Argent Flargent, Give Us the Loot

BRK » 08 December 2008 » In Gear » 25 Comments

Exalted with the Argent Crusade and we get a title. /big whoop. Give us that epic chest armor!

That huge chunk of Hit Rating means we can swap a Hit-ring for an Crit-ring while running heroics. When we hit Naxx, we’ll swap ‘em back, as well as throw on the Sphere of Red Dragon’s Blood we’re keeping toasty-warm in the bank.

With these Hit-pieces equipped, our Hit Rating is a fine 273, which is an extra 8.33% chance to Hit. If the 8%-people are right, we’re over-capped. If the 9%-folks are right, we’re slightly under-capped. Either way, we’re happy with our gear for Naxx now.

/bring it on!

jeebus that’s a fine looking chest you got there, Brk

    /wink

Grats Brk! I hear its at 8.6 percent +hit and from my own testing agree that its around that number.I swap the dragon’s blood trinket in just for the use effect if I don’t need to keep it equipped for the bonus hit rating.

I wish those theorycrafters would make up their mind about the +hit required; my bags are getting full with gear I *may* need to swap in and out! :P

LOL I just got the SAME title and chest like 2 minutes ago.

  5. Rotseh on December 9th, 2008 1:44 am

It’s 8% and why don’t you all test it yourselves at boss dummies.

  6. Binsto on December 9th, 2008 2:27 am

    Very nice chest indeed

I really love reading your blog , the only things i find missing on it is how the heck do you make al your money? you always got the best enchants/gems , you got the 20k mammoth, the 2k red proto drake , the 5k epic flying skill and so on , while im still riding my swift white ram , and using my 60% gryphon.

I would like to see a guide on how to set up a decent raid ui/special ui using bartender, perl and buttonfacade , i tried it myself , but i cant get a nice ui , its always so messy.

Also , an extra page would be nice where you would list al your macros , I know i should look for them myself or even create them myself (wich i normally do). But it would really help me and most likely help others to.

And keep up the good work , like i said i really enjoy reading this blog

    Greetings ,
    Binsto

BRK, why aren’t you spending 3 talent points for 3% hit? (98 hit rating)

  8. Chesko on December 9th, 2008 3:37 am

    To Stuart:

Because they don’t apply to the pet and is kind of a useless talent point now.

  9. Walden on December 9th, 2008 6:03 am

Rotseh: I still don’t trust the dummies completely. I don’t miss a single shot with 8,01% at the dummy (neither does my pet, since I spent my talent points elsewhere and equipped 230 hit (as a draenei)).
But everyone keeps telling me it’s 9%, and though I think these people are just some sort of “nooo, it’s always been this way, I am raiding 3 years longer than you, I _have_ to know better”… I’m insecure.

Will make Sartharion my test dummy tonight *excited*. And I, too, keep the Sphere in the bank, just in case. :)

  10. Teaakius on December 9th, 2008 7:36 am

I had a 7.99% hit percentage (plus the 1% racial added to it, making my chance to hit increased by 8.99%) and missed one shot in a raid according to Recount. I think that makes the hitcap 9%…BUT, I think they improved the way it scales. You’ll notice a lot more improvement the first couple percentage points and less and less of an improvement, till the last 1-2% you’ll miss so rarely that you THINK you’re hitcapped when you really aren’t.

  11. Nick S on December 9th, 2008 8:15 am

With 8.03% hit I’ve missed zero shots in 2 weeks of full-clearing Naxx-10, most of Naxx-25, Sartharion-10/25, Archavon-10/25, and some Malygos-10 attempts. My pet also has zero misses. As far as I’m concerned, the hit cap is 8%.

BUT, I think they improved the way it scales. You’ll notice a lot more improvement the first couple percentage points and less and less of an improvement, till the last 1-2% you’ll miss so rarely that you THINK you’re hitcapped when you really aren’t.

In order for that to be true, Blizzard would have to have changed their definition of “percent.” So I’m going to go with no.

Where there any Draenei’s in your raids? If so, that would give you a 9.03% hit.

  13. Manly on December 9th, 2008 9:21 am

I am really sad. The +hit trinket dropped for me in the The Nexus last night, nobody else needed, and I didn’t think I needed that much more +hit so we DE’d. I found out later that I was underestimating the hit cap for naxx :( Really mad at myself that I didn’t take it just in case.

  14. Felandra on December 9th, 2008 9:42 am

Teaakius, extensive tensting in raids and on dummies has shown that the cap IS 8%. It isn’t just anecdotal anymore. People have gone and spent hour and hours testing this.

The ‘miss’ you suffered is likely an immunity flag. For some reason they are sometimes counted as misses. And there are bosses that lower the hitrate, for instance the Wintergrasp boss.

Manly, first rule of loot: If it doesn’t fit you know (at least you think so) but might at another point, get it. I have two sets of pants, two sets of gloves (had four but sold two), a few helmets, 5-6 trinkets.
Think about getting an AWESOME epic, but it drops your Hit like a rock… You would be happy with the trinket even if you hadn’t been mistaken. But more chances will come.

  15. Manly on December 9th, 2008 9:50 am

I keep telling myself that if I didn’t pass and DE that then the Sovereign’s Belt wouldn’t have dropped for me on the next instance :)

I am green with envy!! :P lol. Gratz BRK!!

As for the hit cap? I think we’ve all made up our minds. It’s 8%. Not just on the Target Dummies, but also proven with multiple Naxx bosses.

As one poster pointed out Focused Aim doesn’t work with pet hit, so yes it’s basically a wasted talent.

And as for BRK’s theory of stacking +Crit instead of being over the cap for Heroics… Smart Raiding!!!

Speaking of Argent Crusade, what are the thoughts on:

Boots of the Neverending Path – http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44297

I’ve found most level 80 blue mail boots have 20’s for int, but less AP and AGI. Plus, this is a huge +hit bonus. If you don’t need the gem slots would this be worth consideration?

  18. Nick S on December 9th, 2008 11:37 am

I am a Troll; if there was a Draenei in my raid he was in disguise. :-P

Good boots, just about Naxx-10 quality for Hunters. Mail will generally kick leather to the curb a lot more often, but if you’re hit-starved go for ‘em. Maybe slap Icewalker on those for a nice plug-in hit piece.

The +hit trinket dropped for me in the The Nexus last night, nobody else needed, and I didn’t think I needed that much more +hit so we DE’d.

Ouchie… how did no one at all need that trinket? It’s amazing! It’s even a great threat item for tanks.

  20. Kapu on December 9th, 2008 12:09 pm

I was curious about the boots as well.

Does BRK approve of them? :D

  21. Fearstalker on December 9th, 2008 12:10 pm

    So, to summarize….

8% 263 (standard value for raiding)
7% 230 (standard value for heroics, or standard value for raiding with dranaei racial aura)
6% 197 (standard value for lvl 80 questing, or value for heroics with dranaei racial aura)
5% 164 (standard value for lvl 80 questing with dranaei racial aura)

  22. Fearstalker on December 9th, 2008 12:11 pm

and as noted elsewhere… FA is useless for a BM hunter, since your pet doesn’t get the bonus.

  23. Brigwyn on December 9th, 2008 12:28 pm

Fearstalker – Yep, that basically summarizes it. :)

And as for the fear of being hit starved? It only seems the casual’s may end up having that fear, because from what I’m hearing gear from Heroics for Alliance and Horde are providing enough +Hit.

  24. Brigwyn on December 9th, 2008 1:10 pm

So thinking more about this gearing thing..
Everyone’s making a stink over the +Hit but it seems to be pretty much decided. The next theorcraft debate is starting to center around +Int vs. +Agi for gear choice.
    We know that: +1 Agi = +1 RAP, 14 RAP = 1DPS, 14 Agi = 7% DPS (1/14 = .07)

If you have Careful Aim you get the following:
    +1 Int = +1 RAP, 14 RAP = 1DPS, 14 Int = 7% Total DPS (1/14 = .07)

So that being the case, not only is the chest in question great because can directly adding in effect +68 Int + 8 All Stats = +72 Int = 72/14 = +5 DPS on it’s own. Add to this with Greater Intelect (Rank 7) that’ll scale to 132 Int/RAP or 9 DPS.

I know that’s not much.. but it’s starting to look like +Int REALLY needs to be reconsidered as a secondary spec…
    Just a thought.

  25. Manly on December 9th, 2008 1:28 pm

Ahhh. good point about the +int giving RAP, I always forget that. This would mean the Argent Crusade leather boots only have 6 more RAP than the Dragon Slayer’s Sabatons (for instance)… before you add the 2 gems.

So, yes, I guess consider the leather boots if you are lacking +hit, but mail boots with more balanced stats will be better in the long run.
