A Small Idea

“BRK! Hey down there.”

“What up, brain.”

You are slacking.”

“Slacking?”

“Totally.”

“Explain.”

“You need to do something epic.”

“Epic?”

“Epic.”

“Like what?”

“You know what.”

“You mean…”

“Yes. Do it.”

“People won’t do it.”

“They might.”

“They won’t.”

“Ask.”

“No, it’s too much.”

“But it’s epic.”

“Oh it’s epic. It’s probably the most epic thing we’ve ever conceived.”

“You’d need some help.”

“A lot.”

“You could get it, you know the right people.”

“They might be busy.”

“Maybe. Ask.”

“It’s too epic.”

Too epic? Can you have too much epic?”

“If anything’s too much epic, this is.”

“Too epic.”

“Yes. Much too epic.”

“See? You’re slacking.”

“It’s not slacking, it’s being… well… what happens if we tell everybody it’s epic, but then people don’t think it is, and they don’t show up.”

“It’s epic.”

“But the Miss-issue. There’d be a whole lotta Miss. The Miss would counter the epic.”

“A little. Yes, the Miss-issue would counter the Epic.”

“But it could still be epic.”

“We’d have to name it properly. No screw ups. Have you thought about that?”

“You do the thinking here!”

“Oh yeah. We’ll yes, I’ve thought about it.”

“Did you come up with something good?”

“Honestly, we couldn’t improve upon your original idea.”

“BRK’s Running of da Bulls for Ezra: The Sacking of Stormwind”

.

“That’s the one, very catchy. Powerful. Very graphic.”

“The graphic part is important.”

“Very much so. The bold text is pretty.”

“Problem. Six hundred level four Taurens can’t sack Stormwind. That’s a flaw.”

“It is a big flaw.”

“Don’t suppose you have a solution?”

“Possibly.”

“Does it involve 70s? We’d need 70s to do a good and proper sacking.”

“We do know some 70s.”

“Some, true.”

“Some. But we’d want more.”

“More?”

“Lots more.”

“How many more?”

“An entire server.”

“That certainly meets the definition of more.”

“It does.”

“But Alliance won’t attack their own capital. It’s not proper.”

“Good point. We should be specific. The entire Horde population of a server.”

“The entire Horde population of a server.”

“And all the Baby Taurens we can get to roll on that server.”

“Yes, all of them. Maybe 1000.”

“They race to Stormwind and set the entire city on fire”

“With extreme prejudice and malice aforethought.”

“Level-four Taurens aren’t going to hit level 75 elite NPCs.”

That’s the Miss problem.”

“You have a valid concern.”

“We don’t have a solution.”

“As long as people understood that it would be a very largely symbolic sacking of Stormwind, they’d accept that situation.”

“They’d have to.”

“Of course, half the population of the server, the level 70 Horde we brought, they wouldn’t Miss.”

“No, they’d do much more than symbolic sacking. So we’d have three hundred level-70 Horde, one thousand baby Taurens, and Stormwind at our mercy.”

“Mostly.”

“Mostly?”

“Mostly. The Alliance on that server will hear about your plans. They may not take kindly to one thousand baby Taurens burning their city into the ground.”

“Trying to, but Missing frequently.”

“Yes, the Missing, we discussed that.”

“You think the Alliance would defend Stormwind from the onslaught of the Baby Tauren Army?”

“They could.”

“It’s certainly within the realm of possibility, you’re right.”

“So, if things worked out… there would be 300 Horde 70s, 1000 baby Taurens, and 250 to 400 Alliance defenders, of all levels, lying in ambush for us. Is that what you’re anticipating?”

“In a nutshell, yes.”

“I think that meets everybody’s definition of epic.”

“That’s the goal. Have one great big, monstrous shoot-out and barbecue before WotLK arrives.”

“Do you have the server in mind?”

“Yes. Argent Dawn US, enlisting the help of our friends, Bloodmoon Chosen.”

“Argent Dawn?”

“Yes.”

“The biggest baby Tauren PvP event in the history of Warcraft?’

“Yes.”

“With every member of the Horde on Argent Dawn invited to join us?”

“Yes.”

“And every member of the Alliance on Argent Dawn dared to stand in our way.”

“Yes.”

“When?”

Saturday, November 8th, 6:00pm EST, 11:00pm GMT.”

“Can people pre-roll on Argent Dawn and level a toon before hand?”

“Yes.”

“So it’s not a level-one only race?”

“No, it’s not.”

“But they can just show up on a baby Tauren if they want?”

“Yes, they can.”

“Then what’s the prize?”

“There are two:

“One, all participants would be encouraged to make a small donation to the Make a Wish foundation, in Ezra Chatterton’s honor. As little as one dollar can make the difference in the life of a sick child. That’s pure, undiluted, epic Win.

“Two, those baby Taurens would have the lowest-level toons in all of Warcraft with a For The Horde! achievement completed. It’ll be the greatest screenshot of all time.”

“I wonder if anybody’ll come…”

“Ditto, foshizzle.”

Edit: Saturday, November 8th. We gotta quit writing stuff at 1am.

Aren’t you worried about crashing the server?

We took down Sargeras with 120 Alliance attacking Cairne Bloodhoof.

    I’ll be there, BRK

  5. Parise on November 2nd, 2008 2:24 am

The achievement you would receive is Storming Stormwind, a prerequisite of the For The Horde! achievement.

  6. Parise on November 2nd, 2008 2:25 am

    I will so be there!

  7. Tendrax on November 2nd, 2008 2:38 am

If I’m not working, I’ll be there. Might level a tauren hunter or druid to ten, just so we get some baby animals in on this. XD

  8. Kantaro on November 2nd, 2008 2:41 am

    *ahem* that’s MY server!!!!

hehe I’m alliance… but i have NO plans to defend SW, I cannot miss this most epic of events… I’ll roll a tauren tonight! Best plan you have every come up with :)

  9. Scarele on November 2nd, 2008 2:49 am

Holy crap…that’s my server….I’ll so be there…standing in your way!

BTW, Boom crashed the server during his farewell “party” in Stormwind. You probably heard of that.

  10. Oshry on November 2nd, 2008 2:53 am

    Hi,

    Great idea!
I play on a EU server, english version of the game, and I’m not sure how I an participate.

Can you or anyone post a quick howto play on US server if you’re EU?

    Thanks!

  11. Dahk on November 2nd, 2008 2:58 am

Too bad you aren’t doing this on Norgannon (Ezra’s home server btw) since I would totally be down to joining this. But, you know, if anything ever changes, feel free to send a contact to Dahkeus on Norgannon. ~.^

  12. Allarr on November 2nd, 2008 3:17 am

Only one word is necessary. And you said it, multiple times, and then your brain reiterated , multiple more times, just to be sure everyone reading understood.

    Epic.

    Count me in.

  13. Darksentinel on November 2nd, 2008 3:23 am

    Pure win.
    Will try to get there.
“Saturday, November 11th, 6:00pm EST, 11:00pm GMT.” <- November 11 is a Tuesday. I know this since I have an exam on the 12th, which in NZDT means I won’t be there.
Best of luck, and I’ll be with you in spirit.

    RIP: Ezra Chatterton.

  14. Allarr on November 2nd, 2008 3:32 am

I have read in various places people questioning (quite rudely, more often than not) why Ezra should be honored when there is so much suffering elsewhere in the world. To you, I would say this:

Just because we cannot help, remember, honor and love EVERYBODY in the world who suffers, that does NOT mean that we cannot help, remember, honor and love ANYBODY in the world who suffers. Ezra’s story touched a lot of people. It is fitting that the WoW community should honor him and support his family.

I would make a suggestion to BRK: perhaps have a requirement (or suggestion, really) that anyone who intends to roll a baby cow, at least level up to 5, and complete Ezra’s quest (Kyle’s Gone Missing!). Imagine having all 1000 cows standing and saluting next to Ahab Wheathoof before we all left to sack Stormwind.

Now image being Ezra’s father, and receiving that picture in an email. Or hell, since he plays too, invite him along!

THAT, my dear friends, is what I would call epic.

  15. Anonymous on November 2nd, 2008 4:30 am

Guess I’ll have to delete my Lvl 1 Gnome that I use for the Argent Dawn Raids when Blackrock is down and make a Tuaren Hunter.

    Nice One BRK cannot wait.

  16. Wolfwarior on November 2nd, 2008 4:49 am

This is the cutest, the epicest, the most touching thing I read in a long, long time. BRK, BRK’s brain, you guys are my idols. If I anyhow menage to connect to WoW before 11th November, I’ll be there.

  17. Tandah on November 2nd, 2008 4:53 am

Well BRK you have conviced me to do something WoTLK couldn’t do:

    Reactivate my account.

I only wish my $15 could go to make-a-wish instead.

    Lohn’goron, Ezra.

BRK… This is beyond Epic. This is Legendary. Count me in.

  24. KillJoy on November 2nd, 2008 7:36 am

While I appreciate the sentiment of what you’re trying to do here, you really are just going to end up crashing the server. Argent Dawn can’t even handle our own players congregating for a popular player’s (the aforementioned Boom) retirement from the game. Let alone an influx of people on baby Tauren alts.

  25. Curtis on November 2nd, 2008 7:56 am

Any Argent Dawn alliance that doesn’t roll a baby tauren for one day is a loser.

  26. Teaakius on November 2nd, 2008 8:12 am

All we gotta do is warn Bliz…they’ll be able to shuffle servers to handle it.

  27. Ganieda on November 2nd, 2008 8:50 am

Argent Dawn has had queues for login on busy nights since the 3.0 patch hit. if you do this, you WILL bring the server down. As epic as it would be, I predict it will fail with server outage. Please BRK, find another server.
I’m Ganieda of Argent Dawn, and I approve this message.

  28. Sebutor on November 2nd, 2008 9:54 am

    !! I want to go

  29. Senzir on November 2nd, 2008 10:29 am

    Epic! I’m there

  30. Tchann on November 2nd, 2008 10:32 am

    Hey BRK.

I love this idea, I really do. But I have two major concerns. #1: Argent Dawn is an rp server. It’s not *my* rp server, but it is one, and inviting hundreds of non-rp’ers there can be really disruptive. :(

#2: Last I checked, that server was pretty darn close to full. Heck, right now (9am on a Sunday, EST) it’s already got a high pop on the in-game realm list. Not exactly prime staging ground for 1000 new characters. =\

  31. BRK on November 2nd, 2008 11:30 am

The concern about Argent Dawn population is extremely valid. So we’ll ask this: if you are a member of a Horde guild that is large, established, run by adults, have many members willing to participate in this event, are on a medium or low population PvE server, and are interested in helping us raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation, send us an email. Talk it over with your guildies first; we cannot have a half-@ssed effort here.

  32. kunukia on November 2nd, 2008 11:39 am

I am in, whatever server you choose.

  33. kunukia on November 2nd, 2008 11:49 am

Actually. If you figure out a server within a day or two, I will move my one level 70 cow to said server. Good times.

  34. Erlix on November 2nd, 2008 12:13 pm

Any excuse to put an end to Varian Wrynn is beyond OK with me… Taking the big jerk out for such a good cause makes the whole thing that much sweeter. :)

  35. Berg on November 2nd, 2008 12:18 pm

    Count me in!

  36. Ougrik on November 2nd, 2008 12:32 pm

I do wonder though if Blizz has any plans for that necropolis parked outside of SW that might throw a monkey wrench into this epic plan.

  37. Kheno on November 2nd, 2008 12:45 pm

    BRK, I’m about to cry.

I can’t express how awesome this will be. I will tell EVERYONE in the guild…(Ezra’s guild) . We WILL sack stormwind.

    Thank you.

  38. AceHawkblade on November 2nd, 2008 12:51 pm

  41. Azlen on November 2nd, 2008 2:11 pm

Ezra Chatterton was Ephoenix… a proud Hunter and avid WoW player. There is no other community that could represent him, and remember him, as well as his fellow Hunters.

I wrote you a few days ago, BRK, asking for a run for Ezra and whether I sparked some gears in your head or not, I am grateful you are taking the time to organize this where others could not.

I will most definitely be there and capturing the run for posterity as a Baby Moo.

Hunters we need to step up… be there and represent!

For the Horde?.. nay..I say, for Ezra and for Hunters!

  42. Neil on November 2nd, 2008 2:50 pm

    BRK, you’re effing brilliant.

Solimal, my level 70 Tauren Druid is mired in a tight raiding schedule on Shadowsong – transferring him away for a month would upset a lot of my guildies.

But Actaeon, my level 61 BE Hunter … now HE could definitely be spared :) I’ll squeeze out as many levels on him as I can this week, and when the time comes, he will stand and fight alongside your army of baby cows.

For Ezra! And FOR THE HORDE!

  43. Rikaku on November 2nd, 2008 3:23 pm

I may be an Alliance main, but this is completely epic! I wouldn’t miss it for anything! I’m going to re-roll a tauren right now just to join in!

    FOR EZRA!!!

  44. Conflict of CC on November 2nd, 2008 3:30 pm

ICETRAP THE FRONT GATE, WE’LL FLANK EM AS THEY ENTER THE FIRST STREET INTO STORMWIND, WE’LL FLOW OUT OF THE BUILDINGS INTO THE APPROACHING ARMY, EVERYBODY DRANK THEIR CAMO POTIONS AYE? HERE THEY ARE!! CHARGE!!!..

Yeah, you’d be royally screwed if the alliance could work as a team, but as you can see in nearly all non premade BGs, We… Are… Screwed.

But the true meaning! For Ezra!

  45. Dusque on November 2nd, 2008 4:29 pm

And they say that gaming is bad for developing people skills!!

This is the most awesomest (new word alert) idea I have seen. Gifting to a great charity AND doing something special to remember a kid for whom this game was one of the few highlights in a really tough life: THAT is social networking.

BRK, for this idea alone you rate as the best blogger in WoW.

  47. mandm413 on November 2nd, 2008 6:47 pm

Come to Khadgar US, we won’t cry even if the server were to crash. Great idea, and it will be epic.

  48. Kailen on November 2nd, 2008 6:57 pm

If this does go down on AD, I will be pleased since I have a level 30-something Tauren hunter. I can get my tiny little guild to help out.

  49. Ravenrose on November 2nd, 2008 7:11 pm

Hunters for Ezra! I’ll be busy, sadly, but I’ll be there in spirit … after all, it’s about your heart, right?

I demand a damn good story about the aftermath. And a contingency plan if you crash the world server.

  50. Raventala on November 2nd, 2008 8:01 pm

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Yet another event on a Saturday that I am unable to attend.

  53. Marathonian on November 2nd, 2008 8:49 pm

  54. Paul on November 2nd, 2008 9:25 pm

BRK already stated that he wanted to do it on a low pop PvE server after the server concerns were voiced. So hold on and don’t create any new toons till we find out what server it is going to be held on. Waiting patiently … we’ll kinda. ;-)

  55. Galoheart on November 2nd, 2008 11:33 pm

That event says Epic all over it.

  56. Dan on November 3rd, 2008 12:11 am

I’m sick of hearing about Ezra. I don’t care that he died. I’m not saying this to be cool, or to be edgy, or to be an arse, I truly do not care that some kid in a foreign country I didn’t know died of a disease I don’t have. I know that people die, I know that I will die. I’ve accepted it.

Also, you are in effect, organising a server crash. Congratulations on ruining people’s evening.

Normally I enjoy BRK but this is so amazingly short sighted.

  57. Niall on November 3rd, 2008 12:32 am

  75. Dan on November 3rd, 2008 10:36 pm

I’m sure Ezra would want a server crashed in his honour.

The blog seen really is filled with blinding idiocy.

  76. Vhale on November 3rd, 2008 11:45 pm

Ooo! Just saw this and posted it on my guilds event calendar.

Also, a thought. Given that 1000 Tauren or even 300 probably WILL crash the server, you could always divide forces. Send 1/3 to SW, 1/3 to IF, 1/3 to Darnassas.

  77. Capn John on November 4th, 2008 2:10 am

I knew Ahab Wheathoof was a new(ish) Tauren/Quest but was not familiar with the story behind why he was suddenly there, although I did wonder at the voice acting as it wasn’t your typical Tauren voice.

I’ve been leveling my Tauren Hunter (yet another Alt) and I just ran up to Ahab, who turned and looked at me and said in what is now very recognizable as a little boy’s voice, “I miss my dog so much.” It was enough to make this old Hunter shed a tear.

Blizzard, you’re on notice. We will be raiding Stormwind this Saturday at 3pm PST. You need to either contact BRK and tell him to call this off, or make damn sure the Server can handle a thousand stampeding Tauren.

  78. Tzia on November 4th, 2008 4:06 am

I’ll be there, that’s for certain.

For those who think this is stupid? Go jump off a high cliff into a shallow lake please. We honor others how we see fit, if you don’t like it, go read something else.

As for now? On to Stormwind!

  79. Dechion on November 4th, 2008 9:14 am

    Gaah!

Any other weekend of the year I would have been there. Hell, I have a 70 Troll hunter sitting in retirement that I would have paid to bring over just for the event.

Sadly I am going to be out of town and away from the interwebs for the whole weekend.

    Should be a hoot though.

Since the servers went down and I can’t level…I’ve been looking at the maps and trying to figure out what would be faster: Start>Ratchet>Booty Bay>Darkshore>Elwynn>SW OR Start>Org>Grom>Darkshore>Elwynn>SW…the run to Org would be longer distance on foot, I think…but would the lack of corpse runs more then make up for that extra distance?

I have 3 level 70’s on Argent Dawn and, even though this will probably crash the server, I wholeheartedly approve.

What sort of organization will there be as far as a date/time to start and where folks’ll meet?

Also, perhaps it would be a good idea to make a guild (or two or three) for the baby Tauren that indicates that they’re doing this for Ezra.

  82. Uniquorn on November 4th, 2008 10:29 am

Fastest way from Mulgore is certainly: Start>Barrens>Ratchet>BB>Duskwood>Elwynn>SW

Orgrimmar to GG via zep would be nice, but that’s an extra run from XR to Durator and you gain little in light of the run from BB to GG.

If this is definite on the Argent Dawn server, I’m making my toon TONIGHT. Look for the white one horned tauren – UNIQUORN (hope my name is still available.)

  83. Teaakius on November 4th, 2008 10:37 am

I’ll start one (Guild) tonight, I use the same name on server. Send me a pst or email and we’ll get the charter signed…I’m thinking “For Ezra” or “For Ephoenix” unless ya’ll can come up with something better.

The easiest way to get from Tauren land to Orgrimmar is just to run up the side of the mountains and on top. There are no mobs up there. You can run all the way to Org. But, the fastest way to SW will be to run to Ratchet and take the boat to Booty. Not sure what lvl you get water walking, but I have run a lvl 12 orc hunter up the coast of STV only dying once. Back when westfall was the only place to learn and train crab. You have to swim and I had track on so I could dodge mobs. But, swimming far surpasses running the road. You can go all the way to westfall and from there, its easy.

THe only difficult parts of the swim is watching for crocs past Grom gol and the occasional murloc close to shore around the Vile Reef. Most of that water is fairly empty though.

I guess Argent Dawn is a go, then. Unless I see an update on the event today, I’ll start my new character tonight and let my guilds know.

[Run for Ezra] has been founded. “/who Run for Ezra” and pst any online members for an invite. All members should have permissions to invite. Make sure you’re promoted to the rank of “Runner” so you can do the same.

Let’s see if we get past the spam filter this time.

Well, thanks BMC for adding to the pain of a queue time. A lovely idea, on the WRONG SERVER!
