Giantmaim and More Tales of Passion
Leatherworking is 444 thanks to getting a lucky armor kit proc and finishing our Giantmaim “set”:
Giantmaim Legguards and Giantmaim Bracers. And since we’re an LW, we can Emboss these pieces pretty cheaply with +114 AP for the bracers and +75 Attack Power / +22 Crit Strike Rating for the pants. /WooT fer LooT!
Passion. Does any pet create more raw emotion than the Spirit Beast? We don’t think so.
“Dear BRK, here is my sad story of taming the most hardest hunter pet out there since Grimtotem Spirit Guide became untameble (and I was little too late to tame the beauty).
“My first big chance was at 18:06 server time. Two weeks of search and i was doing my normal patrol across the great jungle of Sholazar Basin. Spamming my target macro and hoping it would be my day and it [was].
“I spotted the spirit beast and was shaking like crazy… I couldn’t find words to describe how excited I was. Tracking showed no humanoids around him and I was hurrying as fast as I could. Placed freeze trap fast and began to shoot her (as you assumed too its her) with arcane shot for tag and then tame.
“But what my eyes saw… a Human rogue coming out of shadows and tagging him just as I fired my shot.
My dream was broken, my words begging to him stop went to empty ears. All i could see was dead spirit beast in front of me [and a] happy rogue jumping in front of me for [the] achievement he got and even whispered me what spirit beast dropped.
“I was furious, angry… all the work gone to waste… I had to go offline and yell out loud the disappointment, but no…I didn’t give up even if it would take another 2 weeks of search work.
“After 1 week of searching I managed to spot her again, the time was 18:17 (coincidence). Although place was different this time.
“Again my dreams fall from sky…A paladin [was] already downing her for 20% of total hit points…i tried to say “stop!” and “please!…but loyal to his work he finished the beauty and then listened to me saying “ooooh, I’m sorry i didn’t know…”
“I ask you BRK, am I doomed to capture the beauty ? My life prevents me doing 24 hour tracking work since I’m casual player with work outside WoW. What could be the jinx i have that makes me lose faith to never capture the grand pet? I keep trying 1 more time since I’m not that kind person that gives up easily even though this has been my greatest challenge ever. Thelgrim”
“Dear BRK, well after several weeks of constant searching I finally found her. I had the /target Loq macro set up on a hot key and had just started to hit the eastern most spawn point with the gorillas when she popped up as my target.
“I accidentally hit my attack macro and was dismounted and fell dropping my health to a whooping 176… bandage, health pot .. abandon Sneaky my Devilsaur… please no one show up please please please .. dropped my freeze trap and stood on it… tame beast… ahhh where is it… finally tame beast… she dove in to me one or two hits trapped finished the tame… fed her… screamed like a little school girl.
My wife ran upstairs to see what appendage I had accidentally severed. The guild on Vent – who has been patiently listening to my ‘NO I will not run I’m Hunting THE spirit beast’ for the last several weeks celebrated. It was awesome. I had the shakes, I spent the next 10 minutes just looking at her, ohh ahh look what she looks like in BW… ohh ahhh… sooo pretty my precious. I became golem for a while. Yess I loves my precious. Winterborn”
If you’re still hunting the Spirit Beast, remember that your hardship is not one you bear alone.

Everytime I see your stats it makes me cry. I wish I had the dedication to get my LW up, gear up, and so on….lol.
Seriously, stop making a grown man cry!
While this is a great pet to get, it sucks because it’s got a bullseye painted on it because it’s part of an achievement. Best of luck to all seeking him/ her out (for a pet, that is.)
My main hunter is flying in Northrend now, and has spent some time circling Sholazar. Our guild recently changed GMs, and the new GM has been our top raiding and PvP hunter for some time. He is also looking for the Spirit Beast, but he says if we are both searching at the same time, he will let me have him. This must be new GM chivalry, and I will take full advantage of it!
I was really, really into the idea of hunkering down and looking for my own Spirit Beast originally. I’ve only seen a few on Greymane so far since launch.
But after spending some time looking around on a few different occasions I’m no longer that interested in getting it. If I was going to make that kind of time commitment for a rare spawn it would probably be for the Time-Lost Proto-Drake instead.
I’ve been hunting for the spirit beast on Ravencrest since I got my flyer back last week. I know at least one hunter on the server has her because I saw them in Dalaran. The closest I’ve come was this morning. I was flying around spamming my targeting macro and decided to take a land and pick up some leather. There, next to a group of hardknuckle foragers, was her corpse. /mourn If I had gotten there sooner, I might have been able to save her.
I was very very disappointed by the Giantmaim bracers, because they seemed worse for me than the eaglebane. though my hit rating was low. The set i made I sold on the AH. Now though with a hit rating of 189, I’m thinking i could sacrifice the eaglebane bracers for a pair. I understand HR, but ArP is still somewhat of a mystery.
I’m running heroics. is it better to be rocking a HR of 189 and an ArP of 153? or a HR of 155 and an ArP of 189? BAH! i hate maths
(19 Hours across 2 days, camping one spot. No spirit beast :-/ )
It’s kinda scary how badly some of ya’ll want that Spirit Beast…
It’s just another cat…with a laser.
Nay, not just a cat with laser’s! One of the reasons I rolled a hunter was the synergy idea between a beast and a player. Very fun. Then I discovered rare pets. Specifically the 3 rare cats in Winterspring back in the original. Before the quest involving the last 2 were open to the alliance. Add to that the last one, the big male lion, hit like a truck, feared, and frequently wiped whole groups of horde attempting the quest, and then after, disappeared in a few seconds to await the next quest attempt. In there you had a seconds long window to get the tame started. Was the last challenging pet tame in the game til now.
It’s not necessarily the pet … it’s the challenge to get them.
Now, this one’s challenge WAS more luck than skill … but still had the element of perseverance. Something MOST players lack.
I say “was” because I got him this morning.
Good times.
I am spending my time looking for the Lost Time Proto Drake. I really wish that I could find it. I love the mounts.
I will have to get this epic gear
I had the Giantmaim gear crafted for me, with mats I farmed…put that same leg enhancement on it too. Replaced both with epic heroic drops within 36 hours of having the Giantmaim gear crafted…
They’re good, and they’re nice if you can make them cheap and they’re a major upgrade for you…but if they’re only a minor upgrade, wait for the gear to drop.
what is this ‘Lucky armor kit proc” you speak of?
Spirit Beast woohoo where are you???
I have yet to see this cat on my server, but there are a BOATLOAD of people always circling SB looking for this beauty.
Someday, SB, Someday…
~ Hunter Noob? BRK Fo’shizzle!
PS Giantmain rules! Just crafted the two pieces last week WooT!
PPS Lucky Armor Kit proc…WTH is that??
I’ll share my tale of Spirit Beast woe…
First chance I could, I power leveled to 76. Right when I dinged – right then and there – I rode straight to the common Gorilla spawn point of Loque’Nahak, the infamous Spirit Beast!
He was not there.
I rode around on my pitiful polarbear for 2 days (the weekend) looking for him. He did not show. Nor did the other 2 elites that share his spawn timer.
So, I spend the next day power leveling to 77 so I could get my flyer back in the air. And RIGHT when I hit 77, I booked it to the Basin, grabbed my flyer’s reins, and flew STRAIGHT to the common gorilla spawn point.
He was not there.
I started asking around. “Have you seen him?” to the general chat. “has ANYONE seen him?!” I pleaded. “Nope” “Spirit-what?” and “lol, i juz killd him l0lz, jk jk lulz n00b” were the responses i got.
So I waited.
I patrolled at times. Camped at times. Research Wowhead, thottbot, brk, and everywhere I could about all his spawn points and times and spottings and everything. I patrolled more. Camped more. Ever vigilant, I mashed my target macro and spammed general chat. I even started bribing general chat with a reward of 4,000 gold to keep him alive if spotted (i have the money).
I did no quests. No runs. No dailies. I did not veer. I did NOTHING except for camp and patrol.
That was all throughout the week. Every night when I got home from 6pm-3am. EVERY NIGHT. Another weekend came (luckily had no plans). I camped and patrolled with only tiny breaks for food and bio and a nap. I spent long, 14-hour /sessions this weekend.
He did not show.
Nor did the other two elites that share his spawn timer.
I’m still lvl77 and the rest of Northrend has faded away.
/cry
/sleep
I have it! I was able to tame the spirit beast!!!
/cheer
Z
Quickie.
I have suffered spirit beast madness *grr*
Just no luck even seeing a dead kitty even much less the live one.
However the trolls in zul have the mother spirit beast chained up and…
Its not a spirit beast but the red eyes kittiens of DOOM from her, are pure
-awesome-!
Why is nobody talking about these?
Tamable, easy, red glowing eyes!, nice model.
Moar dps.
Sure you don’t get the lazer, but you get a better dpser with an amazing glowing eyed look! Sated my spirit beast desire. Consider it if your zooming around and having no luck. These anti spirit beast are beautifuly evil looking, and bring more for a beast masters buck then the rare.
Not that I wouldn’t trade mine in for the real deal but these are a close second in my book.
Took me 13 hours straight to get that beauty, worth every minute.
