Hey iPhone Users!

BRK » 20 October 2008 » In Blog » 35 Comments

We just installed iWPhone, a Wordpress plugin that automatically reformats our blog for iPhone users. Only iPhone and iTouch readers should see a difference.

So you guys, is this better?

That’s mighty considerate of you. Seems to work fine here on my touch. Is there an easy way to customize the header to get some BRK into it?

No, it’s a “take it as it comes” thing. We can uninstall the plugin and you’ll get BRK just like you do on your computer, or leave this plugin installed, and you get pure text goodness. You all’s call.

    Cheers mate!

So there’s no way to view the sidebar content either? If this plugin is not customizable, then I’d say it still needs some more work. When I’m using my Touch I usually read your site through google reader, which is iPhone/Touch compatible already.

Works well enough for me. I usually read BRK in Google Reader, so it doesn’t make much difference to me.

Is there any option to add a link to the “real” post (with the normal formatting), so that if we wanted to see the full formatting, we could? I dislike it when sites insist that you use the mobile version of a page, which sometimes makes the page difficult or impossible to use.

I really like the change, your page opens 100x faster, and doesn’t try to load all the adds and pictures an all that.

A very welcome change considering I read every day when I’m bored on my iPhone.

    Please keep it!

It’s not bad. It just looks like every other RSS feeder. It’s not black and white ugly though, it just lost a lot of it’s flare (pizzaz? theme? tone? styling?).

If you can, I would jump into the code, or have someone else do it, and fix up a new CSS file that sets some familiar colors or sticks your banner back on the top instead of that blue bar.

All in all, yes it loads faster for me too. Though having a cookie store the persons preference on, for lack of a better word, real style or RSS feed style for your site.

ummm… did you do something wonky to the formus, cut they look ALOT different.

if you changed the look, the older look was much cleaner and easier to read than this black, blue and purple. Granted i like those colors, but everything feels all squished.

    (from iTouch)

Personally, I prefer the non iPhone/iTouch formatted page, with the sidebars and all, I have never had a taste for simplified rss style looks. Allthough I can see the benefit for iPhone users who are not currently using wifi, us iTouch users HAVE to be connected to wifi to use the interwebz, so we can easily load the full page.

Hmmm, well as much as i appreciate the thought. I like the full version of the site. A couple of sites (wowinsider being one of them) I visit both in the iPhone version and normal version depending on the article and wether i’m using 3G or wifi.

Option for iPhone version is good! being forced to… not so good.

I like it! Posting from iPhone right now. How bout a BigRedKitty icon for the home screen icon?

  13. Glacier-Uldum on October 20th, 2008 11:52 pm

sounds like BRK, lacks the visual BRK style

    we need a poll….

  15. Nova on October 21st, 2008 12:22 am

As much as I like just the blog posts I often come to the site for the links and features on the sidebar. If we can’t get access to those features as well I’d rather have the old version.

Looks good. Very neat and loads quite fast :)
Pretty good substitute for when I’m out and about.

Works brilliantly, i love it, much faster than trying to load the original page. Thanks :)

  18. softi on October 21st, 2008 4:11 am

Pooh, looks different that’s for sure! Much faster to load, but it doesn’t have any BRK-ness in there now :(

  19. Jaikara on October 21st, 2008 4:28 am

Looks good on my iPhone BRK, nice work. While I’m here, just wanna say thanks for the fantastic blog and super helpful guides and info you provide. You make being a Hunter a whole lot more fun.

  20. Traz on October 21st, 2008 5:32 am

Just checked it out on my iPhone – considerably faster.

    Well done again BRK :)

  21. sap on October 21st, 2008 5:53 am

    BRK you legend. Brilliant work

  22. Galoheart on October 21st, 2008 7:13 am

Its much faster and easier to read from my IPhone as the page loads much faster. So far looks good.

  23. DunsfordMage on October 21st, 2008 7:34 am

Looks good from here (iPhone) – it’s quick and it’s got all the text from the main page which is enough to keep me busy in my my lunch break.

  24. Darrix on October 21st, 2008 9:45 am

Just had a iPhone check here.. and i have to say.. I hate it :(

I respect ppl that are surfing without wifi might like it bether.

But if its possible atleast put a button switch on the top of the page so we can choice what page we want the iphone to display.

But anyways, keep up the good work.

  25. delta5 on October 21st, 2008 10:49 am

Def easier to read now, but not quite as pretty as viewing on a big-boy computer and seeing the proper brk colors…

I like it. I like that I can watch the videos right on the phone. I guess I could have done that before, too, but whatever, nice and simple works for me.

I read your blog via Google Reader so it has always looked great.

other than your entertaining blogs I come here for the the links and you can’t see them anymore it would be cool if you have like the myspace set up where it ask you to choose between between the two formats.Thank You

  31. John642 on October 21st, 2008 10:36 pm

Please give us a way to use either one!

  32. Rildar on October 22nd, 2008 12:47 am

Looks good on the screen. The lack of an Option to enable normal mode is a niggle, but I’ll struggle on.

    Posted from my iPod Touch.

  33. Fin on October 22nd, 2008 8:31 am

BRK if you’d just go ahead and buy an iPhone 3g you could find out for yourself how it looks!

  34. Karrok on October 22nd, 2008 3:24 pm

Hey, me likey. When I’m using my iPhone, I want succinct and direct, not full on Web 1 or 2.0. For that, a full power computer gets used. Do I miss the complete content? Maybe some bits, but the main features are there and in true Mac fashion I rate it Spiffy!

  35. Actaeon on October 24th, 2008 7:39 pm

It works great! Faster and good looking.

    Happy Hunting!!
