Mammoth Trivia
BRK’s Top Ten Thoughts About Mammoth-Mounts
10. A BM hunter, a druid, and a Mammoth can make short work of the 3/4/5-person quests. Tenacity-pets make healers happy. “You, me, and Gorilladin could take on 5-person instances!” she extolled. Don’t forget Mammoth, druid; he’s the one who got us here.
9. Mammoth got us here? Yes. Hop on Mammoth, druid gets a coffee while BM Hunter drives Mammoth through some Horde cities, flagging PvP in the process, never getting touched by the NPCs, eventually arriving at the quest spot.
“Why am I flagged?”
“We discovered that Horde town!”
“You rode through a Horde town?”
“Mammoth likes short cuts.”
8. Mammoths are down-elevators. Movie incoming tonight; you’ll see.
7. Mammoth loves to aggro huge packs of mobs, which works great with Gorilladin. Round up mobs on Mammoth, dismount, Gorilladin is on Defensive so he drops a Thunderstomp instantly, aggroing everything. Volley FTW, our XP climbs and climbs.
6. We have not yet been chastised for blocking quest-givers or mailboxes or vendors, but we were teased that we were blocking an entire city.
“Hey! You’re blocking it!”
“Apologies… what are we blocking?”
“Stormwind. I can’t see anything! That mount is huge!”
5. Mammoth brings the party wherever he goes. But nowhere does he inspire frenzy more than Goldshire. We’re not going to try to recreate the insanity of thirty-five lowbies demanding rides, but you can imagine.
4. We use AutoProfitX to dump our worthless items on a vendor whenever we open a trade window with one. We use AutoRefill to stock-up on the necessities of hunter-life whenever we open a vendor trade window. Both of these addons make Mammoth just that much more incredible.
/get quest
/hit the road
/open trade with mammoth-vendor
/autoprofitx dumps our gray items and other things we’ve programmed the addon to sell, automatically
/freerefills buys water and food and wood and everything else we’ve programmed it to buy, automatically
/repair
/arrive at quest-location
/giggle uproariously
3. Mammoth is big, but even more impressive, Mammoth is frisky. The Mammoth “jump of joy” is So. Much. Fun. He’s a very happy Mammoth!
2. Mammoth has a new macro:
/say Welcome to the BigRedKitty Worldwide Amalgamated mobile store! Buy, Sell, and Repair quickly, ‘cause Mammoth is hitting the road soon!
1. Mammoth craves an addon developer. When we kick Gnimo and Hakmud off the Mammoth, they say the same things, every time, and we’re tired of it. We want to change their lines. Who can do this? Anybody? Hello?

Too much fun, but I can’t get to Dalaran yet.
…maybe I’m finding the wrong Orcas.
Erg…computer messed up on posting my comment. Gonna try to sum it up.
I was against Mammoth buying, because I had better things to spend 20k on…but this post has concinced me that I might want a mammoth.
Also, since you like helping hunters out with glitchy WOTLK issues: My pet stopped gaining exp (visually anyways) so I put in a ticket. This is the blog post about their response. http://heroesofthealliance.wordpress.com/2008/11/15/interesting-hunter-error/
I love your lists, they are incredibly entertaining BRK! One day I hope to have a mammoth of my own, but for the time being I am enjoying living the experience through you lol!

So far I have heard that Mammoth vendors do not give reputation discounts. Are you high enough rep anywhere to confirm this BRK? To me, it would be insulting to charge me 16k gold+ to buy the Mammoth, and then to pay more than elsewhere to use its vendors. At this point I am going to skip Mammoth if I cannot get rep discounts.
Nice list though, BRK. You are a very talented and imaginative writer.
Spam-free is -really- pissing me off. It eats the message every damn time the first time.
So, short and irritated version; Quatermain, it’s like a convienence store. You pay for the convienence of having them where you need them instead of having to ride way out of your way to sell crap.
@Kemonojin
I’d have thought paying 16-20k was enough to pay for the convenience -_-
Yay! Woot! T-shirt came as well as my expansion in today’s mail! Joy! Thanks!
And to think I will never amass the amount needed for a mammoth.
BRK forgot to mention that in the process of getting the non-PVP’ing druid flagged, BRK /waved at a horde warlock, who promptly ignored him and gorilladin, and attacked the poor druid. (The druid DID in fact kill the warlock, but that is beside the point.)
Additionally, the merchants are funny, they give BRK a lot of crap for kicking them off, but it is nice to go afk and get a drink while BRK shuttles you to the quest site.
I think you should get some of the profit from people using your mobile vendors. Basically, you paid for them and you should be able to adjust their items for sale to others. Mark up the items and if people want to use the convenient vendor then they can, if not then bugger off!
Perhaps in the future you can buy inventory in which to sell to others that are unique and customized for your vendors. Buy back goods as a bartering system with the grays going for a value that has a very small margin opportunity?
Before people get the impression that you can run through a Horde city without being touched, NPCs can and will knock you off your mammoth if they daze you, same as any other mount. You can also be injured while on the mount. There is a chance that melee NPCs will attack the mammoth instead of you meaning you can breeze right by them, but casters will always target you and not the mammoth.
IMHO, the mammoth is basically useless for PVP because you cannot auto dismount on cast the way you can on ordinary mounts. This is critical for a hunter as the best way to ensure you are at maximum range is to use click-to-move against a far away target and let yourself move and then auto-dismount and fire when you get within range. You can’t do this on a mammoth, and will have to manually gauge the range if you’re not using an add-on that tells you when you’re in range and you will have to manually dismount before you can fire. Additionally, it can take a second to be ready to fire as opposed to instantly on a normal mount. This also makes it a pain to do any kind of gathering.
The vendors are unfortunately not fully stocked with what you’d expect at this price. For example they sell soothing spices but no other cooking spices or those hard-to-find ingredients like port. The arrows they sell are basic ones like Blackflight but no faction-specific arrows. They do sell fishing stuff, reagents and decent food for you and your pet as well as your party.
The mammoth also has an extremely annoying bug where you often flip around 180 degrees when you mount, jump in water or are otherwise knocked off the mount, which can be very disorienting when you’re being chased. On the plus side you can jump off a 500 ft platform and survive the drop, though your mammoth will die in such a fall. No problem as you can then just summon him again and he returns with full health. Hopefully, this is not a bug and is what Blizzard intends.
I am pretty disappointed in the mammoth as I bought it mostly for PVP only to find out it’s really not suited for it. I’d think long and hard about plonking down that kind of money unless you can afford it. Now that I have spent the money I do find being able to repair and vendor on the go convenient but hardly worth the price. It is nice when I park it outside an instance and people can get repairs done there or buy supplies if they forgot them so I always try to make the mammoth available when I can. Hopefully Blizzard will recognize and fix some of the problems and this can become a viable mount for PVP.
PS: A little mammoth etiquette here: please don’t ask where the mammoth owner got the money. A hundred people have already asked that question before you and he isn’t going to give you a lesson on making money.
BRK also forgot to mention that since mammoth counts as both a mount AND a pet, mammoth benefits from Aspect of the Pack. Still trying to test if mammoth gets both benefits from Pathfinding, but in any case, +130% (138, 148?) FTW!
Hey BRK, I was loving my gorilla after the patch until I realized that volley was costing me 5 or 6 gold in repair bills every hour. As my hunter had just hit 70 before Wrath and I’m trying to earn enough for the fast flight training, this was becoming a bit of a problem. I went back to my red kitty and took volley off my action bar; it seems to cause massive damage to my gun even if I don’t actually do more than hit the button but not use it. I know that Blizzard says it’s a “known bug” but do you have any suggestions for alternative ways to do similar damage? Barrage?
I hope Blizzard fixes it soon, I was having a ton of fun!

only 15K to go…to me this mount makes a ton (no pun intended) of sense for players who may do alot of solo play(like me). Being able to sell and repair on the spot is a massive time saver.
As always, BRK is the shizz’nit! Fo’shizzle
Oh man…if one of the Mammoth vendors sells flint & tinder and firewood, sign me up! I wanted to simultaneously clear a few bag slots & get some skill ups by doing some cooking last night…but after 10 minutes of running around & peeking in every building, nook & cranny, I found that Fizzcrank Airstrip doesn’t have a single stove or cooking fire!
So then I ran around looking for a vendor that sells flint & tinder/firewood…no dice. In the amount of time I wasted, I could’ve flown back to Valiance Keep, gotten my cook on at the inn there, and flown back to Fizzcrank. Twice.
No wonder those gnomes need our help…they’re starving out there! Maybe they’re living off of granola like those tree-hugger night elves of Sylvanaar (another town with no cooking fire).
Seriously though, from here on out, there will be no wasting of gold or time…getting repairs & selling vendor trash on the fly, giving rides to party members, basking in the envy of peers & awe of lowbies…oh yeah, must…have…Mammoth. Only 12k gold to go.
P.S. WP-SpamFree is HORRIBLE. It’s like it was built to discourage posting.
The mammoth does sell everything you need to make fire.
I really like:
2. Mammoth has a new macro:

is this part of a mount macro or just a separate macro.
I would like for my mount macro to say something simular, but only when I summon the TTM & not when I exit the vehicle – any ideas?
This post made me smile.
