We’re Totally Going to Prison

BRK » 27 August 2008 » In Podcast » 62 Comments

You may say we’re crazy. You may say we have no musical talent. You may say we should be booted off the Internet for lack of taste.

But you can’t say we didn’t try.

This was our first attempt at working with Garageband. The splits aren’t perfect, the timing isn’t exact. But what’re we gonna do, cry?

Well, depending on your comments, we just might. :)

Oh! If you want, you can download it by right-clicking here.

Edit: Lassirra had nothing to do with this. Don’t blame her, for Elune’s sake!

Well…I prefer bagpipes. But, you have a distinctive voice that we all know from your movies, and suits a Dwarf just fine. Still, the ‘music’…no.

  2. Dahk on August 27th, 2008 9:45 pm

Rofl, awesome BRK, I love it.

  3. Freklic on August 27th, 2008 9:45 pm

    A+

    Was funny as hell!

  4. Kalanor on August 27th, 2008 9:47 pm

    Good job BRK!

  5. LilRedKutie on August 27th, 2008 10:14 pm

Actually quite liked it, bit of tinkering and I’m sure it’ll be fine. :D

  6. Aaron on August 27th, 2008 10:16 pm

    LOL. ROFL. LOL.

    That is perfect.

  7. Copper on August 27th, 2008 10:20 pm

Yeah not bad! Bagpipe one was good even though it was based around a smelly dwarf..

    For the Horde!

  8. Neonfever on August 27th, 2008 10:29 pm

Click, click, boom. Its just right for a hunter.

  9. Ericka & Hobbes on August 27th, 2008 10:36 pm

Not bad at all – I liked it in fact.

  10. Niveker14 on August 27th, 2008 10:44 pm

I really liked that. You definitely have a very distinctive voice. In fact, you could easily be the host of a small town rock station.

You just have to make sure you tell us that the other local rock station only plays girlie music, and you’ve got the real hard core music :)

Podcasts are good too though, I think you’re onto something here.

  11. althoran on August 27th, 2008 10:48 pm

    :) I likes it

  12. Croatan on August 27th, 2008 11:06 pm

BRK as another user just commented your voice suits perfect for a dwarf so I would like to suggest something different, something more thematic like some dwarf tabern with medieval/fantasy/celtic music… and less uber rock…

  13. fearstalker on August 27th, 2008 11:16 pm

Umm… NO. Not. Nicht. Nie. Nill. Do NOT pass the mixer, go back 5 spaces.

  14. crack on August 27th, 2008 11:18 pm

I agree with Croatan, that song will get pretty old pretty quick… other than that, well done!

  15. Windchyll on August 27th, 2008 11:24 pm

Not bad as a promo….maybe. But for the theme/intro…I like the bagpipes much better. The fit ya better BRK.

  16. Sid on August 27th, 2008 11:44 pm

hehe love it, especially the part where you say the stretched out ‘baaaybee’

    <3

  17. Xanthelei on August 27th, 2008 11:53 pm

What others have said – awesome for a “HEY I’ma do a podcast soon!” but not a “HEY welcome to my podcast every time!” sort of deal. Great idea though, with highlights as part of the intro every time, to let us know what’s coming up.

Kudos for pulling Larissa and Braids into it, btw :P

  18. Kapu on August 28th, 2008 12:07 am

A+ for effort, F- for choice of song. For serious.

  19. Ironchin on August 28th, 2008 12:12 am

    I liked it……

  20. DanM on August 28th, 2008 12:18 am

Maybe try voice overs over the bag pipes along with the dwarf voice. Gotta be a dwarf voice in the beginning though as that immediately identifies it as a WOW podcast to nearly anyone who has played the game. My 2 cents. Good luck.

  21. Tsiar on August 28th, 2008 1:24 am

    Appropriate song :P

I suggest turning it (The music) down a little just before/during you talking, cause it goes over you a bit.

  22. Nergal on August 28th, 2008 1:29 am

    >:o /download to iTunes… heck I’d even pay for a CD with just that on it ^_^

  23. Siobhann on August 28th, 2008 2:27 am

Much better than the fake bagpipes. The celtic idea was good, but this is more fun.

  24. Buce on August 28th, 2008 3:02 am

Very nice! I think this one fits the mood and personalty you bring to your videos (and podcasts?) much better than the bagpipes.

  25. Shanx on August 28th, 2008 3:18 am

Mate, while it can feel very awkward and “stupid” to all the sudden talk, sing or even show your face on the internet – it’s usually very fun at the same time!

It’s new territory and it’s challenging for sure, it could actually be what you need to continue having fun while making this, much interessting and amusing, blog!

Great initiative! Keep up the good job!

    Shanx n Caesar

  26. Cheetara on August 28th, 2008 3:48 am

BRK, I like you so I am not gonna lie to you… that has to go :)

  27. Indi on August 28th, 2008 5:08 am

Since nobody’s said anything, who was the voice at the beginning? Was Mrs. BRK bribed/blackmailed/duped?

  28. Nayame on August 28th, 2008 6:17 am

    You linked to the installation-process of a wordpress-blog o.O°

  29. rakhman on August 28th, 2008 6:22 am

If the aim was for it to be funny, grats, job done. It’s also got some attitude which has to be essential for any BRK podcast intro.

  30. bsides on August 28th, 2008 6:36 am

To be honest, I dont really care what the intro music to your podcast is, just as long as the podcast is coming soon!

But that said, i think something more thematic would be better suited. If it were me, Id probably just use the wrath music.

  31. Curtis on August 28th, 2008 7:11 am

That sounds pretty darn good. I’m waiting to hear a Florida Panthers style ROAR though. Let Hobbes’ voice be heard!

  32. Lassirra on August 28th, 2008 7:33 am

    LOL!
    Fear not, I approve! ;)

I’m actually not sure which intro I like better, this one or the bagpipes…
    Both are pretty good! :D

  33. Mandragerin and Felix on August 28th, 2008 8:00 am

Would love to listen to again! AAAA+++++11!!!!11!!!

  34. Deadrabit on August 28th, 2008 8:07 am

Bad news: pull the clip and pull that music.

They are not going to take you to jail they just going to take every penny you have.

please go look into Podcast safe music. there are many sites out there where independent artists have licensed free for podcast use their music. Most only request that you state that you need only credit them for their work.

as to the clip itself. good energy but did not like the choice of music. Good energy and good pacing.

Did I mention you should bring in TJ for the odd show or segment?

  35. ailtia on August 28th, 2008 8:09 am

    you know…I LOVED the intro…the woman’s voice was just awsome…the rest…was okay

  36. FEUERHUND on August 28th, 2008 9:34 am

Definately more visceral, but a little too obvious.

Take the two demos so far and find a middle ground and you might have a winner.

  37. Tes on August 28th, 2008 9:54 am

LOL, very nice stuff Dan. But yeah, get Lass on the show for sure.

    Thumbs up!

  38. Bengomo on August 28th, 2008 10:29 am

I LOVED IT, especially the intro the girl. can you say hot?

  39. Tholrom on August 28th, 2008 10:34 am

Tholrom approves of this BRK amalgamated product.

  40. aNTE on August 28th, 2008 10:39 am

    bring it!!

  41. Maevet on August 28th, 2008 11:00 am

    Finn Troll
    Corvus Corax
    Korpi Klanni

All much better choices for music.

  42. Pelides on August 28th, 2008 11:17 am

    Way too nümetal.

  43. Warpy on August 28th, 2008 11:43 am

And who will you cast as the voice of BRK’s brain?

  44. Alegion on August 28th, 2008 11:50 am

I like it but just wondering, do you need a license for that song? P.O.D. might not be happy if you do :)

  45. Than on August 28th, 2008 12:32 pm

    … … … No.

  46. Senzir on August 28th, 2008 12:40 pm

BRK! Thats an awesome first try! :O Please make this into a normal thing!

    ~ Senzir

  47. Iru the Hunter on August 28th, 2008 12:50 pm

BRK! I loved it. Getting it going on Itunes!

  48. Elryl on August 28th, 2008 12:51 pm

Nice BRK, good song by the way, i think it goes good with hunters

  49. Corrail on August 28th, 2008 1:58 pm

I liked the music with the little tid bit between vocals. I love the BRK craziness that gets thrown in as well! It sounds great and cannot wait for the first “official” podcast!

  50. Alaw on August 28th, 2008 2:09 pm

I smiled like an idiot just listening to it. Fantastic.

    100% support.

  51. Aigars Mahinovs on August 28th, 2008 2:45 pm

And if you don’t want to pay money for that Garageband without a … band, then try free software like Audacity and Jokosher.

  52. Jet on August 28th, 2008 3:07 pm

Pretty much ruled. Music was perfect. After all its not an RP podcast is it?

  53. Skarlarth on August 28th, 2008 3:09 pm

But BRK, I blame Lass for everything, I can’t stop now!

    Skar and Co.

  54. horditarian on August 28th, 2008 3:30 pm

Music was FTL. Ditch the heavy metal crap and stick with something that’s closer to the general “brand” or identity of BRK… and that would NOT be heavy metal. It reminds me too much of those lame youtube videos you see of people showing off their gear and soloing [insert boss name here].

Please do yourself — and the rest of us a favor — set yourself apart from those lame videos and use music that’s more like the BRK style… and that would NOT be heavy metal IMO.

  55. Gruff on August 28th, 2008 3:43 pm

    Bagpipes! Go with the ‘pipes!

The voice overs are great, but every Dwarf in WoW talks like wanna-be Bravehearts… Bravehearts listen to ‘pipes not “Click Click Boom”.

Perhaps a tempo’d up version (30 secs vs 55 secs) of Into the Wild’s jingle with the same hawt chick voice over… followed by a Hobbesian RAWR (or purr?)… and then the BRK intro (which rocked!)

Can’t wait to hear the debut ‘cast!

  56. Dwarffinator on August 28th, 2008 3:52 pm

    click click crap!

  57. Rotseh on August 28th, 2008 3:54 pm

    o.O

    /facepalm

  58. Stuntyone on August 28th, 2008 4:47 pm

If you don’t keep that one I’m not listening to your podcast :) ))

    Click Click Boom = Win

  59. Fedaykin98 on August 28th, 2008 5:27 pm

I prefer your normal voice to the “DJ on 12 Red Bulls” thing you were affecting there. And that song…that song is one of the worst evar.

Maybe this was kind of a joke, and I didn’t get it?

At any rate, love the blog, think a podcast could be nifty, just be yourself. =D

  60. Brian on August 28th, 2008 6:15 pm

I enjoyed it, better than bagpipes, although I agree that you shouldn’t be using the song since they’ll try to suck you dry if they ever see you using it long-term.

GarageBand has a Magic GarageBand thing where you can have it generate a song on the fly. You pick your style, pick up to five instruments to be a part of it, and let it fly! Try out some of the styles. I think the Blues one could be an interesting one to play with for your podcast. There’s nothing like this heavy metal business, though. Play around with it, see what you think.

I wouldn’t claim myself an expert, but I’ve done some intro/outro work on a podcast at intergalaticweekly.com (any of their podcasts has the sounds), and know my way around GarageBand a bit if you want some thoughts on it. You can really tweak the heck out of a lot of the synthy stuff in it.

  61. morgainne on August 28th, 2008 7:14 pm

i say the bagpipes are better and fit bigredkitty more, stick to the bagpipes

  62. Accretion on August 29th, 2008 1:10 am

    Bagpipes > guitars

    But they’re both good.
