Awesome! Extreme humor mixed with superb visuals!

I was looking forward to that worm when i saw i on Petopia.
On the PTR I had the same experience with he spore bat. Shame actually, i think the spore bat looks good, alien like looks. But yeah I abandoned that pet faster than you can say “BRK FTW”.

Please keep those movies coming, love them!

I DEMAND TO SEE MORE FURRIES

  3. Fobok on October 7th, 2008 10:57 pm

It’s getting harder and harder to pick what pet I’ll want to level with. There’s just so many cool pets out there. I don’t really like the look of the worms in general (that one was pretty good, I admit), but that armour debuff seems so good, more useful than the rhino’s knockback.

  4. Phyllixia on October 7th, 2008 11:07 pm

Bugger, I had high hopes that Blizz would make spore bats useful… :(

  5. Indi on October 7th, 2008 11:11 pm

Wind serpents didn’t back out of range when they were tanking (because the mob would just follow). They would cast appropriately. It was in raids when something else was tanking that it would back out of melee to cast. This was fixed with a “/cast [target=pet target] Lightning Breath” (off the top of my head) line in the steady/auto macro. So, to truly test it out, BRK, you should become a melee hunter and have aggro and see if the Wind Serpent backs out.

Nice video overall. I’m still going with a gorilladin though. And BRK, you should bind “/wave” to a button so you don’t have to type it a million times each video.

  6. spencer on October 7th, 2008 11:24 pm

brilliant idea on the /wave macro. Unfortunately, brk may not have the actionbar space!

    Waaaaawaaaauuuuuugghhhhhhhh!!!!!!
(seriously, it was a good idea. And brk, keep up these amazing movies.

  7. Jotun & Tartarus on October 8th, 2008 12:02 am

That worm came straight outta hell!

  8. Grimmohrg on October 8th, 2008 12:44 am

I’ve only known a windserpent to jump out of melee when the target was stunned .. really bugged me when using Intimidation. I’d love to hear that this problem was fixed, though I still probably wouldn’t tame a flappy snake again.

  9. Nick S. on October 8th, 2008 12:55 am

As long as the Worm’s Acid Spit debuff works on bosses (it’d better!) it’ll be a staple of my stable.

  10. Jorka on October 8th, 2008 12:58 am

BRK. Why don’t you tell us all how you really feel about Sporebats?

  11. Darksentinel on October 8th, 2008 1:02 am

    Hi BRK
    Awesome movie.
You mentioned Volley critting, is this really the case? I was under the impression that true channeled AOE spells (Volley, Blizzard etc) couldn’t crit (and therefore incidentally wouldn’t interrupt flag caps in BGs)? I thought the big yellow numbers were due to Autoshot crits. So has this been changed in Wrath, or am I just deluded?

  12. Indi on October 8th, 2008 1:29 am

    @Darksentinel

Actually on the PTR, you don’t autoshot while channeling volley. Autoshot numbers would be white. There still is the sound of shooting normal autoshot arrows (i’m not sure about bullets) but no ammo is consumed and there are no white numbers. It is possible to crit with volley and it can crit for 1100+ when specced mm/bm at level 70. It’s truly insane.

  13. Garryl on October 8th, 2008 1:52 am

    @ Darksentinel:

Many long-held concepts are being changed in WotLK. Most channeled AoEs (Volley, Blizzard, I think also Hurricane, probably others) are being allowed to crit, along with some Warlock DoTs (well, sort of, and only with a deep Affliction talent) and the Shadow Priest’s Mind Flay.

Also, the big yellow crits are from abilities being used, either pet abilities or hunter abilities. Auto Shot crits show up as big white crits, just like auto-attack.

    @ Nick S.:

Worm’s debuff to armor is slated to work on bosses, along with other debuffs from pets. However, under the new system for buffs and debuffs, this isn’t generally as great as it sounds. The worm’s armor debuff is under the “Armor Debuff (Major)” category, along with Sunder Armor and Expose Armor. Only the most powerful version available on the mob will actually count. However, at max level, the three different forms will reduce armor by the exact same amount once fully stacked or at max combo points. Sting from wasps is getting the same treatment in the “Armor Debuff (Minor)” category, competing against Faerie Fire and Curse of Recklessness. Spore Cloud from sporebats is currently up in the air, as it doesn’t do as much as either category, but isn’t up continually. Changes pending and testing required, but it looks like this debuff might stack with the other two. Or, more likely, it’ll just be tossed off as a weaker minor armor debuff. Only time and/or Blizzard will tell.
More information about the new system and its ramifications can be found here:

One day, one day soon, the day of the sporebats will come, you shall be left quivering in fear, FEAR I TELLS YA!

Seriously BRK, how about showing some of the advantages of sporebats, like the fact that they have a *aoe* armor reduction ability (which refuses to autocast and sometimes refuses to work at all), they do about half the damage of a gorilladin’s aoe, but you get the armor reduction thrown in.

Of course gorilladins are still better, but sporebats are (well, will be once blizzard fixes them) perfectly good pets.

Oh, and they are pretty too!

  15. Glaucus on October 8th, 2008 2:52 am

I’m not sure if anyone else said this before, but you forgot to mention that Spore cloud is an aoe skill, it could be quite handy in some situations imo ;)

  16. Teridom on October 8th, 2008 4:01 am

I know it must have been hard surpressing your gag reflex while making the sporebat vid, but us wierd folks who like ‘em appreciate it very much (also thanks for makin some vids of “non BRK-approved” pets – keep em coming!)

  17. wowtard on October 8th, 2008 4:34 am

Spore Cloud debuff doesn’t conflict with other armor debuffs, making it extremely useful in raids where every edge counts.

  18. kunukia on October 8th, 2008 6:48 am

I kinda like windserpents, and have always had a yen to have a sporebat. Looks like the sporebat will still be just a yen. Worms? Tried one in Beta…and they kinda bother me.

If I ever get a sporebat, it shall be called Yen. My Orc’s gorilla is named BRKapproved.

  19. Pajay on October 8th, 2008 7:44 am

im getting addicted to this site damn..
    nice video once again:)

  20. Chris on October 8th, 2008 8:39 am

Just out of curiosity, what addon was BRK using that shows a little number countdown for spell cooldowns?

  21. Rugus on October 8th, 2008 9:05 am

Actually, AOE grind using a gorilla and volley is driving me totally insane. I *LOVE* it. I’m on the EU PTR server with my hunter 70 in badge/drops gear (and 2-3 blues). Specced mostly MM I crit around 1300 with Volley (my PTR crit rate is now 34% unbuffed). Also, something that made my jaws drop… When channeling Volley I see a HUGE dps overall damage, around 1200 DPS (monitored via Recount addon) while under normal shot rotation runs (single target) I’m around 650 DPS.

  22. Erlix on October 8th, 2008 9:37 am

The fact that Sporebats continue to be a “bad” choice for an effective pet makes me a sad panda, indeed. :-(

  23. Nick S. on October 8th, 2008 9:43 am

    @Garryl

I suspected as much (because if they did stack, well, why would you want any other pet?) but I’m mostly interested in using it in groups without other armor debuffs… 5-mans and 10-mans, mostly.

  24. C. E. Croix on October 8th, 2008 10:21 am

It’s not that they’re bad pets, it’s just that something got messed up with their ability to autocast it. It worked fine on the PTR up until a couple of builds ago.

And it’s not just sporebats, either. Nether rays used to only autocast nether shock if what you were fighting was about to cast something. Now it goes off on anything that has mana, regardless if it’s firing up a spell or not.

  25. Felandra on October 8th, 2008 11:28 am

What a nice new skin for Wind Serpents. Gotta love it. Too bad they have been nerfed for DPS.

BRK, don’t diss Rake just yet. It is the most OP pet abiltity at this time, to the point that it is getting nerfed soon. Try it out before they nerf it.

  26. Brannie on October 8th, 2008 1:01 pm

The Gorilla AOE, Thunderstomp, is broken now as well :( Seems like the autocast doesn’t work and the manual cast only happens when the focus dump is on CD (and you have focus left to use).

  27. GwolfGarona on October 8th, 2008 1:35 pm

2 things i’m waiting for BRK to post about:

    BRK-approved glyphs

    A moth movie

  28. Shadow on October 8th, 2008 2:26 pm

He already did a moth movie.

  29. Sathi on October 8th, 2008 4:59 pm

    Wait, volley can crit? Cool!

  30. Ihlos on October 8th, 2008 5:05 pm

    @ fobok

Dont forget that rhino’s stampede also interrupts, so its a multiple target interrupt.

    - anyone else having trouble with the sound on these videos?

  31. Sleepy on October 8th, 2008 6:10 pm

Thank god, wind serpents will rock now, i can be lazy with them and still have the DPS i want ^_^

    yay for being lazy

  32. Zenotek on October 8th, 2008 7:27 pm

Although I am interested in trying out the new pets in LK, I still wonder about the utility of the “old world” pets such as cat, ravager, boar, etc.

BRK, will you have a “newbie” guide for those who show up in Northrend and need some help in choosing a leveling pet?

    Zenotek and Buster (cat)

  33. Wolfrunner on October 9th, 2008 2:41 am

BRK, I had to stop at the beginning of your movie when you started on the Sporebat.

Multiple mobs around Sporebat will cause it to fire Spore Cloud with it on Auto Fire. Tried, tested, and true on the PTR. Not sure about the Beta Servers though.
