Cr@p We Spent A Lot Of Gold
Al’ar down. Yahtzee, foshizzle! AC is now 3/4 in Tempest Keep, Kael and Vashj are all that stands between us, Mount Hyjal, and a clear conscious.
The hunter trinket dropped. We screwed up our DKP-bidding and the hunter who has everything from SSC and TK got it. We would’ve punched the computer into a new dimension if we could have. We were madder… d@mn it this is a game and we were so mad… we shouldn’t have gotten so mad, but we did… we’re pathetic sometimes, we admit it.
/sigh
After three wipes on the very-buggy Void Reaver, we got him down and the hunter loot flowed. First off, we got these for a song:
They were a cheap, small upgrade, so we took them. We were not planning on taking a shot at one of the two Hero tokens that dropped, so we didn’t see a problem with spending a little DKP for a pair of leggings that would let us re-gem properly.
As we said, two Hero tokens dropped, but we weren’t going to bid on them because we really wanted the T5 leggings. Our new shoulders that we just spent more than 1000 gold on were fine with us, and we weren’t going to outbid the other hunter who has had horrible loot-luck along with us.
We stayed out of the bidding until he got outbid at a low price, and we couldn’t pass them up so cheaply. We got a pair and here they are compared to our “old” Leatherworking shoulders:
The big thing with Tier 5 for hunters is the 2-piece set bonus, which we now have: gloves and shoulders. Healing our pet 15% of our damage is insane. We can’t wait to see this in action.
And what kind of damage are we going to do? We gemed our shoulders and leggings and regemed our gun. Another Greater Inscription of Vengeance for our shoulders. A Nethercobra Leg Armor for the new legs. The meta gem is still active, all socket-bonuses are active, and although our Hit Rating is a little low for our taste, the encroachment toward 2000 RAP makes our mouth water.

Chesko on 14 Apr 2008 at 11:55 pm #
Why would you even want that Trinket? It doesn’t affect your auto shot which makes it fairly useless other than to say you have it.
For the Pie on 15 Apr 2008 at 12:13 am #
I got the gloves today on our first kill of Leo. I had them on for our wipefest of learning the Lady V fight. I have over 8k Overhealing on that fight alone. Now I gotta get back to the hit cap.
Nick S. on 15 Apr 2008 at 12:22 am #
i’m with Chesko. my Hunter knowledge being tiny, i am perhaps missing a piece of the puzzle, but it looks like that trinket is likely to add about 80 damage per proc - surely there’s something better out there?
gratz on all the loot, though. i got my first Loot Reaver attempt the other day - some nubbins kept dying in the bright blue death-orbs, but we’ll get him

The hunter trinket dropped for us this weekend. Not one of the 3 hunters in the raid wanted to use our Suicide kings list position on it so it went to open roll. I rolled but didn’t win it.
It seems a fairly meh trinket to me.. even though I do use Arcane in my shot rotation. I wouldn’t use points or what have you on it when I could have a shot at T5. Show us the math and prove me wrong BRK!
Zball on 15 Apr 2008 at 1:28 am #
So the point of this entire post was to say that you wasted lots of gold on a pair of shoulders you won’t even use anymore?
That sounds a lot like my luck.
bob on 15 Apr 2008 at 2:03 am #
no worries BRK, that trinket is garbage. I’ve had it sitting in my bag for some time but have never used it
where’s the N52 review?!

The only thing I ever spent that much gold on was my flying mount! Perhaps I just need more gold.
Congrats though!

More importantly, were you wearing your disguise when you killed a’lar??
Grats on the two set bonus. I superglued my T5 gloves and shoulders on….I’m not sure they will come off now. That bonus is very HOT (lol). The neatest thing about it is that it still works when your pet is out of LOS or range to toss a mend pet. quite helpful at times!
I wouldn’t worry too much about the trinket. It’ll come in time, I’ll pick it up eventually, as I missed out on the BWL warlock trinket back in the day and kinda regretted that every once in a while. (I’m a reformed warlock, turned BM hunter, cloned as a druid). =)

I always advise hunters not to freak out too much if they drop a little +Hit. You only need it for boss fights.
So eat Warp Burgers for trash (if that’s your thing), and then Spicy Hot Talbuk before the boss fights to get yourself hit capped.
Corwin on 15 Apr 2008 at 5:29 am #
and it’s not as important to stay hitcapped for hunters as for kitty druids for instance, if you miss a shot - you only loose some dps, if kitty misses a shred or rip, or even a mangle(if no druid tank present), then it screws up our whole special attack rotation and gimps dps a lot

Grats on the VoidPants, They are very shiney.
If i was in your position i would have spent 100 heroic badges on the new pants from Shattered Sun and saved your DKP for the Kael Cloak or Ring
I was lucky enough to win the Bow-stitched Leggings from Azgalor along time ago but the 100 bagde pants are very similar and have Hit ratng where the Hyjal pants have crit
Grats again and keep up the good work
Chromaoran on 15 Apr 2008 at 7:21 am #
I’ve heard it’s the worst trinket in the game. Has it been changed for the better?
Yeah I’d have just waited for the badge legs or T5.
Felandra on 15 Apr 2008 at 7:54 am #
That trinket truly does suck…
Be happy you lost BRK and the other Hunter wasted DKP on it. It is worse than Core of Arkelos or Bladefists Breadth. No point in ever using it since Autoshot isn’t affected.
I’m not sure the SoLR are worse than T5, 2.35% haste is pretty heavy if you can manage it. It is 2.35% more DPS. I really doubt the other stats on the T5 shoulders make up for that. But of course the 2-set bonus is awesome, and I would personally go for it too, just for pure yummyness. But as soon as I got T5 #3 I would get my SoLR back on.
Eszti on 15 Apr 2008 at 8:05 am #
As the hunter that won the trinket in miss Jez’s raid, I can say that I thoroughly dislike it. Others have noted here it doesn’t proc on Auto Shot. If you look at this (http://blue.cardplace.com/newcache/us/1272262726.htm) blue post by Hortus (tracked by WoW BlueTracker) it does not work on Auto Shot; another blue post by Pavonum that I unfortunately can’t find right now also says that it was never intended to work on Auto Shot.
All in all, I’m pretty disappointed with the trinket and glad that none of the hunters were willing to lose her in the SK list to get it. Compared to the priest trinket - Earring of Soulful Meditation which gives me 300 Spirit on command every two minutes for a beautiful 312 mana regen OO5SR, yum yum! - this is pretty much trash or very sitational use. In extended fights Arcane Shot isn’t worth the consistent use since as a Beast Mastery hunter I prefer to remain in Aspect of the Hawk for that proc and down frequent mana potions rather than gimp myself using Aspect of the Viper the entire fight - which means that I don’t have the flexibility to cast Arcane Shot frequently enough to make use of this trinket. I tend to weave in Arcane Shots if grouped with a Shadow priest (exceedingly rare), shorter fights, against high armored targets, and as my Oh-noes-I’m-running-from-some-sort-of-damage-shoot-on-the-run damage.
I assume I’d get much more use out of this trinket if I PvPed more where the fights typically are much shorter and I’m prone to use Arcane Shot every time it is up. I’ve also met some Marksmanship and Survival hunters who do like this trinket. I’ll have to do a Dr. Boom test though to verify its (lack of?) effectiveness.
SSC on 15 Apr 2008 at 8:48 am #
Why would you want haste with your current weapon anyway? seems like a waste of 1k gold. even more so now you got the t5 shoulders. If you were using the new badge xbow, it would be a different story.

BRK’s prone to fits of whimsy and impulse, due to a little something called G.A.S (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

try not to sweat that which you don’t get….in the end your guild is stronger for having that gear somewhere among the ranks, even if not on your toon.
afallach on 15 Apr 2008 at 10:16 am #
That and he’s proven time and time again that he views effeciency alot different than alot of hunters do. Most hunters will use a steady auto macro and not use many more shots outside of that, but with BRK he’s a constant pot guzzler and will fire every single shot he has and still bring the pain. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so good but all in all no one can argue with his results. So i’m sure if something messes up his steady auto rotation he’ll make up for it somewhere else.

Awesome loot. Myself, I passed on the legs to a hunter in the guild the first downing for VR. I am hunter lead and was trying to gear my guys up. Little did I know that he would eventually leave us for some BS reasons. Sad to say I kick myself now. Since VR is very buggy we don’t really do him that much anymore. Oh Well, I still have… no nevermind… I should have spent the DKP

Why on earth would you even want that crappy crappy trinket? And why did you gem for attack power, wasting a perfectly good red socket? :/
Mageskinner on 15 Apr 2008 at 12:31 pm #
Grats BRK, funny thing is I got my T5 Shoulders last night too! Also, don’t stress that trinket. You are better off with some crit trinks (battlemaster & hourglass) or some RAP ones (battlemaster & bloodlust), or of course you could even go with Haste if you want to push the haste rating envelope (DST & abacus). Any/All of those are better IMO.
Cheers,

@Sade
Yeah, I’ve looked through all of those….maybe I missed something….but I didn’t see any UI adds once I clicked them. The Ace adds go to the general page, maybe it was one of them?
Eszti on 15 Apr 2008 at 1:27 pm #
@Gretadelle
The link Sade provided is an excellent source describing the DKP system, but I don’t think it covers the idea of bidding (which, until reading a number of blogs by AC’s members I had never even heard of!). In traditional DKP systems, points are assigned to people based on a variety of conventions, whether it’s performance, attendance, attempts, or loot that is purchased. These points are then used to purchase loot. All of the DKP systems that I have participated in use set values of DKP per item; if you want to purchase an item, a certain amount of DKP that was assigned prior to the raid is required. This is usually a static number that remains consistent from raid to raid.
AC does something a little different. Rather than spending a specific amount of DKP on an item each week, raiders are invited to assign their own amount to each item. A raider who values an item highly will bid a large number of DKP (and sometimes even all of his DKP) in order to ensure that he will obtain the item; another raider who would like the item but doesn’t value it as much may bid a lower amount of DKP. Think of it as an auction, where the currency is DKP and the items you’re bidding on are shiny epics dropped by raid bosses.
Their variation is a zero-sum DKP variation known as Swaps (http://www.boomchucka.com:8080/Uplink/aboutswaps.jsp). Since I’ve never used this loot system before I really can’t go much more in detail on it. Hope this helps!

Dear Mr. BRK
Congratulation on killing Al’ar! The same goes out to all of AC.
I have a concern with the above picture of the Al’ar kill. As a warlock my minion’s happiness is a moot point. The picture shows that Hobbes is not happy. I find this distressing indeed.
I am left to think what made Hobbes so unhappy. Was Hobbes fed a bad batch of Kibler’s Bits? Or got sick off a stringy Troll? Or was he punished for getting his toes painted again? Or is BRK in debt to the Goblins and cannot afford food for Hobbes?
As I tell all my hunter friends. You should go check out bigredkitty.net. There are some good huntering basic videos. May contain everything you already know but it is always good to get a refresher course.
Sincerely yours,
Hydra
For the Pie on 15 Apr 2008 at 7:33 pm #
Let me clear up some misconceptions.
Hobbes is not unhappy, he is happy, he’s just not content. He could have just dropped from content to happy. He could have died during the fight and he was rezzed to continue to chew on firey birds etc. Doesn’t mean BRK is ignoring him or abusing him. Lots of times during long fights, I notice my pet is happy and not content, nothing you can do, since apprently Blizz hates hunters.
@Nik,
BRK’s UI is self made using those addons. In fact all UI are made using similar if not the same addons. It’s really better to make up your own, as you know what it does and when it breaks because we needed a new patch etc. you know what needs to be updated.
Asirae on 15 Apr 2008 at 8:45 pm #
Just looked at your raid grouping for Al’ar. As I am melee I always look at that first to see how raiders roll with melee.
I love the Fury warrior w/Feral Druid combo, but I think your raid melee dmg can be increased with the following setup:
Optimal Melee DPS grouping:
Samsquamsh - enhancement shaman (grants +AP, +WF to melee players in party group)
Tovek - fury warrior (+AP)
Kelektra - feral druid (+Crit)
Doomilias - rogue
Deoin - rogue
I can see Tovek’s dps going up as well as the Rogues. If Samsquamsh wants to Twist Totems (i.e. http://enhancementshaman.wordpress.com/2008/02/20/twisting-totems ) then that Draenei can grant both Agility & Windfury for rogues and warriors.
Good luck with the rest of SSC/TK. You guys seems to be having fun and rocking the Outlands!
Felandra on 15 Apr 2008 at 11:02 pm #
For the Pie, erhm… Joke? (no sarcasm there)
Well, the ranks of pet happiness is: Unhappy -> Content -> Happy.
Hobbes is Content. But yes a lot of things can cause that. The more the pet fights, the more happiness it loses, or something like that. So on long fights there is often nothing to be done about it. And dead pets can’t be fed if you are in combat (damn you Blizz for ruining that, and you still haven’t given the fix for it as you promissed).
Or more likely, BRK just forgot to top Hobbes off before the fight. I can’t the number of fights I have gotten into where I send my pet in and on the way to the target it changes to Content. ARGH! 20% loss of pet DPS right there with no solution to it.
Medwyn on 16 Apr 2008 at 1:11 am #
Re: Hobbes
If you look at BRK and then at Hobbes…BRK has buffs, Hobbes doesn’t. Therefore, Hobbes more than likely died and got rezzed mid fight to continue his rampage!

I forgot to ask in my last post above who topped the damage meters in the Al’ar fight BRK?
This fight seemed to favour the locks in our guild and I was pleased to be included in the top 3 positions overall.
VR is a bitch of a fight now and it quite the opposite to the Al’ar one, with VR favoring the melee classes and all the ranged running round like silly buggers avoiding the damn orbs and looking up at VR’s robotic head!

About the unhappy or not content pet u sometimes get during a fight or definetly will get if u have to rez him in battle i use a little trick for that, if u brought alot of sporeling snacks or kiblers bits u can use those in combat untill your pet has a big smily face back up.
Aslong as u have enough for the remains of the raid we all now how easy it is getting more buzzard meat and definetly a trick worth using // Manekk
