We’re Thinking

TJ » 21 April 2008 » In Blog, PvE »

That there’s just too much badge-loot in the game now. Clearing Kara seven times, or one heroic daily a day for a month, now has the same loot-cache as clearing SSC and TK. Isn’t there something wrong with that?

That the skinning daily is our favorite. We love farming those Clefthoofs.

That we made a Buttload o-Gold off of selling Clefthoof leather once the badge-vendor appeared. Stacks that normally sold for 40 gold were being snapped up for 70 gold.

That the Russians almost chunked another Soyuz, and in our line of work, that’s a Bad Day.

That there is no better two-piece set bonus than hunter Tier 5 for any class, period.

That our new work computer has Office 2007 and the new Outlook interface both frightens and angers us. We just want to print!

That when FreeRefills updated and broke, we were furious that we had to manually buy our ammo.

That we just discovered the goggles-daily this weekend. /bashful

That thunderstorms do not cause oil changes. (This is from a TJ-conversation, if you didn’t guess it.)

That our wind serpent, DrMooPhD, and our unnamed ravager, have been stuck in the stables and probably always will be.

That the Hellfire Peninsula dailies are the worst in terms of being so far out of the way, and are always the last ones we do.

That we updated Omen before entering a 5/6 cleared SSC, and by the time we finished assembling for Vashj, it had updated again.

That we got a new C++ development platform and it took us an entire day to figure out how to make a HelloWorld console app.

That the N52te review is basically done, but we need moar time!

That BRK/Team Ratshag has developed a new race course for the Running of Da Bulls. It involves Ogrimar and Undercity, but not Stormwind.

That we rocked our elemental-add and core-chucking duties against Vashj.

That we don’t care what Cheeky says, we want the gun from Al’ar tonight.

That it’s about time we took Ratshag the Spriest through an instance, yes?

That someone sent us a picture of a gaggle of Blood Elf cheerleaders, and though we don’t know what our BRK Misogynist rating would be if we posted it, we’re pretty sure it wouldn’t be good. But it is a good picture.

That Mrs BRK has started fleecing the hairy… um, started working at her new job and is doing great.

That we’ll be more excited to kill Vashj next week than get the first boss in Mount Hyjal.

That we ran our last raid with six druids, four shaman, three hunters, healers, tanks, paladins, and no rogues. What are we now, mini-Nihilum?

That our kiting-shammy has a “ZOMG HEAL ME!” macro because he doesn’t have a microphone. The raid leader put a blue square over his toon. From our elemental-squishing perch, we see him kiting his strider past us while screaming “ZOMG HEAL ME!” A hunter would never, ever scream for heals while kiting, that’s all we’re saying.

BEWARE, PC-13 VIOLATION IMMENENT!!

That when one of our guild’s mages, Kneigrodamus, got his name reported and banned, he changed it to… Tossmysalad.

Did everybody survive that? OK, moving on.

That we need to do three things:

  1. Sponsor a BRK Art Contest.
  2. Find out of a Hunter Glossary has been done already.
  3. Make Target stock those yummy cranberry bread-crackers again.

That our BRK Hunter Guide Movie of Hydross is done. And we hate it. We’re gonna redo it.

That if you want really good franchise Italian grub, Romano’s Macaroni Grill > Olive Garden, and RMG > Carrabba’s, but Buca di Beppo is still the best.

That sometimes well get a buff or a mana-regen and we have no clue how or why we’re getting it. We don’t know what it is, who’s providing it to us, but we squeal like a little girl when we see it in our scrolling combat text.

That we have seriously considered doing away with our 2/2 in Improved Mend Pet since we got 2x Tier 5 gear, but the cleansing effect of the IMP is so awesome that we’re not gonna do it.

That we miss TJ raiding.

that you should go back to doing arenas! I miss reading about that :/

  2. Pike on April 21st, 2008 11:31 am

As someone who is newer to the game, I gotta admit it does feel weird to know that pushing through Kara for the first time and getting all this great loot from Kara… probably does not compare to some of the badge stuff and arena stuff. It’s an odd feeling. It’s sorta one of the reasons why I’m looking forward to WotLK.

But that said, I still love doing Kara with my guild just for the challenge and the fun, even if we’re like the last guild on earth still doing Kara.

I am proud of all my stuff that I’ve obtained through different means but I think I am most proud of the stuff I’ve obtained through PvE with my guild. That’s why I always log out in Beast Lord Helm and not in my shiny purple PvP helm. (Not to mention I <3 the Beast Lord trap bonus.)

  3. Ahoni on April 21st, 2008 11:33 am

I’m thinking I don’t miss the arena round up at all. Usually made for a quick BRK read … arena blah blah blah .. oh well. come back tomorrow.

Free refills works still. I use that for ammo, food, and water. Easy to use; go to a vendor that sells what you want.

    Type /fr add

Close and reopen the vendor, watch your items appear.

Also, you could train your holy pallies to judge wisdom on the bosses every 30seconds. Then, when you are shooting said boss, you have a really good chance to get 74 mana back. That’s half the mana for steady shot, right? Which means you can go twice as long before you need to switch to mana regen mode (most bosses you’ll stay at 80% + ).

  5. Indy on April 21st, 2008 11:43 am

I may have to hate all hunters with 2 piece T5 gear. I don’t think envy is strong enough…. :P

Once I got the sunfury attack plans, I’d fly straight across the void to Hellfire and the dailies there. Blade’s Edge for mana cells -> Netherstorm for plans -> Hellfire seemed to work well for me.

  6. Vulpinor on April 21st, 2008 12:00 pm

I’ve found a nice, time-saving daily loop to be to pick ‘em all up in Shatt, grab the fishing daily and venture off to Hellfire. Once I do those, it’s attack plans, mana cells, ogri’la if I feel like it then to nagrand for the goggles. Quick trip back to shatt and then I hope for some badges in my party favours.

  7. Fearstalker on April 21st, 2008 12:05 pm

Dailies in Hellfire?.. umm… any shattered Sun packs from them?.. otherwise there are too many dailies already.. I just try to do the ones from shatt, and if time the ones on the island…

  8. Boffors on April 21st, 2008 12:23 pm

Skinning daily? Are you referring to the nether residue collection quest? If you are I clear that one up mining as I move around doing my outland dailies, and if I don’t have it finished when I get to Skettis I kill warp stalkers for warp burgers and I get my nether residue while skinning them and restocking on agility buff food.

  9. Nick S. on April 21st, 2008 12:27 pm

badge gear… yes. i’ve pondered the fact that badge gear outstrips most everything from kara, gruul’s, and mags. it bothers the part of me that refuses to skip a workout day just because of a measly sprained ankle. on the other hand, my guild went from clearing kara to attempts on void reaver (10% on our 2nd night in TK ever!) in about 48 hours, largely thanks to badge gear.

so i can’t really nail down my thoughts on that one.

i played with Rawr until the wee hours last night… judgement of wisdom completely pwns. on VR, if Rawr is right, a steady JoW means almost 100 extra dps for each of the mages over the course of the fight. i think we might start bringing a ret pally…

    @fearstalker
one of the hellfire dailies gives supplies, but they’re both quite easy and so worth it IF you have the epic flyer to get there zippy-like.

  10. Kelektra on April 21st, 2008 12:32 pm

BRK, that buff, or mana-regen as you called it is a result of both of our healypriests having an enchant called Spellsurge. “Permanently enchant a Melee Weapon to have a 3% chance on spellcast to restore 100 mana to all party members over 10 seconds.” So, if you have either of our healypriests in your group, you gets this buff :) Fancy, eh?

  11. Deathrender on April 21st, 2008 12:38 pm

RMG is teh awesome! That 9 layer lasagna is heaven on a plate. We also have a Carraba’s in the area but I’ll have to agree that RMG pwns it. Olive Garden is for scrubs anyways..

    Anyways..

    RE: Hellfire Dailies

    BRK,

I’ve gotten in the habit of getting the SSO and cooking quests in Shat, picking up the fishing quest, and going to Hellfire. This way I feel like Hellfire is just on the way to Netherstorm. Since I get the fishing quest first, I feel like I’m almost there.

Often the fishing quest can be done in Hellfire (bonus), and the cooking quest is in Netherstorm.

  14. For the Pie on April 21st, 2008 12:52 pm

BRK you could prolly drop 1 point in Imp Mend Pet, 25% per tick to remove the w/e is causing our pet to take damage? I’d say good to go.

Heck I respecced Survival and kept my pet alive during Nightbane just on the heals from damage, while it had to sit in Scorched Earth due to Nightbane being a pain in the butt. Well until I got feared and into the tail smack and the pet took too much damage for me to get it back.

  17. saphia on April 21st, 2008 1:35 pm

Ever since I got a dessert lasagna from Olive Garden and the waitress set it down and immediately picked it back up saying - “oh, I forgot to microwave it and it’s still frozen solid” when it was described as being made in store daily - I’ve believed Olive Garden is the pits.

Now Johnny Carino’s or Carrabas = yum

  18. Sonvar on April 21st, 2008 2:04 pm

I disagree on the badge loot stuff. Yeah its a great gear upgrade if you aren’t far into 25 man raids but most of the equipment has something wrong with it that don’t make it ideal. Like the Chocobow (thanks Pike) has a 2.8 speed. While ok for BM hunters its not the ideal 2.7 or 2.6 speed but the speed it bad for MM or Survival hunters. The feral druid pieces all have haste and no defense rating to them to make you at least uncritable.

  19. Bazz on April 21st, 2008 2:05 pm

You are right to be more exited about your up and coming Vashj kill the MH. Our guild 1 shot all but Archimonde before killing Vashj last night and while the MH loot might be better wiping Vashj after a few hours of wiping felt so damn much better.

And I have to agree about the setbonus, dont really see me doing away with that even when I have access to tier 6 loot.

  20. Deadrabit on April 21st, 2008 2:13 pm

Long time reader first time poster and i say. you can’t do that. “Tease and pull away”. Just not proper of a fine gentalman dwarven hunter like yourself to teast like that.

you have to post a link even just in this comments section. We want’s to see the BE cheerleaders. So says the female dwarven hunter.

we needs a good chuckle. (points finger and giggles at Skinny BE lock that walked by)

Deadrabit, Thorium Brotherhood (US Server farm)
    P.S.
(who agree’s with you about slow/stop mana use in shot rotation when low on mana.)

  21. Feist on April 21st, 2008 2:14 pm

Elemental Shaman 2 pc t6 has a more ridiculous set bonus than hunter 2 pc t5.

    Seriously. Go look it up.

Rogue 2 pc t6 is basically just 80 haste rating. Not flashy, but dayummmm.

  22. Flaime on April 21st, 2008 2:19 pm

That there’s just too much badge-loot in the game now. Clearing Kara seven times, or one heroic daily a day for a month, now has the same loot-cache as clearing SSC and TK. Isn’t there something wrong with that?

No. Takes 7 times as long to get that gear doing Kara as it does doing SSC/TK/MH/BT. Besides, I’d rather not have to rely on a random number generator that just a month ago (after almost 9 months of doing TBC raiding) granted me the T4 gloves (I’d never even seen the druid gloves drop before).

That the skinning daily is our favorite. We love farming those Clefthoofs.

Is this the nether residue quest or some other quest?

  23. Bachus on April 21st, 2008 2:20 pm

Whats this about a badge-vendor resulting in big demand for Clefthide?

  25. Awlbiste on April 21st, 2008 3:04 pm

“That the Russians almost chunked another Soyuz, and in our line of work, that’s a Bad Day.”

Not to mention a very news-worthy Korean astronaut along with it - that would have been a Very Bad Day.

  27. ShatteredMoon on April 21st, 2008 3:16 pm

I agree with previous posters. Badge loot brings an element of predictability to the gearing-up process.

Also, on a side note, the plural of shaman is “shamans.”

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/shaman

  28. Mudge on April 21st, 2008 3:42 pm

I dont understand the big increase price for Clefthide leather … is there a vendor selling patterns for BoJ or something?

  29. Lamaa on April 21st, 2008 4:50 pm

I think that is the point of the badge gear; to throw a bone to people who play their class well but have piss poor luck getting raid loot due to the randomness of it. (Both the randomess of the drop itself and the way you can somehow fall way behind in dkp if you miss the wrong raid)

  30. dr00ds?! on April 21st, 2008 5:36 pm

“The feral druid pieces all have haste and no defense rating to them to make you at least uncritable.”
None of the tier gear for druids has defense either, it’s not really a big deal - that’s what resilience is for.

  31. Hellyardsown on April 21st, 2008 5:42 pm

omg, i ran heroic sv last night got the leggings to match my shoulders, the bow, and the green gem…. but i was oom once the boss was at 18%, but somehow i was getting mana too… and idk how cuz we had 3 pallies and a lock… and me. so idk wtf is up with it but it kept my steady shots goin til my super mana potions cooldown was up. ^.^ (btw I’m a pretty fresh 70 lol)

  32. Flath on April 21st, 2008 6:00 pm

    Macaroni Grill > Carrabba’s > Olive Garden

Also, as someone who has a limited number of nights to raid during the week, it’s disturbing to me that I’m actually considering skipping out on TK night (especially since we’re skipping VR till he’s fixed) and going on Kara night instead. But the badge loot is just too good to pass up, and 22 > 4. (I mean seriously, Maiden drops as many badges as Al’ar? That’s just silly.)

  33. Indy on April 21st, 2008 6:23 pm

    I do like Olive Garden’s salad, though….

  34. Naissa on April 21st, 2008 6:27 pm

I’m cranky at the badge loot, but for a different reason. I may have to get the less good OLD badge pants instead of the shiny new ones because they’re hideously ugly. Green/Yellow + Ugly Skulls > Bright Red/Orange clown pants. Could just be me though!

I’m thankful for the badge loot though. We’ve been clearing Karazhan for like…forever, and Nightbane has only dropped his breastplate twice that I know of. Never since I’ve been trying to get it. He dropped it for the second Kara group this week though, but not MY Kara group. So I went ahead and dropped 100 badges on the new badge breastplate.

Nevermind the n52te review. Post belf cheerleaders pic pronto!

I would dearly love to read Ratshag’s take on a Ratshag/BRK outing. Wow, what great fodder. You’d need a 3rd prominent WoW blogger with a distinctive personality for maximum fun, I reckon. But, what do I know, I’m just a humble troll, mon.

  36. Vortex on April 21st, 2008 7:51 pm

    Kelektra,
It could be multiple things including Spellsurge, Drums among other things.

About the Badge gear, the reason they added it was to give everyone the chance to get through all the PvE content.
And level the competition when WoTLK comes out so everyone has a fair chance to not get owned and progress at the same rate.

They will probably do the same thing at the end of WoTLK as well.

  37. Walkere on April 21st, 2008 9:40 pm

I want T5 for my Hunter. /drool. Although the T4 Mage set is awesome for PVP. Uninterrupted Frostbolt casting? Can’t beat that.

I love doing the goggle daily on my Paladin, because it gives me an excuse to farm some Motes of Air with my Mote Extractor. But I consider everything else not on the island a waste of time… if those compact dailies aren’t enough, I’ll switch to a new character and do them all over again.

  38. Felandra on April 21st, 2008 10:01 pm

I do the badge-possbile dailies every day, and from there on I just do what strikes my fancy. Generally the progression dailies.

FreeRefills broke?? Mine has never stopped working on any of my alts. I’ve considered giving Reagent Restocker a go, though, just to have something with an actual interface. Slash commands are getting a bit passe with such an old mod. Also, it auto repairs so I could conceivably get rid of Durability_Fu at the same time.

Jeez, what kind of platform is that? :| Give me vi and gcc (or gpp, I guess, in this case?) over that nonsense.

And I still say that Tier 2.5’s 5-piece set bonus is amazing, and I wish I could pair that with 2/2 Rapid Killing. :P
