  3. Papelbon on July 24th, 2008 1:05 am

    but….but….but…. BRK!!!

i know you love love love looooooooooooooove Hobbes, but wouldn’t DrMooPhD (did i get that right?) be more dps once you have enough crit.

But, thanks for enlightening me on the talent calcs, time to play around.

  4. Mac on July 24th, 2008 1:25 am

I dunno, BRK - looks like those extra 5 points in pet training from the end of the BM tree will be really powerful - I like my owl, and one of its talents could be regenerating 40% of my mana over 8 sec. Not bad at all! Non-BM hunters won’t be able to access those pet talents, even at 80, if I read that right.

    /Sigh

Yeah, for those of us that min/max, it doesn’t look like cats will be among the best DPS raid pet anymore. I’m pretty sad about that because I’ve had Jinx (Humar the Pridelord) since I tamed him at lvl 23.

I think it was something around:
    30%crit+ — Wind Serpent>ravager>cat
    30%crit- — Ravager>cat>wind serpent

or something like that.. once 30%ish was attained Wind Serpents started to pull ahead.. of course all this prolly changes in about 3(4) months

  8. Varshak on July 24th, 2008 2:49 am

Ooooh I get it now… to have a pet with the really really sexy talents like Roar of Recovery, Bullheaded, Last Stand, Taunt, etc you have to be a 51 point BM Hunter. Hmmm…

  9. jumb on July 24th, 2008 2:52 am

I’m seriously predicting moths to be a big contender for the best raid pet. I mean, they eat mage food!

  10. Mirshana on July 24th, 2008 4:02 am

I really hope they give us more stable slots. Its horrible deciding which three pets to get.

I am digging on the crocks right now with their snap back ability and longevity. they could turn out to be good aoe tanks :D

  11. Nick S. on July 24th, 2008 5:38 am

the cruelest announcement they could possibly make to follow this up would be a reduction in the number of stable slots to 2…

Wowhead’s calculator is wrong. People in beta have said that the tooltips in-game are currently bugged in that they say “requires 5/10/15 points” when it SHOULD say “requires 3/6/9 points.” Wowhead knows this, and doesn’t seem to want to fix it until the tooltips are fixed in-game.

Well, either that or Blizz stuffed up the implementation and it’s the tooltips that are right. But considering that each tier requires 3 points to be spent to unlock the next one, I suspect it’s the tooltips that are wrong.

So I wouldn’t bother designing any builds with their calculator just yet :)
P.S. That’s the exact same build I made for my cat. :D

  13. trickster3 on July 24th, 2008 6:16 am

but Wowhead hasnt updated the hunter talent tree yet…sigh…

  14. Rulah on July 24th, 2008 6:42 am

IMO 3/3 Spider Bite 1/3 Resists, instead of 2/2 in each. :>

do you really think this is a bug? (any ‘official’ comments on that ? no?)
do you really think, with only 16 pet talent points as marks or survival at lvl 80 you should be able to get the 2 best tier 5 talents?
do you really think 5 additional talent points as BM will be nearly worthless?

    think again!

you just cant test these spells with 20 pet talent points (as BM)at lvl 77…

  16. Serious on July 24th, 2008 8:42 am

OK - So from what I can see there are only 3 types of Pet Talent trees. Not 3 per animal. Which is fine I guess..

So we have 3 stable slots..

There is the tank tree, DPS, and tool tree…

And our 51pt talent give us the 5pt bonus.

Seruously? I dont see much in the “extra crap trees” especially when you look. 5 min CD, 6 min CD. For what a small buff?

Maybe I am not seeing something.. can someone explain to me how this helps the BMH?

Also.. Do pets still retain their racial bonus and skills?

Heck, Im better off with a Scorpid tank than the Turtle tank, just because of the 5 stacking poison stings. Screw the 4% armor bonus.

Time to go start levelling a stupid Sprebat…

  17. Kemonojin on July 24th, 2008 9:16 am

Are these in addition to or instead of the usual talents? Does one no longer have to go and tame something to learn an ability, or does it just show up in the tree?

  18. Glimli on July 24th, 2008 9:19 am

Official class talents now posted on th WoW main page, hopefully an official pet calculator will be up soon too. - http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/talent-index/wrath.html

  19. Kaja on July 24th, 2008 9:25 am

For all the WotLK pet questions, I suggest reading http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/wotlk.php

  20. Kemonojin on July 24th, 2008 9:29 am

Pff, go look at some obscure site that nobody’s ever heard of?

:-p Never even occurred to me to look there. Thanks for the link, Kaja.

  21. Schopa on July 24th, 2008 9:38 am

since when is 40% of your mana “a small buff” sure its on a 6 min CD but im assuming the bosses in raids are gonna be spread out far enough for you to have that off CD by the time for another boss.

  22. Higgins on July 24th, 2008 12:14 pm

Since when did Petopia become an ‘obscure site that nobody’s ever heard of’?

  23. Pablo on July 24th, 2008 12:57 pm

I think he was being sarcastic Higgins

  24. Serious on July 24th, 2008 1:20 pm

    @ALL

Still no one has said what and EXOTIC pet is….

And then we can only assume that its… going to just be a lousy skin with the same racial abilities as the normal pet families.

I think we are over-estimating the fact that by this time next year…

BRK will be “survival” yes… you hear it here first. UNLESS you listened to his webcast.

  25. Mirshana on July 24th, 2008 2:06 pm

here is a bit of info about exotic pets.
    http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/wotlkfaq_pets.php#exotic
Its still under development so I am going to wait and see before i decide if the 51 point tallent is worth it.

  26. Kemonojin on July 24th, 2008 2:12 pm

Pablo gets it, Higgins didn’t. :p Although I was actually being silly. Just never occurred to me to look there…

  27. Pyrius on July 24th, 2008 2:37 pm

Boar’s Speed instead of Dash? Bleh.

  28. Higgins on July 24th, 2008 4:07 pm

Nope, I completely missed it. Sorry Kemonojin. : P

  29. Rotseh on July 24th, 2008 9:55 pm

So, where’s the poll on most sought-after pet PvE talent?

    /watch BRK tame sporebat

  30. Quaelar on July 24th, 2008 10:09 pm

Another fantastic site is wotlkwiki.info, they have the hunter talent and pet talent calculators and they work as they should. Just click on classes on the left side bar and then click on the hunter link, and then enjoy. The information is updated daily and I’ve gotten info from them quicker than anyone else.

    Obviously exotic pets are GNOMES!
we will soon be able to have gnomes as pets!

  33. Serious on July 25th, 2008 1:40 pm

Oh, and you know that WOW just screwed up the whole game by… bye bye hunters …. (like the song) had to do it, “Hunter Forever” i will not go down without a battle

    Spell power

Rather than there being separate stats for improving a spells’ damage or healing capability, Blizzard has combined both statistics together into the new spell power stat. In turn the coefficients for all spells have been adjusted, particularly for healing spells since there is no longer a pure healing stat.

The net change of this is that a healer will be receiving a vast increase to their damage capabilities, while offensive hybrid casters will be able to heal far more effectively than before.

    Hit/Crit/Haste

All three of the above stats have been consolidated; no longer will there be separate hit, crit or haste stats for melee and spell casters, instead both your melee attacks and spells will benefit at the same time.

This mechanics changes is massive for any hybrid capable of both melee and spell attacks such as paladins and shaman. As an example of how big an impact this may have, enhancement shaman will be able to obtain a decent crit rate to their shocks; this in turn can be combined with the talent elemental devastation for brutal synergy.

Note that this only applies to the raw stats of those individual statistics, critical strike chance increases due to stats such as intelligence or agility will still only apply to either spells or melee.
    Threat

Blessing of salvation has been radically changed and so many classes which relied on it for threat reduction may be in a bit of a panic about how threat management could be an issue in WotLK.

Fear not however, tanks in the expansion have had their threat multipliers boosted in compensation; for instance a warrior’s basic defensive stance now boosts threat generated by 45% rather than the current 30%. Equally, threat reduction talents for all dps classes are now present and much easier to access.
    Raid Wide Abilities

Many effects which only had an impact on your own group have now been changed to be beneficial to your entire raid. Auras and totems will now be beneficial to all those nearby but the change does not only apply to buffs.

Several healing spells will affect raid members nearby regardless of grouping and many of the new abilities such as a paladin’s Judgement of the Wise talent, will affect raid members too.

The net impact will be a much wider variety of group compositions along with more fluid PvP combat within battlegrounds where groups naturally get split apart and group composition is generally random.

Raptors are looking to be the new must have raid pet with the AP-Scaling bleed that they get (also gives an ap boost if it crits), anyone try them out on the beta yet?

Also how do you get the extra 5 talent pts to show up in the pet talent calculator?
