BRK Chimaera Movie

BRK » 11 August 2008 » In Movie, Pets, WotLK » 31 Comments

We trained an…. OK, let’s be accurate. It’s ugly. There, we said it. We trained an ugly level 68 Chimaera and took it to get some revenge in Skettis.

But before that, we talked a little about how to tame a beast, and a nice feed pet macro you may like.

Download the YouTube version (46MB) of this movie here.

Download the full-sized version (175MB) here.

Edit: Ki-MEER-Uh.

Seriously, we honked up the pronunciation of this one, and big time. But it’s much too late to remaster the silly movie, so just bear with us as we say it wrong. Please?

Edit #2: The feed pet macro is wrong.

/cast feed pet

/use [pet:cat/chimaera] roast clefthoof

Don’t use a comma to separate the two pets, use a slash. We’re going to redo this part of the movie to fix this error.

    Hey BRK,

I’m loving the fresh Beta content you’re putting up – reminds me of the first time I pored through your various hunter guides back at level 11. Keep it coming, and thanks.

    Mithranduil & Whisper

    PS – if I might “chime” in on pronunciation – it’s “ky-MIR-uh” :P

  2. Manito on August 11th, 2008 1:47 pm

Yeah, I had to stop watching, the “chi-mer-ah”" instead of “khy-mer-ah” was making me pull my hair out :P

  3. kunukia on August 11th, 2008 1:50 pm

    Woot!!! Thank you BRK.

I just pre-ordered at my local Mall, at the Gamespot that opened at midnight for BC and they said they are going to open again for WotLK.

PS, I don’t care what you call the beast!

  4. Celeborn on August 11th, 2008 1:53 pm

Will you post a link to your chimaera’s talent tree BRK? Thanks!

  5. Sarai on August 11th, 2008 1:56 pm

I’ve wanted one of these for a long time now, can’t wait to get mine (brown one from Azshara most likely) :D

  6. Fastest on August 11th, 2008 2:04 pm

So ugly… All I ever wanted was a wasp… Why cant I have a wasp?

    /sad

I want one of those lightning bug “wasps” in Zangramarsh that would nail rogues with the “can’t disappear” smack downs. :)

I don’t see how anyone can expect exact pronunciation from a man who is so crazy he doesn’t even doublespace after periods!

I think I will have my own charity event to help all the poor singlespacers.

This made me laugh out loud!!!

Thanks for the great movies, BRK. It seems like there is a new movie every time I turn around.

Love the movies! Don’t know if I’ll resist the lure of the devilsaur. Also, in defense of BRK: Doublespacing after periods is a holdover from typewriter days when everything was monospaced. In today’s computer age it is a general rule to only use one space after periods. So BRK is correct.

    From writing911.com:

Everyone who took typing class in high school learned that you always put two spaces after a period. The same goes for colons, questions marks, and exclamation points. Well, times have changed, and the two-space rule is dead.

Today, using just one space is correct. In BC times (Before Computers), printing presses and typewriters used letters that were all the same width. To help readers see that a new sentence was starting, we inserted two spaces. Today, computers compensate for the varying widths of letters. An “m” no longer takes up the same amount of space as an “i” does. Thanks to these proportional fonts, we no longer need that extra space.

Don’t believe it? Even the venerable Chicago Manual of Style says so: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/CMS_FAQ/OneSpaceorTwo/OneSpaceorTwo_questions01.html

If you write for the web, HTML automatically removes the second space for you.

Can’t open the movie at work, but I’m intrigued. I think it will take a while after WotLK comes out to determine which pet is best for the application, be it raiding, farming, or PvP. Should be fun. Not to mention the specs. Whew!

The correct pronounciation of “Chimaera” is with a “K”. See

    http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_1861596747/Chimaera.html

Just like Prince Malchezaar is with a “K” not a “ch”. Those Italians.

  13. Felandra on August 11th, 2008 3:46 pm

Actually it is a holdover from Latin. There all ‘C’s in all their forms were ‘K’s.

Yes, that means Caesar isn’t See-sah. It is in fact Ka-eh-sah… Sound familiar? Yup, various languages use that pronounsation for Emperor. ‘Kaiser’ anyone? :D
The mispronounsation of Latin is from Medieval Latin where ‘C’ in certain circumstances is pronounced as an ‘S’. I think it is ahead of certain wovels like ‘I’, ‘E’ and so on, while other wovels keep the ‘k’ sound.

Btw, massive bandwith used tonight?, I’m getting very slow DL on the movie.

Since when is a BM shot rotation anything BUT spamming Steady Shot? ;)

    dude, the laughter! so creepy!

  16. Cecilq on August 11th, 2008 5:38 pm

@Darowen: Damn you and your relevant & highly-reputable links! You’ve pulled the rug out from under this ardent two-spacer. My world is spinning! :P

Seriously though, I had my two-spacing ways drilled into me in elementary school typing class, and have done it my whole life. But when you single-spacers have the University of Chicago in your corner, that’s pretty authoritative. Perhaps the time has come to train my thumb to not double-tap the space bar automatically at the end of every sentence…I can already tell this won’t be an easy monkey to get off my back. :)

On another note, boy am I glad I’ve never had a reason to say the word “chimaera” over Ventrilo, because I’ve been pronouncing it “chi-MARE-ah” all this time. So is it “ki-MEER-ah” or “ky-MEER-ah”? Or is the emphasis on the first syllable?

  17. Narian on August 11th, 2008 6:13 pm

Yeah, the first time I saw the movie I was confused as to why you were saying it like that. I don’t think they are that ugly, I think they are sort of cool looking. I should have room for one now that we are getting more stable spaces.

Although if it looked like this I might be confused as to what to think of it.

BRK has one evil and creepy laugh :)

  19. Curtis on August 11th, 2008 8:47 pm

To chime in on the pronunciation. . .

I fall on the side of believing it should be pronounced “CHIM-er-ah” and that Blizzard actually spelled the pet wrong.

A chimaera is a fish. That ain’t no fish in your movie. Chimera is much more fitting.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimaera

EDIT: Hold on a second. . . either way it’s ki-MEER-ah. Damn you learn something new everyday. :O

  20. yunk on August 11th, 2008 11:14 pm

Hey I’m from Chicago, that means I don’t follow the Chicago Manual of Style, I pay a guy named Tony to break its kneecaps.

  21. Skorak on August 11th, 2008 11:20 pm

If the lightning attack is considered a nature spell, then the reason it didn’t hit the big elite tree guy is that the guy is immune to nature damage. My shaman learned that one the hard way.

  22. Quaelar on August 11th, 2008 11:42 pm

Well, the attack didnt register as immune, it was a miss. Thus, spell hit is needed as BRK suggested. Anywho, great vid. Loving the graphic on the lightning and frost. Looks sweet. Been wanting one of these ever since I first saw them!

  23. Haarits on August 12th, 2008 12:16 am

“It’s a mythical creature and I can calls it what I wants!”

Growing up reading the myth, I always thought “chim-er-a”. Never heard it pronounced until after college, probably. Maybe even as late as the CSI episode from awhile back with George Newbern as a murderer with two sets of DNA!

Another fun video. WOTLK pets should be a blast!

The ones from winterspring are actually pretty cool looking.
These bad boys dont hold aggro worth a darn though… even with the insane crits.

  26. Armond on August 12th, 2008 7:12 am

    @Narian: Don’t call it a geep! :D

And, very creepy laugh. Wish I could have seen one of them crits for 17k though.

  27. Felandra on August 12th, 2008 8:32 am

Yeah the ones in Winterspring are pretty damn beautiful. The right colours. I doubt they can match some of the more outlandish Moths, but they are still a sight to behold.

And while Chimaeras suffer from the same stuttering flapping while flying around (not the Dive version), they are less affected because they glide a lot, like Bats.

But I have heard mention that the Azerothian species are more at ease with themselves (their world didn’t break up beneath them, makes sense) and as such don’t flutter and stutter. At least the Wind Serpents, maybe the other races too?

/foresees rush to Azeroth for non stuttering Moths

  28. Mudge on August 12th, 2008 9:18 am

OK … where do the “Lost Threat” and “Attacking You” messages come from. Is that something in SCT?

  29. Featherkitty on August 12th, 2008 4:25 pm

Hey BRK could you tame a chillwind chimaera and show how good it is please??

  30. Boozsha on August 13th, 2008 8:33 am

    @yunk –

“I don’t see how anyone can expect exact pronunciation from a man who is so crazy he doesn’t even doublespace after periods! ”

A lot of the blogs editors and forums don’t allow for the two spaces, even if you put it in there. It is pulled out when the editor creates the post. I don’t know if that is the case for BRK.

Just tested it. I inserted double spaces here and did not take. Most likely it saves space on memory.

  31. yunk on August 14th, 2008 2:35 pm

For those who took me seriously.. do a search on doublespacing to see past posts to see what we’re talking about.

Then join doublespacerevolution.net, to stop the fascist software developers from enforcing their “style” and “rules” !
