We Missed

Even though our buddy Lossindle is silent — anybody who won’t return our email just has to be in the basement doing something important — WoWWebStats is back.

This is our data from our heroic Culling of Stratholme. Notice that we Missed? Our Hit Rating is down to 151. Why? Because we’re experimenting with how low it can go without tremendously affecting our DPS.

For Salramm, our DPS was 2962, combined with out pet. We missed two Auto Shots: 21 Hits, 13 Crits, and 2 Misses. Here, you can play with our report yourself here. We’re Titan.

What are we going to do about our Misses? Well, we’re gonna crank up our Hit Rating a tad. Just give it a little /nudge.

We currently have equipped a Signet of Bridenbrad with a Glinting Monarch Topaz in the yellow socket. A thoroughly nice ring, but we’re going to replace it with a Ring of Foul Mojo.

This will increase our Hit Rating by 21 — the numbers in the right column are for the bottom ring, the numbers on the left for the upper ring — as well as shuffle a few of our other stats around. The theory being: increased Hit Rating will make us miss less frequently, and the increased Hit Rating and Armor Penetration will make up for the loss of RAP and Crit. Our new WWS reports will tell us if our theory works.

Now we also have a Sphere of Red Dragon’s Blood. Why not slap that on? Because then we’d be over our Heroics Hit Cap and that’s not necessary. We need to approach, or even reach, our Heroic Hit Cap of 196 197, not bust through it.

Are we going to chuck our SoB? Heck no! We may replace non-Hit Rating Gear with stuff that has Hit Rating, in case we may have to lower our Hit Rating, so we’ll switch out the RoFM again. Save your Hit Rating gear, folks. You need to balance your stats, and having options is always good.

196? I thought the hit rating worked out as follows (at 8% miss):

Hunter Hit Cap – [32.78 Hit Rating = 1% Hit]

    262.24 Hit Rating – 0/3 Focused Aim
    229.46 Hit Rating – 1/3 Focused Aim
    196.68 Hit Rating – 2/3 Focused Aim
    163.90 Hit Rating – 3/3 Focused Aim

That is against level 83 bosses, as in Naxxramas and beyond. We’re only doing heroics where the bosses are level 82.

    That explains it all.

Thanks for taking the way of Science.

    BRK, nice posts on hitrating!

Don’t know if you know this, but the boys up at elitistjerks are doing extensive testing, and for the moment it looks like the hitrating fomula has changed. Don’t know how exactly, but it looks like the hit cap is not at 9%, but at 8%. They’ve got numerous WWS reports of people running Naxx with a hit rating around 263 without missing a single shot.

Maybe something to check out on your hitrating experimenting :)

I believe the name is Lossendil, properly spelled. ;-)

In what ways is WWS back? Does it parse Four Horsemen and Malygos now properly?

    Let’s just make this simple.

At Level 80 the caps seem to be now:
    Base Hit Caps
    vs. Level 80 mob: 5.0%, 163.95 HR
    vs. Level 81 mob: 5.5%, 180.35 HR
    vs. Level 82 mob: 6.0%, 196.74 HR
    vs. Level 83 mob: 8.0%, 262.32 HR
Note: Bolded is the current level that BRK is talking about.

Raiders will gear for Raid level mobs, but note BRK is talking about running heroics and gearing appropriatly. Also, by gearing for the mob, your not Overcapped and can think of other gearing strategies like maybe stacking Crit.

Look at the big picture before debating the strategy.

Exhaustive Hunter hit rating discussion can be found here:

    http://elitistjerks.com/f74/t37714-hit_rating/

Basically, as Brigwyn posts, it seems to be 8% now, not 9%. Also worth noting is, apparently, your hit rating is rounded *down* before it makes it to your pet, so 7.99% hit rating for you mean 7% for your pet. Lastly, recent exhaustive testing shows Focused Aim (which grants you hit rating) doesn’t transfer to your pet, making it a very disappointing talent for BM hunters.

But, BRK – why aren’t you running Naxx/Obsidian Sanctum/Eye of Eternity/Vault of Archavon? You’re plenty geared, it’s a load of fun, and there are tons of great loots to be had, even in 10 man :)

OK so out of curiosity right now I’m sitting around 3k RAP a little over hit cap and ~19% crit. I’m doing around 1800 dps unbuffed with a wasp pet. I’m thinking it would be best to work on increasing my crit rating next does this sound about right? (in groups my dps is usually around 2100)

I’ve only had opportunity to run 2 heroics thus far so my gear still needs alot of improvement but I was wondering stat wise what I should work on. Using mosly quest reward blues because instances don’t like to drop anything remotely hunter related (1 epic drop I’m using are the leather legs from heroic gun) Using nessingway 4000 and engineering goggles and working on getting the lw cape crafted.

there really doesnt need to be much more discussion than this. well done.

darn click to edit isnt working for me.

dont forget that brk preaches balance. sure, you can reach hit cap if you focus only on hit rating gear…but your rap, crit, armor pen, and stam are all going to suffer. you might not miss any shots, but the ones that do hit…well, you might as well be using a slingshot.

if you think back to what your gear was like before stepping foot into kara for the first, it was probably relatively low on the hit cap then as well. balance your stats properly and know that as you progress through content, so will your overall dps. youll achieve gear with more hit rating, more crit, more armor pen. there would be little point to advance through end game content if a player could maximize their damage dealing statistics before they were even done leveling to cap…

If I put on all of my +hit gear, I can get to over 350 at the moment. There’s a ton, perhaps even an excess, of hit on Hunter gear. All of it is good solid Northrend gear, too, no silly gimmick gear.

It’s not getting hit-capped that’s the problem… it’s getting gear that’s not swimming in hit.

How do I record information for WWS?
