  2. Lee on November 3rd, 2008 8:49 pm

Awesomeness! I will so get a mammoth :P Cheers for sharing!

  3. WB on November 3rd, 2008 9:02 pm

    Excellent!

The thing I don’t understand about the mammoth is WHY another player would ride with you rather than their own mount. Obviously, if they are sub-60, or sub-40, then mount speed has an advantage. (Can you use them outside of Northrend?) But beyond that, what difference does it make to ride the rhino rather than my cat?

And on the flip side, why would I kick my vendors off my mammoth to make room for another lvl 80?

Obviously not big questiosn. It’s a much a status symbol as anything else, I understand that. But I do get bogged down in utility and praticality, and for this, I’m not sure I see it.

How long did it take you to save the gold, BRK?

  5. kunukia on November 3rd, 2008 9:48 pm

@WB, it is so you can dual box, and drag you alts all over tarnation. That is my best use for it.

It does totally look like a mumakil, where’s Legolas? He’s a hunter too!

  7. mirozik on November 3rd, 2008 11:04 pm

    Repair bot every where!!!

The advantage of a vehicle vs a mount is that it’s a lot harder for an enemy player to take you off a vehicle, so they make nice assault-tanks… ride up on a position, dismount, and attack without fear of being slowed or stunlocked or whatever along the way.

  9. Sin on November 4th, 2008 12:41 am

Seems like you ought to get a cut of the vendor sales. I mean 20,,000 G is quite a sum.

  10. Tim on November 4th, 2008 12:45 am

Oh man, I’m only 68 and as such don’t have my Flying mount nor my Epic Flying mount yet(nor do I have the money to get them once I do hit 70)…this is going to take forever.

  11. Rua on November 4th, 2008 1:05 am

This is one of the 2 reasons I’m grinding gold like a mad man on Live.

    Some questions:
The vendors come back each time you mount?
How long does it take to kick the vendors off your mount?
How long does it take to invite players to hop on?

I’m kind of interested in making 3player assaults, but also 3players retreats.
Would it just be faster to have everyone /mount their own?
I’m thinking this is the case, but I’d like to be wrong.

    I wanna roll A-Team style!
Cause… “I ain’t gettin’ on no plane, Hannibal.”
    ^_^

What kind of arrows do they have on this thing? I can see blackflight arrows and can’t make out the name of the other, but they look about the same price. For 20,000g you’d think they’d give you a full selection of ammo to choose from so we don’t have to keep running back to Shatt or wherever to get it. But I’m not surprised to see that the selection of hunter goodies is minimal. This is Blizzard, after all.

  13. Fluffywumpki of Dethecus on November 4th, 2008 1:54 am

@Disgruntard Couldn’t quite tell the names, but I’m guessing the arrows and shots are the high end non-Reputation variety, one each from Outlands and Northrend

  14. Phyllixia on November 4th, 2008 2:53 am

I’d definitely hope they sell decent arrows/bullets, as well as appropriate-level pet food. Saves going back to town if you’re out farming/questing, and saves a repair bot/arrow run if you’re in an outdoor dungeon :)

  15. Nastywar on November 4th, 2008 7:16 am

First of all it was BA Barakkus… aka Mr. T that hates planes…

Second of all I would like to thank BRK for that vid… oddly enough the most informative one yet…

If I am to spend 20k on something I want to know what the venders have with them.

    Now for pet food…
If you are smart while farming you will have a Tenacity pet… aka GORILLADIN yay gorilladins… and Tenacity pets hold aggro better plus they take mend pet and spirit bond heals more… PLUS they have a talent that gives them happiness when they growl…
I have my little lvl 70 Gorilladin and I haven’t had to feed him yet…

    Mr. BRK I have 1 question…
Do you have to be 80 to get him?
I know he costs 20k but I have that set aside for this…

    How do I have 20k?
    “we’re a hunter”
We hunt… we make money then we hunt more…
    God bless us hunters!

  16. BRK on November 4th, 2008 7:17 am

The vendors come back each time you mount?
How long does it take to kick the vendors off your mount?
How long does it take to invite players to hop on?

Yes, a second or two, a second or two.

What kind of arrows do they have on this thing?

    Non-reputation ammo.

Seems like you ought to get a cut of the vendor sales.

Suggested that to Blizz. Anybody can use the vendors and the owner of the mount/vehicle gets nada.

The advantage of a vehicle vs a mount is that it’s a lot harder for an enemy player to take you off a vehicle, so they make nice assault-tanks

Notice that our vehicle is shown almost like a pet? It has a health bar, right under ours.

How long did it take you to save the gold, BRK?

We used to be happy with a 5000g cushion. Then we saw the Mammoth in beta-notes in June and knew we’d have to have one. That’s when we started our gold-farming. Not 100% of the time, but we did our dailies almost every day, used gorilladin for leather farming, and used some Warcraft Millionaire tactics.

  17. Nastywar on November 4th, 2008 7:19 am

Sorry about the double post… but something just hit me…

Why can’t they have a mailbox attached??
SOMEONE PLEASE SUGGEST A FRIGIN PORTA-MAILBOX
    thx

O ya one more question to anyone that may know…
Is there an AH in Dalaran??
They screwed up and didn’t put 1 in Outland… I hope they didn’t make the same mistake again…

  18. Algörithm on November 4th, 2008 7:50 am

Does the vendor sell ammo based on your location? or just the basic WoTLK ammo?

  19. JackOfAllGames on November 4th, 2008 8:42 am

Hey BRK, thanks for another great video. You almost didn’t make it in time too. (Well, you could have waited for the Wrath release, leveled up several levels, and THEN made it.) It looks like the beta is suddenly over. Gone. Kaput.

Well, thanks again for the vid! Great site! Great vids!

Hunter pets should totally be able to ride in the extra seats. And a portable mailbox would, alone, make the 20000g sticker price worth while.

  21. Tim on November 4th, 2008 10:07 am

@Nastywar Engineers can make portable mailboxes.

  22. WB on November 4th, 2008 10:44 am

Regarding AH in Shatt, I think the lack of an AH, or class trainers for that matter, in Shatt has always been intentional. If there were no AH or Class trainers, there would be no reason to return to Azeroth, and it would basically die.

I don’t expect that theory to change in Wrath.

  23. Papaoomowmow on November 4th, 2008 11:25 am

    Gratz, BRK!

Too rich for me, but an ultra cool transport for sure.

OT today’s patch lowered rake and scorpid poison damage, while upping (to an unspecified degree) exotic pet special damages.

Blizz just doesn’t want me to use my cat geronimo anymore – he was the first pet I ever trained, and the only one I ever used for any length of time.

Lemme go looking for an exotic…..

  24. Shagrat on November 4th, 2008 11:33 am

@Papaoo-They’re changing that BECAUSE people were still using cats instead of using the exotics. Your cat will still be perfectly viable, it just won’t be putting up more damage than say a devilsaur. (Although I feel that’s because that without Go for the throat, that big red dino starves itself of focus)

The question I have about the mammoth is this: What happens when it’s health gets knocked to 0 from damage? Does it have a cooldown before it can be summoned again, or does it take a lot longer to summon than a regular mount?

  25. Sthendo on November 4th, 2008 11:44 am

Another thing (nearly said mount) I wont be able to afford. Why are they so ridiculously expensive : /

  26. Papaoomowmow on November 4th, 2008 11:54 am

    @Shagrat

    Thanks!

  27. Erlix on November 4th, 2008 12:00 pm

Nice presentation, as always, BRK… But I can’t say that I’m all that sold on it, to be honest.

  28. saphia on November 4th, 2008 12:13 pm

Lol well, looks like there’s 40K gold in my future. On my horde toons, I group with my hubby and I’m always the one who he follows around to wherever we’re going. On my ally toons, I group with my sister and – yep, I’m the one she always puts herself on auto follow.

It will be worth the extra gold just to not have to listen to either of them complain about “you got me stuck at a corner and I stopped following. Be more careful!” Somehow, neither of them seem to realize that I do this as a favor. I’m thinking they need to chip in on the gold.

  29. Rua on November 4th, 2008 12:21 pm

    Waitwaitwait…
The mammoth has a health bar?
Does that mean you (and I would guess your passengers) take no damage as someone nukes/DoTs you up as you zoom by until your “vehicles” HP reaches 0?

If this is the case, PvP’ers would be crazy to not invest in some kind of “vehicle” (don’t know how many/what different kinds)

Hell, there’s even an achievement in AV for killing someone while they’re still mounted…

  30. Nuadin on November 4th, 2008 1:38 pm

    that is TOO cool!

  31. Steve on November 4th, 2008 6:16 pm

So i assume the flag would be dropped if i were to hop on your mammoth

  32. Rugus on November 5th, 2008 4:55 am

    PRO’S
    + cool factor
    + potions/food
    + fast trash selling

    CON’S
    - 20.000G
    - NO repair discount
    - NO high level/rep. ammunitions

In a raid environment you would spend less with 1 repair bot for all the players. Having NO faction discount means that you will spend much more money for daily bills. also, what hunter would ever need “basic” ammunitions in raids/instances? No one. you spend 20.000G to get basic ammos? Hmmmm it stinks :-)

  33. Tinuviel on November 7th, 2008 1:53 am

Nice movie! Makes us all want a mammoth :>)

I think the mammoth is great, but I have a bit of a concern about the fact that this is bought with gold – not tokens or rep or some other kind of mechanism – and that being the case, it may tempt more people into buying gold? What does BRK and other people think about that? The gold selling adverts on my server have been driven into a frenzy with Wrath coming, and this is the biggest and most desirable looking gold sink in the game thus far. Very tempting to someone who wants instant gratification and can’t see their way to raising 20K. I am happy this is available to the causal player like me, but I would have preferred to see it earned through a rep grind, rather than a gold payment.

  34. Mora on November 7th, 2008 7:29 am

    @Tinuviel

I think that you will just have the pride in the fact that you dind’t buy the gold to buy your own mammoth. We can only hope that the people who buy the gold will get their account deleted.
