A Totally Different Direction

BRK » 31 August 2008 » In Podcast » 31 Comments

Bagpipes may be popular, but they’re just not Us. We’re sorry, but that’s just not the way we’re going to go.

Well, how about loud, obnoxious, rude, and drunk? Well that’s Dwarves all over, baby, so it’s definitely something we’ll consider.

We like this one a lot. A whole lot. It could be the final version.

Not a big fan on this one. I liked the last one alot better.

Keep them coming, im looking forward to the pod cast.

  2. Kenlin on August 31st, 2008 12:21 am

Did… Did you just say Ret Paladins? I take offense to that!

But in all seriousness, this one had me in tears laughing. Let’s hear some more!

  3. kunukia on August 31st, 2008 12:27 am

Very well done. Oompa music is not pipes, but it isn’t bad, and it suits drunken Dorfs.

    A winner, I approve.

  4. Hellyardsown on August 31st, 2008 1:08 am

its humorous for sure I lol’d a lot, but it feels more like feivel goes west imo =P keep em comin! =D

  5. Coconutice on August 31st, 2008 1:34 am

I think a humorous podcast is the way to go. Gotta love the tuba.

  6. Thazahn on August 31st, 2008 1:54 am

Love it. My two cents,… go with what YOU like the most.

  7. Justyne on August 31st, 2008 2:10 am

You got the Hobbes sound in! Yay!

I like it, but on the condition that there will be a different quote each edition. I’d get sick of that one fast.

  8. allarr on August 31st, 2008 2:15 am

    Haha, outstanding.

A new direction, for sure. This has to be the most unique podcast intro I’ve heard, I say run with it!

And Justyne has a grand idea, a new quote for each edition. A little extra work, but it’ll add loads.

  9. Torvus on August 31st, 2008 2:39 am

    Sounds really good!

I might not say “BigRedKitty Podcast” though, seems redundant.

  10. Copper on August 31st, 2008 2:53 am

Hobbes timing was well done. Rest was too “busy”, simple is more.

I must say that a music background track is nice. No need for a talking intro if your going to talk the whole time on the meaty part of the pod cast.

    Just my 2 copper.

Keep up the great work BRK!

  11. crackle on August 31st, 2008 2:58 am

Oh God Yes! but i must say i have to agree with Thazahn; do whatever floats YOUR boat.

  12. Alastren on August 31st, 2008 3:05 am

I really like it, but I agree that I wouldn’t want to hear it Every. Single. Time. you post a podcast.

  13. Xanthelei on August 31st, 2008 5:36 am

    /crai

Is broken for me. D= I only get a few seconds before it seems to mute itself. It plays, but I don’t hear anything.

    I’ll try again in a bit… hopefully it’s just a net hiccup. =/

  14. Saottleoveer on August 31st, 2008 6:17 am

I like it. I liked the bagpipes one as well (the tweaked one especially). What I like more than anything though is the idea of a BRK podcast… whatever jingle you choose! So stop your faffing and get that stream on the netways, pronto. ;)

  15. Garnett on August 31st, 2008 7:39 am

    /cheer!

It’s AWESOME! gotta like the brewfest theme in the background =P

    a winner for sure!

  16. Higgins on August 31st, 2008 7:44 am

It’s all win! Get your podcast going already BRK! :P

  17. Seaneous on August 31st, 2008 10:19 am

Yeah its not bad, but we all just want to get the first one out! i dont think anyone will care what the intro is like as long as you like it and the podcast comes out is all that matters. Like the instance podcast, you can change the intro if need by as time goes on.

  18. Mrs BRK on August 31st, 2008 10:37 am

    1. What was the comment in there about Wayne Newton?

    2. One of things that I love about The Simpsons and Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels is that most of the intro is consistent, but then the last part is unique to the episode. It makes the intro, well, interesting. That would be cool.

    3. Now that you are playing the game AND hosting special events AND blogging AND podcasting it’s time again for some bam bam for Mrs BRK (for which you will be handsomely rewarded with more yeowza pics!)

  19. Asahunt on August 31st, 2008 10:51 am

Wha? MrsBRK speaks! She wants BRK Bam Bam!

On a more related note: I love this one! I say definitely go with it, but you should look into the idea of having a different quote every time(as suggested by others).

  20. Scy on August 31st, 2008 11:05 am

BRK as somebody said no need for talk in the into. How about searching the innerwebs for some “Punk Bagpipe” you would be surprised at what is out there. ok not surprised as much as .
    flabbergasted

As the Misses said keep the intro the same and have your exit unique to each podcast. Another thing I think you should stream your podcast “LIVE” once a week. And during the “LIVE” version do some sort of promotional hoopla, kinda like your in game events only to a lesser degree.

One more thing you should totally use the last part of this as I think it suits nutjob like yourself :P .

Hmmm. Have you heard the band Flogging Molly? Might find something from them that’s a happy medium between the bagpipes and the heavy metal that still maintains the drunken-brawl feeling of being a dwarf. ;)

  22. Papaoomowmow on August 31st, 2008 1:27 pm

BRK,it is kind of you to tip your musical cap to Locks
    (Locks have Polka Dots)

    ; – )

  23. Zball on August 31st, 2008 3:25 pm

I heard the Brewfest music and nearly kicked a puppy. But it fit and I enjoyed it. I was actually laughing by the end of it. This is more like it.

  24. Brian on August 31st, 2008 3:27 pm

The name could use a bit of work. I know BigRedKitty is your brand and all, and so BigRedKitty Podcast feels natural – but what about a small tweak? Perhaps BigRedPodcast or something like that?

Also, this is easily the fifth comment I’ve tried to leave that I’ve had to leave more than once because WP-SpamFree refuses to recognize that I’m a real person running both javascript and cookies. It doesn’t work for me half the time. Kind of annoying. I’ve got everything normal on my end, so I’m not sure what could be causing it.

  25. G! on August 31st, 2008 5:21 pm

It sounds a bit…chatty. I get it is a podcast afterall, but there are just way to many things happening in there for an intro imo.

I loved the one before this one (bagpipes or not).

  26. Zaw on August 31st, 2008 6:38 pm

    Woot! A keeper!

  27. Asahunt on August 31st, 2008 8:34 pm

Hmm…I agree with Brian. BigRedPodcast sounds better than BigRedKitty Podcast

  28. syzygium on August 31st, 2008 9:15 pm

    Perfect!

I’ll be even better if you could change the joke thingie at the end for each podcast :)

  29. Rase on August 31st, 2008 11:18 pm

cant find a link anywhere in your post to listen to it :(

  30. Siobhann on September 1st, 2008 3:21 am

I like this one! It made me laugh. :-D

  31. Tego on September 2nd, 2008 11:39 am

as a beer loving dwarf paladin who plays around with all three specs (and yes it is annoying as hell to keep three sets of gear up to date… make that 6 sets… or more. need more than one to tank) i take offense to the ret paladin comment. as kings of the auto attack damage. we are one of the best dps classes to play while toasted

as for the into… I loved the bagpipes. but this is strangely dwarfish. so I like it too….. though the dwarf female scares me …. greatly
