BRK Gorilladin Movie

BRK » 27 September 2008 » In Movie, Pets, WotLK »

Some people /scoffed at Gorilla and a level 74 hunter playing with level 62 fel orcs. Fair enough.

How about some stuff his own size, then.

WotLK Spoiler Alert! It’s filmed in Sholazar Basin. If you don’t want to see Wrath yet, don’t watch.

Download the YouTube-sized movie (30MB) here, and the full-sized movie (181MB) here.

I saw the first video and was impressed enough with that to want to go and train my very own gorilla; only thing stopping me was the fact that I had no spare stable slots. being so attached to the three I had, i couldn’t just let them go.. But a Gorilla shall be mine as soon as the patch goes live.

cheers for the vid; was good to watch.

I guess my question is this. BRK you’re rocking the T5. I’ll never have the opportunity to get T5 in any quantity at all so Will mend pet be sufficient to tank multiple mobs? Or would my gorilla (or any pet for that matter) have trouble tanking multiple mobs with a BM hunter?

  3. 2ndworst on September 27th, 2008 2:02 pm

can you turn on omen for your next movie?

would like to see how close you get.

    TIA

  4. Kensaki on September 27th, 2008 2:08 pm

Might want to remove the l after .net in the HQ movie link. :p

And keep it up I love your pet movies. :D

  5. BRK on September 27th, 2008 2:09 pm

Will mend pet be sufficient to tank multiple mobs?

With a Tenacity pet, properly spec’d, yes.

can you turn on omen for your next movie?

Nope; Omen does not work in the beta.

    Done. /doop

I want to PVE level my hunter to 80 as easily as possible and quicker is always nice. So I was assuming BM. So I was thinking an exotic tenacity pet. But if the Gorilla can do such a good job, it raises questions. So what are you seeing as best/your recommendation: 51BM+exotic, 51BM but use non-exotic Gorilla ( seems wrong or at least frustrating ), 50BM +Gorilla, or MM, Surv.

I.e., beta is changing frequently but currently what do you think you will level as? I fear that somewhere there is a rhino sitting in a stable sobbing.

  8. Josh on September 27th, 2008 2:31 pm

Look out for Godzera when the patch hits BRK…I never thought I would be looking forward to a Gorilla for a pet…Your vids kick ass BRK

  9. krubs on September 27th, 2008 2:36 pm

brk i know you love your t5 set bonus but to remind you not all hunters have that so will those pull volly gorilla thunderclap still work or will he just get owned plz try this for me cuz i wud like to try this but i dont have beta :X

  10. Vurag on September 27th, 2008 2:42 pm

There has been some debate about the BM 51 talent but remember that it also allows you 4 extra pet talent points. In my opinion, these points are more worthwhile than the opportunity to have an exotic pet.

  11. Supergreg on September 27th, 2008 2:56 pm

I’ve been using a Gorilla in beta without the T5 at all and haven’t had very much problem healing my pet. At 75 mend pet with the healing talents heals for over 1400. The only time I have to worry is when the mobs do high dot/ spell damage, but that can be countered with resist talents.

  12. Steelheart on September 27th, 2008 3:03 pm

Oh man…. I can’t wait until I start playing WoW again for Wrath… I am SO getting a gorilla! But I’m going to level my Dwarf Marksman, so I won’t get the 4 extra talent points… /cry

But I DO have a 70 Draenei Hunter as well! Ta-Da! He’s going to be my beast master, so he’s going to get the cool pets. What I’m thinking at the moment is this:

For my Dwarf - Moth for instances/raids, gorilla for soloing/questing.

For my Draenei - Core Hound for PvP, Worm for instances/soloing.

What do you think BRK? Should I stick with my plan, or do you recommend something better for my hunters? Keep in mind that my Draenei is going to be the Beast Master, while my Dwarf is going to be my Marksman.

    OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want one of those soooo bad now, can’t wait to get there, can’t wait to get there. I’m gonna get a gorilla next lol! 10 more levels and here I come Un’Goro!!!

    Nerf the ape, please.
My Gorilla fights by my side, since vanilla. And he is something special, but now, urg -.-

  15. Tomo on September 27th, 2008 3:37 pm

    BRK,

Does the new Volley spell work in the same way as it did with regards to misdirection? (ie transfers threat but doesn’t use any charges) If so then any hunter can simply gather x number of mobs with his pet regardless of what it is, cast MD every 30seconds and volley away!

  16. BRK on September 27th, 2008 3:52 pm

Does the new Volley spell work in the same way as it did with regards to misdirection?

Unknown, really. Yes MD goes off, but without an aggro-meter, we’re not positive how much of the Volley is transferred.

You’ll notice that 1) we didn’t MD once and Thunderstomp was plenty-strong enough to hold aggro, and 2) Volley has no cooldown at all; you don’t have to wait 30 seconds.

We chain-Volleyed every time. We did wait for a Thunderstomp to hit, but then we just kept Volley going until everything was dead.

AND we grabbed a Volley Glyph to make it even more fun.

  17. Lindalas on September 27th, 2008 4:14 pm

BRK, there are several threatmeters that do work in the beta (that use the official threat numbers). Take a look at ZThreatMeter for example:

  18. WB on September 27th, 2008 4:41 pm

So, I’m wondering if Gorilladin is a copyright or TM protected term of BRKWWA? And if so, what licensing fees you’re charging hunters that wish to name their first pet Gorilladin?

Cause the name is just too accurate! Nice vids as always.

  19. BigMe on September 27th, 2008 5:24 pm

Really loved your demonstration. Gorillas are cool, especially for Dwarf hunters, since they are bigger than them xD

    Think I’ll name him “Hugo”.

    Good Job :P

  20. Anonymous on September 27th, 2008 5:50 pm

I always wanted a gorilla, even had one for a while, but had to release it around 60 to get new ranks of spells unfortunately. Since the PTR went up I have been playing with one. The bad about the PTR is that there really is no real chance to see what it can do at equal level. Trying to clear multiple mobs is difficult at “equal level” with a pet thats 5 levels lower than you.

Although if you are one of those people who like to run friends alt’s through lower level instances, the Gorilla is currently the best pet for the job. literally running through all 4 wings of SM and killing EVERYTHING took me less than 15 minutes. SFK took under 5 (had to wait for the mage to open the door took 2).

  21. Howwie from Staghelm on September 27th, 2008 6:12 pm

I enjoyed that vid, makes me seriously wonder weather or not to get the Worm or the Gorilla for Wrath leveling.

I would love to see a video of a Pet that you believe does insane damage as your next Wrath Pet Video.

  22. Xanthelei on September 27th, 2008 6:36 pm

As awesome as Thunderstomp has become, I can’t handle the gorilla sounds. Yet for some reason I can handle the bear sounds… So I’ll probably grab a swiping bear. Already have on my lowbie hunter, for him to level with. :)

  23. Bethany on September 27th, 2008 6:44 pm

Hi BRK, I love your videos!

You have a great sense of humor and enthusiasm about your class that I wish more hunters had. While I’m not certain I could personally enjoy a gorilla as a pet, I can definitely appreciate their incredible AE tanking.

P.S. You sound just like Ray Romano from Ice Age/Everybody Loves Raymond! I love it!

  24. Gishar on September 27th, 2008 7:38 pm

*watches movie and begins to weep*

    It’s so beautiful…so very beautiful.

It’s going to suck so hard when they nerf Gorillas. However, watching this video, I KNOW they’re going to. Damn.

  25. Palladiamors on September 27th, 2008 8:47 pm

I am not trying to slight you in the least, BRK, but….. are you guys serious? Don’t tell me you can’t handle four mobs at a time without an AoE pet. What was really impressive about the gorilla was BRK being able to AoE with Volley the entire time with no aggro coming off on him. THAT was a very nice display of the apes power.

  26. Indi on September 27th, 2008 10:07 pm

I leveled a gorilla on the ptr to 70 and it can tank up to 12 level 70 mobs at the same time (as high as I’ve tried). I also was able to get to the “boss”/4th wave in the Battle of the Crimson Watch quest, which is suggested as a 5 person quest, where mend pet and t5 bonus wasn’t enough, sadly. In SM Cath., I just send Gorilla into the final room straight to the boss to aggro everything and it’s a joke how fast everything drops.

Couple notes I’ve seen so far: thunderstomp doesn’t work when only fighting one mob (you can manually cast the spell, but it isn’t automatic). And, the Kill Command bonus (+% dmg on next 3 attacks) is consumed per each mob that is affected. So, tanking 3 mobs will consume it with one thunderstomp, but tanking 1 mob will need 3 thunderstomps (cast manually, as mentioned).

  27. Dilwen on September 27th, 2008 11:35 pm

Question regarding leveling pets in general: if I were to take a pet today and it was level 30, would that pet automatically jump to level 65 after patch 3.0.2 hit the live servers? Or would that only apply to pets that are tamed after the patch is live?

    Thanks!

  28. Hathorn on September 28th, 2008 12:41 am

    Hey, uh, BRK?

Your link to the Youtube version is wrongo. You have bigredkitty.netl as the link, so basically, it just phailed.

    Hopefully you can fix it.

  29. Skulane on September 28th, 2008 2:52 am

    Nice Vid
I have a Gorilla in the PTR right now its awsome to take onn so many mobs.

  30. Phourc on September 28th, 2008 4:20 am

Ooh! Ooh! I can answer that, Dilwen: it will be level 30 when the patch hits, but after that point it’ll pop up to 5 levels below you whenever you unstable it. I guess it’s easier to program than checking constantly for you to ding.

Anyway, I have to say that that. is. amazing. I don’t want a gorilla for my pet in wrath, heck I don’t really like them as a pet at all, but I don’t see how I could *not* get one if I enjoy leveling quickly.

  31. Squeeky on September 28th, 2008 5:54 am

so, are soloing 6-8 mobs a new thing for you or what

  32. Phourc on September 28th, 2008 6:24 am

Yes it is, actually, since I can’t attack more than one at a time without pulling them off my pet.

  33. Eliyas on September 28th, 2008 8:03 am

    BRK-

Did you see they were changing the MD cooldown to 30 seconds? That means you could use it pretty much every pull. And I seem to recall reading somewhere that MD did affect volley, but I’ve never seen any proof of that.

Have you considered working multishot into the rotation? Would you put our more DPS that way? Could the gorilla hold aggro against that?

    thanks!

  34. Fatal on September 28th, 2008 8:12 am

Hi BRK, i have a few questions.

Does the new AoTV proc off volley?
    Can non-Bm hunters do this?
Can BM hunters without t5 set bonus do this?

    thanks,
    Fatal.

  35. Notvalvan on September 28th, 2008 9:29 am

    Fatal-

“Does the new AoTV proc off volley?”

It doesn’t proc on the PTR, which probably means that it doesn’t proc on the beta. However, Viper is eventually getting changed to be passive, so it doesn’t matter all that much.

    “Can non-Bm hunters do this?”

Yes. Very much so, in fact. I have done this with both BM and Survival, but I can see Marks being able to do it as well. All you need is a Gorilla and Volley and neither is spec specific. However, BM gives you the advantage of having stronger healing, and a pet that does more damage, so you will be able to do it more efficiently in a way. Survival has a an advantage in Explosive Shot. I tried out a rotation of Explosive Shot-Volley-Explosive Shot-Volley, and mobs just melted. As for Marksman? Well, they have Barrage, but really, they have nothing that helps this strategy out. However, they don’t have anything that HINDERS the strategy either, so go nuts…

“Can BM hunters without t5 set bonus do this?”

He says it in the video and I can confirm that no, you don’t need tier 5 to do this. Four to five mobs is nothing for mend pet to handle with any gear set up, and I was doing so in full PvP gear. However, if you go nuts and pull eight to ten, then you might end up needing a BM spec and a couple pieces of tier 5. Just play it conservatively, and you can do it with any gear level.

  36. Fatal on September 28th, 2008 10:33 am

    @Notvalvan:

    Thanks for answering :D
My mind is at ease now, nothing left to do but to wait for WoTLk and hope that this isn’t going to get nerfed.

  37. Tim on September 28th, 2008 7:53 pm

Dang, just get a Tanking pet and you can take out dozens of mobs at once. I wonder if it wouldn’t be better to level this way then with a Ferocity or cunning pet? What do you think, BRK?

  38. Thuor on September 29th, 2008 9:49 am

So no t5 still works. Ok i wanan belive it but to belive it i wanna see it ok Mr. BRK???

  39. x0reaper0x on September 29th, 2008 3:35 pm

the thing i was most impressed with and most interested in seeing…. chain vollies that crit… good to not see hits of 110 =D

  40. Zymark on September 30th, 2008 6:35 am

went and 2 man’d Ony on the level 80 premades with a priest and my gorilladin. I know it’s nothing big but we also went and 2 man’d the trash and Attumen the Huntsman. But the reality of the matter is that he can AOE tank really well.

  41. Formorian on September 30th, 2008 11:38 am

    BRk,
Have been a fan of your vids for awhile now. My second main is a hunter (i dual box) and as soon as I saw the previous Gorilla vid immediately went and camped the rare in Un’Gorro (although for those that don’t know he doesn’t know Tstomp so if you want to use it before patch, tame a diff gorilla first and learn Tstomp, had to drop one of my other pets because of this). Even with Tstomp on 1 min CD he works very well. Keep up the good work and information for us hunters. I just hope they don’t nerf this.

  42. Deethe on September 30th, 2008 1:59 pm

I’m interested to know what the gorilladin’s limits are. I have one of the premade level 80 hunters with a 77 gorilla (no Tier 5 of course). This morning, I was able to solo Steamvaults without too much trouble. The hardest part was killing the tanks in time on the last boss.

  43. Marathonian on October 2nd, 2008 3:38 am

Well now that Gorillas are one of the better solo pets to have after the patch goes live,I sent my little 32 NE huntress to tame one.

First attempt:Went beautifully!I spotted one right of the road in STV.I had chain trapped it after a Distracting Shot to get it’s attention after and was 2 seconds away from having one when a stupid assed 70 human warrior escorting a lowbie dwarf watching me tame for over half the tame one-shotted it!You killed my tame! You bastard!

Second attempt:I finally track down another 32 gorilla.Same thing, perfect tame until…a 32 orc hunter with a gorilla of his own decides to kill my tame and prevent me from getting one myself by killing every 32 around.More than a little pissed at this point,I find a nice 36 raptor nearby.Distracting Shot, kite towards said asshat orc,run right to him and FD!Serves you right you green jerk!He was a cussin me in orcish before he died.

I finally got my gorilla after an hour or so.Ended up taming a trash pet to kill the 33s until I got a 32 to spawn.I only wish I had gotten the name of the human warrior.I would have dearly loved to say hello to him in AV on my main,a BE huntress.

    Does STV just attract griefers?

    welcome to 3 years ago?

ive had a ‘rilla since i was level 53, 3 years ago. they were good back then as well. the new pet changes just makes them better now.

you guys are acting like gorilla’s never existed till BRK got one. I’m ROFL in rl. can you say bandwagon?

Hi there - Long time since u posted the Gorilla but just wanna say that he is damn fun to have - i have been playing on the PTR a few days with it and went Mount Hyjal - in the first 3 Bosses he had done almost a Miljon Dmg all by him self and highest crit was the insanely 3248! Dmg on thunderstomp.

My gear is BT/MH - 5/8 T6 aprox 34% Crit 2,2k Ap But Gorilla Rox imo on AoE pulls

Wow. That was awesome aoe grinding!

    My question is:

Will a lvl 70 gorilla be able to hold the aggro without the Guard Dog (2/2) talent or is it required?

  49. Rugus on October 15th, 2008 8:06 am

    > Will a lvl 70 gorilla be able to hold the aggro
    > without the Guard Dog (2/2) talent or is it required?

Not really… even with GD(2/2) you have to organize your DPS and manage FD/MD to lose some aggro. It’s not “the” solution but it opens a new gameplay world for hunters. AOE grind is something we could never imagine, so that’s a LOT of fun. On PTR I managed to aggro 8 mobs (level 68-69) and kill all of them with 2 volleys (using 2 ammo shots… cheap way!). Of course I had to FD and MD to avoid some aggro :)

  50. Cobbler (Aman'Thul) on October 16th, 2008 7:20 pm

After watching the video I immediately trained a U’cha in Ungoro. Had a lot of fun with him and got him to 62. After patch dropped he came straight in at lvl 65.

Wicked fun. Grinding is a breeze.

I’m 375 dragonscale L/W and have the Ebon 3 piece set and epics from Kara and Heroics and badge and shattered sun gear. I can very rarely pull aggro off my gorilla at all.

I went to normal ramparts solo to check out the potential of the gorilla. At gorilla lvl 66 I solo’d up to last boss. Killed Veredan and got the dragon down to 2k health before we both died. Now gorilla is at lvl 69 I don’t see any problem at all soloing normal Ramparts.

Best fun I have had in a long time and grinding mats is an absolute breeze.

Thanks BRK for the awesome videos and tips :)

This video had me very impressed!

What is the talent build for the pet?

What skills do you have on auto-cast for the Gorilla?

What skills do you use manually? Thunderstomp only?
