Random sound file but it plays.

  2. Rusco on August 26th, 2008 11:17 pm

Sounds great!!!! I especially enjoyed the “fantastic” in the middle.

  3. Amanda on August 26th, 2008 11:25 pm

Actually, that was a catchy little jingle! I like it! Makes me want to do a jig, which is good. It gets the energy building and such.

  4. Higgins on August 26th, 2008 11:42 pm

Well, without being too critical, where’s the gun fire? The sound of Hobbes growling as he dashes off to mangle some poor Horde b@stard? I love the music, it’s a definite keeper, but that being said, this is going to be a HUNTER podcast, right?

Keep what you’ve got so far, but the ‘click, BOOM!’ of a blunderbuss is a must, isn’t it?

  5. Pike on August 27th, 2008 12:02 am

I liked it. /two thumbs up

  6. Justyne on August 27th, 2008 12:11 am

I liked it! It was a spiffy blend of WoW and..um..the Scottish Highlands?

My suggestion is to speed up the bagpipes a little if possible, since BRK comes across as quite high-energy, and while those parts were very cool sounding, I think faster would fit the general atmosphere better.

Oh, and I agree with Higgins that a Hobbes “RAWR!” would be awesome. But overall it’s very catchy and unique!

  7. Durgan on August 27th, 2008 12:14 am

Bah on quicktime, I refuse to install that on my computer…so I will withhold my critique until I can hear it.

  8. Game Dame on August 27th, 2008 12:19 am

Yeah no quicktime for me, either. It’s a master I refuse to obey.

  9. Cay on August 27th, 2008 12:23 am

I agree with Higgens and Justyne! While the tune is fun and catchy, needs more RAWR! BOOM!

    ….

    /phoot?

  10. The Wild One on August 27th, 2008 12:35 am

OMGWTFBBQ I made it into a BRK post HEADLINE!!

    /dance

In all seriousness, I thought about gunfire, but BRK phoots now, iirc, and I was tryin’ to keep the “WoW Dwarven feel” and give a little BRK style attitude in under a minute.

    All comment/crits/thumbs up welcome.

I’ll see what I can do about a Hobbes-esque growl tomorrow. I need to sleep right now.

  11. Nick S on August 27th, 2008 1:31 am

    It’s very… Scottish.

Maybe a bit shorter, since it’s intended to precede a podcast, unless it’s going to play underneath the beginning of the dialog…

  12. DanM on August 27th, 2008 1:36 am

Ya BRK went wussy style and “phoots” now like a Night Elf. (Hopefully WOTLK will have plenty of high level guns)

Totally fun jingle, enjoyed it. Amusing that the voice over is from /flirt.

  13. Scy on August 27th, 2008 1:40 am

I like this alot. I love the sound of bagpipes. Wish I could find more music with them :).

  14. Higgins on August 27th, 2008 3:00 am

We all know that BRK ‘phoots’ now only because he’s a true min/maxer and can’t see fit to let some dress wearing ‘lock pass him on the DPS charts due to a case of firearm vanity.

Everyone knows that any ‘real’ dwarven hunter wouldn’t dream of leaving The Mountain without rifle, shot and powder. I mean, I assume that’s why we all speak so loudly anyway. A lifetime of the ‘Crack, BOOM!’ of a blunderbuss leaves quite a ringing in one’s ears.

Seriously though, great work. I look forward to hearing it…. weekly?

  15. kunukia on August 27th, 2008 6:29 am

I love the Scottish-ish music, part of why Dwarfs are my favorite race, the Scottish theme. The music does not need more speed IMO, but yes, a roar or something to show the hunteryness would be good. Even a bang of a gun, because the ‘phoot’ is just temporary, right?

  16. kunukia on August 27th, 2008 7:06 am

And the male Dorf lines are perfect.

  17. Boozsha on August 27th, 2008 7:38 am

I think Nate did a great job. I also think there are some areas of opportunity here. I think you need to somehow include or expand on the sound bite(s) in front of the BRK videos. The BRK videos sound bite sounds really “BIG” and professional.

  18. Karanna on August 27th, 2008 8:16 am

I love it :) I have 4 dwarfs that I play regularly and the Scottish theme of this piece is just perfect.

  19. Green on August 27th, 2008 8:19 am

Start it off with your 3:2 macro.. Boom Boom Boom Boom….

But I love the clip.. It’s awesome.

BRK - The Dwarf with a sound.

  20. Green on August 27th, 2008 8:21 am

Now if he has this clip or bagpipes playing in the background of some of his movies. (During the dead noise) BRK would become a international icon.

O’wait.. he is in the WoW world.

BRK, can I work for you?

  21. Deadrabit on August 27th, 2008 8:22 am

That as the intro to the blog the 15-30 second intro roll could work.

I think the phrase where he says “enough of the chit chat lets get to it.” need to be toned up a bit. Be more energetic and maybe a charge or a blunder bust something to begin the hunting party.

The pace of the current sample would be good for the out roll. giving it a more spent fell to it.

as for length and frequency of a pod cast. The lest frequent the longer is should be and the less “what is news”

I’m thinking 30 min run time per week would be good. Spend no more then 5 minutes of that on news. Many a time it’s old by the time the listener gets to hear it.

Remember it takes about 3-5 times longer to produce then the run time. Ask your friends over at twisted nether about that.

As for equipment check out revision3’s Tekzillia they get asked that question all the time. the typical answer is get a Shure model ??? for about $100. The better the microphone the better the show. The also have recomendations on 4 channel mixes. they also say STAY AWAY from the Podcast in box product.

  22. morgainne on August 27th, 2008 8:24 am

i always have thought that the dwarves are alot like the scottish folk so the bagpipes fit right in.

  23. Kruncs of Cho'gall on August 27th, 2008 8:27 am

    Rare, possibly Epic quality. :)

  24. Hrothar on August 27th, 2008 8:30 am

maybe a tad tooo scotish but very spiffy nonetheless, thumbs up I like it!

  25. Brian on August 27th, 2008 8:37 am

My only concern: The Instance, another WoW podcast, uses that same music file as part of their outro. They use the main WoW theme as introduction and lead out (and into user-provided sound clips) using that music.

Mind you, the dwarf sounds are still awesome. :)

I just know that as a WoW podcast listener, it hit my ear and I instantly thought of The Instance.

  26. Jacemora on August 27th, 2008 9:06 am

In game sounds and ACDC… not feeling the bag pipes.

  27. Fahr & Bacon on August 27th, 2008 10:07 am

Well bummer. Stuck at work with no QT download option. Got to check it out from home when I get the chance later. But I’m definitely looking forward to hearing it.

    :-)

  28. FEUERHUND on August 27th, 2008 10:36 am

It’s good, but it just doesn’t sound…..complete, to me.

It needs a little more testosterone, oompf, impact, and a hint of viscerality, or something to it.

I do like the concept though.

  29. Siobhann on August 27th, 2008 10:45 am

Nice idea, but the midi bagpipes have no soul.

  30. Lassirra on August 27th, 2008 10:52 am

    Sounds awesome! Very well done.

  31. Green on August 27th, 2008 11:06 am

Bagpipes! Is soul. Well not everyone will be pleases. I prefer that sound. But ending it with a 10 gun salute or something would rock it out.

Let’s get started.. Boob.boom.boom.boom…… etc.. kaboom.

Im still looking for LW recipies for hunters. Seems that it’s not worth it to go further?

    Dragonscale updates?

  32. Jez on August 27th, 2008 12:19 pm

As a music nut, I like the backing music.. and think it has great potential.

I’m not a genius and can’t even spell Grarge Bnad…. see.. so don’t think my constructive criticism is in anyway right.. just an opinion.

I think what’s missing is some BRK sound files…. Perhaps BRK could send YOU some of his voice clips, like:

“Fo’Shizzle” … “Let’s give it a shot!” … “Too darn right, we do!”

Or SOMETHING anyway… and you could incorporate those into the music at the same time… meaning you’d have a bit more vocals in there.. and it wouldn’t seem as long as it does..

I love the direction.. and beyond everything, I hope you’re happy with it.. :)

But I think more BRK-ness and less Dwarf’ness (just more voice in general) would be super!

    Nice one!

  33. Lochaar on August 27th, 2008 12:51 pm

I agree with many above. The music is awesome, though is may be a little long for a jingle. If there was move voices / sound effects in there (need the boom!, need the foshizzle and definately need the roar!) it may not seem so long.

It’s a great start. Maybe with a little tweaking, Nate will have a hit on his hands? ;)

  34. Freyr on August 27th, 2008 1:01 pm

Awright. I’m blind and deaf. Where can I hear the jingle?

  35. Ironbelly-Sugars on August 27th, 2008 1:40 pm

I loved it! And as others said, needs a Hobbes roar and some shots fired. Long time no see Damh, keep up the good stuff.

    Your old holy Paladin,
    Ironbelly

  36. Weezoh on August 27th, 2008 2:06 pm

Overall Good — having a shot in there or two might be good. Also that clip is used a lot in podcasts. Is there no pod-safe real pipe music to be had?

  37. kunukia on August 27th, 2008 2:37 pm

There must be bagpipes!! Don’t let anyone talk you out of them, they are the heart and soul of the Dwarven (Scots) culture. So, maybe it is an acquired taste. LoL.
As for folks who think the pace isn’t fast enough, you should hear a Scottish lament. OK, here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1qeY0tqiKQ&feature=related

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yktyThZ5oAc&feature=related

    Yes, acquired taste.
    /wipe away a tear

*cough* Did I mention I am mostly Scottish?

  38. Bigeasy on August 27th, 2008 3:10 pm

Is copyright infringement an issue? I recognize the music from a group, I think it was called the Rogues of Scottland. Could be a coincidence in that they sound similar, but it sounds like someone just remixed their song. I burned it years ago on to a CD I listened to.

  39. Xanthelei on August 27th, 2008 5:53 pm

I also agree - love the music (and personally I think it has enough speed as it is, most jig music does) but it NEEDS a click-BOOM and some Hobbes love. Also, maybe cut a bit off the end, and move the “let’s get to it then” so that as the music starts to fade that’s what you hear. Or, leave it clear for BRK himself to talk over the fading music. :)

Thumbs up, I love bagpipe music anyway and think this clip fits a dorf huntar very well.

  40. bsides on August 28th, 2008 6:41 am

    this is more like it!

and i didnt think of the instance at all

  41. Capn John on August 28th, 2008 10:51 am

What about punctuating the conclusion “Enough chit chat, let’s get to it.” with a roar from Hobbes followed by a musket’s click-BOOM!!! then segue into “Welcome to another Big Red Kitty Podcast.”

  42. Rotseh on August 28th, 2008 3:58 pm

Much better than the other one.

  43. Killereric/Samhain on September 6th, 2008 4:01 am

Bad news!!! This tune is already taken as a thiem by THE ANGUS SESSIONS.
