We’re Trying Everything

Dear Game Masters,

I run the WoW-blog www.bigredkitty.net and one of the projects I’m working on is a hunter-guide movie to all the new hunter-pets in WotLK. I’ve been successful with everything, except a Spirit Beast. The guy just won’t spawn for me.

My blog is listed on the WorldofWarcraft “class links” section as a Blizzard-approved hunter resource. In this capacity, could you please help me find and tame a Spirit Beast? I only need it for five minutes to make my movie, and then you can take it away.

TYVM BRK

Dear BRK,

Yo, Foshizzle!

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced regarding this pet, Daniel. Sadly, spawning it is not a service that we are able to provide at this time, however to ensure that you have the proper information for hunting down this pet, I am able to reveal that it is infact a rare spawn mob, that will occasionally spawn in Sholazar basin. I am very sorry that we are unable to assist in the creation of your video by spawning this creature.

Should you require further assistance, please submit another help request the next time you are online. We hope you continue to enjoy your experience in World of Warcraft!

For any game play questions, please refer to our site at http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/

*** Please do not respond to this email as all conversations on this matter would be best handled online. ***

The world is a sad, sad place when a lone hunter-blogger can’t use his meager Internet credentials to affect a $16 billion company.

They didn’t even really say, “Yo foshizzle”.  /sniff

good luck on camping some more ;)

  2. Higgins on October 7th, 2008 8:09 am

Now THAT is trying everything! Good on ya BRK, you’ll get the beastie soon!

  3. Dahk on October 7th, 2008 8:15 am

    Poor BRK.

  4. Goofball Jones on October 7th, 2008 8:26 am

You had me going there with the “Yo foshizzle”. I was thinking “wow, these guys at Blizzard are big fans of the BRK!”

But it’s also good to see that you’re still just like all of us…the great, unwashed masses.

  6. Nassira on October 7th, 2008 8:42 am

Aww, I’m sorry! I wish they would’ve said Foshizzle. At least it would’ve softened the blow.

But that just means there is a truly rare pet out there, one that’s meant to be an amazing accomplishment! Which means it’s time to pitch the tent and roast some ‘mellows, cuz we’re goin’ campin’, baby, yeah!

BRK: “It was that accursed Spirit Beast that razeed me; made a poor pegging lubber of me for ever and a day!… I’ll chase him round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition’s flames before I give him up. And this is what ye have come to my website for, men! to chase that Spirit Beast on both sides of land, and over all sides of earth, till he gives me my five minute demo movie….”

    WHAT SAY YE!

  8. Prenna on October 7th, 2008 9:11 am

Wow, the almight BRK can’t cut a break, huh?

If I could, I’d help ya…but I’m not in beta.

So, I’ll wish you all the luck that this beastie will spawn soon and end all this “fun” so you can move on to something else…that’s equally as “fun”.

    /huggles

  9. forthepie on October 7th, 2008 9:23 am

Don’t be sad BRK. We still wub ya even if you can’t find the spirit beast to tame.

  10. Jamison on October 7th, 2008 9:24 am

You need to get a cadre of people (non-hunters) to camp the whole area for you and give them you’re cell phone number to call you the second it appears. You’ve got enough fans who are in beta I bet you could get an around the clock vigil going. Heck we could start a whole political protest style movement, complete with T-Shirts… “I Camped the Spirit Beast for BRK!”

take the zen approach: stop looking for it. then, it will come to you.

  13. Fahr & Bacon on October 7th, 2008 9:46 am

Like Goofball above, you had me with the “foshizzle” thing.

But I too think getting others to watch for the beast and let you know asap would work… if you could instantly break away from work at a moments notice.

Good luck BRK. I’d help camp if I had a beta key.

  14. Neil on October 7th, 2008 10:11 am

Good luck, BRK! I know you can do it!

But beware … many will call for you to camp it 24/7, but that way lies madness.

  15. Michael on October 7th, 2008 10:40 am

Unfortunately, if my beta experiences are common, then there are a million people who know you want one and are killing it on sight just to annoy you.

Beta is griefer heaven. Sad but true.

  16. Artorin on October 7th, 2008 10:48 am

Madness? ….. THIS IS SPIRIT BEAST!!!

  17. Berg on October 7th, 2008 11:34 am

Take your time and just fly by the spawn area when in the area. Who knows. Being beta it might even have a buggy respawn rate. Good luck!

  18. Misty on October 7th, 2008 11:47 am

“I am able to reveal that it is infact a rare spawn mob, that will occasionally spawn in Sholazar basin.”

Well /GEE GOLLY/ thanks for going out on a limb to provide that certainly not already common knowledge.

  19. mudge on October 7th, 2008 12:04 pm

Best of Luck to you BRK. I just tamed a rare spawn Icy White Gorilla named Uhk’loc. I had two advantages over you however – one, I am retired so I could invest 8 hours of intermitant checking, and two, Uhk’loc spawns in the back of a cave in Un Goro so it was just a matter of camping on a safe spot and waiting.

  20. Silverline on October 7th, 2008 12:43 pm

I wonder if anyone else has seen the Spirit beast yet…. Maybe BRK could ask all the Death Kanigits and other players about to give him a heads up on the Spirit Beast and prevent anyone from killing him so he can make the movie.

Of course this is rather wishful thinking, considering SOME players.

  21. Samala on October 7th, 2008 1:14 pm

Personally, taken out of context, this just hits the spot for me:

“Sadly, spawning it is not a service that we are able to provide at this time”

  22. kunukia on October 7th, 2008 1:23 pm

Do we even know the exact spawn point? Or are there several?

I would volunteer for Spirit Beast watch in another level, if it would help. T-shirts! Good thinking, Jamison.

“I Camped the Spirit Beast for BRK! (And all I got was this lousy T-shirt…)”

  23. Papaoomowmow on October 7th, 2008 1:31 pm

Love the Moby Dick palaver in the comments…lol

If I ever create another toon, gotta try for one of the names
    Queequeg,Tashtego and/or Daggoo.

BRK, some fine day when you are Level 280; and a young guildie, your grandson, asks for help in a Scholozar quest…
there da Spirit Beast will be……

  24. Ihlos on October 7th, 2008 1:50 pm

I impart to you a portion of my irish luck. Now get back out there!

  25. Alex on October 7th, 2008 3:02 pm

How about “300 Naked Knights – Run for the Spirit Beast”??

  26. Rua on October 7th, 2008 3:04 pm

Maybe it’s time for some reverse psychology?

    Go to Sholazar Basin and
/y I don’t care if I never find that stupid Spirit Beast. He’s probably been photoshopped in his screencaps and really ugly IRL.

With any luck, he’ll hear ya, enrage and pop out just to show you what for.

    ^_^

    Edit: 405 method not allowed?
Am I doing something illegal-ish just posting?

  27. Rokisha on October 7th, 2008 3:29 pm

    We Love ya anyway…

  28. Malgato on October 7th, 2008 3:37 pm

But seriously, when are we getting the spirit beast movie?

    ;p

  29. Kemonojin on October 7th, 2008 6:48 pm

Anyone else get the feeling that most GMs are a slightly more elaborate version of the Eliza program from the 70s, sometimes? A couple of variables for name, and take a few words from the post, add in a little ‘it sucks to be you’ and you have pretty much every interaction with a GM.

BRK: When I wanted Broken Tooth back before they turned him into a generic cat, I logged out in the middle of the three spawn points on a high place where I could see all three, and checked as often as I possibly could, camping the thing for an hour or so at a time. I finally gave up after a week and was leaving, when suddenly he attacks me. I think Rua might be right. :-p

  30. Alastren on October 8th, 2008 5:39 am

Yep, you gotta leave it. I camped Humar for two days when I was in my upper 20s and never once saw him. Got to 70, rolled an alt druid, leveled through the barrens… First time up to that ridge, ten months after giving up, Humar was sitting there all nice and pretty like he was waiting for me.

    I was so mad.

  31. Xeluu on October 8th, 2008 5:51 am

    D: Aw, poor BRK.

If you’ve got a decent amount of friends on the beta, you could always ask them to keep an eye out for you. Not much you can do other than hope at this point.

Looking forward to seeing the movie, whenever it comes out! :3

  32. Torgall on October 8th, 2008 12:44 pm

Thanks for the perseverance BRK! Love the site btw. Been religiously following it since I discovered it about a month ago. Not a gorilla man myself but since following the adventures of gorilladin, I went and camped in that damp cave in northeastern Ungoro so I can tame Uhk’loc (luckily only took a day). No Stranglethorn monkey for me, I want something a little less common. Anyway, this will give me some time to level him up so we’re ready for when the expansion hits the ground. Of course, I feel sad not adventuring with my plain old Ashenvale bear that’s been with me since level 24. I’ll probably alternate both when the time comes around. I’ve never tamed a cat before, but if you finally do grab hold of that spirit beast, I may just have to follow suite.

  33. Zwingli on October 8th, 2008 5:47 pm

I picked up the white rare gorrilla in Un’Guro the other day. He’s leveld with me to the mid 60s, or so. Out of the last 10-15 levels…he’s not lost aggro on multiple mobs, not once. Yes, the thunderstomp cool down is horribly long, but it is easy to pull single mobs during the down time. I’m just saying, that I’ve liked it a lot. I can’t wait for WotLK to hit, and the super fast cool down.

  34. Ellie on October 8th, 2008 8:17 pm

haha. I’m surprised they didn’t say something along the lines of, “Go delete everything in your interface folders and WTF folders and restart your computer.”

  35. Mike on October 9th, 2008 12:06 am

hehe good luck BRK in getting a spirit beast, i tamed one earlier today, quite a nice pet.
i found it near skyreach pillar.
hope to see another quality vid very soon

  36. Nyctreinar on October 9th, 2008 11:25 am

Jamison does have a good idea. I’d buy the T-shirt! Make one, with the BRK logo and all, and put it on Rocketfish or something!

  37. 5318008 on October 9th, 2008 8:49 pm

“BRK went to Sholazar Basin and he I got was this lousy t-shirt” ?
