BRK Podcast Episode 11

BigRedKitty Podcast, Episode Eleven, is published. You got your 100%, unadulterated, MP3-glory in the iTunes Store, the sidebar, and right here.

Note: the echo that gets worse and worse? Our fault, not B^4s. We forgot to wear our headphones and the Internet-delay honked up our recording. Lesson learned.

Edit: Drake-Mounted Crossbow comes from Utgarde Keep, not Halls of Lightning.

    @ last blog entry:

C’mon, we couldn’t even comment on that Rent shirt?

  3. Rilgon Arcsinh on December 19th, 2008 11:37 pm

Nice, I have something to look forward to after work. :)

And I am unbelievably honored that you linked SES on the sidebar! *faint*

  4. BRK on December 20th, 2008 12:11 am

I feel that hunters in general are a terrible class and require no skill.

  5. Thealliance on December 20th, 2008 12:15 am

BRK have you run Vault in Wintergrasp? Easy T7 i got my Valourious T7 Chest piece on a 25man run there along with 2 25mans badges

Its probably the easiest 80 Raid there is

  6. Jeanne on December 20th, 2008 12:16 am

It’s excellent and the guest blogger is great, but somehow his voice was a bit wobbly at times. Looking forward to future guests!

  7. Hathorn on December 20th, 2008 12:31 am

@BRK (Not the real one, the fake one)

Just stop, you’re not funny, nor insightful, you’re not anything.

  8. Shmii on December 20th, 2008 12:55 am

Heads up. You got the ArP backwards.

The more you have, the more it helps. The numbers required to make massive gains are essentially unattainable though. That being said, the increase as a percentage of total armor ignored is less when a tank is stacking Sunders. The bosses armor is decreased based of Sunders, then the ArP percentage is calculated from that number, effectively lowering ArP’s worth/value. The final armor level off the boss will still be even lower if Sunders are being stacked versus if they weren’t, don’t confuse that.

Long story short: Don’t. Stack. ArP. It’s not worth it with current itemization.

I think u messed up a little when u talked about the best hunter-ranged weapon outside of the Nestingway 4k. I do not believe Loken in Heroic Halls of Lightning drops a ranged weapon, perhaps you mean the epic crossbow from Heroic Utgarde Keep? The Drake-Mounted crossbow?

  10. Yari on December 20th, 2008 1:56 am

Heroic Loken actually has 0 hunter loot. The dragon crossbow you were referring to drops off Ingvar in Heroic UK.

extra internet points for Steppenwolf opening loved it.

  14. Feanas on December 20th, 2008 3:50 am

The Dragon-mounted Crossbow drops off Ingvar the Plunderer in Utgarde Keep.

Really enjoyed this cast… you two have a great chemistry and I would like to hear more of it. This was very easy to listen to, and as entertaining as you are BRK, monotony sets in after 10 minutes of just BRK and some of your casts are hard to listen to all the way through even though your have a very emotive voice (you would make a bundle in radio).

So please jot me down for a vote for more guests, particularly this one…:)

  16. Ed-tron on December 20th, 2008 7:25 am

This was really enjoyable and informative. I had to quit WoW for a bit whilst I’m in grad school, so your blog is a great way to keep up with the exciting developments. My wife says I am playing vicariously through you! …

I think she may be on the something there!

    Festive wishes from the UK

  17. Ed-tron on December 20th, 2008 7:27 am

    *on to something

(pesky typo gives the wrong impression!)

  18. Teaakius on December 20th, 2008 8:25 am

ilevels are a good way to determine an item’s strength, but it’s not -always- accurate. I have a pair of blue boots (ilevel 200) which are, imo, better then the Kirin Tor rep reward epic boots that are also of the same ilevel. You must check the stats of each piece individually.

  19. Saros on December 20th, 2008 10:12 am

Another note about ArP: It in no way transfers to our pets. Our pets get a percentage of our attack power, and a percentage of our stam. Our crit rate helps to increase the amount of focus we give to our pets through GftT, and increases the number of Cobra Strikes procs we get.

In other news after testing 20,000 shots yesterday on the IF dummy, while I was working on my last paper of the semester, I had right around a 7% miss rate and so did my pet. Since I’m a Draenei, that confirms the base 8% miss rate on boss mobs.

    :D

And Expertise doesn’t prevent blocking, and the only people that can dodge ranged shots are Rogues under the effect of Evasion, I’m pretty sure, so Expertise = No Good ™.

And I guess I’m just not chalked up to be a BM Hunter, because I don’t “get” the emotion and the passion behind Loque. *shrug*

  21. Jotun on December 20th, 2008 12:28 pm

an awesome podcast as always brk! keep em coming

  22. Rilgon Arcsinh on December 20th, 2008 12:33 pm

Also, the Mirror is not the DST 2.0, it’s the Hourglass of the Unraveller 2.0.

And Mirror of Truth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> T7-10.

Although yeah. Heroic Violet Hold. every. freaking. day.

  23. Teaakius on December 20th, 2008 1:13 pm

Yes…everything I’ve read says Expertise does nothing for ranged attacks (hunter DPS)…An item with Expertise is made for melee classes…and the only reason a hunter should take it is if the other stats are such a huge upgrade. :)

  24. MA on December 20th, 2008 1:30 pm

    BRK,

If could be so kind as do next time to please turn off the background music when you have a conversation with someone else as I noticed throughout your entire conversion with BBB i could hear two things – 1 an echo and 2 the dwarfs saying ” I can drink to that” in loop.. While I love and do appreciate your podcasts this one was difficult to listen to.

    Cheers

  25. Gorgor on December 20th, 2008 1:36 pm

    @ Rilgon
There is a DST 2.0, the [Meteorite Whetstone]

  26. Gorgor on December 20th, 2008 1:37 pm

    Dang won’t let me edit
    http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37390 There is the Whetstone

  27. Crusher0508 on December 20th, 2008 3:10 pm

sadly I most times don’t have the time to listen to your podcast when you release it and have to come back but I still take the time to listen to your intros they always make my day man keep it up

p.s. I think my favorite was the battling of huntard one lol

  28. Rilgon Arcsinh on December 20th, 2008 3:39 pm

@Gorgor: Correct. the Whetstone is DST 2.0, but BRK called the Mirror the DST 2.0, so I was pointing out the inconsistency.

And FWIW, the Whetstone is probably what I’d take if I was hit-capped without my Sphere.

  29. Nebozhitel on December 20th, 2008 4:08 pm

BRK, I wouldn’t go telling your healers not to heal you until you get really low on health. The key to healing is managing crisis situations, a big part of which is preventing them from happening in the first place. A good healer will keep the non-tanks topped off when they can, so that if things get messy they can focus on the tank without losing half the group.

  30. Thosaquinas on December 20th, 2008 8:53 pm

“Edit: Drake-Mounted Crossbow comes from Utgarde Keep, not Halls of Lightning.”

Oh really? I’ve personally invited Ingvar to 11 executions with explicit instructions to bring that crossbow and every time he brings some crappy pair of pants. Maybe next time we shouldn’t make the execution so painless for him.

  31. Davlin-Hydraxis on December 20th, 2008 9:09 pm

Great post BRK. I called up a resto druid friend of mine and told him how awesome the alignment of the stars must have been to make such an awesome podcast. I’m actually going to throw together an ArP for dummies onto my blog this week. I’m going to try to keep math out of it, but yeah, like that ever happens, dang math.

Great cast BRK. I like the guest idea.

  32. Rayvynn on December 20th, 2008 9:13 pm

As a healer, I thank you for saying that “Tank is priority!”. Y’know how many times I’ve been chided in a PUG for healing the tank above the DPS? Too many to count. Love the site, I come over here from BBB on occasion when I go to my Hunter alt. ;)

  33. Teaakius on December 21st, 2008 5:58 am

Yes, healers…focus on the tank…but in some fights (IE Loken) if you don’t do party healing you’re gonna wipe…I appreciate when healers get a chance to heal me or my pet, but save for some fights I don’t expect it, and if it happens (and causes the tank to die) I’m going to be very upset.

  34. Valrik on December 21st, 2008 3:17 pm

awesome pod-cast perhaps you’ll have a different guest next time? maybe… megs?

  35. Berg on December 21st, 2008 8:48 pm

Great cast as always. Love the guest too. Nice idea for changing things up a bit. Thanks for always taking the time to really flush things out. Very helpful for a perpetual noob like myself.

  36. Stang on December 22nd, 2008 4:38 am

    When did B4 roll a DK? =D

And Rilgon, I simply can’t fathom one not loving Spirit Beast. But hey, if LSD Wasp is your cup of tea, you’re welcome to it.

  37. Rilgon Arcsinh on December 22nd, 2008 3:52 pm

And Rilgon, I simply can’t fathom one not loving Spirit Beast.

Because it’s simply a slightly less-generic cat, and I don’t like cats, either. It has glowy eyes and casts Moonfire, but at the end of the day, it’s a stinking cat.

I can empathize with the difficulty of the hunt, and for some people, that’s the whole reason. As someone who played Phantasy Star Online, I can COMPLETELY understand the concept of a rare hunt.

But no, Loque does nothing for me. Sorry.

  38. Kai on December 24th, 2008 12:25 am

How do you listen to these? :(
