Back to Azeroth
Teh squeekie priestie said: “OK! It’s 7:30, let’s head over to Theramore and get ready to take down Cairn Bloodhoof to start getting our Black War Bears!”
BRK: “Um, Cay? There are only eight people online. We may be buffed, but we’re probably not going to take out a capital city boss with only eight people, one of them a level 68 discipline priest.”
Cay: “DON’T MOCK MEH DISCIPLINE!”
BRK: “Nevah. But Bloodhoof is out.”
Cay: “Let’s get some Zul’Gurub mounts!”
BRK: “Now you’re rockin’ it hard-core.”
Cay: “SQUEEEK!”
So the eight-man gang went to ZG, took out Snake boss for giggles, then Raptor, and Tiger bosses. No mounts. Phooey. Hydra boss for kicks, then Hakkar for the achievement. Sweet.
Cay: “What’s next?”
The gang, “AQ20!”
Cay, in ghcat: “Anybody want to clear AQ20?”
We loaded up two more people and went to Silithus. You know the first room of trash? Paladin tanked the whole room. Everything. Volley FTW!
Cleared the place without an care in the world. That’s another achievement done.
Cay: “What’s next!”
The gang, “AQ40!”
Cay, in gchat: “Anybody want to try AQ40?”
We loaded up four more people and started AQ40.
A tier-5 geared Paladin cannot tank AQ40’s first boss and his four adds. OK, maybe that was a bit much. First, AoE-tank the four adds, then do the boss. That’s a hint from your Uncle BRK.
AQ40 cleared to the Twin Emperors. Then we ran into issues as we didn’t have two warlocks. We brought in a 67 warlock and tried again, but there was some Misdirection-confusion and, even though we were taking them down 20% before they teleported, they wouldn’t stay separated and they healed themselves back up. We called it a night and we plan to go back and finish the job tonight.
So we did AG, AQ20, and almost finished AQ40, all in one night, from 8pm to 1am.
Elune, we hate achievements.
But on a high-note, at point during the trash, we achieved a Recount-calculated 5400DPS using Volley and Gorilladin. /sputter

tehehe, that does sound like fun… I guess Blizzard wants most of the people to do the Acheivements instead of raiding.
I was there! That Recount calculated data was all mine!
I rolled an alt on Drenden because my realm was down, and I have to say- people there are quite nice
Someone had a “good morning server” conversation in /trade without having anyone call them names, and somebody who was turning scraps of leather into light leather for me gave me a gold to “get me started”!
It was like the twilight zone… I’m so used to vitriolic ally pvp realm nonsense I had trouble adjusting
My guild did basically the same thing last night too. I didn’t pay attention to recount on trash, but did manage to pull almost 3900 dps on Ouro. Also, I noticed that most of the silithid trash is tameable.
I’ve hit Recount-calculated 6500 DPS using just volley on Hyjal trash. That is just fun.
You did Huhuran?! With 14 people?!
My brain hurts at the logistics. D:
Volley + Gorilladin = fun
Is this what Mages and locks have been doing for years?
Just the Locks, we mages are too squishy ^^. Now if we can move a city why can’t we keep an elemental around all the time? *Schemes*
BRK, why do you hate achievements?
because Blizz put them in to eat the gold and keep the masses busy for the next month.
we prob clear hyjal tonight so i’ll respec MM w improved barrage(and gorilladin) to play with it …. let the numbers fly ….. lol
that sounds really fun!!
nice story as always brk
You can take cairne with 8 people if it’s off-peak or heck even on if they don’t turn up to defend we 5 manned him before TBC was even released
Heh, I posted a similar thing about our new Volley on my own blog…. TOTALLY rocks
You can’t take any of the city leaders at the moment without a large number of well geared and well organized people. All the guards are buffed to 75, which is easy enough to deal with, but far worse is the bosses themselves are buffed. I was in a 40 man raid on Silvermoon, and while we got to the boss easily enough, we barely got him to 95%. No one could hit him. He counts as an 83, so…miss, miss, miss, glancing blow, miss…you get the idea.
My weekend was actually pretty similar…did Ony, then AQ20, then tried AQ40 but gave up at the first boss (group was only 9ish people, most 63-65). I’m cursing Hallow’s End more than anything…I love the holiday, but it’s wrecking my get-tokens-for-talbuk and level-alts-before-RAF-expires time.
How the heck are people managing to pull 2500+ DPS? I’m SSC/TK geared and have been playing around with Marksmanship for the first time recently.
I just can’t get anywhere near those numbers. Are other people simply geared up the wazoo?
I’m starting off with a scorpid sting, using an auto/steady rotation, firing arcane whenever it’s off cooldown and unleashing chimeras just in time to refresh the sting and I’m barely getting 1200DPS.
I can’t figure out what I’m doing that horribly wrong :/
Yeah I would have love to see pics of lvl 75 Bluffwatcher’s tearing that @$$ up, lol
Shame the mount didnt drop, props on doing AQ20 tho.
By the way BRK, you’ve inspired me to finally level my hunter
For as long as i have played wow i have played a warlock, but i’ve always loved the idea of hunters, and now with pets being able to spec i feel that hunters are even more connected with their pets.
-Jokkefanten lvl 21 hunter on Twisting Nether EU/lvl 70 Warlock on The Maelstrom EU.
just a little tip, you dont need a warlock to tank the emperors (except the first time on the caster).
Once they’re in possition, a warrior can tank him just fine by just spamming demo/battleshout to gain threat. I guess a paladin can do a similar thing just by healing himself.
@5318008 – 1200 seems pretty low, but the 2600+ is AOE damage. Hunters are very viable at doing some fun AOE damage finally. Gorillas have only a 10 sec cooldown on thunderstop (AOE damage ability) and volley shouldn’t pull agro too quickly if your gorilla is close to your level. A well played pally tank or a warrior who has learned the new wave attack ability will hold agro even better than a gorilladin.
That said, I’m not sure why you’re not doing more that 1200 DPS on a single target. Silly question, but can I assume you are buffing TSA and using high end ammo at least?
Try out Survival unless you’re infatuated with MM only and see if your DPS goes up. I’ve had higher DPS as SV than MM. As a side note though, a gorilladin with an MM specced hunter is probably going to out AOE DSP any other hunter (improved barrage).
Good luck.
As Rua says, “Volley + Gorilladin = fun”.
I went and got Mighty Joe, and did a few things myself. Yesterday it was the Scholomance, with Joe acting as the tank for a group of squishies and myself. Later that night it was Ony and Molten Core (brought the cat for those). Before that, it was getting exalted with Kurenai for that achievement with Joe and his thunderstomp.
I’m still keeping Bellygrub for single target tanking and the cat for DPS, but yowza gorillas are good.
BRK….
I had 5k dps on Hyjal trash with volley and my devilsaur. Was nice to see a hunter at the top of dps charts in an aoe fight.
I was invited to a pug AQ40 the other night. I mostly wanted a chance to ride my yellow quiraji battle-tank again and watch the fail. Got to feign and watch Skeram roll a a group of 25 t6 geared people.
I think it’s kinda funny when people go into AQ-40 and assume just because they’re geared 70’s, that everything will be cake and ice cream and they can brute force things without any strategy ;p
I did all this content at 60, so I remember just how rediculous the fights were. GL on twin emps, BRK! The trash on the way to O’uro is waaaay worse than any of the bosses before them >.>’…
