to be exalted with that faction (Aldor/Scryer) for the trinket to proc, so if it isn’t, that may be why.

I’m only a part-time Hunter. My main is a Mage and my guild is also on SSC. I’m dying to find out more about the mages in your Tidewalker run because those numbers are crazy good, but I can’t find them on the Armory at all! Any info you could provide would be appreciated!

Ok, gotta register a little complaint. The articles have been suffering lately. I honestly can’t tell friends to come here other than to look through past posts on important things pertaining to huntering.
Most everything these days is “BRK tops or is near the top of the WWS report and he either got new loot (see screenshots) or he gets mad about not getting loot”, “Here is my rundown of my last 20 arena matches which has us in the 1500-1600 rating which makes us not all that bad and not really all that great either” or “The guild downed a new boss, here are the loots and WWS reports”.
I realize RL is in full swing and AC is kicking some ass, but the loot and WWS strutting is starting to get a little old imo. I’d almost rather not see updates when you’re swamped than a never-ending stream of posts about your new loot.
Sorry, BRK. You know I’m a fan, but three loot-brags in a row was a bit much.
