BigRedKitty Podcast Episode One

[audio:http://www.bigredkitty.net/wp-content/mp3/BRKPodcastEpisode1.mp3]

So we’ve found an alternative Wordpress plugin: Blubrry. It’s working a h#ll of a lot better than that other PoG we have had. PodPress FTL, booo!

Now we’re working on the RSS feed cr@pola.

Edit: The iTunes Store is being naughty. We don’t know why, but it’s saying our feed is giving time-out errors.

Until we b!tchslap the iTunes store and make it work – time to get a bigger hammer – you can manually subscribe to the BigRedKitty Podcast yourself:

1. Launch iTunes
2. Select the Advanced menu
3. Select “Subscribe to Podcast…”
4. Entering the following URL: http://www.bigredkitty.net/podcast.xml
5. Click OK.

Edit #2: Well, the iTunes Store liked our handmade .xml file. How long it’ll take to show up on the iTunes Store… we have no idea.

Edit #3: “It may take some days before the podcast is accepted, since each new podcast has to be checked. You may rejected for unauthorized use of copyright material, bad language and sexual content, libel, or racist comments – but of course you would never do any of those things, so you should be OK.”

Is using the words, “Ret Pally” considered bad language?

Edit #4: We’ve put a little Java MP3 player in the side bar where the latest podcast will be available. Also, we’ve made a placeholder iTunes-subscription link like this that will be fully enabled once our podcast is accessible on the iTunes Store.

This sounds great! Will you be posting these casts to iTunes?

  2. Feiris on September 1st, 2008 1:07 am

For Hunting Party from what I read it seems to me you get mana regeneration Equal to .5% of your max mana per second. SO if you have 1000 mana you have and you are the recipient of a hunter Hunting party buff you will regen (1000*.5%= ) 5mana per second. So the 10,000 mana that a caster has will generate (10000*.5%= ) 50mana/second, or 250Mp5 by the old system. But the little hunter with 8,000 mana will regenerate (8000*.5%= ) 40Mana/second, or 200 Mp5. Not sure how good this is or not. I’m just doing the math.

I enjoyed this very much BRK! I hope you’re able to keep it up and do one every week (2 weeks?). I am so ticked about the Survival nerf! I really hope it doesn’t stay, otherwise I’ll have to bid farewell to explosive shot. Urrrghhhh.

It appears that whatever you name the post you post it in, is the title of the Podcast on iTunes, so, this title was Blubrry FTW? Just keep an eye out for that.

“Winged-out up the ying-yang” with regards to moth damage. I laughed, I cried, I was happy ;)

You aren’t showing up in the Podcast/iTunes Store yet but I followed the instructions for manual subscription and the 1st episode started downloading immediately!

    Hurrah! BRK Podcasts!
    Boo! Auto-load!

I dont like streaming video or audio from a browser when i can avoid it, prefering to download and watch on my own media player.

Big Red, can we have future ones either not auto-load or hidden so we have to click at least once to download the content please sir? :)

  9. Wamo on September 1st, 2008 5:06 am

I thought it was excellent, especially for your first episode. Great job! :D But I noticed two little problems:

One: Sporebats don’t have the spell interrupt ability, Nether Rays have that. Easy mistake to make, they are both floating blue Fish thingys afterall.. ;D

Two: Expose Weakness doesn’t reduce armor, it increases AP.

  10. shake on September 1st, 2008 5:23 am

keep them coming brk, its nice fun

For podcast xml I’d recommend using FeedBurner.com. It works well with WordPress and you can get moderately accurate subscription information. Of course, you might have to take the current iTunes feed down and re-submit (unless iTunes has an easier way of changing the xml feed location, it didn’t when I was ‘casting a few years ago).

Basically, you give FeedBurner info about your podcast, they create the xml for the feed and then you tell iTunes to get the feed from them. Users can then subscribe via iTunes or the raw rss feed.

I look forward to more ‘casts.

  13. kunukia on September 1st, 2008 8:19 am

Good times!! My morning coffee, and a BRK podcast. It does not get any better~!

By the way, I am not sure what people are talking about, with the different ways of listening. For me, ignorant as I am with technology, being able to click on the screen is pretty much what I can do, so please keep it simple. Thanks.

  14. BRK on September 1st, 2008 9:20 am

    1. Thank you Feiris
    2. Thank you Darkstar
    3. Storm, ours doesn’t auto-play, have no idea why yours does. /boggle
    4. Wamo, that’s why we need a co-host. Lassirra, we’re looking at you. /cast [target=Lassirra] Look
    5. Ludus, we use Feedburner for our posts and comments feeds, but iTunes not only hates our regular feeds, it *specifically* loathes Feedburner. iTunes seeems to want a feed all its own, hence our podcast.xml file.

  20. Boozsha on September 1st, 2008 12:04 pm

Great stuff, I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to get these on my iPod.

  21. Lee on September 1st, 2008 12:55 pm

Wow, I really loved the first episode. I know I wrote this elsewhere, but I can’t find my comment. Anyway, love to say it again, well done and keep’em coming, really loved the first episode and listened to it at least 6 times. :P

The only suggestion so far is, normalize the volume. Its too quite. Meaning I have to turn my volume on my speakers up, and then down as to not blast my music and kill my ears after woods. GarageBand has a filter, and its called normalize too.

  22. Felandra on September 1st, 2008 1:47 pm

Expose Weakness was providing AP for raiders and technically it isn’t unstacking with anything. You are thinking of Expose Armor from Rogues, but that has always been like that.

  23. Tchann on September 1st, 2008 2:38 pm

One hour of struggling with plug-ins, one download and one format conversion later (my mp3 player only plays – gasp! – mp3s), your podcast kept me entertained for one full walk to the grocery store and back. I’d say you hit on a good length there. :)

Also, you hit on a lot of topics I hadn’t heard about, despite my own husband being in the beta. Plus, you’re just down right fun to listen to. I look forward to the next one!

  24. Razorbax on September 1st, 2008 6:13 pm

That was great BRK. Very funny and informative;)

  25. Omadhaun on September 1st, 2008 7:27 pm

IMO iTunes is the Devil. That being said, for those of you with similar feelings:

You can add the RSS Feed http://www.bigredkitty.net/podcast.xml

in Outlook (or your RSS reader of choice).

You can play the .m4a file in VLC player on your computer, and it works wonderfully with RockBox (alternative firmware for iPods) as well.

  26. Nick S on September 1st, 2008 7:31 pm

    You sound like Bruce Campbell!

    It’s weiiiird…

Next podcast request – give us a “This is my boomstick!”

    You know you want to.

  27. lol on September 1st, 2008 9:59 pm

For a WoW podshow, should be more like “This is my BOOMKIN!”

  28. Heather on September 1st, 2008 11:56 pm

Great first podcast BRK. I’ve already subscribed on iTunes. The only thing I would ask: Could you please turn down the background music or whatever that is, if not eliminate it altogether. It is distracting and I’d much rather listen to what you’re saying.

  29. Fahr & Bacon on September 2nd, 2008 9:36 am

Background Brewfest Dwarves does make listening a bit more challenging, but it was great BRK. I too have subscribed through iTunes and look forward to having it downloaded every time it’s available.

I know the beta is monopolizing your time for sure and I agree that Blizzard can definitely use your expertise and hunter wisdom in making WotLK all the more balanced and better for hunters, but I hope you dust off “BRKtestbed” and return to training hunters the mid-level how-tos.

Other than that, the sound I get from the Snowflake seems only slightly improved, but it could be my $10 headphones don’t differentiate such quality. Nice podcast beginnings BRK. Keep ‘em up.

Great Job! I really enjoyed it. Congrats on the first of many Podcasts. Now the Void has been filled THANKS!!!

  31. Iru the Hunter on September 2nd, 2008 12:20 pm

Great Job, listening now and couldn’t wait to post. Enjoyable, you presentation is outstanding.

  32. Valrik on September 2nd, 2008 1:51 pm

    Very interesting and informative… =D

The music in the back made it harder to hear you so maybe you should turn it down a wee bit.

Also… I second the request for a “This is my Boomstick!” next podcast ^^

Bravo. One thing which distinguished this podcast from many others is how good you are at speaking. Sustained enthusiastic fluency of speech and fluid transitions between topics make for a lovely listening experience, and imho you have them.

I’m in two minds on the background sound. I like the atmosphere it creates, like you’re regaling us over a beer in a crowded pub. However there were one or two moments where I found it annoying. On balance though, I’m for it.

So much for the style. The quality of the content of course goes without saying.

  35. Viktel on September 2nd, 2008 4:31 pm

“Is using the words, “Ret Pally” considered bad language?”

Nope, but a “slightly damp” dwarf is way up there on the Ick factor.

    That might do ya in

    ;)

I read on the official WotLK talents on WoW.com it says that hunting party still regenerates mana, rage, energy or runic power.

  38. Rav on September 4th, 2008 10:45 am

Finally got a chance to hear it. Very nice!
