hope he died happy

2. Joe on May 27th, 2008 12:08 pm

Heh hehe hehehaha.. I get all giggly just thinking about it. Area 52 FP afks have racked up a lot of my kill counts.. : )

Fun> Dr Boom

3. Sonvar on May 27th, 2008 12:09 pm

Unless they’ve trifled with me in the past I’ll be nice and continue on with where I needed to go or what I was doing.

4. ghostkid on May 27th, 2008 12:11 pm

Call me kooky, but I don’t take the Alliance/Horde rivalry serious in any way. How many players do you know that do not have an alt on the other side of the fight.

I let the PvP people provoke me before I bring hell down upon them.

5. Tlacael on May 27th, 2008 12:12 pm

Ice trap right behind him FTW!

6. cgeorgemo on May 27th, 2008 12:29 pm

You are on a PVE server right?

So what is your choice?

On MY server I’d feed him to the cat….

7. Asara on May 27th, 2008 12:31 pm

It’s a trap! He’s not really AFK, and he’s got a rogue buddy just waiting for you to take the bait. Don’t do it! LOL

8. juniper on May 27th, 2008 12:36 pm

Ha. That flightpoint is the only one in the game where I never afk at. It’s not unusual to land on top of a considerable pile of bones (pvp server).

9. Galorfinor on May 27th, 2008 12:42 pm

Freeze Trap (wait for cooldown), Flare, set another Freeze trap, BW and take the shot when he’s half life FTW! Take the Shot!

lol

Galor

10. Kevin on May 27th, 2008 12:45 pm

I generally leave them alone when they’re actually AFK. Now, if i realize that they’re AFK when they’re already half way dead and haven’t even turned around, well, that’s their tough luck.

11. Papaoomowmow on May 27th, 2008 1:00 pm

Is the player corpse camping? Kinda looks like it.

If so, Itma must go.

12. Jacemora on May 27th, 2008 1:11 pm

Agree with Papa.

XD

13. Messyah on May 27th, 2008 1:15 pm

Keep snake trapping him until he returns, or let him die by snake. roflmao

14. Avaric on May 27th, 2008 1:23 pm

I have seen that very same situation on my server, in the same place. I’m not into pvp though, so I leave em alone. Though it was funny, the last time I landed there and saw that, I came back about five minutes later with my Sunfury Attack Plans and the guy was still there still afk but dead.

15. Autumnn on May 27th, 2008 1:29 pm

Being the PvP server retard that I am o.O, will Area 52 Gobbies attack you when you PvP like the ones in old world?

16. Dahk on May 27th, 2008 1:34 pm

Well BRK, what did you do?

17. Quaelar on May 27th, 2008 1:38 pm

No doubt about it, he would have died. Do no pass GO, do not collect $200. This is the monopoly equivalent of free parking. He would have woken up dead.

18. juniper on May 27th, 2008 1:44 pm

@Autumn

It’s pretty easy to attack without activating the guards there. The only goblin in range is the flight master, and he doesn’t do anything.

19. ailtia on May 27th, 2008 1:51 pm

Depends. Sit there for a few minutes and if he still flagged afk. Take a screen shot and pop a cap in his a$$.

his fault for been pvp and afk on a pve server.

20. Blakmagik on May 27th, 2008 2:07 pm

death comes to those who wait :P

21. Zball on May 27th, 2008 2:09 pm

Kill him. I hope he came back with an unpleasant Spirit Healer staring him in the face telling him he was a dummy.

22. Steppes on May 27th, 2008 2:25 pm
23. CapnTuna on May 27th, 2008 2:30 pm

If I’m playing while wearing my aluminum foil hat, he’s joining that pile of bones.

24. Anj and GirlsVsWorld on May 27th, 2008 2:54 pm

I’d leave him alone, simply dismissing the whole possibility as the kind of below-the-belt trick that Horde do. ;)

AFK to mean A Free Kill is usually a sign to me that the killer is a spiteful little kid that gets bullied at school and, if I’m being honest, clearly not bullied enough.

Going AFK there is a dangerous pastime, as is setting off to fly there without putting your pet in passive mode. Coming back to the keyboard to find yourself dead is one thing, but a repair bill as well? Not fun.

25. Jageria on May 27th, 2008 3:03 pm

To me, anyone that’s flagged and AFK = Dead

muahahaha

26. Grateful on May 27th, 2008 3:16 pm

I pass. In my busy house I often walk away during flights. Ask yourself.. how many times have you forgotten to unflag after taking the bone wastes????? But on the other hand..at least it’s only a corpse walk and not a repair bill. lol

27. Rhust on May 27th, 2008 3:30 pm

my server is 80% allied… I know what they would do… but I don’t flag for crap unless I’m capturing an objective…. ganking 1 afk’r is not worth the hour I’d spend getting my body camped.

28. Macciatto and Catsmeow on May 27th, 2008 3:57 pm

There are more entertaining ways to HK farm.

29. Pinky on May 27th, 2008 4:30 pm

I kill anything on my server thats flagged no matter where he is : P Saved auberdine from 2 warriors and a lock last night :P

30. tkc on May 27th, 2008 4:50 pm

Pop a flare.

I had some hordie trying to goade me into dueling him in BB. I’m 70. He is 50ish. I figured it was a trap. So I pop a flare. Sure enough, there were 2 stealthed level 70 rogues there.

Nice try.

31. Elysiane on May 27th, 2008 4:54 pm

He can’t fight back. What good is a fight if the opponent can’t fight back?

32. Suuri on May 27th, 2008 5:07 pm

I play mostly on PvP servers. I do not ever initiate. However, if he was someone who had messed with me earlier that day. Kitty food for sure.

33. Pike on May 27th, 2008 5:13 pm

That is probably the best screenshot I’ve seen in a while.

The picture just tells it all. =)

34. Wulf on May 27th, 2008 5:19 pm

I was in HH the other day doing my dailies. I forgot that I was PvP flagged until I ran into a PvP flagged Warrior. We kindly left each other alone and went along our questing. As I finished, I was low on health and started to med, that’s when a Troll Rogue finished me off. I wisped back to my body, began to med again and the same Rogue ganked me again. I called out a hit on the Rogue through my guild and by the time some showed up, the Rogue had unflagged herself.

If I was in your boots BRK – I’d destroy him.

I owe the Horde one (or maybe two).

35. Anonymous on May 27th, 2008 5:23 pm

Gank.

36. Blogzorz on May 27th, 2008 5:50 pm

I’d drop an ice trap on myself and unload on the guy. If a rogue appears, he’s getting trapped, giving me time to get into Area 52. Bet that afker won’t do that again.

37. Tatko on May 27th, 2008 6:00 pm

What I would do depends on who I was. If I was a bored asshat with issues that got beaten up in school, I’d gank. Otherwise I’d just get along, because, frankly, I would have had better things to do.

38. Viktel on May 27th, 2008 6:27 pm

I’d spell out “Gank Me” with campfires.

39. Mmgravy on May 27th, 2008 7:05 pm

Might be reading this blog while afk, so hold that trigger finger ;)

40. Icywarz on May 27th, 2008 7:18 pm

Think of it as preemptive revenge for something he might do later.

41. Aventious on May 27th, 2008 7:34 pm

Ahh, Horde…Frag Him!
world of WARcraft -> AFK = AFDead
I guess I am bitter from getting ganked one too many times…

42. Kohelani on May 27th, 2008 8:16 pm

I play on an RP server specifically to avoid the type of a$$hats who would attack an opposing player simply because they were AFK or low on health while questing. When I want to PvP such as BGs or Arenas or a quest that requires the PvP flag then I turn my flag on and keep an eye open behind me; but I’m here primarily for PvE and to enjoy the end-game content.

@ Aventious

If I was bitter about 1 too many gankings, I’d either try a PvE or RP server or I’d simply quit playing. Thankfully I have no such feelings and enjoy WoW today every bit as much as the first day I started to play.

43. Dune on May 27th, 2008 8:41 pm

Heh, this reminds me of when I went AFK on the flight from Un Goro to Ratchet. Alt tab, check out a few sites…Tab back in to hear my Warrior getting hit. Turns out some level 30 something Hunter (I was in my mid 50s) was trying to kill me lol…I bet he prolly watched me for a while and didn’t think I was gonna come back any time soon. Poor guy…I could almost hear his “OH SH!T” as I turned towards him and rushed lol…

44. Papelbon on May 27th, 2008 9:47 pm

i’d read him a nice little lullaby, getting him ready for his dirt nap.

45. Val on May 27th, 2008 10:27 pm

Carry on about my business..

but I’d watch the log just to see if someone’s having trouble being camped.

I’m always there to help. =)

46. Anivyl on May 27th, 2008 10:44 pm

KILL!

47. Mauryl on May 27th, 2008 11:42 pm

I’d probably let him be unless he had wronged me. Not too big into pvp whether it’s BGs or world.

48. Kall on May 28th, 2008 12:13 am

I’m sorry, but PvE or PvP, AFK = A Free Kill.

Honor’s honor, boys and gerbils, and I practice the Golden Rule of WoW:

“Do unto others as they would do unto you. Just, y’know, do it unto them first…”

Get some range, freeze trap on myself, *gank!*, and be ready to blow CDs on any rogue that gets my chilly reception. >;)

49. BlackDragon on May 28th, 2008 12:33 am

I would leave the guy alone – not much of a PvPer myself.

But I do have to say that a chance to gank a flagged AFK has come my way many times, and is definitely tempting… although I never took it =D

50. Diabolico on May 28th, 2008 2:22 am

Kohelani, doesnt make much sense. If you are on an RP server then as an Alliance, Horde is your mortal enemy. Why would you not waste him? lol

51. Mustkill on May 28th, 2008 4:12 am

A death by the gun of BRK is an honorable one… (Even if afk)
Let him die for honor.

52. Kaz on May 28th, 2008 4:50 am

What’s more fun is to stealth pet by them, run off and hide and then tag them when they move by a pet they never saw.

I agree with mostly everyone else, if you don’t wanna get ganked, don’t flag – end of story.

53. jumb on May 28th, 2008 5:44 am

My main is a horde, but even I agree, ANY flagged rogue must be killed on sight.

54. Paul on May 28th, 2008 5:58 am

Flagged and afk… You should have killed him. I wonder whose corpse he’s sitting on though… It could be a trap. Let us know what you did.

55. HolyWarrior on May 28th, 2008 6:44 am

Depends what mood I was in and whether I was feeling particularly paranoid about it being a trap.

I was taking my 70 lock, EB, through Ratchet the other day and there was a flagged level 30.

I ran straight up to him, stood there a few seconds, then waved and ran off. I could almost smell the effluence running down his leg!

56. kerplunk on May 28th, 2008 7:10 am

I’d put a ring of those useless white smoke flares around him and hope he wakes up before they run out.

57. Valionna on May 28th, 2008 8:14 am

Take the shot, worry about the trap later. I’m seeing a divide here, the ones playing on a pvp server are saying KILL HIM and the ones on the pve servers are saying just let him be….

58. Knurd on May 28th, 2008 8:47 am

I am on a PvE server and I say waste em. I am only on a PvE server because I want to be able to do my daily’s in peace. If you had a setting on the PvP server for Dailies, say you got 2 hours a day where you could unflag and the rest of the time you were flagged, I would re-roll in a heartbeat.

Other than that rare couple of hours, if you are flagged, prepare to get ganked.

Do the hunter thing, Let Hobbes chew on him for a while before killing him.

59. kja on May 28th, 2008 8:57 am

>I wonder whose corpse he’s sitting on though

I suspect he’s sitting on the corpse of the previous guy who landed afk and flagged.

60. Taconite on May 28th, 2008 10:47 am

I play on a PvE server and I would pop a cap into him, if only just to practice my shot rotation ;)

61. Gourd on May 28th, 2008 11:12 am

Kill him what else :-P
he would do the same and has done it yet how one can see under him

62. Jason on May 28th, 2008 11:18 am

That’s a dead hordie right there.

63. Grainger on May 28th, 2008 11:33 am

6 months ago I would have left him alone, but I learned my lesson the hard way after many gankings by the very people I decided to let live. I do not, however target low levels just for the fun of it – which is what I was dealing with on my mid-20s hunter doing the TM quests this weekend. (For all the folks who think horde are the bad guys, level one to 20 and go to TM and you’re opinion will drastically change)

I’m on a PvP server, but anyone foolish enough to be flagged and AFK in a vulnerable spot deserves to die. Consider it your way of teaching them a lesson. And, if it is a “trap” then he taught you a lesson and you can laugh about it.

p.s. All bets are off when gnomes enter the conversation. Gnomes are KOS.

64. Trolloh on May 28th, 2008 11:38 am

HK + 1

=)

65. WB on May 28th, 2008 12:33 pm

I agree with Jumb. I play PVE and only flag PVP for objectives, so normally I’d leave him alone. Maybe he finished a BG and jumped a flight to A52. Maybe he’s checking on a kid. All sorts of RL stuff comes to mind.

But he’s a rogue.

Therefore he MUST die.

66. Zahn on May 28th, 2008 1:18 pm

On my server (PVE) Area 52 doesn’t see this as much as you see it in Nagrand around Halaa. You can always tell the Hordies who have been up to no good as they tend to stick to the lakes and low areas surrounded by trees, taking the long way home while flagged unless of course they can mount up and fly into the sun…

Gankings/group traps happen often around Halaa ever since Blizz started the PVP daily there and anyone, AFK or not, is fair game to either side. Long story short, after factoring in the difference in locale, I’m with the “stand on a trap and put a few rounds in him crowd”. The flagged Horde on my server don’t even stop to think about it, they just kill you so why not return the favor… =)

67. Stupid Mage on May 28th, 2008 1:24 pm

No Sorry, if you’re flagged on a PVE server, you deserve to get killed.

68. Capn John on May 28th, 2008 1:57 pm

@ Grainger – I second that. Not a day goes by in the Barrens where the Crossroads is not under attack, and this is on a PvE server. IMO the Horde never hit Westfall as hard as Alliance with Crossroads.

And correct me if I’m wrong, but unless you’re on a PvP server, don’t you get unflagged automatically when you fly somewhere (as opposed to using your flying mount)?

IIRC the only time you don’t unflag is if you typed /pvp prior to taking the flight, which means this guy has deliberately flagged himself and deserves everything that’s coming to him. I’ll agree that it could very well be a trap, so make sure you drop one of your own before you start shooting ;)

69. Cynra on May 28th, 2008 2:50 pm

I’m a PvP-player-turned-RP a few years back and I’d personally ignore him myself. Why? It’s not — believe it or not! — because I’m a campy, sweet-as-sugar, carebear who gets squeamish at the mere thought of PvP combat; on both my Beast Mastery hunter and my Holy priest I spent two years running around every zone (contested or not) permaflagged. In fact, I only stopped because I got lazy and was tired of having my raid groups yell at me for showing up to a raid flagged.

My reason, however, for not killing the rogue is the same reason that I ran around permaflagged: I enjoy the competition. There is little appeal to me in killing a member of the opposing faction if he’s going to just sit there and take my shots or Smite spams. That’s boring, lacks the thrill of combat, and is less challenging than heading to Elwynn Forest to tussle with Hogger. I might as well head to any of the starting zones and pick on the neophytes and lowbies there. No challenge, no thrill, no fun.

There are days where I miss world PvP so much. I loved not knowing if that other player was going to scurry away from me or circle around to engage. It kept quests, farming, and the daily grind interesting — often painfully so. If I weren’t such an avid roleplayer, I’d pack up my suitcase and move to a PvP server. Then I remember the asshattery I dealt with on those oft-remembered PvP servers and shudder.

And, RP-PvP servers? I found more roleplay on PvP servers and less idiocy. Shame, really!

For clarification, Capn John, if you’re not on a PvP server you can only be flagged in one of three ways. One, you purposefully type /pvp and become flagged. Two, you did some sort of attack against a flagged player or town NPC, which flags you automatically for two minutes. Or, three, you supported directly a flagged player (whether it’s by healing or buffing). The first is permanent until cancelled by typing /pvp again; the latter two remain for two minutes until you perform a flag-causing action again, which restarts the countdown. Hopping onto a mount will also automatically end your flagged status — unless you typed /pvp.

70. dorgol on May 28th, 2008 4:18 pm

I’ve been on an epic flying mount for so long, I didn’t even recognize that location. People still use Flight Paths? =D

Anyway… no one goes AFK on a PvP server unless they are in a town and away from certain trees / buildings.

And if you are squishy enough, you don’t even go AFK there.

71. Tanth on May 28th, 2008 4:31 pm

Whats the question here? He’s a rogue…gank him and he happy! lol

72. Maevet on May 28th, 2008 9:28 pm

I detest WoW
s pvp, but it’s a rogue…. nuke the SOB. Anyone else I’ld leave alone.

73. Morwraith on May 28th, 2008 11:49 pm

That would be one dead horde

74. Heffer on May 29th, 2008 6:45 am

I’m on a pve server… If I was flagged as pvp and went afk I would expect to be ganked for my own stupidity. You went pvp for a reason (to kill someone) and can’t really complain if someone kills you back.

Don’t want to die whilst flagged as pvp? Simple, summon your flying mount and head for the stars.

I’ve been afk once or twicce and come back to a festering corpse… I just chuckle as its part of the game… and I know good ol Nispy would’ve given them a bit of jip whilst they took their cheap short.

Alls fair in love and war n’all that jazz

75. DamnNoobs on May 29th, 2008 7:20 am

Whoever says that people who gank/kill members of the other faction while they are AFK are kids who are beat up at school are fucking stupid.

Whether or not they are AFK, a major point in the game is the fact that the Horde and Alliance are at constant war, so why not?

I would easily kill him. I would just imagine him in one of those huge ass ganking parties in IoQD killing me while I am trying to do my dailies.

76. Priestitutte on May 29th, 2008 8:53 am

Well, you know what they say, if its red its dead, but in this case its yellow…never seen one of those, must be from one of those pve alternate universe…or maybe hes a rare mob XD

77. Dijin on May 29th, 2008 9:00 am

All rogues should die, anyone else I’d leave’em be :)

78. Priestitutte on May 29th, 2008 9:34 am

druids too, druids are on top of my hate list

79. Ttracilordss on May 30th, 2008 4:40 am

If it’s nothing personal with him or his guild let him be. There’s no honor in killing afk:ers, literally (you don’t get any points). And no i’m not from a pve or rp server, but when you’re used to viewing opponents as potential threats then killing someone that can’t hurt you would be just a random act of griefing (most often done by petty and miserable people that i hope i will never turn into).

If i kill you i do that for better reason than just because i can.

80. DamnNoobs on May 30th, 2008 7:40 am

@ Ttracilordss

It’s not the honor that matters in this situation, it’s the satisfaction of seeing one of those fuckers die.

81. lol on May 30th, 2008 7:40 am

O.O

82. Bubblebot on May 30th, 2008 7:48 am

@ DamnNoobs = I do love that feeling!
@ Ttracilordss = Do you think they would let you live? You gotta view these situations from either perspective, you could be the one who completely ignores one of the main factors of the game ( War between Horde and Alliance ), and let him live. Or you can be the one who abides by the game’s original notion and kill him. If you don’t someone else will.
Think if you went afk by the flight master, and a rogue slithers up to you, you think he’s gonna take into consideration the fact that it doesn’t give honor? No. Most people don’t kill people via World PvP for the honor. Hell no. They do it because they’re sending a message to the opposing faction, that it is a war, and their not gonna let the enemy walk around like it’s his right to.
It’s so fun just obliterating someone that can’t fight back, and all of us know it is!
I would never play in a game that was so pathetic, that they let the opposing enemies walk around freely.
It’s just not right.
ffs, kill the piece of shit. if you don’t he’ll kill you.
Logics ftw

83. Ttracilordss on May 31st, 2008 4:22 pm

Don’t know about you but i’ve never been killed by someone that was afk and if that happens to you often then i guess it would be logical to kill them.

I also don’t steal candy from babies or rob old ladies even though i like candy and money, but if babies start taking my candy and old ladies start robbing me i might change my position in this issue.

Out of my 45k:ish hk:s less than 10 were ppl that were afk and then it was always personal.

And i as i said i’m not from an rp server and i sure the hell don’t care about random rp crap like mortal enemies and such (just other ppl behind their screens).

ps. in biblical terms i don’t advocate turning the other cheek i prefer taking your and your familys eyes for an eye and i expect that from every opponent i see so i don’t start random bs for nothing

84. XBob on June 2nd, 2008 7:27 pm

I play on a PvE server, and the rule is that if you are flagged, you are giving others permission to horribly murder you. If you are not in the mood for such an inevitability, and are flagged because of a bit of PvP action in the BGs or world objectives–or were doing world PvP but you’re done now–you either a). go somewhere safe to unflag or b). wait to unflag before you rez.

For a 70 with a flyer, it takes five seconds to mount up and get enough altitude that people on the ground are out of range with spells and weapons. If you’re paranoid about being parachute-cloak-ganked, it takes three more seconds to get high enough that someone doing that will be committing suicide. You are then basically safe to go AFK while you wait to unflag.

If you don’t have a flyer, simply go into town, next to a couple guards, then go AFK. Or go stealth, if you are a rogue or a night elf.

Now, analyzing the picture, we see:

The Hordie (and BRK) are on a PvE server. You see yellow names only on PvE servers.
The Hordie is deliberately flagged, as that is the only way to flag on a PvE server. Hence, the Hordie’s player is willing to let the character die horribly.
The Hordie has taken no efforts to protect himself by flying or entering Area 52. He is outside the walls, away from guards, on the ground.
The Hordie is a rogue–and has not stealthed.
The Hordie is undead, and all Allies know that undead are rat bastards.

BRK has not indicated this Hordie to have been of help to him in the past, nor that the Hordie is a character of a friend.

Now, the point of HKs or honor is moot. Nobody does world PvP for honor or notches in the belt, especially on a PvE server. The only mitigating factor here would be that last point–if BRK had run with this rogue in cooperation previously, or if the rogue was a friend of his. Without this, the verdict seems pretty clear.

The Hordie is practically begging to be smoked like a cheap cigar.

If it’s a trap, it’s funny that a rogue would allow himself to be used as the bait. But that may be so, too. The question is, with the graveyard literally right around the corner, does it matter?

And for Cynra: It takes five minutes to unflag after flagging via attack, not two. Trust me, I know from a good deal of experience. ;)

hehehe.

I was doing the Sunfury Attack plans quest last night (took like 40 kills, aaargh) and I flew by Area 52. Bam, NE Druid (lvl 70) sitting at the FP while AFK.

I chuckled for about 5 seconds thinking of this post and the comments…then I proceeded to end her life quickly. :o )

(Hey, if you jump a flight thinking you have enough time to AFK and be safe, make sure you land in a safe place. Maybe fly to Stormspire instead of Area 52 to be safe? I mean – that spot has guards, right?)

well this thread is pretty much dead and the only conclusion is apparently that the vast majority of people in pve servers are pussies that would steal candy from a baby and somehow would justify their actions by claiming that the little bastard should’ve known better or what not…

…killing random afk:ers is on par or mildly below killing people 40 levels below you

ps. stormspire is one of the easiest spots to kill ppl if you are an engineer (parachute cloak and rocket boots ftw)

I’m on a PvP server and everyone accepts that their opposing faction has the ability (and some would say, duty) to kill them on site. I would think that if you rolled a toon all the way to 70, you would be surprised to find yourself alive after leaving yourself in such a precarious position.

I had to run my lvl 20 lock past Stromgarde yesterday to do my succubus quest when a Mage at least 20 levels higher than me ran by and took me out. Was I mad? No. I expected it and he did the honorable thing – killed his enemy, mounted up and ran off.

Corpse-camping is really one of the very few practices that I think are unforgiveable within legal gameplay.

And, as an aside, the personal attacks and offensive name-calling is more something I would expect from the Trade channel or Barrens chat, Not here.

I would gank his sandwich-making, bathroom-going, tv-watching, bony ass so fast it would make his head spin – if he had been around to see it. :-)
