about time
lol jk
Ima crying about my boars. One of my 70 hunters has the lovely mottled boar, her first pet, the prettiest boar skin in game, so bloody sad. I will NEVER give Lucy up, you hear me! Never!
Nice podcast…
Truefax, I started out with a paladin, but always wanted a hunter. Levelled my Mage and druid, then my hunter. My hunter is my most enjoyable character by far and is my main now. My other 3 70’s may have better gear but Aelphea is where I go to more often than not.
BRK, Its pretty much the same situation on our European server at the moment.
I love the green core hound, however I got the rare chimera today and I love it.
http://relativity-media.com/wow/rare.jpg
This is a picture above Iron Forge with me and my new lovely pet. Yes its ugly, but so are boars.
I did enjoy my moth and wasp, but can’t see me ever using it, devilsaur is awesome, gorilla is mega fun…..
I too have a boar that is no longer being used. I could really use the stable slot, but I don’t have it in me to get rid of him. He’s been with me for so long…
And woo silithids!
You know, I think you just have a problem with Paladins. I mean I have a BM Hunter and a RET Paladin and love them both.
And the thing is the nerf was PvP burst. That was the intent… I love your podcast, but please, this just mean man. Not cool. Besides, you can still kite the heck out of Paladins. They don’t have an effective gap closer.
… Now, unless you are saying this in jest, I can understand, but it’s still not cool to say when we have been the red-headed stepchild to DPS.
Like kunukia, I’m keeping my Elder Mottled Boar. He’s even tanked SL for us since the patch. But is it just me, or does Gore do basically the same damage as a focus dump?
One of my first 2v2 fights post-patch was as Hunter/Druid against double BM Hunter with double Birds of Prey, so a total of 12 seconds of disarm, but it wasn’t too hard to play around this (having been Dismantled a lot by rogues in practice duels).
Puppy Dog of Doom looks totally awesome. Other Core Hounds look like demon pets.
And Horde kill gnomes first (when we can find them) because… they’re annoying. STOMP ON THEM!
Personally I use a Spider for arena now, combined with Bestial Wrath it lets you unleash a tonne of damage, and occasionally gib warriors.
I haven’t tested closely, but it appears that Steady Shot procs Aspect of the Viper regen, so using Steady Shot during regen phase can increase overall regen (99 mana cost for ~400 regen in my gear)
And as per alts, the #1 2-character combo seems to be Hunter/Druid. It’s all about the animals…
Found the Spirit Beast yet?
We dont go for Dranei.
Everybody is crazy about stomping gnomes into the dirt.
All horde players are bullies. Or bullied?
LOL! best intro yet!
Agreed – gnomes must die above all else.
Gotta say, the silithid rocks – love snarin those little gnome rogues xP
(and the only achievement I’m actively pursuing is the critter loving one… because it’s the only one I feel MUST be completed by all)
And and… as a prot pally from 1-70 (don’t ask) I am deeply enjoying BM huntering.
I love my moth. <3
I traded in my Ravager for a blue one from Netherstorm the day I got the patch installed, although I’ll be trading it in for the lovely white one once wrath hits.
But you’re right BRK, nobody seems to understand the power of the moth. It’s quite annoying getting whispers from people that just want to ask me “omg why do you have a moth they’re so useless”.
MOTH’S FOREVER
You wrote:Bats Sonic Blast. What makes this two-second stun better than everything other pets’ is the uber-short cooldown. If you’re mana-draining hunter in a 5v5 team and your primary target is the paladin, it’ll be hard to choose a better pet than a Bat to interupt that paladin’s heals.
None of that holds true any longer. The CD on Sonic Blast is one minute. You haven’t tested bats in live have you?One stun once a minute isn’t of any significant use in PvP.Not when there are other pets that are far better suited for PvP with abilities on a much shorter CD.
Bats are now next to worthless. The only major threat generation they have is their class ability,so PvE isn’t a lot of fun with one. They barely hold aggro with what they have and only if you hold back a lot on the dps.You get adds and Sonic Blast is on CD you are going to get mobs in your face PERIOD.
Bats were our AoE pets, and with BM they could hold onto anything unless you pulled a stupid. Now they are maybe two target pets if there is next to no chance of adds. And that is why you don’t see hardly any of them. They were nerfed into the ground after you posted your list.Hope you’re happy BRK.
Umm, why exactly do dragonhawks ’suck’?
I tamed one at 68, and I’m totally loving how hes burning stuff, scary and cute at the same time.
And, (as an added bonus) very-very rare sight as hunter pets, I get compliments left and right about him…
I was into cats right up till now, but i didn’t see any decrease in dps when I switched and I’m looking at basically the same numbers in terms of dps and health.
… in terms of ARMOR and health.
GLIFZ!! WE WANTZ THOSE GLIFZ!!!
As for the pally above…yes we could kite a pally all day long…but it was one of those efforts in futility…we beat you down, you heal up before we could finish you, you hit us a few times, we get away, the cycle continues…at least that’s been my experience, but I’m not very well geared…I could fight a pally all day long, and neither of us would win until one of us ran into a mob or someone came and helped one of us out.
Nice post, but just for that intro, on behalf of the paladin community, I hope Rhinos get nerfed to the size of kittens D:
I apsolutly hate the Devilsar and core hound because of theris stomp, screen shake and size. No raiding guild tank will ever be patient enaugh to let you use a Devilsaur in a raid. I dont care if it will be the best dps by 50% no1 will use em for raids because they make people nerves because of their size, so you cant see anything. Maybe you shuld talk abaut that.
BRK, Aspect of the Dragonhawk is trainable from Hunter Trainers and Aspect Mastery just states that Aspect of the Dragonhawk will benefit from Hawk AP bonus and Monkey damage reduction combined. You don’t have to spend points in that BM talent to get the Dragonhawk Aspect.
Really nice podcast! Btw, on Brutallus a Marksmanship Hunter with Scorpid and using the Poison stacking issue and all the really nice raid wide buffs, kings, shaman totems, etc etc, managed to outdps a similarly geared BM hunter that was usually top dps there: 3.1k dps for the MM hunter vs 3.0k dps for the BM hunter with cat. Survival dps however sucks in raid setting, that is true.
I would love to see the armory pages for the two hunters…still, that seems pretty close (3.1 vs 3.0) and could be a matter of a missed CD or anything…still, nice to see other specs can keep up, equal, and even surpass what used to be BM dominated…but I think I still like my BM tree better. MM seems like too much micro and macro managing, watching timers, and getting timing just right…
Very turned off by your celebration of the nerfing of Ret Paladins, jest or not. Gleaning happiness from the unhappiness of others is pathetic, especially unhappiness that was spawned because of pathetic PVP whiners.
My main was a Mage until I rolled a hunter as an “alt’. Hunter is now my main now and forever.
He’s calling you out!
http://stabilizedeffortscope.blogspot.com/2008/10/yawn-brk-aint-paying-attention-i-guess.html
Feral druid main, with a warlock and mage main alts. I do have a 70 hunter as well. I rolled him for the same reason I rolled the others — to learn the mechanics and abilites of the class to better my understanding of them in order to tank for them. I’m not a huntard, but it’s by far the class I’m weakest with. They are fun abd a strong class and much loved for the pet (as you so correctly noted BRK).
I’d be remiss if I didn’t add this. Even as a MM hunter I LOVE my Gorilladin, Stomper. Talbuks in Nagrand are going to be an endanged species at the rate we’re stomping them down. Thank you so much for introducing and schooling us on such a great pet and hunting strategy BRK. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Is like hunters really only have 2 specs marks or beastmaster, surv is a joke all around. But as far as snakes go, I think I am the only hunter with one since I went marks and thats where the power is because you get the same benefit of a corehound and its similar to raptors and devilsaurs, silithids and spiders, and wasps and worms. The non exotics are use more often for the same reasons by marks and the other spec ( survial was it? it was nerfed so far into the ground I cant recognize it anymore). Though the effect isnt as drastic its still there, I tell u one thing a snake in arena is no joke when put on that caster/healer to slow down their effectiveness, offering me free mana, and providing extra burst when that enemy is low, not to mention chasing down druids and shamans who try to run lol. I urge people to try out the alternates to exotics because they provide a very useful change of pace and in some situations are better because they are low profile. People will see that devilsaur as more of a threat than a raptor but their dps is close.
BRK never did the Rhok quest? Say it ain’t so! /mockfaint
Do a movie of it. I’d love to see a movie of that. Never ever let go of your Rhok. I’ve still got my Rhok in my bags still two years later. I would totally support an achievement for that.
((Hunter main, priest and mage(s) main alts, btw))
Hey BRK,
Crocolisks aren’t getting any love but personally I love mine. He munches trogg face in Loch Modan like there’s no tomorrow. I think Bad Attitude > Swipe because it doesn’t aggro neutral mobs. Awesome podcast!
P.S. My pets name is “NerfHissing”
HAHAHA I’m 30 seconds into the podcast and I’m already laughing out loud!!
Nerfed into the ground. Serves those cockroaches right!
Dude, I’m so rocking the Wind Serpent. Dedicated to it.
My buddy Kateff is rocking the tallstrider too. Yay dust cloud and lightning breath.
–Davlin
Aspect of the Dragonhawk, woot. Brk is awesome
As Ezra’s guildmate, I can’t express how moved I was by your tribute to him at the end.
He was a fan of yours, you know. He was always playing with the hunter builds (his main was a hunter) and always adjusting his playstyle according to the latest from your blog.
Thanks.
People have Hunter Alts because of “Teh awsome Farm skillz” or the actually that lack of skill it takes to farm on a hunter.
Never shall I give up on Rufus, that piggy has been with me since I hit 60 waaaa back and he has been loyal to a fault. I know there are better tenacity pets out there and I know he has been nerfed beyond belief but still, that squeel of his is the sound of victory. That and his little rootin around lookin for tubers, priceless.
Storin & (with his snout held high) Rufus
Steel Reign
Khaz Modan
I refuse to do the corhound and dinos..too loud, too big..no fun in 5-mans is no one can see half the time..and everyone has done those..
I have a 70 Surf Glider from Tanris (named him Sting….lol) and he can tank..enjoying that much..
I have a 66 Worm form Marudon…looking for the gold one from Silithus or Dustwallow..gonna use him for raids when there is no armor reduction avail.
I am gonna get a moth for the dps and self healing for 5-mans and maybe raids, (pets are still considered expendible so the self healing is a good thing..)
Did I mention that I am becoming very attached to my turtle…he just keeps on tanking..great.
Need moar stable slots!!
Cat
Gorilla
Worm
Moth
Bird of prey
But also want:
Core Hound
Hyena
Rhino
Turtle
Yes, I’m asking for WAY more than necessary, but if I ask for 4 more and get one or two I’d be THRILLED!
@Gasper
I can’t find the link but Ghostcrawler has already said that they’re removing the screen shake and stop from the tamed core hounds.
Currently I’ve got a gorilladin, a cat, a silithid and an orange core hound. I still want a devilsaur and a rhino, but I won’t have enough stable slots, might ditch the silithid.
Black Gate?
* Begin Comic Book Nerd Voice* Excuse me sir, but it’s the DARK PORTAL!
No! Stop telling people to use Rapid Fire during AoTV!
Harrumph.
Black Gate…… hmmmm maybe BRK just got done watching a LOTR movie. I can see it now …BRK and the fellowship assault mordor. Who knows, maybe Gimli is a distant relative.
man i’m loving my Devilsaur, sure, Nidhogg is all big and in the way but whatever, for soloing at least he is my favorite, my poor raptor has gone on the way side, but he might be my BG pet since he will do nice burst outright in the fray. on the other hand though I can’t for a jormungar worm for tanking and a silithid for arena : 3
No! Stop telling people to use Rapid Fire during AoTV!
Why? In a raid setting, that’s the best use of it, given that it only affects Auto-Shot.
@Kheno — aww, i hope BRK sees your post.
i’ve been torn up about ezra ever since reading about him last week. i even mounted up and rode all the way to mulgore to visit the tauren questgiver he did the voice for (er, wheathoof? is that right? sorry, i’m alliance…) and did a /kneel in memory of him. i’m glad he’s living on in the game through his voice and the weapon he helped create. i hope blizzard puts up a statue of his character somewhere or does something else appropriate. i’m glad to hear he liked BRK, too. that’s awesome.
<3 all the Ret pallies in raid. I haven’t used AotV in raid once 3.0 hit. The only thing I miss is Kings, otherwise, their nerf saddens this BT/SW raider.
The only thing that BM hunters beat this MM hunter on is trash damage.
I too was moved by your tribute to Ezra, BRK. A young cow of mine did the quest he created this morning, then saluted and knelt. Sad times…
om ami dewa hri
aye sad times for the boar fans, but i WILL replace my armored RFK boar with a wotlk worm.
I tamed good ol’ Iron Jaws after 3.0 and is now my favorite single target pet.
I am so happy about the revival my gorilla has now, kept my stranglehorn gorilla in the stable forever, now we are together again, me and wankertanker
Spend a week in netherstorm looking after Nuramoc, but no luck, tamed a blue one from winterspring instead, not likely to keep it though, still got the distance bug.
Tamed Uvuros on day one after 3.0 rarely use it to be honest. my favorites is wolf and gorilladin…. by far …
Tried the devilsaurs in the beta, hasn’t touched it since, is sooo put off by the way it moves, looks like an oversize duck, praying it will not top the DPS charts in wotlk, so I have to bring it for raids.
My likely wotlk pets atm will be.
gorilladin.
wolf.
moth.
worm.
?(exotic).
BRK mate thx for the BEST hunter podcast by far, and one of the best wow around.
As my main is a tauren druid that bounces between resto and balance, I’ve suddenly had my ankles being gnawed off by gnome rogues wayyyy too many times for me to irrationally target anyone else. They don’t even come up to you knees yet have more health than you? MAKE IT DIE!!! It’s just embarassing being killed by one, I tell you.
Test of spam filter
OK … so I managed to post a test … but then could not edit it to a real post
Anyway a couple of comments:
1) mana regen: I dual wield daggers (Malchazeen and Bad Mojo) with Superior Mana Oil on both … +28 mp5 is not to be sneezed at and I seldom have to shift to AotV
2) Its a blast having more stable slots and pet talents: I can easily replicate BRK’s Gorilladin exploits and my cat still rocks with pure dps/damage. Thanks Bliz!
Thanks for the mention, BRK! I’m someone!!!!
You know…
Paladin’s have… HAD… Something to relate to…
Kicking extreme *bleep* repetitively.
I just have to say THANK YOU! I would have never tried the worm … well at least at this point. But I did because of the lack of love you mentioned. The worm is amazing. Bliz … we need more stable slots as of yesterday. Now the moth!
RE: Your comments on Aspect on the Viper
I’ve done some testing on AotV. I have ~5.5k mana
I went to a training dummy, emptied my mana with mend pet, then timed how long it took to fill up mana.
2.6 speed weapon, autoshot: 31 sec
2.6 speed weapon, auto + steady: 27 sec
3.1 speed weapon, autoshot: 24 sec
3.1 speed weapon, auto + steady: 18 sec
Because steady costs so little, it regens faster if you fire it during AotV. It may also pay to carry around a slow weapon (I used Ornate Khorium – cheap now with all mat prices falling) and use a macro to switch it in when you turn on AotV… it seems the slower your weapon, the faster you can regen mana.
Hope this helps
Love the podcasts
Being a Wasp lover I have to say that those who don’t like the wasp aren’t seeing the advantage to the general purpose pet.
Yes, the wasp does not do as much dps as other pets. No it isn’t a tank. The wasp is best for those of us who flip from one thing to another rapidly. It works amazingly.
The armor reduction is good for you, it’s good for your friends, and it really, really, really irritates rogues. Especially combined with the no stealthing. Suddenly I went from hating rogues and cat druids to looking forward to their looks of anguish as they die.
The armor reduction helps others. My guildies love my wasp. And I love being summoned right from my battle ground without having to go swap over to a different pet.
Haha! Down to the grown baby! Face!
