How a Dwarf Rolls Into SSC
Without getting overtly sexist… can we recruit, or can we recruit. Redhead, female, dwarf, holy Paladin, foshizzle. /bask in the glow that is Us
Ahem.
5/6 in SSC down in exactly three hours, no wipes, we kept our DPS #1 for the night. Our newest competitor, Zasp from The Egotistical Priest, decided to push back against our demands that squishies and leather-scrubbers remain on the bottom of the epeen-pile. He did great, by the way, making us work for our numbers.
AC has retooled a little, as well. Our main tank decided to step down and join the filth in the melee-DPS group as a Fury warrior. Some shifting of tanks was required, promoting a new MT and brining in a new 3rd tank, and Mr. Fury had a respectable showing. The new MT did an awesome job, the healers were bored, no wipes, a few too many sharded drops for our taste, and it was a tremendous success.
And those ten BoJs pushed us past 75, so we nabbed a pair of these:
We spent over 1000 DKP for our Tier 5 gloves, and before we’ve finished clearing SSC, we replace them. /sigh
We love the crit! A little Hit Rating loss, but oodles of new Crit makes us a happy BM huntard.
EDIT: Were we really #1 DPS?
Total SSC run, including trash: Rogue, BRK, Mage
Hydross: Mage, Warlock, Mage, BRK
Lurker: Warlock, BRK, Mage
Leo: Mage, Mage, BRK
Fathom-Lord: BRK, Rogue, Fury Warrior
Tidewalker: Mage, Warlock, Mage, Rogue, BRK
Perhaps we really weren’t #1 DPS… this cannot stand! To Dr. Boom!

I’ll tell you nothing bothers me more when progressing than when the MT decides he’s dont MTing.
After years of going through this our GM rerolled a warrior and wont ever stand for that crap again.
I understand the need to play something different every-now-and-then, but c’mon… You’re the MT, that’s what we’ve geared you for, your threat generation and survivability is something we’ve come to know, and now you want to change that on us?
poo.

PS: Last night in BT I was 6th in DPS and 2nd in damage done. Ahh… good times.

where are the shamans on the dps list?

WoW, Gratz BRK on the gloves!
Yeah, I haven’t seen WWS work in about a week. Don’t know if the owner has left the site or what. Guess I’ll have to start using the damage meter again to keep track, ugh. It was so nice not using that damn thing. Hope they get WWS back working again, I have a bunch of logs I need to run.

get used to being beaten by rogues. The further into content you get, the more they will smash your meters.

Ummm…
I see myself 3rd (DPS) on Leo… how about a little cred my way… had I lived I think I would have been #1 in total damage… maybe next week
And 8th (DPS), 6th (Total DMG) for the full run OTing some trash, OTing Hydross in crap greens, OTing FLK’s hurtful Shammy, and MTing Tide maybe deserves an honorable mention in there somewhere… send a little love a bears way. XD

Hi BRK,
To coin a phrase from a BBB post…
/ahem
“Hit doesn’t matter, I’ve got good crit.”

@ Guy
Dude, if the MT doesn’t want to be the MT, then he’s perfectly within his rights to stop being the MT. He did it right, he notified the guild with what seems like plenty of time for the guild to adapt. People get burned out. You’re going to berate the guy for it? It’s HIS toon. He put in the time and effort, why shouldn’t he be entitled to take a break from MTing? AC is obviously no worse for wear as explained by BRK..

Surely there was something else from badges that would’ve been a larger upgrade …

What a coincidence, I just made a red-haired, female Dwarf Paladin…she’s only level 13 though and won’t be raiding for some time! I called her Dimity, which seemed a good idea at the time … until I realised she’s going to get called “Dim” *sigh*

WWS is working again, go try it.
Jace, you died at 45%. Nobody’s DPS counts for less than half the fight when it comes to epeening.
We’d rather have someone to 600DPS for the entire fight than 1000DPS for less than half.
/love to Jace, our Tidewalker Tank

My Dwarf lady paladin has black hair and is level 26. She is ultimately going to be a healadin, and right now is running with my son, the warlock. This is the flip side of the me/warlock, my son/paladin team that is now in the fifties. It is a great combination for fast leveling.

@BRK
Ok, but when I am #1 next week on Leo I want lots of accolades.
How about honorable mention for top melee DPSer and 3rd in total damage on Lurker then… throw kitty a treat since bear already got a bone.
Question, I am really new to this Epeening thing, is DPS better than Total damage and why are they not more in line as far as ranking, you would think the person with the highest DPS would have the highest damage total too would you not?
spookychick13 on 08 May 2008 at 12:40 pm #
Hey BRK,
We are at the same exact speed and similar DPS on paper dolls, and I have been having to struggle to keep up on being #1 as well. :/
I wonder sometimes if armor pen ISN’T even better than haste?
Which macro are you using?
I still seem to be putting out more damage with Manito’s 3:2.

@ Spookychick13
BRK doesn’t use a damage macro. There’s a post or two in his archive explaining why he doesn’t use one.
Me, I use one, and it lets me get the absolute most damage out of my gear. BRK feels differently.

@Jacemora
From a non-raiding theorycrafter’s perspective:
1) DPS only counts the damage you do over the time you do it. Ten thousand damage over 10 seconds is 1000 DPS; twelve thousand damage over 20 seconds is 600 DPS. Lower DPS in the second case, but more damage.
2) Most DPS also buff the raid in some way. Your death caused your groupmate’s DPS to drop around 4% or so (just counting the lost criticals, not abilities that proc off crits), and made the healers work harder.
3) Your early death also robs the raid of a battle rez.
Was your death your fault for doing too much damage/aggro and/or sacrificing survivability for damage? No idea. But as a kitty you’re generally in the raid for three reasons: Your battle rez, (Improved) Leader of the Pack, and MQoSMDPS. You can’t do any of ‘em if you’ve faceplanted.
Jacemora on 08 May 2008 at 10:18 pm #
@Boobah
1) I understand what DPS is, I guess the difference in the 2 numbers then is the time spent DPSing the fight but the numbers in WWS don’t seem to mesh to what the math would say… dunno… what’s better, a high DPS if you stand around half the raid or lower DPS with greater overall damage? I don’t have an opinion I just wonder which is more important especially when the numbers don’t add up. I have always looked at my total damage as where I am among my peers, never really strict damage per second numbers.
2) This is a good point however another feral was in my party and I don’t believe the buff stacks.
3) We tend to use BRez rarely and usually mine is a last resort since we have like 4-5 other druids in the raid.
My death was my fault, I thought the MT for the fight had picked back up Leo but someone else with less snap agro had picked him up temporarily and 2 crits later and a useless cower and I was dead. I am not losing any sleep over it as I have done Leo over a dozen times now and this is the first time I have pulled agro and died as a result. A matter of fact on the first kill we had on him I switched to bear in a move of desperation and we downed him with myself and 2 left standing.
Waynebrady on 08 May 2008 at 11:57 pm #
Ideally you want high dps numbers and high total damage…..Dont know how else to put it lol. To acheive this you need good effective dps and high dps time on target.
If some guy is doing 600 dps and not dying….that’s bad lol
If some guy is doing 1200 dps lets say but he dies almost all the time early….that’s bad too lol
Of course DPS time changes with each battle and strat. called for. I know for supremus (when I used to raid) my effective dps numbers went to crap. The reason is that half the fight is mobile and I had to keep on moving ( can’t just stand there and push my macro), so I used more instant shots and stuff like that. My effective dps went down, at least from other fights. Of course I could have been an eepen whore and not attacked supremus in his gaze phase and waited until the stand and shoot phase to pad my effective dps, but my overall dps would go down because my dps time would have gone down….
Dont know if that helped you lol.
P.s. also in terms of eepening when most people mentiond dps they mean effective dps aka something like ” I did 2,000 dps on rage” etc…
Jacemora on 09 May 2008 at 8:25 am #
@ Waynebrady
effective dps?, I think you just confused me more.
The week before I was 100% in the fight, no death. I was 3rd in total damage (right behind BRK :P) with a 68% DPS time but 4th in DPS (excluding the DPS of a healing pally on his inner demon). The people ahead in DPS had less than 60% DPS time. I was the top melee DPSer and actually had more DPS time than the ranged ahead of me on the WWS.
P.S. I just wanted to reply to Waynebrady
P.S.S. I think your guilds website rocks.

Waynebrady on 09 May 2008 at 8:48 pm #
@Jace
..thanks I guess lol. I dont raid anymore.. Lately AW has had some people leave, come in, etc…the usual stuff that happens during this time for a raiding guild..hopefully they settle in now and start getting new kills soon.
What I mean by effective dps is the DPS it shows in wws under “DPS” lol
DPS time is what % of the time you are doing DPS in the fight (during the time your alive). I am assuming you mean the Leo fight right? That fight you are going to see lower dps time %’s than usual because of the nature of the fight. At first my dps time was low on that fight but after I got more experience in the fight my dps time went up (dps time was low because I just focused on staying alive at first lol). Either way if you had more dps time than all all the ranged on that fight.. that’s kinda weird lol, well not as weird as having a dps kitty being 4rth lol.
Hight DPS + DPS time= Win
You could tell alot from a player just looking at their WWS report lol.
