Raspberry-Filled, Of Course

TJ » 20 October 2008 » In Blog, Classes » 38 Comments

There are a lot of hunter-bloggers on the Internet. We love ‘em! Seriously we do. There’s no competition, just different niches and writing styles. We don’t even mind the “Big Red” bloggers. It’s a big WoW-playground, after all.

But there’s a new hunter-blogger who’s just about stuck his finger in our jelly-filled donut. And a reckoning is coming.

Yes, we’re talking about “Big Red” Bear Butt Blogger.

Does John P. even bother playing his druid anymore? Today he’s talking about the Cower bug.

He’s a druid TANK! Talking about hunter-pet Cower issues?

It’s insanity!

He has a Devilsaur! How do we know? He blogged about it!

He is a DRUID! Would someone please remind him to leave the huntering to the hunters? What, we have to start writing our adventures as a druid?

Here! We’ll do it!

BRK rolled a Night Elf druid. Leveled it to 18 or so, kept trying to use our Pet Attack macro before hitting… what the h3ll spell is it? No idea. Toon deleted.

There! All our druid-blogging is complete. You want a rogue-blog?

BRK rolled a Forsaken rogue. Leveled it to 6. Got sick of counting combo-points and deleted it.

Mage blog?

BRK rolled a Gnome mage. Leveled it to 24. Ended up broke and broken in Duskwood. Deleted it.

Warrior blog?

BRK rolled a Gnome warrior. Leveled it to 17. Went Fury! Melee stinks. Shelved.

Paladin blog!

BRK rolled a Dwarf paladin. Leveled it to 20. No stun, no way to keep mobs from running away. Shelved.

Shadow Priest blog!

BRK rolled a Dwarf shadow-priest. It was actually a lot of fun. Except when anything, including critters, would get in melee-range and beat her into a bloody pulp. Shelved.

There. Can we have the druid-bloggers blog about druids now?

And yes, Heart of the Phoenix is bugged. Has been for a long time. Notice how there’s been no “BigRedKitty WotLK Beta Hunter-Guide Movie” about HotP? There’s a reason for that.

/cast Heart of the Phoenix

That’s the interim solution. But don’t fret; when HotP is working properly, we’ll movie-it.

‘Cause *we’re* a hunter-blog, d@mnit.

Yeh, what should be a great 1 point talent, it is right now a waste. I’m still waiting for my devilsaur to auto-rezz on Rage winter…, and all there’s plenty of pet-action-bar related bugs… so.. blizz do something!
We need our action bars working!
(btw, my devilsaur managed to pull out 500 dps on hyjal waves and almost 600 on kaz… incredible! can’t w8 for 3.1 to come and give exotic pets a 10% damage increase…).

And as long as it’s bugged, what kind of macro should work properly with rabid?

Anyone else think BRK has a little bit extra crazy today?

    /salutes a fellow hunter.

  4. Dammerung on October 20th, 2008 12:05 pm

    ROFL.

See BRK this is what you get for wanting druid pets… you think you’ve tamed them and BLAM the very next moment you have a bear using a gun and growling because catform is borked and won’t stop using prowl or some such.

  5. Mcmuscles on October 20th, 2008 12:25 pm

    “Paladin blog!

BRK rolled a Dwarf paladin. Leveled it to 20. No stun, no way to keep mobs from running away. Shelved.”

    Solution 1:
Hammer of Justice, level 8, same CD, cheaper mana cost than Intimidation

    Solution 2:
Judge seal of Justice (old school) lvl 20
Judgement of Justice (current) lvl 28

Don’t mislead your readers, paladins rock the house. =P

  6. WB on October 20th, 2008 12:28 pm

Methinks BRK has had too much Raspberry flavoring in his…

    well…

In his everything! Good lord, this Raspberry thing is verging on …
    verging on…
I don’t know. Addictive? Disturbing? Mindnumbing? Appauling? I mean, raspberry filled donuts, ok maybe, but when you couple that with raspberry coffee? /shiver.

As for the pet bars and abilities: Yeah, completely FUBAR. As best I can tell, only one ability will ever activate unless you cast it yourself. Heart of Phoenix or lick wounds? Smack and thunderstomp(?) on my gorilla? Nope, you can’t have both active. Have to turn off smack to get the aoe talent to work. I’ve even gone so far as to macro Smack with steady shot/kill command.

Guess I can’t complain to Blizz too much, given that they’ve greatly improved pet abilities. But then again, if the abilities don’t work?

Actaully, has anyone played with the abilities and can recommend something effective?

  7. Rua on October 20th, 2008 12:35 pm

Feral Druids do have the spell Cower, no?
John P. does do his blog from the Feral perspective, no?

    >_>

    As to the actual bug:
At the Log In screen, Click the Options button
    Click Reset UI Settings
    Click OK and Close

This will reset your UI (completely) but also fixes Cower so that it no longer toggles on auto-casts.
I haven’t tried HotP yet, but I’m willing to bet it solves that too.

  8. Rua on October 20th, 2008 12:44 pm

“Smack and thunderstomp(?) on my gorilla?”

You don’t need to turn one or the other off.
Thunderstomp fires off no problem with 2+ mobs.
Smack fires off with 1 mob.
With Focus and cooldowns I never really see them fire off in tandem.
But you don’t need to turn them off auto-cast.

  13. Canth on October 20th, 2008 1:57 pm

Hey BRK, can you make a post about pet (de)buffs that are/not stacking?

I’ve checked the Blizzard post that was initially put up (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=9336795321&sid=1), and only saw two pet skills that do not stack (worm acid spit & wasp sting). Does that mean the core hound lava breath and wolf furious howl do stack with other player-provided (de)buffs?

Don’t make me ask the B^3 to do the research on this as I think he may do a good job of this while not tanking ZA ;)

  14. logost on October 20th, 2008 2:19 pm

How about a post about current Hunter/pet bugs?

That actually could be really informative.

  15. kunukia on October 20th, 2008 2:52 pm

    Raspberry + donut=good

    Raspberry + coffee=bad, really bad

It is annoying to have to turn off prowl and cower every time I take a boat or fly or log or anything…

  16. TrialsOfTuring on October 20th, 2008 3:26 pm

I agree with kunukia.. maybe we just share the same problem.

There is a pet bug that impacts cower (no I didn’t RTF Big Butt). At least, I think its a bug. Why do all your pet skills enable autocast nearly everytime you load a zone screen? Is this just my setup? If I go from Outlands to Azeroth or Eastern Kingdoms to Kalimdor, they reset. How do I know this? With a cat its very obvious (and irritating) when your prowl goes autocast.

It seems if you stick the ability on the bar and disable autocast, it won’t reset autocast, but the pet bar doesn’t have room for 5 new abilities on top of the old ones…. AND you cannot remove stance or the stay/follow/attack buttons.

if I had my choice, prowl wouldn’t even be there. Of course.. that’s not a choice anymore.

  17. Jacemora on October 20th, 2008 3:47 pm

    I <3 my horde hunter!

Had I made her Alliance I quite possibly would have switched mains.

  18. Rua on October 20th, 2008 3:55 pm

Resetting your UI through the Options button at the login screen works on Cower and Prowl bugs, guys.

    Just sayin’
    >_>

  22. kowpat on October 20th, 2008 4:57 pm

Is this for real? Or did TJ pull a fast one on BBB? I happen to have a Druid and Hunter and read both Blogs religiously.

Here’s to hoping this is a well intentioned joke. Can’t have my favorite druid and favorite hunter feuding on the innerwebs.

  23. Siobhann on October 20th, 2008 6:32 pm

Hijinx and hilarity BRK! Thanks for the druid blog, and keep the campaigning for Druid pets!

    My druid blog would read:

Rolled a Night Elf Druid. Leveled him to 14. There he sat for 2 years until I heard BRK’s Druid public service announcement at the beginning of episode 5 (or 4?). Got so ashamed I immediately logged on, deleted the Druid, and turned the bugger into a Hunter instead! Nothing like running around Shadow Glen jump shot-ing Nightstalker runts while all those noobs marvel at my strange fighting style.

    Keep’em coming!

I *think* I’ve seen HotP work once on my Core Hound since the 3.0.2 patch.

Coming late to the party so I know this post was made in jest, but I have to say every time I’ve tried rolling a different class than a hunter it has ended badly. Even finding time for a second hunter is difficult.

I’ll stick to what I somewhat know and continue to beg rogues to unlock things for me.
