lego_speed_racerWe have a nice article on WoW Insider today at 2:00pm EST about the tragedy that is Armor Penetration. No, we won’t be on the WoW Insider podcast today. Yes, we’re going to try to record our own, though. Do you have something you’d like us to talk about?

Mrs BRK brought home two dozen donuts. The total percentage of donuts that contain raspberry? Zero.

Did you hear we got mentioned on the Diggnation show? About thirty-four minutes in, we get a shout-out. /sweet

Our family received a Wii for Christmas. /yawn

Our son received three huge Lego construction sets. /score!!

Lego > Wii.

(Of course, model rockets > Lego, but that’s a few years off.)

People are asking a lot of questions about level-80 talent builds. Here’s the problem: there is no “correct” thing to do with the final three points of a 53/15/0 +3 build.

If you have a ret pally in your party or raid, there’s no reason at all to choose Efficiency, but if you don’t, and you’re constantly going OOM halfway through boss-fights, take Efficiency with out blessing.

If you’re diligent about putting up Serpent Sting because you’re using the Glyph of Steady Shot, Improved Stings is perfectly acceptable, too.

We’ve been a Rapid Killing addict before, and if you put two of your remaining points in that, we won’t get mad.

If your Hit Rating is low and you take some Focused Aim to address the problem, you’re solid.

If you’ve got a healer who takes care of your pet, go back to BM and snag Spirit Bond for the bonus to heals-received.

There’s lots of great choices for those last three points, it’s kinda hard to screw it up. There are lots of variations on the 53/15/0 + 3 spec that are running around lately, and we like them all. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Everybody hates it when the Wyrm Riding quest for Sons of Hodir bugs out, but the absolute worst part of those dailies has to be searching for the giant undead guys. Two hundred people all trying to kill the eight giants that spawn is /fail, Blizzard.

We like taking the Oracle bouncing-guy out to dig for buried shiny things.

We dislike committing mass genocide and wiping out the dog-people. We don’t know for certain, but the ratio of people choosing the Oracles over the Frenzyheart is probably 95/5. They’re just getting destroyed over there, day in and day out.

I absolutely agree with your observation concerning the Sons of Hodir-daily quests. Personally, I tend to skip the giants-part, being less amoured with hordes killing me to reduce their competition.

And speaking as the personal healer for my roomie’s BM hunter – we love it when you spec for added healing on the pet. Especially when said pet tanks in the four horsemen-fight.

  2. Nance on December 27th, 2008 11:38 am

The worst part of that particular Hodir daily is that other players can steal the corpses without getting the actual kill themselves. I couldn’t be happier that I’ve got my Sons of Hodir rep up to Exalted already. I won’t miss doing some of those quests at all.

Podcast Idea: Can you talk a little bit about rings for hunters?

  3. Grim on December 27th, 2008 11:56 am

I do kinda feel bad for the Frenzyheart tribe as well, and I fully intend to change over to them – it’s just.. hard when you know every week (sundays for me) means another shot at the proto drake. I fully expect/hope that the Frenzyheart Tribe gets some goodies as well.

Oh, and Ayms, yeah, you up there! Mind you that during the last kill I used Steve, didn’t I? +50% healing recieved, 40% for being Tenacity, 10% from Spirit Bond. So.. okay, maybe Steve (scorpid) can be okay.

    Still. Hate Steve.

  4. Aymee on December 27th, 2008 12:13 pm

Steve is awful. I miss Ed. And I think we’re spamming the good BRK’s blog now. (and I thought hyenas would be good for pvp too, why do you not use him?)
    Clever me. I added a hunter-question.

  5. Thealliance on December 27th, 2008 1:03 pm

There may be a Typo where u say “With out blessing” instead of “With our Blessing”

and people on my server keep saying cat/scorpid Dps > Devilsaur DPS for bosses, is it really better?

  6. Aaron on December 27th, 2008 1:42 pm

    Thealliance,

Cat DPS is borked right now. Nerfpatch will fix that.

  7. Thealliance on December 27th, 2008 1:45 pm

    Ok, thank you

  8. Timothy on December 27th, 2008 2:15 pm

Being an avid Diggnation fan, I heard that and was quite surprised myself!

  9. Holyreaper on December 27th, 2008 2:48 pm

    Legos > Wii anyday :P

  10. kcs_hiker on December 27th, 2008 3:14 pm

I second that legos>>Wii… although Guitar Hero/GHWT isn’t bad for family play.

  11. KC on December 27th, 2008 4:02 pm

But the Frenzyheart are not nice. They moved in and are trying to kill the gorlocs just because they’re ugly, they enslave random trolls and blood elves for killing stuff, and they poke baby gorillas with sharp sticks. Poor softknuckles. :-(

  12. Truewanderer on December 27th, 2008 4:50 pm

I saw the article for Wowinsider, a less clear cut question in my mind, what about the items that have the choice between haste and arm. pen.? I’ve leaned towards Arm. pen. but have no math on my side.

Also for the +3 pts I’d go with the Survival talent of improved tracking, the upcoming patch switches it to just +1% damage for each point there if your tracking anything(besides herbs and minerals). 3% damage increase=win(one could argue taking an extra 2 pts there over the last 2 in Mortal Shots since it no longer applies to auto shot crits, unless I’m very mistaken).

    Stupid Bigtongues.

    Dumb puppy-people.

  15. Rilgon Arcsinh on December 27th, 2008 11:08 pm

@Nance: Sealing Band of Grobbulus and Surge Needle Ring if you’re raiding; Mobius Band and Signet of Bridenbrad if you’re not.

  16. Posolutely on December 27th, 2008 11:38 pm

I’ve found that the Giants quest a simple /1 who wants to group up and blow the horn together? works wonders.

  17. josurr on December 28th, 2008 1:31 am

in my experience with the wii most games are lame, but tiger woods golf is freaking OUTSTANDING, i highly recommend anyone with a wii to get that game it has a bit of a learning curve especially with the putting but once you get it its very addicting.

  18. Skulane on December 28th, 2008 2:24 am

    Yes ,yes, the poor frenzyheart…
Oh well time to move on.

  19. Teejay from Toronto on December 28th, 2008 3:35 am

I reallllllly want to level my hunter badly.. too bad my wife makes me play my hunter ONLY with her lock. we’re only 74, cuz we’re on conflicting schedules with work, school, etc.

OTOH, at least we dont’ touch the Wii anymore. I was so disappointed with that system. It seems such a novelty console and all.

    For sure, LEGOS>WII

  20. Linusidah on December 28th, 2008 3:50 am

hm, my hunter-classleader still claims that the best place to put thoose last 3 (5 if one can spare it) points would be Improved Tracking in the surv tree. What would you answer to that?
I personally got the last 3 in efficiency. Cuz all our stupid retri palas rolled friggin DK:s. >.<

And, I think Wii is fun, Mario ftw! Thou nothing beats the old 8bit.

  21. Noobiewan on December 28th, 2008 4:21 am

despite beign what people would call a nintendo fanboy (i hate that) i would agree that lego>wii
Don’t need to do Hodir rep any more got exalted FTW and need Oracle rep: needed for mysterious egg! a chance for the green proto mount.

  22. Charlatan on December 28th, 2008 6:27 am

I’m sorry hell will freeze over before I get chummy with those stupid overgrown murlocs, proto-drake or no proto-drake. Also – the Frenzyheart have brillaint traps! Now how come we can’t have ones like that?

    Also agree Lego>Wii

And Grim – U had a Hyena called Ed? Hey me too, kudos!

  23. Gunsnbutter on December 28th, 2008 10:33 am

May Blizzard PLEASE listen to you about the SoH ghost giant quest! Even worse, for some reason there are some horde griefers on our server who kill them just for fun to see everyone else suffer. Means that damn quest can take a half hour or more on a lot of days. Please Mr Blizzard….fix this DAMNED quest!

  24. Zanpher on December 28th, 2008 1:22 pm

We bought a wii for our family a few months it came out. It was worth it because it is the ONLY system with a wide selection of party games (aka games for 3 or more people at the same time).

The other systems are just jokes since they have a minimalistic few party games. They are good, however, for fighting games .. thats about all.

Im working on the Oracles rep gaining right now. I’d rather have the proto drakes, then the jerks crap.

On my server (Ghostlands US), people keep killing Loque even in the middle of a taming. They are all jerks over there.

  25. Woodrun on December 28th, 2008 1:31 pm

Lego > Wii (tho I did ask Mrs Woodrun for 1 for Xmas – got a PsP instead – win for me!)

Oracles > Puppys – Proto Drake c’mon…no question

I will not do SoH rep grind until that damn quest is fixed

    PS Loque Update – I have now seen 2 Loques on Amun’Thul 1 Hordie 1 Nelf…lucky buggers.

  26. yunk on December 28th, 2008 11:36 pm

Ilike legos more than Wii, cause my friend’s kids beat the crap out of me on Wii. But now they have all these Star Wars Legos they didn’t have when we were kids that his son is into for me to play with – i mean… to help educate him.

  27. Haste on December 29th, 2008 9:15 am

    Legos Legos for this Dad.

  28. Uniquorn on December 29th, 2008 10:12 am

The frenzyhearts started it. If they were really as vicious as they claim, they should be fighting to take their own land back.

  29. Jong on December 29th, 2008 11:27 am

Oracle dailies are my favorite. Poor puppy man. Thanks for sharing the talent build. I didn’t know what to do after the BC’s cookie cutter build became obsolete.

  30. Xevouse on December 30th, 2008 1:39 am

I agree that the oracles rep is the way to go for hunters, the frenzyheart don’t have any gear that would be suitable for a hunter and plus proto drake FTW vanity pets included :D
    Legos>wii!

  31. Xevouse on December 30th, 2008 1:42 am

Oh and I am a 80 hunter on baelgun that will buy any vanity pets for a reasonable price

  32. Kemonojin on December 30th, 2008 8:07 pm

“But the Frenzyheart are not nice. They moved in and are trying to kill the gorlocs just because they’re ugly, they enslave random trolls and blood elves for killing stuff, and they poke baby gorillas with sharp sticks. Poor softknuckles. :-(

    Sounds like the Alliance. /rimshot

  33. Crusher0508 on January 1st, 2009 3:04 am

do you know how to switch my reputation from frenzyheart to oracle lol I accidentally did their quests and nwo I fell trapped lol

  34. anthony on January 1st, 2009 12:08 pm

is that talent spec a pve or pvp spec?

  35. Stephf on January 2nd, 2009 11:43 pm

Its true, people do perferr the Oracles over the Frenzyheart, but I made a stupid mistake and choose the Frenzyheart by accident..Then again, our group was dying so we just choose one of them, not really caring. Least we get money from the Frenzyheart dailys..Hopefully I can fix that by helping some people doing the ending chain quest and kill the Raccoon-dog thing this time to get rep with the Oracles..

And Legos are epic, I love’d playing with them until I was suddenly missing 50 pieces thanks to my nephew stealing them and hiding them like Easter Eggs for me.
