one thing i would recommend is using the boss training dummy and making sure multi shot only hits one target if you want accurate unbuffed raid boss dps

@The Elitist Jerk and Nick S

I think you are incorrect regarding the average proc rate on serpent sting vs trap dancing.

I assume your reasoning is that that proc rate is now 10% per tick and therefore 30 seconds = 10 ticks = 1 LnL proc every 10 seconds?

But this is actually only the best case scenario: at most serpent sting can result in 1 proc every 10 seconds. If my quick calc is correct, the expected procs per 30 seconds just with serpent sting is 0.69. Adding the ticks from explosive shot brings this up to 0.89. I did these numbers very quickly though so I hope I haven't made a slip. Sorry, for not showing full workings but was concerned that I would bore BRK's good readers to tears... Let me know if you'd like more detail.

So, you're losing about 0.1 LnL procs every 30 seconds by not trap dancing.

Without going through the numbers further, 0.1 procs doesn't seem to make the additional risk from getting close or the time taken to move away from the mob all that appealing.

Sing with me now!:
"I don't feel like dancin', no sir, no dancin' today."

Nice video, BRK - informative as always, and it certainly illustrates the concept very clearly. I will desist from relishing the death sound of dwarves for a day in honour of your effort. ;-)

Personally though, I prefer the Sniper Training option - it's probably me, and this may improve with practice in the art of trap dancing, but I consistently see a difference of about 600-1000 dps on the training dummies in Orgrimmar between the two styles, and that difference is not in favour of the trap dancer when said trap dancer is I.

What is important for the Survivalist sniper though is finding a shot rotation that works well for them, and being able to break out of that rotation into another one efficiently when Lock and Load procs and then resume the previous rotation. Mine seems to work pretty darn well, clocking Recount to levels I was unable to achieve as BM before the nerf.

Lock and Load procs often enough for me when Serpent Sting is up that I feel no need to run around like a monkey in amongst the melees to place traps. Still, it does look like a fun technique, and it can be rather addictive when practising it on a training dummy.

As for a BRK tap dancing video, GIEF NAO!

Am I the only person who noticed that the PPM rate is the same with or without trap dancing?

Noticed. I find that most of the time, my trap doesn't proc LnL because the internal cooldown is still ticking from a Serpent Sting proc.

I'm going with a Sniper Training style. Trapdancing might give a slight increase on target dummies, but on boss fights the extra movement just costs too much now that there's an ICD on LnL.

@Lienna

/Bow
/salute

to whomever discovered trap dancing; and to all those trying to propogate the knoweldge...

but I doubt it will stand in the next patch. Just my opinion.

Somehow brings to mind when I was leveling my one toon, a hunter ,to 70. To save me from the time it took to get groups together, I bought up a slew of very cheap "+Healing" gear at the AH. Lowered my damage but gave a huge boost to Mend Pet. Enabled lengthy solo kills of elites.

Apparently a bunch of hunters started not just doing it but talking about it....next patch +healing gear no longer enhanced Mend Pet.

Of course the rules will always be shifting. Here's to hunters stacking personal qualities of "agility" to keep adapting...
