BRK Spirit Beast Movie

Full details on WoW Insider, including a map, at 1:00pm EST.

Please download the YouTube-sized (45MB) movie here, and the full-sized (70MB) movie here. They are in stereo for the best sound reproduction.

Seriously, crank your speakers.

Edit, from a comment on WoW Insider: I play the German version, and there Loque’nahak is called Gefaehrtin des Har’koa. Which implies it’s a female, and Har’koa is male. (Otherwise it would be Gefaehrte der Har’koa, or Gefaehrtin der Har’koa if they were both female, or Gefaehrte des Har’koa if both male. /end German grammar lesson.) So, at least in Germany it’s a girl. And I want her! :)

Spirit Beast is a dude, it’s the mate of Har’koa which is a female.

  2. SuperSym on November 22nd, 2008 12:47 pm

I wonder how long it will be before the Spirit Beast is a common sight amongst hunters?

  3. Shukaro on November 22nd, 2008 12:55 pm

Awesome movie BRK, but I was just wondering if spirit strike plays nice with longevity?

  10. Mephator on November 22nd, 2008 2:00 pm

And now we need to see some DPS comparisons between Spirit Beast and Devilsaur.

  11. Mephator on November 22nd, 2008 2:01 pm

    (edit button didn’t work)

To clarify: both pets have the same spec, I’m just curious how Spirit Strike does against Monstrous Bite.

  12. Audumbla on November 22nd, 2008 2:05 pm

I showed my wife (who plays a hunter) your spirit beast video, and she just had a huntergasm. I can foresee in the very near future her camping her hunter there and the both of us taking turns logging a million times until she finally tames it. This is what we did for Brokentooth back when he rocked the house. It sucked but she was a very very happy hunter when she finally got him. What husband doesn’t want to make his wife that happy. Especially when she kills everything under the sun for this resto-druid.

  13. Papaoomowmow on November 22nd, 2008 2:09 pm

A Spirit Beast pet is as cool as wowcool can be, BRK.

    Downright Cryogenic

    Gratz!

  14. Deekow on November 22nd, 2008 2:33 pm

Good grief man… stop it! I’m beginning to think BRK productions are entirely designed to get me to stick to playing my hunter after 55 on the new server. True or not, it’s working…

Beautiful beast and I must wonder if it ever doesn’t crit… lol?

  15. Koji on November 22nd, 2008 2:36 pm

Grats BRK! Been keeping an eye out for him as I’ve traveled through Sholazar, glad you could finally nab him.

  16. shibumi on November 22nd, 2008 2:40 pm

most impressive. grats brk, that’s worth a cheesy lamp

  17. Inuzuka on November 22nd, 2008 3:03 pm

    Woot…Gratz BRK!

  18. Grainger on November 22nd, 2008 3:16 pm

10 mins? he only hangs around for 10 mins?? ugh…and here I thought I would have a better than average chance on a low pop server. :o (

  19. Palladiamors on November 22nd, 2008 3:27 pm

Shmii, I am sure BRK knows that. But when many hunters tame a pet, they envision its sex as something different from what it is. When a beast becomes a hunter pet, it takes on its own personality, sex included. The vast majority of my pets are female, except for my devilsaur, and my rhino, for example.

  20. Vronak on November 22nd, 2008 3:55 pm

Will you be naming it… Megs?

  21. LostOne on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

Grats, BRK! Better to have not gotten it in beta than to get it in beta and never see it in the release version of the game. :)

  22. Brian on November 22nd, 2008 4:56 pm

zomg omg i want it so bad gratz no i gotta lv to 75 /cry

    got a name yet? ^^

  27. Siobhann on November 22nd, 2008 6:15 pm

Grats BRK! I know you’ve been wanting a spirit beast pet for a while. Better live than beta too.

  28. Jahka on November 22nd, 2008 6:42 pm

When does the 6 hour timer reset? When someone kills him, or is it a set timer?

  29. Deekow on November 22nd, 2008 6:50 pm

Just out of curiosity, anyone know what video capture and editing software he uses? Tried to find somewhere on site, but no joy….

  30. Turbo on November 22nd, 2008 7:01 pm

There is a way to gender-check your pets ingame: the Cursed Crew in Wetlands cast a curse that turns the victim into a Forsaken character model. I learned my Ravager was a girl that way :P (unless the curse also changes gender).

And this was a while ago, so it may have changed. It may also take a while for a level 28-ish mob to land a spell on a high-level pet without resisting.

  31. BRK on November 22nd, 2008 7:10 pm

anyone know what video capture and editing software he uses?

We use a Mac. Therefore, we use the built-in recording feature of the WoW Mac client to record our movies, and iMovie for post-production.

  32. Fahr & Bacon on November 22nd, 2008 7:17 pm

@Deekow – BRK uses Macs. An iMac to be specific. The WoW client for mac comes with a built in movie recorder, and he edits with iMovie.

Macs are simply too easy to use for many people to feel comfortable though I think. Why else would so many people not get one? It is more expensive, but you can do twice as many things on one without even having to think, “Now how can I do that?” It just works that way.

Spirit Beast movie is awesome. Great job BRK!

  33. Fahr & Bacon on November 22nd, 2008 7:19 pm

Curses!! Not being able to delete/edit my note (seeing how BRK answered Deekow’s question already) is a real drag.

  34. Baseballj on November 22nd, 2008 7:23 pm

Grats BRK on the Spirit Beast!!

I was very impressed with the damage output, and of course it looks so very cool too :-)

Could you do a comparison between Exotic pet and Readiness? I have been leaning towards readiness as a raiding spec…but after seeing this pet I cant help but want him…er..her…lol

    Thanks for the great production.

  35. Andy on November 22nd, 2008 7:55 pm

Seems like people reporting more then 2 spots for this pet .. and the timer is different .. between 4-10h.

  36. Palladiamors on November 22nd, 2008 8:29 pm

Turbo, all pet genders are set to female as far as that curse goes. ALl hunter minions, and all hunter pets are turned into female avatars for that curse. I haven’t tried it on a ghoul yet.

  37. Corrado Hemingway on November 22nd, 2008 10:33 pm

I’ve never before uttered this phrase, but…

    Posting in an epic thread.

Also, BRK, for those of us who are either too noobish or lazy (I am both) to know, what level was your Beasty when you tamed him?

  38. morathedwarf on November 22nd, 2008 11:59 pm

    whoa whoa whoa whoa wait!

the Mac WOW client has build in recording? WTF!

  39. Felandra on November 23rd, 2008 1:03 am

Seriously I expected epicness from the movie… I was sort os hoping for an arcane sound… You know like the voice of Jor’el when he speaks to Superman.

But this… This had my jaw dropping.

Druids like to say Rawr. Well the Spirit Beast says ROAR! That sound is enough to make anyone who hasn’t met it before run scared.
I don’t bloody care that it is troubled for DPS because Blizzard made it’s special mechanic borked with central BM talents…. Hell no, this pet is for coolness factor and being a Hunter.

    HUNTERDOM FTW!!!

Btw, will work on a solution to make sure the ‘explosion’ happens.

  40. Llwynog on November 23rd, 2008 1:30 am

I’m pretty sure harkoa refers to itself as “she” or atleast another npc does which would make Loque’nahak male, it also spawns in more than 2 spots (ive seen it).

With regards to it being the rarest pet in the game i would disagree…. in about 35 hours spent in shoalzar basin(24 straight at one stage) i saw Loque’nahak 4 times…. i am yet to see king crush once…

  41. The WIld One on November 23rd, 2008 3:16 am

Grats, Brk! I’ll be camping Sholazar myself in upcoming weeks, I’m sure…

@Llwynog: It’s the rarest pet in the game in terms of skin and class. It’s the only tameable Spirit Beast in the game, and it’s also the only mob that has that particular skin. Given a 10min window and long respawn timer, it’s probably the hardest beast to find so far.

    Macs FTW, btw!

  42. Teridom on November 23rd, 2008 6:31 am

I’m kinda curious as to where this notion of the 10 min spawn window… has this been true for all RS and I just never noticed? Or is Loque even more insanely difficult to get?

Also, I was wondering why BRK has trained his beast w/ both dash and charge. Is there something with prowl mechanics that charge breaks, or just personal preference? Seems like overkill spending on 2 talents that overlap.

…anyway, grats to BRK and GL to everybody else!

  43. Istya on November 23rd, 2008 10:41 am

Sorry to pick nits, BRK, but since Uhk’loc can be found in only one place, and he has an 8 hour respawn, wouldn’t that make *him* the rarest in the game? (my poor gorillidan is jealous of SB)

  44. Zaesar on November 23rd, 2008 10:51 am

4 days and counting, not even a sighting or word of a sighting…. Am way past making games out of mob pathing issues and beyond superstition of “I will follow this bird and where ever it goes, he will spawn!”

    Sanity.. fading. :/

Serious grats to you, though. I can only imagine how excited you were, as I will be that excited if (I mean when) I get Loque.

  45. BRK on November 23rd, 2008 2:52 pm

…since Uhk’loc can be found in only one place, and he has an 8 hour respawn, wouldn’t that make *him* the rarest in the game?

No, because all you have to do is camp one spot for hours and you’re guaranteed to see Uhk’loc. With the Spirit Beast, you have at least three places he could spawn. Much harder to camp three spots. :)

  46. Misty on November 23rd, 2008 7:37 pm

I’m also interested where this ‘only up for 10 minutes’ thing came from. Has it been proven? Has someone watched him despawn on his own?

There have been multiple reports of Loque’nahak spawning exactly FOUR hours after taming, as well as reports of him spawning by numbers greater than but not divisible by four (6 hours after last sighting for example). So my current theory is he has a very large spawn window, and can spawn at any time during that window, rather than x hours after last spawn.

Also there are DEFINATELY more than 2 spawns… there are at least and probably greater than six or seven spawns currently known and confirmed.

And yeah, at least in English version, Har’koa is referred to as ’she’ ‘her’ ‘goddess’ etc. a number of times in quests involving her. Which makes her mate male. Though you’re welcome to call your newly tamed laser-kitten whatever you want! Someone on the german servers should do the Zul’drak quests involving Har’koa and see if he/she is referred to as male/female. :P Could be a mistake.

  47. Shmii on November 23rd, 2008 11:23 pm

10:30 with the Rivers Heart being the center of the clock (upper left) spawn point confirmed. Spawned at 12:25 server time the other day.

Probably a trend in spawn times being reliable around midnight. Depends on what time (server) yours spawned at, 12:05 server or local? Or both? Anyways, something to chew on.

  48. Shmii on November 23rd, 2008 11:25 pm

    12:25 AM that is.

  49. Tigerfeet on November 24th, 2008 11:33 am

Hey congrats man! Boy that gal sounds pretty darn sweet!

I saw a hunter on my server with one and I took a moment to /w him with my congratulations. I got back such an effusive outpouring of giddy happiness that I couldn’t help but smile too.

  50. Plio on November 24th, 2008 12:58 pm

Hi BRK nice work in getting the spirit beast very lucky find, just like to say I see you have a feed pet icon on your action bar, but you know can just drag the food and click it on your pet, 1 more icon off the list.

Im a great fan of your work and Im loving all that you do and I can say I cheack your site everyday as it just sooo much fun watching your videos and blogs.

Nice work once again in supplying the big hunter community once again with this brilliant video

  51. Galoheart on November 24th, 2008 7:59 pm

    Pet sounds awesome.

  52. Walden on November 25th, 2008 7:53 am

    BRK quoted me! Whee! *fangirl*

“Someone on the german servers should do the Zul’drak quests involving Har’koa and see if he/she is referred to as male/female. :P Could be a mistake.”

I’m starting the quests in Zul’drak today, I’ll report back on this. ;)

  53. bek on January 5th, 2009 10:40 am

There is no comparison between a devilsaur and Loq’s dps. Loq doesn’t seem dps as well as your standard variety cat, due to the poor mechanics of the “spirit strike.”
