Rage? More Like Yawn
Al’ar smacked us around, we forgot to put on our Ashtongue disguise one time, and of course that’s the time Al’ar died. No hunter loot, nothing amazing, more frustrating than anything else. The delay made us have to choose between Solarian and Mount Hyjal.
Well of course we went to see Rage Winterchill.
One shotted him. From what we understand, and experienced, this is no big deal. Again, no hunter-loot, and our DPS was crappy.
We were asked to kite some of the mobs into the NPCs behind us. Otay, we did that. Didn’t seem to help much as our warlocks and mage made mincemeat out of the trash. We got to Volley and use Explosive Trap a few times, but otherwise we just single-targeted the main-tank’s target and burned it down.
Aetherial Circle is a Mount Hyjal raiding guild. Hooray. We knew it was going to be anti-climactic, but not this much.
Can’t wait until Wednesday and more SSC!

You should also have no trouble with the second boss and the first two bosses of bt whenever your guild feels up to heading in there.
Grats :]
For the Pie on 22 Apr 2008 at 8:52 am #
We found that the second boss is more of learning your spacing etc, for the infernals. A few wipes figuring out where to get people spaced so that not everyone eats the swarm is a good thing. Positive to a few wipes is you get a nice amount of rep with Sands of Time. +10 agility gems please!

Well, gratz I guess.
Now which type of healers did you put on Ice Bolt healing?

Btw, the proper way the Hyjal is kill Kael and Vashj
It doesn’t matter, if there is no attunement.
So, after clearing TK and SSC, you WILL be a Hyjal raiding guild.
Good luck for that
One suggestion: On Anatheron, leave pet on Anatheron, while you killing the infernals

It’s funny BRK you act is like it’s no big deal but really getting to Hyjal is. I mean my guild is still in Kara and have been trying to get into 25mans for quite awhile now. I bet half the people in the guild would gladly leave if given the chance to do a 25man. Don’t act like it’s just something like “Oh big whoop were here but I still don’t have what I want *whaa*” Thought you would be better then that BRK.
WB on 22 Apr 2008 at 9:59 am #
Yeah, Rage is a pushover. Biggest challenge is learning to clear trash the first time, even with a prot pally.
GRATZ! to the warrior who picked up the Shoulders. Those things rock!
We don’t waste precious epic Hunter DPS on kiting. Have your prot warrior and feral druids peal off a couple and pull those over to the NPCs. Heck the Prot warrior has nothing to do until the boss arrives anyway. You should be blasting away merrily at the dog-pile on the prot pally.
Back to more SSC = wiping on LadyV. That fight is a bigger challenge than the first two in BT/MH. 3/4 generators last night. @$&#!

How many toons, if any, in the raid had the ‘Medallion of the Alliance’ equipped?
gratz!
Grumpier than ususal on 22 Apr 2008 at 10:03 am #
After a year of grinding, rerolling and leveling a 2nd toon to 70, pounding my head into the wall of kara/gruuls/mag I am finally heading into SSC for the first time this week after the reset. Wanna trade?
Corwin on 22 Apr 2008 at 10:13 am #
you don’t need medallion for Rage, it’s good if you have it and can react fast enough to use it, but it really doesn’t matter up until you get to Archi, we had like 5 ppl in whole raid who had the medallion, and I don’t remember anyone of them saying that they actually used it when ate that frostbolt
For the Pie on 22 Apr 2008 at 10:58 am #
I had it, got hammered and couldn’t activate the trinket fast enough to not die. I watched the last 1/3 of the kill on my face in the dirt.
Furio on 22 Apr 2008 at 11:09 am #
as i said in a comment a few posts back….this is MUCH more satisfying after you have taken the time to down vashj and kael.
it’s a reward more than anything for getting attuned. now that the sttunment is lifted along with not having to clear ssc to kill vashj it become much more of a bore.
azgalore was the only hard boss in hyjal and then they nerfed the crap out of him in 2.4 so MH is actually an easier clear than ssc.
Lotos/Smoke on 22 Apr 2008 at 11:22 am #
There’s always one loot pinata in every raid instance. This isn’t to diminish your achievement in the least, since just getting 25 trained monkeys to sit still and do what they’re told long enough to down even one raid boss is an accomplishment in and of itself. However, I have to agree with Furio, once you’ve got Kael and Vashj sucking dirt regularly, Mount Hyjal is a much better experience. While I understand from a gameplay standpoint, Blizzard wants as many people to experience the content as possible, and lifting the extremely challenging attunement is part of that philosophy, I’m of the opinion that Hyjal should have kept it’s attunement, as it is really a reward for clearing SSC and TK.
spithoof on 22 Apr 2008 at 11:52 am #
Rage is really a kid comparing to Vashj and Kael… not a big deal at all… and hunter DPS is crap in Hyjal… No real hunter stuff from Rage, especially if you got braces from LeoTB… The best thing i love Hyjal - it is a really beautiful instance!!! And you just can’t spend a lot of time to clear trash as you just don’t have it…
Anyways, congratulations on that.
Doncuailnge on 22 Apr 2008 at 12:08 pm #
My guild is 5/5 in Hyjal now and 5/9 in BT and you know what? After the Vashj and Kael fights, it really has been boring. Maybe the Illidan fight is really good, but no end boss since V&K has been as interesting.
Nick S. on 22 Apr 2008 at 12:21 pm #
one of my buddies is in a much better-progressed guild that just downed brutallus - long ago, they did the first boss in hyjal on a lark before having killed any bosses in SSC, just having done 2 in TK and lots of ZA. they one-shotted him, too.
sounds like that first fight needs some up-tuning.
Blogzorz on 22 Apr 2008 at 12:38 pm #
Rage is pretty much a freebie for going through the pain of Vash / Kael. Now that the attunement requirement is gone, its a bit of a helping hand to further gear your raiders for when you go back to finish SSC / TK.
WB on 22 Apr 2008 at 12:42 pm #
I agree with spithoof on a couple of points. First, we didn’t hit attunement prior to 2.4, although we were 5/6 and 3/4 prior to patch. And we’re taking the time to do the two big boss fights. Focusing hard on LadyV now, and Kael soon. It will be rewarding to have the Hand of A’dal title, even if we didn’t earn it in the same fashion as the more progressed guilds. The attunment chart made me laugh though. Did I really do all of those? Yes, I did.
Second, I love Battle for Mount Hyjal and all the Keepers of Time instances because they are well designed and the scripted nature of the fights make them fun. You get a couple breaks, but once things are started, you can’t screw around between pulls and better be prepared to fight the waves of mobs. They really are nicely designed (even if they make my vid card scream in agony!)
Cauthon on 22 Apr 2008 at 12:50 pm #
I agree with Furio and Smoke — if you haven’t killed Vashj and Kael’thas, it’s a little iffy calling yourself a Hyjal guild, at least not with it meaning what it used to. Yeah 2.4 lets you in, but any guild could walk into Hyjal and take down Rage (seriously, he’s a pushover, probably easier than Lurker or Void Reaver).
I hope you guys take down Vashj and KT before seriously trying to spend time in BT or Hyjal; they are very, very rewarding fights, and the skill/teamwork your guild learns on them will be used in much harder fights down the road.
Madchikken on 22 Apr 2008 at 12:57 pm #
My guild is at the same kinda level as you now BRK, we’ve working Vashj but took a run into MH the other week. Gotta say, was suprised how easy the first 2 bosses were, did Rage on 2nd try and on first pull of Anatheron (sp?) wiped at 1%, yes 1%!!
Only loot Ive seen worth having is the boots off 2nd boss, but our tankadin loved the mace that drops off trash!
Dont forget to ride up the mountain road after bosses and mine anything you find, loads of lovely epic gems ready to be cut!
Carrying on working vashj now, got to phase 3 as we wiped last week so see if can progress on that!
Hope the latter bosses are more worthwhile in hyjal tho

On loot were were unlucky. Being total newb to MH we had a classical Master Looter, and as such it was often too chaotic. Hence we lost at least three epic pieces on wipes and plain old vanishing.
We learned our lesson and put up Group Loot after messing around with FFA, which wasn’t too hawt considering those in need would need to be contacted about it and then run to theloot itself.
Linnara on 22 Apr 2008 at 3:00 pm #
Congrats on making it to MH, there is definitely some good loot to be had. I know we were working on Vashj/Kael for several weeks (we had been in MH for about a month before 2.4 came and wiped out the attunement, really helped us fill those extra raid slots some nights). The first 2-3 bosses in each MH and BT are very doable. In fact, as far as BT goes, I think the first one is the tough guy (shade of akama is such a pushover).
So long as you’ve got the healers, its very possible to go 3/5 MH and 3/9 BT before Vashj and Kael bite the dust.
Anonymous on 22 Apr 2008 at 3:08 pm #
No offense but you’re not a MH guild until you’ve earned the right to the free loot found therein. Kill Vashj and Kael first.
Anonymous on 22 Apr 2008 at 8:13 pm #
Kael and Vashj are great fights, don’t just skip them. We spent weeks wiping on both of them combined, and it creates an atmosphere of dedication. In the end, that is what kills bosses.
I can also say that we have never wiped on Rage. Not once, and that is a unicum.
Knurd on 23 Apr 2008 at 9:37 am #
I found the fight to be pretty much as you described it … so boring infact that I only briefly wrote about it in my blog … and the only reason why it got mention is it was our first downing on of her, and I got the bracers. It was fate with my roll of 97! I am hoping the rest of hyjal is a little more interesting from the view point of the hunter …
Messyah on 23 Apr 2008 at 10:42 am #
We 1-shotted the first three bosses in Hyjal last night, w00t! I got lucky… this dropped for me:
Pillar of Ferocity
Binds when picked up
Two-Hand Staff
136 - 293 Damage Speed 3.00
(71.5 damage per second)
550 Armor
+47 Strength
+96 Stamina
Durability 120 / 120
Requires Level 70
Equip: Increases attack power by 1059 in Cat, Bear, Dire Bear, and Moonkin forms only.
Its a bit strange being an Alliance raid and fighting side-by-side with Thrall, but the fights are fun and let me tell you, Thrall handles his business! He (and his adds) accounted for about 13% of the damage on the 3rd boss.
Grimbert on 23 Apr 2008 at 11:08 am #
As a hunter, your place in MH is to kite those mobs around so the npc gets engaged..
A prot warrior/all tanks need to be near the aoe huddle in case one of the abominations wants to chew on a lock/mage/aoe’er
And yes, we do it with a pala tank, consecrating and getting smacked in the face to his hearts content.
Once you learn that MQoSRDPS does NOT apply on MH trash waves (untill Frost Wyrms), you’ll feel better..
And since you’re a BM hunter, kiting is actually a bit fun
Freezing Traps, Conc shot and Intimidate is your friend, as is Aspect of the Cheetah.. see.. when’s the last time you got to play in a raid with that on?
I know what you’re thinking : “NABLET. X!#¤” turn on Hawk/Viper/Monkey/Beast, leave the Daze-fest alone. L2Kite”
Well, the problem is, you need to generate a TON of aggro on your kited Ghoul or Banshee, as the NPC’s will hammer away, and if you leave them on your ghoul, so it targets them, then after 5s after you lost aggro, you can’t get it back.
This is without BoS on, using all the high dps/threat instants and SS/Auto on every CD. A MM hunter might be better suited, as they have more damage/threat on single targets, but it’s perfectly doable as cookiecutter 41/20/0 BM.
You just lay down your trap in a nice place, do an AS, DS, Auto/Steady and then run behind the trap, AS, DS, CS and then you’re running past the Alliance NPC Boss camp.. up to the horses.
If you’re really skilled/practised, you’ll let your pet stun it, run back to towards the AOE camp, while its stunned and kite the ghoul and all the npc’s back the the AOE pile so they’ll be close once the ghoul is dead = more npc damage on the waves.
Ahiru on 23 Apr 2008 at 10:57 pm #
Don’t worry too much about your DPS on the first fight, you don’t have a chance of competing with the mages and warlocks on the trash since your kiting. All they’re doing is dpsing, your runnin all over the map and then getting peeved off cuz the damn mobs get side tracked along the way lol.
Your dps will take off once the boss turns up, or at least that’s what I found, last run we had in there I was a good 3% above the rest of the raid in the actual boss fight.
My guild is still working through tk and ssc as we would have before patch 2.4, we want to work through stuff how we should progression wise. We do the first boss in Mt Hyjal because he’s easy and our members can do with the gear. We consider RW a farm boss and ssc/tk progression.
