Mind talking about your new shot rotations? I’ve got about 500 more AP then you unbuffed, around 100 more hit rating (which is like 3% hit)…the only thing you’re beating me on is about 5% on crit. We have a slightly different talent build, but unless aimed shot is much better then I think it is, I’m only calculating a 50ish dps increase through talents (stings vs efficiency)…and I’m struggling to break 2k dps on heroic bosses.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still top DPS in the groups…but 500 dps adds up and I don’t think it’s coming (just) from the 5% crit….so fill us in and help us out.
NM, I forgot I had on Dragonhawk…it’s only like 100AP more then your armory.

I made myself a nice Nesingwary 4000 the other day..engineering ftw. I usually do about as much DPS as you do BRK. Damn that gun is nice.
I also was able to go out and find my nice, pretty new Spirit Beast, Lyselba, the other day. I hate to say it, but I circled all the way around Sholazar once and when I came back to the first spawn point she was there. I nearly had a heart attack and might’ve almost shot her. XD I think I must be the first on my realm with it because I don’t see any other hunters sporting her in Dalaran and everyone is so amazed that I have such a “cool looking cat,” to which I hastily reply, “It’s not a cat, it’s a Spirit Beast.”
BRK, are you keeping the Veng.Waraxe for a reason I’m missing? Maybe the ArP you were being coy about?

I have also been wondering about a worthy shot rotation for raids. Can you share with us BRK?
I checked out your armory page earlier after seeing your post about dinging 80 (major grats btw) and I saw that sweet gun you’re sporting now.
Please please please do aWotLK shot rotations post! I’d love to read about the BM rotation you’re using, but triple bonus points if you can throw some love to us MM hunters and chat about a rotation for us too!

Pretty sure the optimal shot rotation for a BM hunter is simply serpent sting, rapid fire + trinket if you have an one use trink, then steady shot until serpent is down to 1 second, reapply SS, BW + on use trink, steady shot until serpent is down to 1, etc.
And that’s exactly the rotation I’m using…minus rapid fire…for right now. I’ll throw a multi-shot in if there’s multiple targets (trash and adds)….I try to save my rapidfire for AotV so I’m in AotV for the least amount of time.

Why? It’s not the profession that matters but HOW you sell stuff. Would I prefere spending 3500G on this baby OR farming mats? I like more spending gold, because I can get 3500 just with my gathering professions

Going off of Steamwheedle’s prices, you’re looking at 750g for the Orb, 1000g for the Eternal Fire, 150g for the Eternal Shadow (go figure that out), 600g for the Sun Scopes, and 400g for the Titanium Bars.
So yeah, about 4000 gold, more or less.
I want to see a Recount for an entire run not just one boss. I think people get too caught up on what they do on boss fights and ignore how they can maximize DPS on trash. Not saying you’re doing that. Just saying that only SS’ing boss fights might lead OTHERS to keep doing that.
DPS on trash isn’t all that important, though, unless you’re going for some sort of timed run (like the Heroic CoT: Strat timed run). At least, IMO.

hey BRK i’m survival hunter always have been tries all spec’s all trees i n the past tho think iv’e spent over $1500 on respecs lol reguardless any tips on survoval i find 80% of hunters are BM/MM rarel do i see a survivalist but i m hooked on playing survival i love the abillit to multi trap an d stun concuss and all the other shots i have access to actually i am a cross SV/MM majority being in survival sooooooooooooooo yeah any tips on how to increase my attack power hit rating and agi ????

BM shot rotation is more than just steady shot. Multi-shot/aimed shot will do more damage than steady, and should be inserted into the rotation whenever it’s up.
Arcane shot can do more damage against certain targets, since it ignores armor.
In general your shot rotation should be: send in pet, serpent sting, multi/aimed, steady from then on until multi/aimed is back up. Pop Big Red Pet whenever possible (at beginnings of fights). If you have four or more targets, then volley instead. As soon as fight is over switch to aspect of the viper to regen a bit of mana between pulls (try not to viper during combat if you can avoid it)

“Multi” all depends on the tank and where how aggro is. Multi can add DPS however. If you Multi and pull the targets off the tank then you fail. ALSO if there is CC in use then you are going to break the CC and “fail”. And besides for trash pulls, if you have a decent tank that can get AOE aggro.. you can use Volley that will give you way more DPS. (If there are more than 3 mobs.) If there is no CC. If your using Multi for a Single Boss fight then it’s a waste.
Then again, maybe the game mechanics are wrong and then i just suck. But really you play how you want to play. Think survivability and DPS. i dont mind falling to second on the DPS charts if I save a squishy from death.. or have to trap.. or kite.
Considering that the mats run about 4K, I bought this last night on Aman’Thul for 3K, though I wont be 80 till the weekend.
I like the above mentioned Xbow but never have time to run instances so this is the best upgrade for the part-time player (imho of course)

A lot of people talk about shot-rotations on trash. TBH, that’s pretty pointless. Obviously, if you have a tank holding the mobs and no CC then blast away with multi/volley. If not, then focus fire. But for the most part , trash is irrelevant.
On a boss fight, even a 5-man, arcane and aimed shot historically have not been better than Steady shot spam. It’s not the absolute damage of the shot. It’s the damage per mana used. If you don’t have to move, then just mowing down the boss iwth SS spam and BW/RF/KC/Trinket will give you better results because you won’t run you mana down as fast. Less time in Viper = greater DPS.
Trash and even overall instance/raid dps charts are very misleading. Hunters are not a burst dmg class. Mages and elemental shamans are. Do a full run dps meter with them and the hunter is going to have to fight hard to keep up while they aren’t even trying. They also have to drink after every pull, but thats another issue (god i love viper!).
Trash in instances/raids aren’t even tough, they are just there to slow you down so you can’t complete every heroic in the game in a couple of hours.
The tough fights are the boss fights, and those are really what should be monitored for ability. You have to keep in mind that some fights are not friendly to certain classes. If you have a boss that whirlwinds every 15 seconds, the rogues DPS is going to suffer, but other than limited situations, the DPS on the boss fights is in fact what matters.
Sure, you can kill any trash in 2 seconds, but if you are oom 10 seconds into a 2 minute fight….guess who’s going to come out on top? The person that has built their character for long term sustained DPS.
A rotation that includes multi/aimed has a higher overall dps on boss fights — check out the elitist jerks hunter spreadsheet to compare results of 1:1 vs 1:1 priority. Of course, regardless of your spec, your ideal dps includes drinking mana pots. Just part of the cost of raiding as a mana class.

Huh? You mean mana *pot*, right? You only get one per combat after all. And given how amazing Viper is at giving our mana back, it seems to me that a better use of that potion would be health for a survivability fight and a haste potion (or whatever the new equivalent is) otherwise.
I just did 2500dps vs Heroic Mal’ganis…not feeling so bad now.
I also got a 7.56% hit rating…and no misses…so maybe BRK is right about the hit not making a difference.
I checked the AH on Quel’dorei last night…the Nessingwary 4000 was going for 12999!!! OUCH! Frozen orbs are going for over 2.5k ea. I think I will try for the bow…lol.
