Chain-Trapping FTW

Nightdrifter sent us this fine screenshot of a “pet” clefthoof he chain-trapped from Nagrand, through Zangermarsh, and into Shatt. Where the residents promptly killed it.

/boo residents!

/cheer chain-trapping!

Looks like a broken-down bus, doesn’t it?

Zomg, clefthoof to be classified “exotic pets.”

    He should be named kitteh.

  2. Fathgar on July 28th, 2008 8:32 am

I would love to have an Elek pet. His racial would be trample, it would be a cross between charge and gore and it wouldn’t be regular damage it would be crushing. A little OP but hey when you are dreaming you aren’t dreaming practical are you? Or you could make its racial Trumpeting Call which would raise AP and Haste of the party.

Oh and to Nightdrifter, Dude you got mail. Grats dude on a nice chain trap that far.

  3. Grainger on July 28th, 2008 8:42 am

I Love it! One of my favorite screenshots ever, and the bus comparison is spot on!

I’d love to be able to tame a clefthoof. When you’re done using it against mobs, you could ride it.

  5. Glimli on July 28th, 2008 10:18 am

Has there been any official post about what is going to be considered an “exotic” pet?

  6. BM on July 28th, 2008 10:47 am

Gratz nightdrifter!! awesome job trapping. Now your next mission is a fel reaver ;-)

  7. Pike on July 28th, 2008 11:43 am

I am so gonna go do that now.

  8. Tchann on July 28th, 2008 12:30 pm

Wow, I wish I had that kind of patience.

I’d probably make it about twenty yards, then kill the thing for the heck of it. >.>

Although…Aldor do have that backdoor into Nagrand that could make the trip a little shorter.

    Oh, that’s brilliant.

    Boo on the residents though!

So if you trap it enough, it won’t… reset?

  10. Fathgar on July 28th, 2008 12:51 pm

No it won’t reset you have to slow the mob down to give you time to trap it and wing clip is what I would use. But hell you could probably use frost trap instead of ice to slow it down so it still came after you but you would need to keep tagging it with a shot of some sort. I would use Serpent Sting rank 1 and maybe Arcane Shot rank 1 to tag it without killing it.

I used to kite Uvuros (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=21102) all the time before they nerfed it so you couldn’t. I used to take him all the way into Shattrath and have the NPCs kill him. He was at about 30% when I got there but that is besides the point.

Lawl, I love it when Hunters do this kind of stuff. Keep it up!

  12. Fahr & Bacon on July 28th, 2008 1:18 pm

Great Job! It’s been a while since I’ve seen a hunter make a long distance kite requiring such top notch skills run over a long haul. Way to keep yourself finely tuned there. :-)

  13. the Noob on July 28th, 2008 1:25 pm

What is the mod he is running to get that bar across the top?

  14. Kilvanae on July 28th, 2008 1:30 pm

    @ the Noob

    FuBar

  15. Tchann on July 28th, 2008 1:32 pm

    @the Noob

That there would be Titan Bar/Panel. I use it myself and love it. ^.^

  16. Stupid Mage on July 28th, 2008 1:37 pm

If you go the Aldor route, how do you handle the elevator?

  17. Lerta on July 28th, 2008 2:05 pm

And aren’t the guards there going to attack just the same.

And Titan is my best friends as well.

  18. Nightdrifter on July 28th, 2008 2:33 pm

I used a pull shot macro with distracting shot and arcane shot 1 in it between each trap. I think I got it from BRK. I have 2 beast lord pieces for trapping so i had plenty of time between shots. The interesting thing was my pull macro did not break the ice trap so sometimes I would hit him more than once before he retrapped. I hit him twice with the top arcane shot but he lost 30% health both times.
I went fel reaver hunting today, need to find out if they can be iced.

Already been done, somebody kited a fel reaver right into shatt a few weeks ago on Dethecus server

  20. Knurd on July 28th, 2008 3:26 pm

Fel Reaver is tied to HFP … Has been that way for a while. He will still come up into HH tho.

  21. Nick S. on July 28th, 2008 5:17 pm

it’s too bad doomwalker leashes, that’s all i’m saying.

nice kite, though. impressive that the thing didn’t die on the way.

  22. Mellon on July 28th, 2008 6:19 pm

kazzak in SW anyone? those were the days heh

  23. Kordwar on July 28th, 2008 6:35 pm

i keep bringing presents to people and they always kill them :(

my next target will be http://www.wowwiki.com/Varedis

from my understanding, when he hits 50% he stops taking damage…..

    and i think he’s not leashed yet… :D

  24. Rotseh on July 28th, 2008 9:47 pm

Careful what you kite to major cities or lowbie areas. Blizzard may suspend you for Zone/Area Disruption:

Blizzard World of Warcraft Harassment Policy

  25. Brissinger on July 29th, 2008 1:01 am

Yea, if you kite anything make sure that its easily killable by the population once it arrives. I remember a few people on my old server getting banned for kiting Kazzak to SW because in a place like that he couldn’t die. Though, I do remember having those unkillable mobs from around the dark portal kited to IF. That was fun because you could up your weapon skill on them :)

  26. Plan on July 29th, 2008 3:32 am

I’m very happy we’ll finally get new leather to skin in WotLK. As a LW, I estimate I’ve killed 4,937,214 Clefthoofs.

Great screenshot, but even looking at a Clefthoof nowadays makes my head hurt.

  28. WINTER on July 29th, 2008 8:26 am

This should be a competition.. oddist mobs kited into shat
    actually several competitions
    1. lowest level mob kited into a’dal
    2. Physically largest mob kited into adal
    3. Farthest kite into a’dal.
    4. biggest baddest beastie kited into a’dal
has to make in inside the chamber before being offed.

    imagine the screenies

    Winter

  29. Fahr & Bacon on July 29th, 2008 10:18 am

    I like Winter’s idea. :)

I’m sure bringing anything back to Shatt is not really disruptive enough to warrant even a warning by Blizzard really.

I wonder if those Hellboars will be pullable and make it past the guards. Too bad they don’t have charge or you could time the entry into Shatt with a charge to bet by.

…better yet, can kiting a low level gnome through the dark portal and beyond count?

  30. Twelvekill on August 1st, 2008 3:09 pm

I had one chain trapped all the way to the Aldor elevator and was waiting for it to time right so I could try to bring it down when a couple of horde killed the thing. Gotta try it again I guess.
