We Swearz in AB Again
We needed 12 Arathi Basin tokens to get our Merciless Gladiator’s Chain Spaulders. What’s the worst way to get them? Go 0-12 you say?
Wrong-O!
The worst way is to go 0-11, and then win the last one. A nice little /umph at the end to let you know that you could’ve won, if the rest of Alliance wasn’t so Elune-awful at AB.
And we did lose eleven in a row, nice and tidy.
On the final match, we told the Alliance that they had better not dare to win it. We didn’t want a FTL group, but we had just been demolished 0-5 in eight minutes the previous match, we needed one more token, and there was just no way we were capable of winning.
So of course, when it mattered the least to us personally, miracle of miracles, we won.
And then we cursed our teammates, for showing us they could actually win, but just wanted to stick it to us after twelve matches.
B@stards.
Now we’re gonna camp Alterac Valley for a new trinket.

its emberstorm, we will always when when it doesnt matter at all.
but seriously, congrats at not throwing your computer out the window or something after making it through 12 loosing ab’s in a row, at least it had some fast ones and not 12 30 minute+ ab’s.
what you could do…
is gather a premade of fellow frustrated allies, get some fun items (torches, picknick baskets) and just mass afk in the start area. Not everyone might be with this method, but it’s the fastest ticket method out there. (even though blizz doesn’t approve of it;P)
do premades, that’s what i do.
premades ftw, premades ftl, whatever your flavor they’re a much better experience than pugs.
Nvm BRK, you topped the kill list so thats gotta make you feel a bit better. Trouble with premades is they ask for 10 million resilience which I just don’t have the time to achieve. And whats the mod that gives the little map in the bottom right corner?
I detest AB.
That being said, I detest FTL groups even more.
That also being said, AB + FTL groups = not as much detest-ment as I thought. =/
Curious: That’s the battle map. Hit Shift-M. Shows up in pretty much any zone but instances, if I remember right.
I hate pvp on my druid. I always have. I’m no good at it, I get scattered and try to do everything, end up doing nothing. But all a hunter does is hurt people and break stuff. And when all you have is a hammer…
Went from like 100 neutral with Frostwolf to > < that far from exalted, from three AV marks to a shiny new white wolf, in about five hours.
The last game was incredible.. .we were beaten, 400 alliance reinforcements to 200, only graveyard was the nearest one outside the base, NO offense at all, everyone was in the base… and we won. 0 reinforcements to 97. Someone rolled up and ninjaed both mines, about ten people went up and grabbed the “Blizzard Loves Alliance” Memorial Bridge graveyard then went in after Vann to split the other side, I and my scorpid personally ate an uppity rogue trying to nab our inside graveyard, and I discovered that if there’s nothing around to attack, all the snakes from a snake trap will follow you when you mount up for as long as they live, or until they find something else to chew on.
It took an hour, people were whining that it was taking so long, just let them win already, a dozen people were helpfully guarding the cave and the graveyard in the base, as well as a random tree that I happened to find when I got lost and fell off a mountain, but it felt like an actual fight. Almost, but not quite, like the old days when one game could last a day or more, and you’d have riders, bombers and elemental lords all going at it. I died like 15 times, mainly from trying to push through a chokepoint to get up to the pointy end of the fight, but I also came in 7th overall in damage done (Horde AND alliance) in my blue and green ‘of the Ass’ clownsuit. I got the wolf I was after, and I’m seriously considering doing it again next week for the mumble gladiator’s decapitator to replace my crystalforged axe.
Ugh. I just had to get seventeen AB marks for Mel’s dress.
And am looking at forty AB marks for her new belt. I cry a bit inside to think of that number.
Won two of the games. Six out of seventeen marks were of wins.
Thinking about the belt…
Well. I’d rather not.
BUT! Top of kill list is something good! I never could. They like the tactic of “Mage? Where? KILL EET!” -die- … Hrm. Probably because I see a healer of any flavor and try to kill it on sight unlike some other people…?
Ugh, I know how you feel. I’ve spent all weekend in AV trying to get enough marks for the Merciless Gladiator’s Chain Helm with no luck. I bet I’ve played at least 15 times and won about once. Talk about being aggravated.
You know why that happens? Not enough Farstriders on that list.
Between the suckitude that Rivendare and Hydraxis tend to spawn and the unamusingly common Drenden FTLs that I seem to run into, it’s hard to get things done without bringing in even a semi-premade. ;X
If it makes any difference, the Battle Group I’m stuck in is mainly comprised of nub Horde, and Alliance that work together.
From time to time, and when all actually play like they know whats meant to be done, its a good game, win or lose. But for the majority, it Horde camping the middle of AV, or running around like headless chickens in AB and WSG. As for EotS, don’t even bother signing up!!!
A friend of mine plays both Horde and Alliance on my server, and has openly admitted he would take Ally nubs over Horde everytime. Mainly as at least Alliance will do as they are asked, Horde tend to think they are Rambo and can take on the world solo and win.
I just finished farming the honor for the season 2 gaval for my protection pally, talk about a long grind. But I feel the same way about AB, its the only daily I won’t do. AV is still the king of when you just need honor and I can at least tank drek and feel slightly useful there.
This is making me dread the idea of going for the pvp belt.
I’d say I win about 20-30% of my ABs, but the losses really wear on me. Mostly because half of the alliance in my battlegroup come in ready to give up at the first sign of adversity. I do my best to encourage my teammates, and castigate those who advise the group to let them 5 cap. But it’s really hard, so many people just don’t believe they can win and won’t try. I hate the new honor system for that–you can’t pair people who play for competition and people who play simply for purples together, it’s a bad combo.
Part of my problem with AB is that AFKers hurt a lot more than in other BGs. Because you’ll see 3 people at a node and assume it’s safe, but it isn’t because those 3 aren’t actually playing. I even ran into a group the other day that was purposely giving out false inc calls to try and make us lose faster. I opened a ticket and even got to speak to a GM about that one, but I have no clue if it resulted in anything. Disheartening.
I just got my shoulder, chest, hands
you got 16000 Gold !?
i play on both sides, different server groups though. i have to say it really varies except: the Alliance guys always give up sooner and leave the BG. I’ve entered Horde BGs where we were down and we’ve turned it around and won. I think there is a higher proportion of serious and determined folks in the Horde, and the Allies, because there are so many, have a higher proportion of less serious BG players. It’s always less frustrating to lose on Horde than to lose on Allie.
imho of course; your mileage will vary.
I was grinding for a belt last week and found I could win after midnight Pacific time on Black Dragonflight. I was 2/10 before midnight and 4/5 after midnight. Both of my last wins were 5 caps including one 2000-0. My personal theory is the “younger” alliance have gone to bed. Late night BG’s FTW !
There is a definite difference in horde win/loss ratio depending on the time of day.
But in general, I win 70+% of AB, WSG, EoTS and less than 30% of AV.
Which would you rather have? Personally I find AV to be mindlessly boring, so I’m ok with simply playing the rest of the BGs instead of clawing my eyes out in AV.
BRK if you want an easy AB come to Bloodlust. Just Remember that we’ll own you in nearly every AV though. I say “Nearly”. Bloodlust doesn’t win every AV, Just alot of them. AB, WSG and EotS are a different story…
LOL! I was dreading needing to get 9 more pesky AB marks for my resto druid’s (Phae tells me to say, “Foshizzle!” here) S2 chest piece. I went twice and we lost twice. The gates opened and the players scattered like confetti in ticker-tape parade. Time for a macro.
/bg grp1 = LM
/bg grp2 = BS
/bg grp3 = GM
Spam this at the beginning.
Whadayaknow! Ally can read AND follow simple instructions. 3 wins in a row and I was off to the welfare office to pick up my new armor. Heck, I might even go back and try to farm up the rest of the marks for the shoulders.
foshizzle!
I did AB this weekend for the 40 marks for the belt upgrade because my belt is just that bad. I experienced 6 wins (one of them shouldn’t count because the horde let us 5 cap). Do the math that = 28 stupid games I had to suffer through. I was was in a seriously bad mood due to it as well. Nothing worse than playing alliance in AB.
Now I need some more honor. bleh.
Huh. Is definitely not the part where I flaunt 5/5 for S2 set before hitting 70, yes?
Seriously, with the obvious exception of AV (insert complaint about level 68s in plate melting to anything and everything level 70 here), the pre-70 battlegroups are way different. I’ve discovered that for my battlegroup the optimum time to grab AV marks is 51-60 (lost maybe two games there, and I had to burn around 150 AV marks because I was honor-farming for my epic trinket – another mistake I won’t repeat), AB marks 50-59, and WSG marks never. Games are slightly less turtle-ish in 60-69, but still… Lack of anything to guarantee game-end (points per minute and reinforcements lost per minute) makes for awful game design.
I hate AV on my hunter, but love it on my resto shaman. I’m mostly T4/T5 PvE gear and if I stand far enough away not to be attacked, I can easily heal for 800,000 to 1.2 million on an AV match and frequently feel as if I’ve turned the tide at several mini-battles during the match.
Chain heal FTW!!!!!
Wins or losses notwithstanding, I cannot fathom doing 12 BGs (any of them) in a row.. 2 or 3 and I’m done, win or lose. I’m often stunned at how people can do them for hours on end.
That said, if I’m gonna PVP it’ll be in the afternoon. Things just seem to go smoother when it’s not the ‘just got home from work’ crowd. Maybe it’s because everyone playing are school kids, and they’re about on my level of PVP competency! Playing at night with the grown-ups is just painful.
So, congrats to all the people who soldier on through BG after BG after BG… My mind boggles at that tenacity.
@Anansi: You’re very different from most people I know. My friends spend weeks striving to stay below the level caps of 60, 61, and 70 while doing daily PvP quests in order to get as much honor and as many marks as possible before we move up a bracket. I personally went from 0/3000 neutral to 999/1000 exalted with Frostwolf in three days, and from there I bumped up from high-revered (17k+) to max exalted with Orgrimmar in another few hours. (Oh the beauty of turnins.)
@Armond;
I’d love to be able to do BG after BG since my plan was to gradually PVP and gather honour and trinkets for use at 70, so as to avoid huge grinds for both. But it seems that the huge grinds are inevitable no matter what I do. I suppose it’s better to do it now (currently 56) than later, but I procrastinate and before I know it I’m in the next level bracket.
Maybe pre-mades are the way to go… I dunno. I love WoW, but neither the PVP path (BGs, Arena) nor raiding are that appealing. The former isn’t a lot of fun and the latter nigh impossible (I don’t belong to a large guild and would rather just play with my usual small group of friends than a bunch of nit-picky e-peen waving raid strangers).
16,000 gold…
You son of a bitch!
WTF.
Prot Paladin + 3 Alts + Inability to do Dailies = Broke..
