How Being an Idiot Can Sometimes, But Not Always, Be a Bad Thing

BRK » 20 October 2008 » In Blog » 39 Comments

We get a lot of mileage out of being a loud-mouthed, sarcastic, incoherent hipster-doofus. We write, we have fun, we give some opinions and facts, and then we go off the deep-end, writing just for entertainment. And usually it works out really well.

One of the most prolific bloggers in this genre is John P., the Big Bear Butt. He and we both write for WoW Insider. We trade jokes and barbs frequently. We’ve had the Foshizzle Lawsuit, and that was a blast. The entire druid community rallied against the BRK Worldwide Amalgamated empire, and we loved it.

Basically, we thought we had made our admiration of him quite plain and obvious.

So today we read his blogpost about his hunter. The BRK-brain decided to write a nonsensical diatribe about bloggers stepping out of their traditional roles, and the raspberry-post was the result. Obviously, something went wrong between our brain and our hands, for our post did quite the opposite of “entertain”.

We want to apology to B^4 for everything. We are sorry if we overstepped the bounds of proper blogging deportment. We are sorry if he inferred a personal attack on him or his writing. Frankly, he is one of the best things about WoW-blogging, and easily one of the people we most look forward to reading every day.

We most certainly do aspire to completely improper, and provide sometimes libelous personal commentary. But we do not aspire to be mean.

John, I’m very sorry.

No! Do not give those drood folk any more ground! We can chat when they become tamable haha.

  2. Beaker on October 20th, 2008 5:35 pm

I read your post as it was intended BRK a light hearted jibe between 2 bloggers who have a history of a funny well written back and forth on their respective blogs, with no vindictiveness intended.

But way to man up and apologise to 4B :)

  3. Jet on October 20th, 2008 5:37 pm

I’d say you’re track record of nice guy-ness will help clear this up faster than cower turns itself back on in my pet’s spellbook. Also, should I patent the term “Wrath of the Nerf King”? lol have fun all.

  4. Trakand on October 20th, 2008 5:39 pm

I thought I respected you before. I did.

But I respect you more now.

    Well played sir.

  5. Chesko on October 20th, 2008 5:52 pm

    Wow, he’s an idiot.

  6. BRK on October 20th, 2008 6:03 pm

    Wow, he’s an idiot.

Respectfully, Chesko, he isn’t. B^4 is prolific, covering a multitudes of topics in a single day. As such, he has frequently been chided about picking a blog-topic and sticking to it. It is a reasonably justified “sore spot” with him, which we intentionally poked, because we do that sort of thing.

  7. Big Bear Butt on October 20th, 2008 6:19 pm

And you, sir, allowed me to use your post, spoken in fun, to address a growing number of flat-out asshats who have increasingly begun to annoy me when I stray from Feral Drood posts on my blog.

What these folks don’t realize, is you and I were joking back and forth via email half this morning. So I knew you were having fun… pretty clearly.

Had to comment on the movie making though. :)

If you notice, 90% of the post wasn’t directly against BRK, but rather against the elitist people who try and control what I say, and how I say it, and act as though what they think of what I say when they tell me how much they disapprove of me or how childish I am, matters to me in the slightest.

Just read the comments that are on that post right now. Half of the folks, that love you and visit me sometimes as well, got it.

Some of ‘em took it serious, and think maybe we were serious. But they got where I was coming from, about having the freedom to write what I want, just as BRK does, without care or concern for what some asshat has to say in opposition or condemnation.

I note that there are a lot of folks taht clearly don’t get that they are the very ones I’m talking about, as they tell me in the comments how lame I am.

    As one said…

I’m new to the whole blogging culture around here, and I’ve only just started reading BRK and only 3 days ago got to reading BBB.
It’s good to see you guys weren’t serious! Whoa freaked. =P
But hey, whats a noob to do?
You guys keep writing. You do an amazing job between BRK’s videos and BBB’s professions post, all the way to a promised Bacon post (there better be one… >=D)

I read both BRK’s Donut poast, and B^4’s poast about BRK’s poast, and could tell immediately that B^4 was just using BRK’s poast as a catapult to address a topic that he’s wanted to for a while, and that it wasn’t really an attack.

I’m glad everything is cleared up now though.

  14. Siobhann on October 20th, 2008 7:58 pm

I can’t believe ANYONE took that stuff seriously. *WHOOSH* is right.

So, either of you two have any opinions on the state of Holy Paladins and their Mana deficiency in the 1800-1810 Arena Brackets, more specifically against RMP, and WRD combos?

    Haha.. :)

I got it all in fun. I mean, taking BRK seriously? Seriously! Have you READ his posts before?

Having been the target of many a bear sitting on my poor hunter’s when I died (/shakes fist @ Alm) this is even more funny. And now that my druid is 70 as well – I can return the favor!

I thought the whole thing was hilarious! Kudos to B^4 as well. You guys are both a class act. We’re not sure what class yet, but definitely classy… :P

  23. Viktel on October 21st, 2008 12:52 am

I took it totally tongue-in-cheek, and as a WoW player that has both a 70 hunter and a 70 feral drood I was kinda looking forward to the rivalry heating back up.

    /casts hotbutterypopcorn

Y’all crack me up, keep me edjumacated, and I look forward to both blogs everyday.

    Keep up the good work.

This is why the WoW community is so great. Guys like BRK and 4B take what is after all, a game, and make it so much more.

  25. PyroDC on October 21st, 2008 5:33 am

I love you both, the only reason I dont read b^4 as much as I do BRK is two fold:
    1. B^4 is blocked at work
    2. My drood is a baby lvl 30

Hurray for asshats and the interwebs

fwiw, I believe drama (especially blog drama) is better played through in email or /whisper.

  31. Dan on October 21st, 2008 10:02 am

The whole thing is a startling display of how internet fame isn’t worth the hassle. If the whole thing was a private conversation between the two of you there wouldn’t of been a problem, it’s when others do a hop, skip and a jump onto the bandwagon internet violence ensues.

Too many people have the means to air their opinion these days and too few have an opinion worth listening to.

  32. Wintermane on October 21st, 2008 1:18 pm

    Nice try John.

We knew you were pissed for real, you know you overreacted, BRK has shown what a classy guy he is by offering a heartfelt apology, and you failed to respond in kind by pretending it was all in jest.

    Too bad.

  33. Nyctreinar on October 21st, 2008 2:39 pm

How thick would one have to be to think BRK was seriously dissing B^4? I mean, I’ve only known about BRK’s blog and ‘cast for a month or so, and even I know he’s not mean-spirited.

Who makes all those asshats people are wearing? We need to shut them down! Maybe they can go back to making buggy whips.

  34. Portly on October 21st, 2008 3:35 pm

Once again BRK, you shine though as the Hero Hunter that you are…

  35. Altoholicmom on October 21st, 2008 9:34 pm

You’d think you two were married or something. It’s almost cute…. almost. I don’t care what either of you write about so long as you keep writing so I can keep putting off doing my projects for these incredibly expensive college courses.

And perhaps…. just perhaps, BRK should widen his horizons a little bit and roll a warlock or something. Who knows, you just might /love it.

  36. Jan on October 22nd, 2008 2:50 am

Imo BRK isn’t afraid to tell something that might be inconvenient or a bit hard.
But always in a respectful way imo. Sometimes you need to be a bit provocative to get a discussion going perhaps ? Makes you see things in a different manner and get you out of singleminded thinking or have a good laugh alltogether when it backfires.
Still, I think that Blogs should represent the persons feelings and you should be allowed to state what you think is wrong in the (warcraft) world.
It’s hard enough to be honest or provocative in a good way on official wow forums without being trolled or flamed or reprimanded by a moderator or even banned when all you said is taken too serious or taken into the wrong direction and the discussion ends up in apologizing or explaining why you don’t mean it that way, etc, etc..

  37. Shujima on October 22nd, 2008 2:04 pm

You guys should just touch dinks and be done with it.

Back to BRK movies and stories about Neil Armstrong!
