i posted a scoreboard from AV on me blog-thing… it won’t make you feel any better about alliance pvp, though.

That said, as a horde, the strategy of rushing FW/RH has been discovered. These days, a decent group will put a heavy defense on IBGY, kill most of the rush and the few that get through get cleaned up pretty fast. After that, most of the group will move on to the normal areas for an exceptional win.
Still, if a group of alliance win by doing that method, they usually deserve it!

Ah Emberstorm AV. How I hate it. PvP-less races, ignoring the other side to get to the opposite end of the map in the least amount of time possible.
Frustrating.
The BG I have to deal with losses more than any other.
Thus, pointless.
Give me AB or EotS ANY day; where PvP matters, thus Horde wins. I’ll take less honor and a sense of conflict any day over AV.
If I want a race, I’ll log off and go running.

Pardon my dumb, I don’t have a ton of AV experience….. Why is it bad to capture FWGY before RH?
It forces Horde defending to rez at RH, which is a superior spot for defense/turtling as it is closer to their towers and they can setup a nice choke point at the top of their hill/ramp.
For Horde, our equivalent of that macro should be ‘This is Jeff, he capped Snowfall…’. It’s hilarious how angry people get when someone caps Snowfall.
@Mr. Smith - I don’t play Alliance, but I’m guessing if you cap FW all of Horde defense is going to spawn at RH and it’ll be easier for them to defend the base. Making them spawn at FWGY makes Alliance’s offense job a lot easier.

Hah. And yet people still do it. Last night while playing my belfalock I ran into BRK while defending Drek in a 30 minute AV. He was even nice enough to introduce me to Hobbes. Such a cute little Big Red Kitty. Same situation, though. GY was capped, so I spawned back in place to defend the camp. Great action for a while, but the stalemate got old fast.
Seriously, horde on the Rampage battlegroup does not defend… ok, maybe 1 game in like 10 or so which is typically where we actually pick up the win for the pvp daily.
Defense, when competent, can be quite effective. Back when I wandered in the wasteland of MM spec, before I saw the light of BRK, my group of 5 stood off a substantial force on defense by coordination and smart placement, on a number of occaisons. While they beat themselves bloody on our defense, the rest of the force killed the agoraphobic dwarf…

I must say, as a person who has only ventured into AV a couple of times, I am usually unaware of what strategies or places are important. This little macro is actually quite informative and stands out in a good way. Hopefully the group picked up on the tactics and charged to victory?
I miss the old-school AV where you could fight in one all day, summon the mighty elementals, get riders and fliers and come out with like a bazillion honor kills. Those were fun! These days, you can hardly set up a good defense before it’s all over with.

Much nicer than the one I got from someone on a Twisting Nether premade on Sunday morning, trying to eke out the last few marks for a hat upgrade. Mind you, I rarely PvP, this was really a one-shot deal because I didn’t have any/many other upgrade options.
[xxxx - Twisting Nether] has reported you AFK. Please type /afk clear to establish that you truly are not AFK and remove the debuff.
So I type /afk clear, and all of a sudden I’m porting out of the instance. I was like.. what?? Then a guildie explained it to me, and I felt 1. really really stupid that I fell for it, not to mention 2. angry that someone was so worried about the success of their premade that they would resort to that sort of tactic to get rid of people. Shame on you, whoever you were from Twisting Nether.
whenever we run premades, we use the afk macro to make room for the people in our raid who didn’t get in.
it’s also a sort of test - does a player know enough about AV to ignore the macro? if so, then that player is a lot more likely to know things like where Bal is, what recapping towers means, etc.
wow that’s (afk macro) a real crappy thing to do.
Last few times on Nightfall, the horde have chosen to rush DB…..and have won. If the ally stop to do Galv, the towers and GYs along the way, they lose.
So much for horde crying about alliance advantage with terrain.
We had a couple go flawless, getting Galv, towers, GYs, and had a group at RH burning towers. When the timer was up, rushed to kill Drek, and never got to finish, because the horde dropped our guy first.
Guess the rush can work both ways….
If you really cared to improve peoples skills you wouldn’t use abbreviations like RH FW and what not (at least not in a forum/blog where you have time to type). I play with a german WoW …

Either way, FW is easy pickings for the horde, as is SH.
It’s strange tactics though, skipping certain graveyards.
Jemhadar, How does typing out Relief Hut, instead of the common abbreviation RH, improve anyone’s skill?
It’s pretty common knowledge, if you have played AV a few times. Nobody types out the entire names….at least in game.
We all should know what they mean by now. German server or not.
@PT: Some people may not and there is nothing wrong with that either. I know I didn’t for a lot longer then my first few games.
Actually it was not until I scrolled around the map and looked at the names of all the icons until I understand exactly what all the abbreviations meant.
Whomever wrote that is epic. totally win.
I’ve seen that macro used multiple times before. Never fallen for it, but I’ve seen others fall for it.
Another funny thing that I’ve seen is for mages to create a portal to [major city] and ask people to click on it … people leave in droves
Oooh, mage portal out of a BG. Pretty slick, tho not nice. Does that actually work if you’re from different realm?
Our mages at the end of a raid night naturally drop a portal to send everyone home.
However, if you’re not paying attention you can end up in Exodar!
The portals are fun ! My boyfriend was harassed once by an idiot asking a portal to Shattrath after a bad dungeon… He sent him to Darnassus… (he didn’t have the portal to Exodar…)
And that macro is fun, but I don’t know AV enough to fully understand it…
Like Jemhadar said, I often get lost with abbreviations. On my server, we sometimes use french abb, or english abb, or sometimes full english names but if you don’t know the traduction in French, well…
Yesterday, one of my guildies asked something about “cdb”.
And everyone : “cdb ??”
“champ de bataille”…
Noone ever uses the french word, we use “battleground” or “bg”
Isn’t that confusing… ^_^
Personally I think tricking people into typing /afk in a BG says more about the person doing the tricking than the person who got tricked…specifically, I get the impression that anyone who uses such a macro is probably a snickering 14-year-old who thinks he’s pretty damn clever (or at least has the maturity level of said 14-year-old).
The ones who fall for it & /afk out are probably better off…they’re saved from what likely would have been 20 excruciating minutes of profanity, insults and repeated “just let them win” whining.
An OT comment on abbreviations.
—- I guess technically an abbreviation is only an acronym if it forms a pronounceable word …. like mothers against drunk drivers (MADD) or mothers against dyslexia (DAM -grin) me I would have a hell of a time pronouncing WSG—-

I know all the initials are standard lingo. And everyone should learn em for sure.
But in various chat channels we are not charged by the letter. Personally I always enjoy it when somebody actually types out the full name of the enchant or the instance etcetera. Why not type it out? In the heat of battle you don’t have time. But at other relaxed times?
Just a quirk of mine….NBD (no big deal).
PS the one amazing failing of horde in AV …..you almost never see players wait just a few seconds for a mounted GROUP to form. Almost never ride together. For instance, it is far and away best for horde to go after the Aid Station rather than Stormpike graveyard. If a few engage at Stormpike while a large number of other players ride TOGETHER under the bridge and through SPGY….most of them will make it to the Aid Station. An they will take it.
