So I’m one of the substitute raiding hunters in our guild. We have a BM hunter and a Survival hunter as the two main raiding hunters. They are both very skilled and knowledgeable players and I try to learn everything I can from them. One evening last week, our guild is raiding in Sunwell and I am doing my daily quests on my hunter. The raid has downed Kalecgos and is getting ready to start the trash to Brutallus. Out of the blue, I get a raid invite from our GL/RL and my heart starts pounding. I’m being asked to come to Sunwell Plateau for the first time. Since I am doing dailys, my inventory is full of greys and I do not have any of my raiding consumables with me. The raid begins to pull the trash while I get my stuff together to go. I quickly get ready and after a little while, I get Lock-summoned to Sunwell Plateau. This is the first time I have been there. The GL/RL tells the other two hunters to bring me up to speed as to what is expected of me. I have studied the fight and have an idea how the fight is supposed to go. The BM hunter is explaining to me about the Soak requirements and how to get heals during the Meteor Slash and what to do if I get the Burn de-buff. The Survival hunter then tells me to follow him. I follow him around the tree to where we are supposed to go if I get the Burn de-buff. He stops just beyond the tree and I stop next to him. The next thing I know, Brutallus is charging us and we are dead. Raid wiped…

“How the hell did you pull aggro on Brutallus? Don’t you have Omen installed? ARE YOU WATCHING IT?!?”

(approx. 3 minutes later…) So, we run back and this time get set to actually begin the Brutallus fight. I get a stack of Elixir of Demonslaying from the GL/RL and put it on my hot-keyed consumable button. I complete my pre-fight self-buffs and take my position for the start of the fight. The BM hunter MD pulls and we begin. I take my position for the Meteor Slash soak and watch the main tank build threat on Brutallus. I begin my attack, sending my pet in. After about 45 seconds, I pop the first Elixir of Demonslaying I had ever used. I immediately pulled aggro on Brutallus, got charged, and wiped the raid again.

First time in Sunwell Plateau and have wiped the raid twice in less than 10 minutes.

Later that evening after a few more wipes (that I did not cause), we downed Brutallus for the second time in two weeks. Our guild got the Maelstrom Server first kill and second kill of Brutallus to overtake the top rated guild. I have the distinct pleasure of being one of three hunters on the Maelstrom server to have killed Brutallus. I am very proud of our guild and very proud of being a Muffin Maker.

I missed that week in Kara when one of our Kiwis did precisely that. My one regret upon quitting the game is that I never MD’d the audience onto a friend’s Priest. The hilarity that would ensue…
