I really hope the tier5 set-bonus comes back.

  2. Aggregate on December 9th, 2008 11:31 pm

Why does the info at the top (blizzard supplied) say the item has 784 armor but the rating buster info say 949 armor?

Oh, and grats, very nice set of gloves you have there.

  3. Aggregate on December 9th, 2008 11:33 pm

OK, after I wrote that I thought to myself, the obvious answer is talents…. and for soem reason the edit button was having trouble.

  4. Rua on December 9th, 2008 11:36 pm

    jeebus BRK..
Just how much time do you spend ingame posing your pets for shots like this?

You’ve told us you do it, Im curious as to how long it takes you and if you ever miss on a prt scn and have to log back and try again

  5. BRK on December 9th, 2008 11:47 pm

    the obvious answer is talents

Nope. We have a total glass-cannon build with no armor-bonuses. The correct answer is: Rating Buster is wonky.

    Base Armor = ( 2 * Item_Agility ) + Item_Armor

    Base_Armor = ( 2 * 75 ) + 784 = 150 + 784 = 934

Where is the 949 coming from? No idea. Look at Intellect. It has 38 Intel. Where is RB coming up with 41.8? /puzzled

    Here’s our current 53/18/0 build:

    http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=ceb0ztxRwu0est0eVb0c

Can you tell us how RB is coming up with these numbers?

  6. Shade on December 9th, 2008 11:52 pm

Most likely RB has not beencorrectly updated yet. At least thats what I believe.

  7. Aggregate on December 10th, 2008 12:19 am

I have no idea how rating buster is coming up with those numbers and the unfortunate thing is I am able to pick out some inconsistencies when they are glaring (or I forget to take into account the armor gained from agility) but the reason I use rating buster is for the close calls when I can’t be arsed doing the maths.

And that is where the problem is, it seems to be getting things wrong by only a little bit.

Oh well, back to using my brain.

I can’t imagine it will be a larger issue for me as my hunter is only level 75 and is already wearing some Northrend greens.

  8. Rilgon Arcsinh on December 10th, 2008 12:49 am

It might be thinking you have Combat Expertise. *shrug*

And unless you want the 2-piece (which I imagine you do), Handgrips of the Savage Emissary > Heroes’ Cryptstalker Handguards

In fact, the only piece of T7 worth wearing is the helm.

  9. Stryfe on December 10th, 2008 1:55 am

    haha nerfbat incoming!

  10. Jahka on December 10th, 2008 3:11 am

Bought the chest, won the gloves off Archevon, and boy am I a happy hunter

    /target pet

  11. Nick S. on December 10th, 2008 4:27 am

I did my first raid with that lovely 2-piece set bonus tonight.

It is, in a word, good. Not only was I way out ahead of other classes, I was way out ahead of other BM Hunters, by about 2.5% of overall damage done.

    Aaaaand there’s the nerfbat…

  12. Suicidal Zebra on December 10th, 2008 4:50 am

From the looks of things Ratings Buster is configured to assumed that Blessing of Kings is active.

  13. Shagrat on December 10th, 2008 6:59 am

I have my eyes set on the shoulder and helm for the 2 piece bonus. The only helm that’s comperable at the ilevel 200 is the engineer helm and I’m no engy. There are no shoulders. Every other slot has something that’s a better option for a beast master that doesn’t have a buttload of haste.

  14. Lolancey on December 10th, 2008 7:06 am

I agree with the Zebra, make sure you turn off the BoK assumption if you want a true read out, else you’ll find all your stats go wonky especially because it will add talents and BoK’s +10%.

  15. Kaeldar on December 10th, 2008 8:41 am

You lost cool points for using a christmas song jingle.

    /sad

  16. BRK on December 10th, 2008 9:36 am

make sure you turn off the BoK assumption

What? Where is that? We’re looking at RB options right now, don’t see anything like that…

ou lost cool points for using a christmas song jingle.

/denied! After Dec 1, nobody can be debited cool-points for holiday music. Before, yes. After, no. :)

  17. Rugus on December 10th, 2008 9:41 am

Just got [Rusted-Link Spiked Gauntlets] for my hunter. almost the same stuff, they’re amazing. 2000G buyout (shadowsong EU).

  18. forthepie on December 10th, 2008 9:43 am

So at what point of haste bonus from your T7 set plus other things does serpent swiftness become redundant?

  19. WB on December 10th, 2008 10:11 am

    @pie
Serpent swiftness still buffs your pet attack speed, so you proabbly shouldn’t drop those talent points. Particularly since 5/5 is required for Cobra strikes (assuming you take that after being so deep in the tree.)

So, basically, haste is not going to replace your serpent swiftness talent.

  20. forthepie on December 10th, 2008 10:33 am

    WB-

I hear you, and I do disagree somewhat with BRK’s idea that haste doesn’t really help the BM hunter. Your Autoshot damage is still a huge part of your damage and even if you can’t get SS below the GCD, that still allows you to mix other shots I think.

Just not sure if it really means more DPS though.

The Viper bonus is nice, but losing the T5 bonus to heal your pet is such a nice bonus to lose.

  21. dorgol (boulderfist) on December 10th, 2008 10:46 am

My Warlock got his T5 “heal pet on damage” set bonus as a deep Demonolgoy talent (Fel Synergy IIRC). I’m kind of surprised we didn’t see something similar for the hunters.

On the other hand, you guys get an instant HoT on your pet… Warlocks don’t. I”ll call that even. :)

  22. forthepie on December 10th, 2008 11:06 am

I’d consider it even if half the time in raiding you used your pets for more than a buff or sacrificed it for more mana/power/whatever.

  23. WB on December 10th, 2008 11:34 am

Yeah, I’ve never really bought into the warlock-hunter pet equivalency. I guess from a gameplay concept, maybe there’s some analogy. But in attempting to apply a rational relationship (admittedly to an imaginary universe) I just don’t see them as the same.

Pet source: Hunter pet – Tamed from nature, you help it build it’s skills, limited by what nature can provide. Lock Pet – summoned from depths of hell, an undoubtedly limitless source of twisted souls and monsters.

Pet leveling: Hunter pet – you have to help it build it’s skills in a symbiotic relationship. Demon – hell’s source of twisted souls is limitless, so just summon the one you want.

Sacrificing: Demon – sacrificing makes sense, yeah you’d get the buff, presumably at the cost of your own soul, but that’s the deal warlocks made early on. Pet sacrificing is a choice too – you get a nice skin or pelt from it. ;-)

As for the hunter T7, I agree with Rilgon on this one. The helm is really the only great piece compared to others (which assumes you have perfect access to all the drops), and the 2 piece bonus is probabyl worth it for BM hunters. Beyond that though, I don’t see a decent trade off. Viper bonus at 4-piece – nope. There are too many other juicy pieces that are better individually compared to the same-slot T7 to justify going for the 4-piece. Besides, I’m not running out of mana in 25-mans. Retadin Judgment of whatever and mana replenishments (even without invigoration) means there are only one or two flights I worry about mana. FourHorse due to being spread out too far for buffs, and Kel, where mana bomb wipes out half your mana. Most other fights, I’m lucky to get to 25% mana left before the boss is dead.

  24. Rilgon Arcsinh on December 10th, 2008 6:06 pm

    There are no shoulders.

Forget about Pauldrons of Havoc, did you?

  25. Phyllixia on December 10th, 2008 9:25 pm

Something that annoyed me slighty – the stats from the Cryptstalker gloves aren’t as good a mix as the BoE gloves I picked up from 10man Faerlina (damn you, +haste!). I’ll be wearing those over the Cryptstalker until I pick up another piece for the bonus.

  26. Nick S on December 11th, 2008 2:57 am

I hate to bring this up again, but… why are we still enchanting things with Agility?

Enchant Gloves – Crusher. It’s not the only example, either. Generally speaking, the AP enchants are better than their similarly-priced Agility counterparts for both BM and MM. Survival Hunters, Agi away.

2 AP > 1 Agility @ 80. It’s mathematically demonstrable, and those of us Hunters who live by the maths are also those of us Hunters whose DPS is causing the epic nerf.

On second thought… nevermind. Keep enchanting Agility.

  27. ekh on December 13th, 2008 1:52 am

If you compare t7-gloves to http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37886 (handgrips of Savage Emissary), I notice that I get more agi and ap with the non-t7 item. How about others? Should I be wearing T7 gloves or the latter one? I’m struggling in whether to put them on or not. Another question relates to the fact, that AC rep chest seems to be better than T7-chest – other opinions?

Thanks BRK, keep up on doing the good work!
