WordPress Plugins We’re Using

AskApache. What we know about WordPress exploits couldn’t fill up a teacup. Having now followed the directions for this plugin, we feel a much greater sense of safety that our blog won’t be nuked or sold as a book.

WP-Spam Free. Akismet does wonderful things, but the stuff it doesn’t catch broke triple-figures every day around here. Then we slapped WP-Spam Free in our plugins directory and the spam has completely ceased. Elune bless this one.

Smart YouTube. Allows the use of a modified “http://” string instead of the YouTube embed code.

Instead of this:

Just type this:

Notice the “v” in httpv? That’s what makes the plugin work. It’s a lot easier than working with the embed-code, doncha think?

WP-Security Scan. This lovely little things generates a report of which important WordPress files have incorrect permissions, and other security vulnerabilities. We know how to change a 755 to a 644, but would never know which files required it. WooT for security!

Lightbox 2. When you click on a picture in our blog, it blows up, all pretty-like. That’s Lightbox 2.

Wordpress Database Backup. Manual and automated control of backing-up your blog, foshizzle. How can you not have that? You’re backing up your stuff, right? RIGHT?
