Can’t Get a Nap, Even
So we had a nice launch, have recovered from our encounter with bad chicken curry, and have a Shuttle landing on Saturday, so we’re taking a small break and taking the boy to see Kung Fu Panda. We’ll see ya in a few…
“BRKBRKBRKBRK!!!”
Hello?
“OMGBRK!! Have you seen the new WotLK hunter-pet spells!!??!!”
Well, yes, but we don’t usually comment on in-development stuff as it always changes…
“BRKBRK YOU GOTTA TELL US!!”
Tell you what?
“TELL US WHAT IT MEANS!!”
We do?
“YES!! NOWNOWNOW!”
But Kung Fu Panda…
“Jack Black and Angelina Jolie as cartoon ninjas? How good will it be? The highlight’s gonna be the little chocolate candies with the white pebbles, what are those?”
Sno-caps, and they are nice…
“TELL US!!”
OK, fine.
Some poor sod blew his NDA and posted the WotLK beta hunter-pet spells on the interwebings. Let’s look at them, shall we?
Tendo[n] Rip (Rank 1) – 25 focus, Next melee, 20 second cooldown. “Damages an enemy for 3 to 5 and reduces movement speed by 25% for 8 sec.”
This is an anti-rogue attack if there ever was one. Rogues cry in anguish, their leather-clad faces sweating with indignation. Hobbes demands Tendon Rip.
Spore Cloud (Rank 1) – 50 focus, 10 second cooldown. “Inflicts 2 nature damage to nearby enemies every 2 sec for 6 sec and reduces armor by 15%.
Sporebats gain a place in raids! It’s Ignore Armor for hunter pets! We love Ignore Armor! Survival hunters will be required, REQUIRED we say – to use a sporebat.
Dust Cloud (Rank 1) – 50 focus, 20 second cooldown. “Kick up an obscuring cloud of dust, lowering the chance for enemies to hit by 30%. Effects last 8 sec.”
Whoa whoa whoa. We send our pet to attack a boss, the pet casts Dust Cloud, now our Main Tank has a 30% reduction to be hit? Some serious thought as to allowing this spell to be autocast is going to have to be done. One major way Tanks get aggro is by being hit and taking damage. Eliminating that means their Threat per Second is crushed, which means the raid’s DPS must basically shut down.
Does this pet-spell stack? It can’t, can it? Scorpid Sting reduces a chance to hit by 5%, but Dust Cloud is 30%? We smell OPness and expect Dust Cloud to be totally reworked.
Serenity Dust (Rank 1) – 75 focus, 2 minute cooldown. “Heals the pet for 510 over 15 sec.”
With two pieces of Tier 5 gear, this is moot. But for every other hunter, this is going to totally rock for grinding. A hunter with 2xT5 and SD would make a Pet almost unkillable. Maybe we could solo that Fel Reaver…
Bad Attitude (Rank 1) – 25 focus, 3 minute cooldown. “Snap back for 5 damage at any target that strikes you for the next 2 min.”
We don’t care what Bad Attitude does, we want it just for the name. Best name in the whole bunch, it’s the shiznit and perfect for a tanking pet. Not that handy for raids or PvP, but all tanking pets will have this.
Nether Shock (Rank 1) – 30 focus, 20 yard range, 6 second cooldown. “Instantly lashes an enemy for 17 to 19 Shadow damage. Also interrupts spellcasting and prevents any spell in that school from being cast for 1 sec.”
Dear Mr. Warlock. We know you hate hunters, especially BM hunters. When we bring our Nether Ray into an arena and sick it on your squishy @ss, please don’t cry. We will laugh hysterically when Nether Rays get into PvP action and make warlocks cry rivers of purple rain. Love, BRK
Ravage (Rank 1) – 80 focus, 1 minute cooldown. “Violently attack an enemy for 4 to 6, stunning it for 2 sec.”
Gore on steroids, pure Win for arenas. Not for use against targets being tanked by a Paladin, however. Don’t stun your pally-tank’s target, right? Right.
Sonic Blast (Rank 1) – 80 focus, 1 minute cooldown. “Emits a piercing shriek, inflicted 4 to 6 physical damage and stunning the target for 2 sec.”
Yet another reason to bring a flying pet to PvP. Put your flappy on a priest and have Sonic Blast on a macro, not Auto Cast. When you see him about to cast that Big Heal, snap Sonic Blast and laugh all the way to your 2000 rating.
Wing Buffet (Rank 1) – 40 focus, 30 second cooldown. “Blasts the target for 4 to 6 damage and knocking it back.”
KnockBack, are you serious! Winged pets bring warriors to their knees. Flappy on healers with Sonic Blast, Flappy on melee DPS with Wing Buffet. Train them both, switch between them with a macro depending on your opponent.
Snatch (Rank 1) – 40 focus, 1 minute cooldown. “Grab the enemy’s weapon with your talons, disarming them for 10 sec.”
1) The name has to change. Can we really have a hunter pet cast Snatch? It’ll destroy all raid composure when the combat log states, “Hobbes casts Snatch on Prince Malchezzar and Disarms him.”
2) Disarm for pets makes us drool like a teething baby.
Pin (Rank 1) – 80 Focus, channeled, 20 second cooldown. “Pins the target in place, and squeezes for 20 damage over 12 sec.”
That’s a lot of Focus and a long channel-time. Is it preventing the mob from moving by “pin[ning] it in place”? It smells like it does, making it a PvP spell. Hmm. It’s channeled. Last channeled spell a hunter pet had was the old Mend Pet, but it seems the pet channels this, not the hunter. That’s certainly different. We’ll need to see this in action before we pass any judgment.
Well that’s a lot of arena buffs for hunter pets, isn’t it. Since the one class with the worst showing in arenas and the tournament is hunters, it makes sense that Blizz would try to buff us up. How many of these spell, and what form they eventually take, in WotLK will be fascinating to see.
Bad Attitude. We demand that, if nothing else.

Everyone locally who has seen Kung Fu Panda says it’s very good, like Shrek (the first)
meh…i wonder how many will make the cut…and how many stable slots we’ll get to use all those cool new abilities!!!!
These look way overpowered. So I’ll wager an ice cold lager that they are BS.
It is me again. You know what I want to see? Pet armor.
I took my scorpid into ZA last night. He has 14k of armor unbuffed. Zul-jin was whirlwinding and taking 80% of his health.
That is insane. I’d pull him out and put a pet mend on him. Then I would try to time it. Send him in. Get 3 shots off. Pull him out before the next whirlwind.
But seriously. Scratchy needs more armor.
*drools*
if these make it to WotLK, at least the first week before the nerfs would be fun.
IDK….family should come first but….Thanks! The leak we could have found online somewhere but the penetrating hunter comments? Pure BRK! Not sure what will make it in and for how long but good stuff. Just hope Blizz does not see your comments! *snicker* Anywho, thanks again.
Gunsnbutter Excelsior/Uther
Nether Shock on a warlock would be priceless. Now they’ll now how annoying those stupid fel-puppies are to other casters. Grr… spell lock.
Lots of these are pvp abilities and I imagine that, even if they stayed the same on launch, bosses would be immune to several of these.
Any ideas which abilities are open to which pet families? Somehow I doubt my raptor’s going to be able to learn Wing Buffet. >.>
Hmm, some of these seem eerily familiar to items I’ve seen before in “What kind of pet abilities would you like to see?” and a few also reek of overpoweredness (- chance to hit by 30%? that seems so OP it would be insane). Both lead me to believe this info may not quite be the “leak” it is made out to be and similar to a few other “leaks” that turn out to just be some player’s fantasy.
That being said, I would love to see more pet families become viable not only for raiding but for PvPing. More variety = more interesting strategies.
One consequence of introducing more viable pet abilities is that pet swapping for different fights may become more important. The only swapping I do now is my windserpent for my cat on nature immune bosses (Hydross), but imagine switching pets for each boss through one of the new 10 mans. This begs the question of whether we might get some sort of way to swap pets without a stable master (ie: have a personal stable we can summon from containing 2 or 3 pets kind of like a warlock, with an additional stable containing more). All pure speculation of course.
On the other hand, this seems like a lot of focus given to hunter development in this area, which means either A) it won’t happen or B) we will lose focus in other areas (ie: Blizzard will half-ass our talent trees).
These sounds overpowered until you hear the other rumored abilities. I don’t claim anything we’ve seen will go live, but…
wotlk.wikidot.com
All things considered, I am guessing a cloud of dust in my face would make my chance to hit anyting to be reduced by AT LEAST 30%
Buffs to pets with wings are always welcome! My kal’dorei huntress has had an aged strigid owl as her animal companion for the longest of times and I love knowing that I’m usually the only hunter around that doesn’t have a cat. He’ll appreciate the boosts.
Snatch (Rank 1) – 40 focus, 1 minute cooldown. “Grab the enemy’s weapon with your talons, disarming them for 10 sec.”
rofl ….my cats name is HappyPuzzi….so rofl my puzzi is going disarm things with its snatch omg dieing from laughter.
and on the bat thing sounds like my gl will be getting their wish as the bat has been our guild icon for ever.
HappyPuzzi disarms Lolrogue with its Snatch.
I cannot stop laughing.
I love, love, LOVE this blog, and I love every single one of you.
Blurred my eyes through the details and enough of the comments to only really pick out a few “probably BS”s. I’m not sure if I want to know, I want the surprise to be saved if they are true, and I don’t want to have that empty Could Have Been feeling if they’re not.
I am willpower, hear me roar! ‘;..;’
I took my daughter and I must say, Kung Fu Panda ROCKED!!!!!
If these are true… then this is EXACTLY what I hoped for. A reason for people to pick unique pets!
And if some of those spells find their way onto the servers pre-WotLK, I will gladly get mahself a Sporebat.
…still WTB another couple stable slots though.
@brk i dont like ur BAD ATTITUDE but good post
didnt the same thing happen with tbc pet spells
and does anyone know wat different pets we can tame in northrend
Serenity Dust (Rank 1) – 75 focus, 2 minute cooldown. “Heals the pet for 510 over 15 sec.”
With two pieces of Tier 5 gear, this is moot. But for every other hunter, this is going to totally rock for grinding. A hunter with 2xT5 and SD would make a Pet almost unkillable. Maybe we could solo that Fel Reaver…
If you’re still rocking the T5 at level 80…. sigh.
Last channeled spell a hunter pet had was the old Mend Pet, but it seems the pet channels this, not the hunter.
Volley.
Oooohhhh, new pet stuff!
I live in the midwest, and am flooded. My household did not evacuate because we are all adults, and have many pets. However, the power is due to be turned off in a couple of hours…so, will be back reading the blog when the power and internet are back up.
It is Friday the 13th…
Is pestilence next on the list?
Most of these sound BS. If they really wanna buff pets, then they should make sure that each pet class will get at least one focus dump ability and some form of Dash/Dive to travel faster if need be. Only then will there be pet diversity in raids.
What we really need is to be able to give our pets potions and let them get the benefit of buff foods if it’s of the sort they will actually eat.
And armor. Socketed armor. Just one piece.
A hunter pet channeled spell would work just like Seduce on warlock pets I imagine.
regarding giving potions to pets, am I the only one who continues to be amazed that you eat the Kibler’s bits and your pet gets the buff?
You don’t “eat” them. You “use” them. It *is* a bit confusing that you can’t “feed” them to your pet – but I expect that’s a game mechanics under-the-hood kind of thing and was just easier for Bliz devs this way.
I was in the initial F&F Alpha. And I think we did a very good job NOT opening our mouths about WoW. The current Alpha test is many of the same people and still small. I’d take most of these leaks with a grain of salt. If they are data-mined, Blizz has a very warped sense of humor. Right now, people are level capped at 65 and the talent trees are locked. Death Knights are not available. They’re just testing the grind, the zones and quests. That’s pretty much what they did last time. They’ll unlock 2 levels at a time and add 500 people at a time to test stability. Before, they also wiped all armor and quests each *push* so you’d be testing the quests again. And no, not confirming or denying anything here. Just letting you know how the initial phases are set up.
WTB Collars. PHAT ones with gem slots and special buffs. Greens, Blues, Purples, haste perhaps….. Just a thought.
From the achievements, not sure if everyone caught it:
Collect 10 flavor pets. [PH] Pet collector. [PH]
Tossing in my own perspective as someone who tanks with a paladin on occasion (okay, whenever I’m not PVPing or doing dailies), the 2 second stun every 60 seconds means very little risk of threat loss as long as said paladin knows what they’re doing. On top of that, the odds are pretty good that bosses would be immune to the stun, so there’s no risk there.
Bosses will be immune to most if not all of these effects. Disarming a boss? And 30% miss? Not going to happen to a boss. And certainly not a stun.
