This Is No Longer About You

BRK » 28 August 2008 » In Podcast »

This one is for BigBearButtBlogger. If he doesn’t appreciate The Smiths, nobody will.

And on the technical front, we’re getting better with Garageband. Please notice how gently the soundtrack ducks under the dwarf voice. We manually dropped it by 3dB, which was just enough so you could hear the dwarf and not lose the music. The master ducking setting was something like -9dB; we couldn’t make out the music at all.

It’s the little details like this that make the creative process so much fun for us!

    Who doesn’t love The Smiths?

  2. Pike on August 29th, 2008 12:45 am

    I’m pretty impressed.

But needs moar Hobbes growling at the end! Just a “RAWR” to accentuate it methinks ;)

  3. Ryagas on August 29th, 2008 12:49 am

That one is saying “yes” to me.

  4. Asahunt on August 29th, 2008 2:45 am

No offense, but I like the last one better.

  5. Smiths fan on August 29th, 2008 3:31 am

Heavy metal was a bit heavy, bagpipes had a nice scottish/dwarf feel but The Smiths cool and moody sounds go quite nicely. I miss all that eighties music. Is there a fourth option though?

  6. Banaiah on August 29th, 2008 4:07 am

I like this one the best. One of my favorite songs and it I think it Fits.

“And if a double-decker buuus, crashes into uuuus!”…

I haven’t listened to it. Can’t. Not installing Quicktime and going through that rigmarole again, even though I’m sure the Windows Media formats are just as annoying to Apple users as QT is to PCs.

No chance of doing them in the lovely universal MP3 format, it’s catching on quite well I hear… Or even (because I love the name only) Ogg Vorbis?

God, I just love *saying* Ogg Vorbissss.

  8. kunukia on August 29th, 2008 6:34 am

I don’t know who The Smiths are, but this was good, very good. It was not overwhelming (noise factor, I mean), and a good length. You could hear this multiple times and not want to kill someone.

  9. Huntur on August 29th, 2008 6:49 am

Best so far, could use a little more length, but you’re on the right path.

  10. Ankel on August 29th, 2008 8:17 am

Can we get a raw mp3 link? I dropped all things Apple when they “dabbled” in being spyware.

  11. Higgins on August 29th, 2008 8:43 am

Yeah, it needs a bit more length but you’re getting there.

  12. Anj and GirlsVsWorld on August 29th, 2008 8:47 am

“You could hear this multiple times and not want to kill someone.”

    BAM!

    Best review ever!

    :D

On a somewhat related note, you might enjoy this hip hop track about WoW from Zealous1 and Super Dragon X:

(it’s the very first song on the top of the page, called “Hum of Death”)

  14. Melpo on August 29th, 2008 9:52 am

I really like this one….I think it would fit nicely as an intro.

  15. Ihumpedyourmom on August 29th, 2008 9:54 am

the last one blew this one away

  16. Narian on August 29th, 2008 10:09 am

I have to say that I like the way the voice was done in this one better than the last one, but I still like the last one better.

  17. Big Bear Butt on August 29th, 2008 12:15 pm

Eh, I do like this one best. But I also agree that I’d like a Hobbes rawr on the tail end for… ummm.. emphasis. But the way you are weaving the voice and music kicks ass. Very clean, very clear.

As Anj said earlier, I could listen to that over and over.

Oh, and yes, love the music :)

  18. Nick S on August 29th, 2008 1:07 pm

    Reminds me of a song…

“And I’m sick of your tattoos, and the way you always criticize The Smiths… and Morrissey.”

  19. Sephran on August 29th, 2008 1:14 pm

I liek the first one your reader sent you the best. But I dont like this one at all.

  20. fearstalker on August 29th, 2008 1:16 pm

Much, much better… maybe needs a little more bang, but very close…

  21. luv2wow on August 29th, 2008 1:19 pm

The Smiths - FTW! I like it!

  22. Turing on August 29th, 2008 2:14 pm

    Hi BRK,

I’ve liked all your intro ideas so far, even the bagpipes.

Perhaps you want something a bit harder. By far my favorite hunter grinding music is AC/DC. Many lead intros to their songs would be a nice background. The following are all rockin:

    Back in Black
    Hells Bells
    Thunderstruck
You Shook Me All Night Long
    Hard As a Rock
    For Those About to Rock
Its a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock & Roll)
    Highway to Hell
    Shoot to Thrill

  23. Fedaykin98 on August 29th, 2008 2:56 pm

The Smiths rule the cosmos. I’m not sure they scream “BRK”, but they rule the cosmos. Much better than the previous attempt.

Turing there has a fabulous suggestion in “Thunderstruck”. That song has a long, fabulous intro that would probably work great for a podcast. Plus, it’s one of the greatest rock songs of all time. And mega cool points that it’s a song by a bunch of Australian guys that references Texas (yeah Texas!).

Have you got any other format to post podcasts with? The version of quicktime that works with Win2k is just not doing the job for me.

  25. Zball on August 29th, 2008 3:30 pm

    How soon *is* now?

  26. Stealthfire on August 29th, 2008 6:03 pm

I must have spent too many years watching Charmed, because that’s what I think of when I hear this (Love Spit Love’s version of How Soon is Now was used as the intro song).

Ooh, I’d like to hear a Thunderstruck one. Of course, that’ll just make me feel like I’m at a White Sox game, since they use the song to get everyone excited as the players run onto the field.

I think so far my vote would go to a slightly shorter version of the bagpipe intro.

  27. randomguy on August 30th, 2008 6:38 pm

tbf, bagpipes was way better then this 1 :p
