Tamed is Not the Proper Word

We’re getting tons of screenshots of devilsaur pets, and while we like them all, we’re not going to publish the “just tamed and in un’goro” shots anymore. Send us something more unique and you’ll have a much better chance of seeing your picture posted here.
Devilsaur in Alterac Valley or in Karazhan? Now that’d be news-worthy.
But a big BRK /whoop of thanks to Intimidation for this loading-screen pic! That pet just doesn’t look like he’s… well, a “pet”, does he?

well that decides it.
I was concerned.
I was worried.
I was thinking Markmenship or Survival.
That photo just convinced me otherwise.
BeastMaster forever!!

Excellent. Just.. excellent.
kunukia on 30 Jul 2008 at 8:11 am #
OMG. Awesome.
And, with three (yes, 3) level 70 Dwarf hunters, I can check out all the specs. But you know what? I bet they all end up BM anyway! They always do.
Intimidation on 30 Jul 2008 at 8:55 am #
O_o Its Me!!!!!
Best part is..
You can have him as any spec Beaker.
I caught it as Surv
Noba on 30 Jul 2008 at 9:40 am #
I think catching him as any spec is temporary. Someplace there was a blue forum post talking about exotic pets that said something along the lines of “Exotic pets are just that: exotic. Devilsaur, anyone?”
It’s a good thing they’re cutting loyalty out as devilsaurs enter the picture. Imagine what a new rebellious “pet” would do to the poor hunter.
Heffer on 30 Jul 2008 at 9:52 am #
So this is considered an exotic pet, and the extra points spent to get this talent litterally gives you a nice looking pet, nothing else?
Meh, thats a bit wank ain’t it? Oh well, I ain’t gonna worry about it too much; I’ll let BRK do all the hard work and wait for him to TELL me what I should be doing…..
Zefram on 30 Jul 2008 at 10:49 am #
The talent also gives you five more pet skill points to use, IIRC. That’s the meat of the talent.
The exotic pets are just icing.
Heffer on 30 Jul 2008 at 11:13 am #
@ Zefram - cheers for the heads up. Been reading through all the forum posts and, to me, its all mind boggling :s

Even if the abilities are not that spectacular, I would think that the mass consumption of their screen would be handy. The banning my bat pet by a raid tank due to screen blindness is proof that it is at the very least annoying. Hopefully, they will be afraid of the T-rex bearing down on them and forget lowly little me. I hope that they don’t get stuck in tunnels / doors.
Kinzlayer on 30 Jul 2008 at 12:48 pm #
I still think they should let gnomes be hunters… then we will have a serious compare and contrast. Beside, I love gnomes.
Zwigle on 30 Jul 2008 at 1:48 pm #
@ Kinzlayer - they dont let gnomes be hunters cause if lets say the pet decided that it had had enough of its bossy master, a gnome is bite sized
now imagine it beside a GIANT devilsaur…there not even snacks
Maurie on 30 Jul 2008 at 1:57 pm #
I think now more than ever hunters should be able to use their pets as mounts. I mean come on! A dwarf with a gun on a T-rex? Now thats intimidation.
On a practical note, the exotic pets for BM will be very useful in arena. You see some BM-only pet coming at you, you know kill it first and dont even bother trying to ice trap the sucker.
Brierley on 30 Jul 2008 at 2:28 pm #
I hope someone sends you contrasting wws scores from when they run with a group bringing their old dps lizard pet and then doing it again with the devilsaur. I am wondering if it will be a little stronger than your average lizard pet or if it will just be a skin differential.
beaker on 30 Jul 2008 at 2:46 pm #
i hope they dont nerf the size…that would suck big time. Hunter pet’s should be more impressive.
Big is better on 30 Jul 2008 at 6:39 pm #
Somehow i think they will nerf the size. Imagine 20 devilsaurs around the bg generals in shatt.

Just saw this post by Ghostcrawler on the forums. Looks as if you get a exotic pet as a BM and want to switch back to surv or MM you loose the ability to use the pet:
The exotic pets will be different from normal pets. Ideally they might even be a little bit better, but we’re very hesitant to make them too good lest we see every hunter stampede over to the BM tree. Pets are supposed to be something important to all kinds of hunters, and the BM tree already offers some amazing pet buffs and synergy. We just don’t want to overdo it with this talent.
At the very least, the exotic pets will have a new family ability that will ideally be really useful in some situations. I’m making this one up, but imagine that since normal crabs have Pin, an exotic pet might have a Pin-like ability that did fire damage. Or imagine that you could tame a drake (you can’t, because they aren’t beasts) and that instead of lightning or fire breath, it had frost breath that could freeze an enemy, death knight style. Would this be useful? Probably. Does it make the 51-point talent mandatory? Ideally not. Though those 5 talent points aren’t bad….
As far as what happens if you have an exotic pet and respec, most likely the pet’s talents will just reset. Yeah you get a free pet respec out of the deal, but it’s not as if it’s free since the hunter has to respec. Any exotic pets in the stable won’t be lost, but you wouldn’t be able to get them out of the stable either. If you have an exotic pet at the moment you respec, then it will probably be dismissed (but not abandoned) and you won’t be able to summon it again, forcing you to go swap it into the stable. (Or abandon it if you’re THAT kind of hunter.)

so, even in the realm of video game screen shots can the sudden blink of the eyes be troublesome for the photographer… it looks like she’s asleep… (-:
but awesome shot non-the-less…
gizzmo on 30 Jul 2008 at 8:36 pm #
HAH she blinked… she ruined the picture… hey at least she don’t have red eye
Narian on 31 Jul 2008 at 12:35 am #
I know this is just dreaming but maybe they should include in the ability to ride the damn thing. Its big enough to hold a Tauren. It just seems natural that the beast master might ride his/her beast.

Wonder if you can go tame the FLK Hunter’s pet in SSC
