We Didn’t Choose the Dwarf Pic Intentionally, We Swear
“Dear BRK, thanks for posting all of the Spirit Beast stories. Those stories really helped motivate me to keep trying. As with all things WOW, taming this Rare Spawn was anything but usual. I have literally tried everything I could think of:
-Spent 20 solid days of 4-8 hours circling Sholazar while mining Saronite (I am now sick of Saronite).
-Created macro to spam /target Loque until I can’t fly ANYWHERE without hitting “1″ constanly.
-Memorized all spawn areas and set up an optimized route to fly to them every 5 min 34 seconds.
-Camped on said optimized route for 8 hours after server reboot (because I read it in a blog).
-Created NEW and IMPROVED marco that does a Raid Alert when Loque’NaHak is Targeted… I was falling asleep. All for naught… hopes Dashed…
“Then after the Marathon 8 hours looking for Loque’NaHak the previous night. I logged on and just happened to sit at a spawn point (I swear I didn’t even stop there intentionally). While watching YouTube. I spotted Loque’NaHak out of the corner of my eye. Loq was at the VERY same spawn point shown in your Spirit Beast Spawn Point post.
“Did my eyes decieve me was I looking at a white Gorilla??? NO IT’S A WHITE KITTY… IS IT HER IS IT HER??? YES!!!
“SHOOT TO TAG (NO stinkin Hordie is getting this pretty one!) TURN OFF AUTO SHOT! (DONT KILL HER!) ABANDON MONKEY (bye bye Trunk Monkey!) FREEZE TRAP (Ice Cube Time!) TAME BEAST (YES I DID Put that on my action BAR!!!!)
“Oh please just tame please…. YES YES you are mine now! SPIRIT BEAST TAMED!!!!! /happydance
“But the real story is what to do AFTER you get Loque’NaHak. Here is the TODO list I came up with.
1) YELL on Guild Chat. I GOT IT! I GOT THE SPIRIT BEAST!
2) Parade in Dalaran to all interested fellow Guild Hunters.
3) Take special care to flaunt Loq in front of any Horde Hunters spotted
3*) Go out of your way to flaunt infront of all Tauren Horde Hunters.
4) Name Spirit Beast after the best College Football team of all time.
5) Find appropriate background for your Pet Shot Screen Capture.
6) Email BRK
“Sincerely, Eldinar”
“Dear BRK, I am not used to writing “emotional” stories about videogames. In the same way, I’ve never found myself interested in reading any story about other players. But when it comes to Loque’nahak, things change. A lot.
“I’ve been playing MM since the beginning. I’ve never been interested in being the “top” of the charts. Uber-gear is not my concern: I enjoy our class because it’s so versatile, fun and -yes- powerful (in PvE at least) that I really do not need to check my ePeen. Also, we’ve got an unbeatable survivability that make PvE even more fun.
“It was you, dear sir, who made things change. Yes, that’s your fault. When I decided to change my mind and actually “read” a story from another hunter, I just got blasted away: it was deep of emotion, thrill, suspense and happiness. A hunter who tamed the awesome Spirit Beast, the one that some hunters can see and few… few of them can actually tame and have forever.
“Someone says those Loque tales are boring. Yes, they are. If you’re not a hunter. Or if you do not love this game. In any case, those stories inspired me so much that I decided to read everything about Loque’nahak: spawn points, spawn timer, shared spawns, abilities/bugs.
“Problem: I’m not a lucky one, when it comes to “drop rates” and “roll dices”. I’m used to it so much that sometimes I do not even bother to roll for stuff (unless it’s something really useful for my toon). Was Loque worth the camp/grind/patience? I decided to give it a try.
“Sholazar basin became my second home for 3 days. I’ve been talking with other hunters sharing experiences, ideas, suggestions… anything to just kill the time. Was it better to camp ONE spawn point or fly around spamming a macro?
“I decided that camping was the best option for me. South-east there’s a kind of “gorilla paradise” where Loque spawns in 2 near locations. That was good both for camping and farming leather, chilled meat and greens/blues to disenchant.
“Loque appeared on the 3rd day at 10:30 server time. I was not in the mood of camping as real life was calling me. But at the same time, a voice inside me was suggesting to check at least once before logging off.
“Nothing, Loque was not there. “ok I’ll quit and check the bank on my alt” I said. Click on log off. Timer starts.
20, 19, 18, … 17… *SPAWN*
“Damn I cannot believe it, it’s not real, no. Yes it is… ESC damnit ESC… STOP THE CLOCK I WONT LOGOFF DAMN… STOP! As you can imagine, in these kind of situations nerves tend to be very stressed.
“Trap. I’ll place a trap and tame Loque as I always do with any pet. Ok start taming…. NO, he jumped on me avoiding the trap. Cooldown, cannot place another trap and did not get Readiness. Damn… DAMN if someone comes here I’m done: horde players, people looking for the achievement, ass*oles, … and this place is wide open, visible, I have no cover.
“Feign death and start it over. Place trap under Loque’s feet. GOT IT, taming now…. go go go… heart beat goes along with taming countdown. 3… 2… 1… ZERO. Loque is mine.
“Wotlk introduced many amazing things: nice quests, achievements, class revamps. Overall is an awesome experience. But if I really have to choose one episode, just one… that made me feel proud to be a hunter and that made me feel actually *happy and satisfied* … well, that episode was the hunt for Loque’nahak.
“It can take few hours or weeks. It can be damned hard and discourage many of us. But the day you see the spirit beast on your side, you know, you just know that no other achievement or quest reward will ever give you the same satisfaction. Dalaila
“Tech note: Tamed at level 80. Camped 2 full days (08:00->18:00) and 1/2 using wow in windowed mode while working.”
Do you want your Spirit Beast story published? Well we can’t show them all, but to get a leg-up on the competition:
- Use proper grammar, including capitalization. We try, so should you.
- Picture attached, foshizzle.
- We’ll get toasty-warm when you use single-spaces after periods, but you know we love that.
- Spell-check that stuff.
- Give us your story, not just dates/times.

Not it’s not much of a story, but you can read mine here: http://spiritbeastwithin.blogspot.com/2008/12/hunt-for-loquenahak.html
I must say I was really lucky on my hunt for Loque’nahak.
first! nice post luv the blog
The only reason i would tame the kitty is to make it sit by a spawn point getting droves of people running over trying to tame it.
Once they realize kitty is paws off I’ll decloak and do my nightelf “not going to happen” happy dance.
That vengence is contribution for that orc huntar killing anyone incl yours truely near the spawn sites for the past 3 weeks.
You know who you are!
“4) Name Spirit Beast after the best College Football team of all time.”
If I ever get one, I may have to name in Sooners
Go Gators!
>;^^^;–
I have already donated a lot of time to the Sholazar Kitteh Patrol. There has been so many posts recently of Hunters getting their SB I am becoming a sad panda. One of these days I have to exile my guild and do another 24 hour marathon through the Basin. up and hand cramping from spamming macro. LoL
The SB watch continues…almost unabated. I have gone from circling which landed me in hot water one night as I nodded off (Yes Mrs Woodrun is a Redhead too and she didnt /smack me when I did , instead laughing at me as she saw me fly just into the edge of Wintergrasp and dismount…from 200 yards up ).
I have given up flying and have gone to camping…with Heavy Borean going from 330+ a stack to 200 a stack (at least on my server) its going to take me that much longer to get that Damn Mammoth…
P.S. Still no sign of a corpse in all my flights nor a single Hunter in Dalaran doing the dance of the Lazer Kitty.
Not again! NOT AGAIN!
/sigh.
Many things work against us while hunting this beauty:
1) it’s rare
opposite faction players who kill the cat as soon as possible
2) it has LOTS of spawn points
3) spawns are randomly shared with other 2 mobs (3 total rare mobs)
4) each respawn (cat, devilsaur or bird) has a 4-6 hours cooldown
5) an achievement asks to kill any rare (cat included…)
6) high demand: *tons* of hunters at the same time looking for Loque
7) bad players who kill it just for fun (heppened once while taming…)
9 most of the spawn points are also well known farming areas
All in all, it’s a kind of lottery. The best way to catch Loque, in my opinion, is just camping in ONE spawn point and wait… wait… wait… 1 hour? 30 minutes? 1 day? Anything. Just avoid flying around because chances do not increase doing so.
Side note: while camping, King Krush spawned in the same exact location the day before… So that’s just to confirm they share spawns (sadly).
My personal suggestions given after some camping:
a) avoid spamming “will pay good 1000G for info on Loque” in general channel
b) avoid begging and/or showing you would do anything for that pet
c) be nice: if a hunter camps a spot, find another one
d) before killing other rares (bird/t-rex)… asking if anyone is interested is nice
A note on d)… if you need the Northern exposure achievement, just kill it
. I did so on King Krush, inviting 2 other people to share the achievement.
As you can read on the main page, Loque spawned for me while logging off. Now the only boring stuff is leveling him (gorillas take 1/10 of the time). Also… DPS will be lower but hey… it’s still worth the grind, believe me.
Question: tamed Spirit Beast = level 76. Where do you suggest to farm to ding 80? Someone suggested “any heroic” but that would be bad in terms of DPS (also… people would blame me for the low-level pet).
IS there a real list of confirmed cordinates?
@ Haste
on wowhead look for Loque’nahk and read the comments. There’re 4 known and confirmed locations plus other (a total of 10 more or less) not “official” claimed by some hunters.
I had been flying the ‘route’, but finally decided to camp. I can keep it up way longer, and also watch guild chat, TV or read. My GM camps another location in the evenings, so we encourage each other.
So if you are camping. And in a generally safe area, is this appropriate?
/target Loque
/cast Freeze Trap
/cast Tame Beast
/silly
I think I am going to camp a spot.
I spent about the same amount of time so far no luck
i keep having bad luck on others killing it / tameing it and me finding krush and the bird spawn :-/ One day i well have the legendary spirit beast
Freeze trap is useless, he can move away and avoid the trap. Loque is neutral. Just move on him, drop a trap and tame (immediately). 20 sec trap, 20 sec taming, easy job. Just watch your nerves
Cannot edit my comment (btw BRK… CHANGE PUBLISHING SYSTEM I BEG YOU). Sry I misread thinking about Freezing arrow
@ Haste
It’s not because trap/arrow and tame beast are on GCD. You should’ve known this since you were playing hunter since level 1 but who knows.
@JERK
My thought was if its on GCD. The trap is still there. So if trap is not present cast it. Then regardless. I will not be fumbling all over the place in excitement.
And since it cast at my feet and if I tame it, it should not be an issue.
THE only problem is if I am not in range of Tame Beast.
Basically a macro I can spam without needing to watch the game 100% of the time. I can sit there press-press-press and watch the TV show of choice.
And you should have known this if youread my post. “Camping”
@ Rugus
In regards to pet-leveling, the normal non-heroic lvl 80 dungeons should be fine. Just make sure your group knows that you’re bringing a lower-level pet.
Or just find a spot and grind your tail off.
For leveling Loque’:
You can run a few lower level instances with guildies (or even PuGs) as well to level up a new lazer kitah as well. Running normal VH, Gundrak or HOS may not be as challenging, but if you’re running through the instance with upper level 70s with you, your DPS won’t blow and you’re still helping your fellow guild mates level.
A level 80 Hunter with a level 76 pet will not “stink up” any non-heroic instance and still your pet will level rather well.
For leveling anything, just farm mats, like cloth.
Just have persistence. I leveled my level 12 bear from 12 to 65 before the patch by killing the wretched on the Isle of Quel’Danas. Got plenty of cloth, made a decent amount of money by making bandages and vending them.
Nothing on this planet irks me more than pets with ALL CAPS or all lowercase names. Have a little respect for your pet, huh? :\ Especially Loque.
And by “We try, so should you.” Kitty means “TJ tries, so should you.”
Props to all who have found a Spirit Beast and good luck to those still trying.
But.
I would enjoy some non-spirit-beast-epic-story-themed posts once in a while.
I’m floored by how many people have apparently made it their full-time job to find this cat.
@ Michael
Problem is… epic stories strictly hunter-related are not that easy. In my opinion Loque’nahak can be considered the ultimate achievement, goal, challenge or whatever… for us hunters. BRK is inspiring people I think. It worked with me, I got interested and now I love reading how my “brothers” did.
But I agree, ONLY Loque no, it would be boring ofc.
@ Nick S
> how many people have apparently made
> it their full-time job to find this cat
That’s just because this is a hunter-related site and Loque is considered one of the best looking pets (if not THE best) in the entire wow history. Also, taming it it’s a *real* challenge. It’s a hunt, a true hunt for the beast. And believe me or not, even if can be deadly boring… it will make you feel good having it. After all, it’s just another vanity item in a vanity game.
I lost mine 2 hrs ago cause ididnt check 1 spot /cry im going back at 6 tommorow
What’s with the single spaces after periods, anyway? I’ll do it this time, just for you, but it is “proper” (albeit old) typing methods to use two periods. Yes, I know that that came from the days of old crappy typewriters, but last I checked, no new “rule” had been made.
Correct my ignorance if you please, or just plain ol’ say “That’s the way it is, here at BRK.net.”
P.S. . .
P.P.S. Somebody asked for an epic hunter story, not Loque related.
Ok. Running regular Violet Hold (and there have been a few other cases of this, also) with my gorilla, simply because I hadn’t spent time leveling up anything else. We had a druid tank, DK and Spriest dps (plus me) and priest healer.
Final boss, DK goes down almost immediately. Dummy. So, 4-man, not too tough. We had her to about 50%, then she got crit-happy on our druid, and he goes down.
No worries, I say, and I click on growl (I had thunderstomp on, already). Hit deterrence because she came for me, then disengaged. MD shots, followed by an FD, and she’s on my gorilla. Popped mend pet, and major props to the holy priest for picking up the gorilla so quickly.
Between the mend pet and uber-priestness, gorilla stayed up just fine. The Spriest and myself kept going to town, and just a few minutes later we’re all dancing around the dead dragon.
They were all floored. And needless to say, I was grinning like the Cheshire cat, taking all the epeen in.
I suppose it’s not exactly epic, but it sure as heck made my day.
I cant wait to get mine, I finnaly got 75 after I couldn’t be bother playing WoW just to talk to friends, so I started actually playing the game..
Though I really couldn’t imagine myself getting so hyped over a cat, I’m more of a wolf person, both in game and in real life..Just taming a wolf sends my heart racing..
I might get Loque just cause I feel like leaving a friend in the stable for my wolves to hang out with, but I also like the fact that Loque’s attack can confuse a feral tanking druid, making him think hes casting Moonfire, AND hes pretty.
My friend and I have talked about it a few times, and we agreed that we would both get Loque, its just a matter of time before I figure out why the hell the dude at Dalaran wont give me the starting chain to do the quests at Sholazar..
/sigh.
I hope Loque is worth getting, I don’t get squashed by the glitch Thrym while questing to 76 again..
I decided this morning that while Loque is pretty, the Cursed Offspring of Har’koa in southeastern Zul’Drak are much, much prettier.
Then again, I’ve always preferred dark colors to light.
Don’t see the fun in waiting days and days for a rare spawn and geting lucky in finding her realy. Go have some fun taming King Dred instead, that is at least an interesting tame, not just camping spawn points for days on end.
@ drakcore — After reading the first couple of lines of your plans for a tamed Loque, my first response was, “I really hate Night Elves!” Especially after being corpse camped last night by a flippin’ NE Rogue. Gave up and finally logged on an alt and did seasonal quests.
But then I finished your full post and I totally understand your desire to avenge the acts of that orc (don’t even want to call him a hunter). I whispered to a friend last night when switching to my alt that I felt like going to Elwyn and taking out my frustration on all the lowbies there (just FYI, I’ve actually never attacked the opposing faction just for kicks).
I’m sorry I wasn’t the hunter you encountered. Because believe me, if I ran across any hunter of any faction looking for this kitty, I’d help anyway I could, even it I missed my own opportunity to tame it at that moment.
I’m looking forward to when I’m high enough level to start my own hunt for this beast!
@ Almuqit…I got a Cursed Offspring when I hit 78 and man everytime I have him out in Dalaran and Org I get /pst at least a few times ‘where is that from’? He is a good looking kitty and hits like a Truck!
On the side, Loque continues to elude…
“We’ll get toasty-warm when you use single-spaces after periods, but you know we love that.”
Notepad. Load content of email. CTRL-H, enter two spaces in the first box, 1 space in the second box, hit the “Replace All” button. Save it as a file someplace. Now all double-spaces are single-spaces.
Trust no one. Keep your laser handy. The Computer is your friend.
So I am looking for Macro help with this please. I want to have this main macro
/tar Aotona
/tar King
/tar Loque
/script local t=UnitName(”target”); if (t == null) then t=date(”%S”) else PlaySound(”RaidWarning”) end; DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(t)
/script local t=UnitName(”target”); if (t == null) then /click MACRO3 else /click MACRO2
**Macro2**
(Since I have a %t already it will place a trap and start a tame? if not mounted)
/cast Freeze Trap
/cast Tame Beast
**Macro3**
(I think with Cartographer it will move you to the waypoints? I think..)
/waypoint 58.0 23.4
/waypoint 42.7 22.3
/waypoint 36.6 27.2
/waypint ETC….
I must be a company of one that thinks the spirit beast is kinda fugly, sigh
I won’t make you post mine- but anyone who wants to read it can find it on my page. Though- I must warn everyone, You’ll hate me. I got him on my first try.
/duck
/disengage
/deterrence
You’re not. LSD Wasp of Doom > Spirit Beast, any day of the week.
”taking all the epeen in.”
Bad wording!
HI BRK, I’ve been watching you’re site for a while, you’ve been really helpful in stats and what armor to get, but I’ve been watching all the posts about the spirit beast the most. I’ve searched for about 3 weeks, and I was starting to think something was wrong with my server, because I hadn’t seen him anywhere, not even the other 2 rare spawns either. Finally, at 5 am server time on Ysera, I saw him near the gorillas. I freaked, abandoned my devilsaur, tagged him, tamed and waited. I think it was the longest tame ever =D but he’s all mine, thank you for all your help and thank you to everyone who has been posting their experiences and such. Good Luck to those who are still searching! Happy Hunting
I GOT MINE>>>
31-77 She was in prowl. I could not find her. My warning was going off. YIKES!…
Then out of prowl and POOF trap and tamed..
OMG! OMG! OMG!
Also, I had an amusing conversation with a paladin in Sholozar Basin yesterday.
Pally: “hi are you here mining?”
Me: “No, I’m skinning”
Pally: “Ok. If you see a rare elite cat can you /w me? I’ll pay 200G+”
Me: “Which rare cat?”
Pally: “It’s rare……………………………………….”
Me: “Which one?” (this is me trying to see if he even knows the name of it)
Pally: “There’s only one”
Me: “Dude. Are you seriously asking a HUNTER to give you the nod on Loque’nahak? No chance!”
Pally: “Please /w me”
Me: “Nope.”
I did the whole patrol thing for a while, myself. It was good for me too, I got to level my mining. Before I was high enough level to tame Loque’nahak, I planned on killing it or cashing in on the other players who were offering 3000+g for it…..but all through the levels, I never saw it, nor saw any evidence of others finding it. (Though King Krush ate my face twice)
Then one day, I’m flying my then level 77 self down out of Icecrown and spot a node on my map. And there, prowling around…..is Loque’nahak. I had a few moments of panic when my pet wouldn’t spawn, but everything went smooth and he became mine. AHAHAHA!
By the way…..I’m a Tauren. Mooooo.
