This Leads Into A Huge Discussion

So we hit 75 which means this tasty morsel from Violet Hold is equipped. /score

Yes, we bought an Eternal Belt Buckle. It’s only money, right?

“So what’s with the Armor Penetration gem?” you may ask. We’ll tell you.

In the next podcast.

But here’s the thing. We’ve found a little bug with Rating Buster; it’s not calculating Armor Penetration Rating or Armor Penetration Percentage properly. We are replacing our War-Feathered Loop which had no belt buckle and thus no gems. We should have a net gain of +2 Armor Penetration Rating, not a loss of ten. We played with Rating Buster’s ignore-settings but couldn’t make it work properly. Something in the addon is amiss.

Watch the math. If an addon’s report looks wrong, double-check the results yourself.

My experience has been that rating buster normally doesnt take into account gems, independantly of what attributes the gem gives.

  2. Praz on November 20th, 2008 1:01 am

what Norta say’s isn’t exactly correct. Rating Buster does not take into account enchants or item enhancements that can be put on either item in the comparison. For example, the reason that Rating Buster showed a net loss of 10 ArP is because you could just as easily put the eternal belt buckle on the War-Feathered Loop as well, in which case you would have a net loss of 10 ArP if you equipped your Xevozz’s Belt instead…. Hopefully all that made sense :)

  3. Silmator on November 20th, 2008 1:12 am

I would guess RatingBuster can’t see the armor penetration gem since it’s a gem INSIDE an enchant (the belt buckle is considered an enchant).

  4. Stryfe on November 20th, 2008 1:54 am

rating buster has never taken into account gems or enchants

  5. Crusher0508 on November 20th, 2008 2:31 am

lol I just love the gorilla background lol

  6. Praz on November 20th, 2008 2:34 am

ratng buster does in fact take in to account gems, but since that gem could be put into any belt because of the belt buckle it does not include it.

  7. Pies on November 20th, 2008 4:44 am

RatingBuster does indeed take gems into account (if you don’t tell it not to in the ‘Ignore’ settings), and my guess is that Silmator is right — it’s a little bug in Rating Buster that makes it not see the gem because it doesn’t understand the idea of enchant-added gem slots yet.

My suggestion is to notify the author, and it shouldn’t be long until it’s fixed.

I think this is the addon I have been looking for! how does this work If I mouse over a bit of gear in my sack will it so the stats compared to what I am wearing?

I will have to give it a look when i get home

  9. Warcraft Mom on November 20th, 2008 7:42 am

I’ve noticed that there is, indeed, something slightly funky going on with ratings buster. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

  10. Sonvar on November 20th, 2008 8:44 am

You sure that you don’t have ratings buster setup to ignore gems and enchants?

  11. Chaninn on November 20th, 2008 9:01 am

I was wondering why RatingsBuster isn’t factoring Hit for you. Surely you want to ramp up hit on your items as you level up? Could you do a discussion on Hit values from lvl 70-80? I’ve seen an excellent writeup on tank defense values (BigBearButt) and very much would like to see something similar for Hunters Hit values.
    Thanks!!!

  12. Whitetooth on November 20th, 2008 9:33 am

Fixed in RatingBuster r186 beta, thanks.
Added support for “+x to All Stats”, “+x Armor Penetration Rating”, “+x Expertise Rating” Gems

  13. Zahn on November 20th, 2008 11:57 am

Definitely check your settings for those that aren’t getting calc’d gem and enchant values. I thought it was a bug as well until a friend had me check the settings. With all of the patches, xpacs, etc. my settings on some add-ons were reset to defaults (still not sure why) when I first started WotLK.

Thanks for the update Whitetooth! Now that’s listening to user feedback!

    /target Whitetooth
    /salute

Awesome addon and great response to new needs.

I’ve muddled through it long enough and I just can’t seem to find a way to manipulate Rating Buster’s settings to show the values of some of the new enchants out there (Icewalker, etc). Custom settings don’t seem to do it.

  16. G on November 20th, 2008 2:18 pm

There was a very short list of addons which I risked running during the WotLK beta. RatingBuster was on that list. Many, many thanks to Whitetooth for keeping it up to date, especially while there are probably tons of new things to follow right now (like this!).

Hey brk you main tanked anything with your gorilla?

  18. WB on November 20th, 2008 2:33 pm

Hunter hit values as well as all the other stats have been calculated by Whitetooth, may Elune protect him, /salute, and has been posted over on Elitist jerks. http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t29453-combat_ratings_level_80_a/

As I understand his posting, he’s extrapolated the values at this point, but nobody seems to doubt it. Combat hit rating for Hunters on the amount of +hit to reduce 1% miss are:
    lvl 60 – 10
    lvl 70 – 15.76923275
    lvl 80 – 32.78998947

The post over at EJ also has a ton of other values, such as agility to crit at lvl 80, etc. Great work as always by Whitetooth.

    Raid boss has 9% miss – so at lvl 70 that was 9*15.769 = 141.9 = 142.

    At lvl 80 a raid boss is still 9% miss, so 9 *32.790 = 295.1 = 296 hit rating to not miss.

If you take the 3/3 focused aim from tier 1 of the MM tree that’s 3% reduction, so you only need 6% miss – 6*32.790 = 196.7 = 197 hit rating to not miss.

Other values like Dranaynays additional 1% hit bonus, and other raid buffs also change that value.

As a BM hunter I am mostly looking at stacking ArP instead of haste. I haven’t had a chance to read up on the theorycrafting of ArP lately.

Some questions I have been wondering:

Is there a soft cap on ArP?
Does going from 30-40 ArP mean the same thing as going from 230-240?
Is it situational gear we should keep a set of and only use on lower armor class bosses?

I missed the boat on ArP as a badge gear wearing hunter. I can’t wait to listen to the upcoming broadcast.

  20. Drakoh on November 20th, 2008 5:16 pm

Drakoh wants to podcast with you! Offering incredibly entertaining voice work, chit-chats, and hunterings. Or I can do my own podcast. Oh snap.

    Edit seems borked, anyways,
    1. How do I put my spiffy avatar in the comments picture?
    2. hit me up about the podcast if your at all interested or If you like to just keep the podcast with just you on it, that’s fine with me. I have skype/ventrillio.
    3. my email is …above apperently? yes.

  22. Drakoh on November 20th, 2008 5:23 pm

Draco9898@gmail.com…because apparently my email isn’t in the comment somewhere? Sorry about this. Edit is still broken.

  23. Felandra on November 20th, 2008 11:38 pm

    Glucian, don’t bother…

If the gear has ArP, fine. If it hasn’t, then don’t bother getting ArP to ‘make up’ for that.

    The reason is twofold:

Firstly, as BM your personal DPS will take a dip compared to that of your pet. Meaning your pet will do upwards of 50+% of your DPS, that’s DPS that isn’t affected by ArP.
Secondly, ArP has been nerfed badly. While it still becomes better and better the more you have, it is much more linear now. Also, if your target recieves a raidwide -Armor debuff like Sunder Armor and/or Faerie Fire, your ArP rating will be calculated AFTER that. Meaning if you have 20% ArP from ratings and the target had 8000 armor, you will solo reduce it by 1600. With Sunder and Faerie Fire (-3925 and -1260) you will only reduce armor by 563.

Stacking ArP is thus pretty senseless. You are better off playing with AP, Crit, Hit, Agi or even Int.

  24. Rilgon Arcsinh on November 20th, 2008 11:41 pm

I can’t wait to listen to the upcoming broadcast.

Ditto, because as far as I’m concerned. ArPen is a worthless stat. I’d much rather have an equivalent amount of Intellect over ArPen. The fact that it’s a percentile amount instead of a flat amount, and it’s calculated AFTER Sunder/Acid Spit and Faerie Fire/Sting makes it worthless.

And BRK, you have GOT to fix the sensitivity of WP-SpamFree. Jesus christ.

  25. Furio on November 21st, 2008 5:16 pm

Felandra hit the nail on the head. Please don’t stack ArP. It’s no longer worth it at the moment.

  26. Stuart on November 22nd, 2008 1:52 pm

I replaced my war feathered loop with the same belt :)
