Pow! Right in the Kisser!

BRK » 28 October 2008 » In Screenshot » 49 Comments

We ran amok in the Scourge camps, collecting 107 runes in about two hours of farming. Although we just can’t seem to get the mail armor to drop from the mini-bosses, we at least have the gloves and the shoulders, and the banner

But Gorilladin seems extremely distressed with our personal pocket paladin. What do you think he’s saying to us, as he balls up his fist and prepares to punch something…

And if that isn’t the perfect pose for a Gorilladin t-shirt, we don’t know what is.

i farmed scourge for a day got pants, gloves, sholders, tabard and the book trinket

  3. Justin on October 29th, 2008 12:26 am

I’ve gotten everything but the mail pants. And of course the mail pants are the only item that would actually be an upgrade! I’m just not having any luck tagging a rare. They have been few and fair between. The Shadows are easy to summon and kill… I’ve seen the mail chest a half dozen times. The pants only come from the RARE spawns though!

  4. Hellyardsown on October 29th, 2008 12:35 am

I farmed runes last night as well, have a nice stack of the sharpening stones, all the trinkets, tabard, and full set… last night it was just me and 2 others in my group getting 3 shards in a row all to ourselves including all the shadows and rares. got another hunter an upgrade as well if I remember. I’ll never wear the undead set, but I can always throw it on as my “Pj’s” set in shatt since the bottom looks like a dress… (call it my lolemental shaman set?)

  5. Krail on October 29th, 2008 12:47 am

I like that trinket! First time I used it I thought “whoa! epic looking palladin using a 2 hander!” *98DMG* ….WAT?! It gave me a good laugh! I just about died though when it bubble-hearthed itself. That alone makes the trinket worth it.

  6. neenee on October 29th, 2008 2:34 am

I managed to get the full sets on some characters – for a non-raider rarely-pvper like me, they were quite the upgrade ;) I like the Haste stat, it makes my Ornate Khorium Rifle that bit more speedy.

  7. Kakon on October 29th, 2008 2:48 am

I got the banner, tabard, pants (lolskirt), gloves (vendored), and horn in my four scourge outings- only about two of those were at all productive due to mass farming by raid groups. Today was my first time playing out there with my new Gorilladin. I thought my pally guildie was gonna have a heart attack when I kept gathering like six mobs at a time, hehe. He finally saw we could handle them just fine and went about AoEing his own stuff. Runes galore!

  8. Ionutz on October 29th, 2008 2:56 am

BRK, What Unit Frames are those? They look really nice and clean. I am looking for something like that that shows only pet’s buffs and timers without clogging up the whole screen.

  9. Sabiba on October 29th, 2008 3:14 am

I’m just curious where and how you’re all farming all these runes. I was out trying to the other day, and I got two runes from the three necroplsis I helped attack!!

I had some Invasion Points to myself in the morning, not many people were on then. During the day it’s much harder to get runes/items, unless you’re in a group or raid even, which I did for a bit too, as I can’t solo the elite Shadows of Doom.

As for the Unit Frames – he seems to be using ‘Perl Classic Unit Frames’ – http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info4275-PerlClassicUnitFrames.html

  11. Sthendo on October 29th, 2008 7:28 am

It took you 2 hours o.0

I had the full set after something like 30 minutes of grinding. I was well pissed off because I had affectively replaced several weeks of Karazhan/Heroic epics.

  12. Taldira on October 29th, 2008 7:33 am

It’s all about getting a raid together, and then tagging the big spawns. I got 95 runes in about an hour doing that. The big spawns drop 30 runes, enough for the shoulders/gloves at once. Plus the mail shirt dropped!

  13. freakangel on October 29th, 2008 7:58 am

I am getting no mail chest love either BRK. I got very lucky with the rares as I log in at 4am and play for an hour before heading to work. I have got 6 legs in the last 2 days (which are DEable by the way. Look for the price of void crystals to drop bigtime soon). I have got the tag on 7 shadow of dooms and got a stackload of runes but no chest of any kind, not mail or otherwise. :( . Me = discouraged.

  14. Flip on October 29th, 2008 8:16 am

    LOL
I must have gotten the mail pants and the leather pants and the cloth pants Before you got there :)

  17. ILoveApes on October 29th, 2008 9:33 am

How are you guys farming these things? Are you guys just killing scourge in the purple skull areas to get these drops?

  18. Flip on October 29th, 2008 9:43 am

Yes. The named mobs are droping them. If you are lucky enough to get there right as the invasion starts you should be able to see at least one.

  19. ILoveApes on October 29th, 2008 9:45 am

Only the named mobs are dropping the purples? And they only appear near the start of the invasions? How long do invasions normally stay in an area? Thanks.

  20. Dijin on October 29th, 2008 9:59 am

Shadows of Doom dropped the purples as well coz they gave me my chest piece – now if I can just get the legs I will be a happy bunny :)

  21. Galorfinor on October 29th, 2008 10:20 am

lol last night was in Burning Stepps for about an hour working on 5 sites before it cleared. Solo’d a Shadow and ended up with the cloth chest piece (BOE ugh) and 30 Runes (have about 90 of the dang things). Then saw that the one in Blasted land was still there, so headed over there and found no one there. A target rich environment :) , collected a bunch more runes and soon a Warrior showed up and wanted to team up, ok np. We both tried to get a Shadow down but for some reason there was 3 more that have spawn and we got hit by all four, not good.

By that time some more ppl showed up, a Rogue and a Pally. The pally want just the plate stuff and I had np with that so we finally got all four down, thanks for Pally luv and the Mail chest piece drops, so I Greed for it and would you know it the Warrior did to and he won the roll :( . But hey for almost two and a half hours I just under 12K rep for Honor and all I got out of that run was a bunch of stink’n Runes and Stone’s

  22. Macharius on October 29th, 2008 10:26 am

I’ve gotten about 4 each of the plate, leather and cloth legs, but never a mail drop, have also seen several of the leather chests drop as well, so I’m outfitted in that at the moment, Hunter is an alt so was a big gear upgrade.

  23. Ardwyad on October 29th, 2008 10:38 am

Color me confused, why bother with the armor if you’re already wearing better? Or am I being a Huntard again and missing a critical detail?

  24. McTaggart on October 29th, 2008 10:52 am

I was able to do quite a bit of this myself. My hunter, priest, shaman and mage got the tabard (didn’t really need any upgrades from the gear), my warlock and rogue got the legs, glves and shoulders, my moonkin got the gloves and shoulders, tonight my feral will give it a go.

  25. freakangel on October 29th, 2008 10:53 am

1 word: completionist. Yes I know, I made up the word, but since the achievements came around, I have a name for some of u people. :)

  26. Doomilias on October 29th, 2008 11:11 am

the antithesis to a completionist is an incrementalist.

  27. Fearstalker on October 29th, 2008 11:19 am

@ Ardwyad – for some, that gear is an upgrade. It’s pretty good. For the rest, it’s for show.

@ some others – the Shadows drop the chests, the rares drop the pants. (in a manner of speaking… )

I got about 250 runes last night and the chest, so bought the shoulders for the heck of it, even though I have better, and a full stack of the stones. Those sharpening stones should be very useful in wrath…

And I hope you are all carrying around your argent dawn comissions when doing this. I got 10 of the top-tier scourgestones and 59 of the next tier last night. Another 2400k rep right there.. :D

  28. forthepie on October 29th, 2008 11:52 am

None of the stuff is an upgrade for my hunter, but I helped outfit a mid-60’s nub shaman in my guild (that’s right I am taking over-7500gold and you can have it back!!!) Of course said nub shaman is supposed to help my nub pally get outfitted in plate. We’ll see…sometimes he can’t make up his mind.

  29. Huntardin on October 29th, 2008 12:09 pm

Anyone else greatly surprised by both the gorriladin’s reaction,
and the amount of gold BRK has?
    O_O

  30. Freakangel on October 29th, 2008 12:25 pm

@Doomilias That is one of the best articles i have ever read. I found myself laughing outloud because it describes the personalities that my co-worker/friend have and it describes us to the T.

I am the “Flexible Incrementalist” and he is 100% a completionist.

And here i thought I made up that word… :)

  31. Marathonian on October 29th, 2008 12:37 pm

    Man gorillas are the shizznit!

We had Scourge come through the sewers of Undercity, nobody else was bothering so me (67) and my gorilla (63) went to town on a dozen Flameshockers yes a friggin DOZEN 63 elites 33,310 hp each! All were made the gorilla’s bitches!

I guess I should get off my @ss and level to 70 already.I’ll get to it…after Hallows End…hopefully.

  32. Daco on October 29th, 2008 12:41 pm

I now have all but the chest piece for my hunter. I’d already gotten the tabard, gloves and shoulders. I camped in Burning Steppes over the weekend. Twice I logged in right as the scourge appeared and managed to farm a number of runes before what seemed like the entire server showed up. No chance of getting near a rare spawn or a shadow. Last night I hit EPL and got a few from one of the spawn points.

This morning I logged on and found the scourge back with no players in sight. My devilsaur (Snowball) and I had our way with them and I got 40 runes before pretty much running out of arrows, enough to finally get my pocket paladin. During that grind I killed five of the rare spawns. The first three all dropped the same plate leggings and the next one dropped a cloth item (all BoP, alas, with no one there to group with who could claim them). The fifth finally dropped the mail leggings. I left when I ran out of arrows, with the shard with about half its health and still no other players around.

@ Fearstalker: Argent Dawn Commission! Dang! Never thought of that. It’s sitting in the bank. Guess I’ll have to dig that out if I do any more of this.

  33. Mark on October 29th, 2008 2:23 pm

What I want to know is how the hell did you got 21000 gold.

  35. Nissi on October 29th, 2008 4:37 pm

The gorilla is phenomenal for this stuff. I soloed the Shadow of Doom with it and got my tabard in all of 3 minutes of work.

My gorilla is not even 70 yet and its owning pretty badly. I am still scared by the “magic” change to Thunderstomp though. Anyword from the beta about this change would be extremely helpful.

I do have to say that I was invited to a BT run last night and had my gorilla instead of one of my dps pets and it turned out to be the best thing. Using Roar of Sacrifice on the squishy as hell main tank during Reliquary, and off tanking Sister of Pleasure during Mother trash was a hell of a lot of fun. He even ate most of my Fatal Attraction keeping both of us alive.

  38. WarcraftMom on October 29th, 2008 7:53 pm

No matter how many or how few, somehow, I just seem to attract the rare guys. I got two plate pants, three mail, a leather pair and a cloth pair. I also have the gloves, shoulders, tabard, and pocket paladin. But can I get near a shadow of Doom. Nope. I’ll keep trying, but I do not foresee the chest for me.

I’ve had great luck in the Burning Steppes. It seems like it takes everyone a really looong time to get there, so I just park there and wait. Go to the Burning Steppes.

Yeah, I am now the proud owner of 2 plate chestpieces, 1 cloth leggings, and 1 leather chestpiece. My gorilladin is letting me down!

  41. casanunder on October 29th, 2008 10:36 pm

Me , clyde (my gorilladin), a prot pally friend and a dps warrior we picked up along the way played for about a hour and a half, all got the sets we wanted, AD rep and plenty of other bits and pieces that could be good fun.
enjoyed the whole thing thoroughly , definitely makes up for the sodding zombie fiasco

  42. Kakon on October 30th, 2008 1:09 am

Tonight me and a couple guildies (holy pally and lock) went Scrouge farming for the heck of it. We had wonderful luck and got a few shard spots to ourselves. Let me tell you that Thunderstomp, Consecration, and Volley can bring down 10 mobs at a time within just a couple seconds. That was the most fun I’ve had since singlehandedly zombifying half the Crossroads before the 70’s came, hehe. I <3 my Gorilladin!

Now, what to do with these 200-some runes…

BRK! As always, awesome. Question for you… What’re your actionbars? Or, moreover, what add-on it is?

  45. freakangel on October 30th, 2008 6:44 am

After 3 days of early morning scourge farming, I finally got my chest piece! It is the first time in a year that I have gear that actually matches. And my tooltip DPS went from 300.5 to 380.3! (I don’t get a chance to play alot).

  46. AceHawkblade on October 30th, 2008 2:24 pm

Inspired by BRK, my new gorilladin and I decided to try this scourge thing last night. Like BRK, unfortunately, we were unable to get the mail chest or leggings to drop. Ok, the chest dropped once, but we were grouped and the other hunter won the roll. Darnit! But, we got the leather chest and leggings, and of course purchased the mail shoulders and gloves, as well as a tabard and our very own knight. Sweet! Also got the mysterious object that makes you haunted. Very cool!

  47. Ardwyad on October 30th, 2008 3:56 pm

    @Fearstalker

Thank you. I’ve been playing for almost a year and still have a LOT to learn. Thanks

  48. Woodrun on October 31st, 2008 2:37 pm

Got the starter quest in Org, flew to EPL from UC – as sson as I got there I got a /joinparty request (maybe cause they saw my Devilsaur? lol)
Anyway, after 45 minutes with 5 of us, through 2 sites, i landed 127 runes, the mail chest, bought the Paladin, Tabard, Banner, bought gloves and shoulders.

Went back later that evening and hit the mail on my second Rare spawn!
The set looks ok (the skirt bit is alittle funny but w/e).

Group was Tanka Drood, Shammy Mage me (Hunter 51pt BM) and priest.

Shadows were not hard at all with the great tanking, and Devilsaur was 2nd on DPS on just about every kill!

Big Props out to BRK once again for all your awesome info and stories!

  49. Predator on November 1st, 2008 12:38 am

I got lucky got the full set and the pally trinket in about a day or so. My gorilliadin ,panzer loves the scourge. it took a few kills to get the chest but worth it for some easy epics.
