kitchenpassAll shirts-orders are shipped. We are whipping our design team to get a Spirit Beast teeshirt and polo shirt ready for the next order cycle, tentatively scheduled for early February.

Brain will have to do without a Raptor; we’re just not dinosaur-folk. But we are playing with a Moth again. Aspa the Broodmother is a very pretty white and we like her lots. We’re considering the names Tinkerbell and Mageadin, but we think we’re going with: Gcnerfedmeh.

Grinding and leveling as an SV is totally different than raiding as an SV. If you’re considering raiding as an SV, don’t think that you need to level as an SV, but don’t think you’re prepared to raid as an SV if you do level as an SV.

BM/SV/MM is a total disaster, and we don’t mean in terms of DPS; we mean Concept. We shall go into this in great detail in the next BRK Podcast. Maybe someone at Blizz will pay attention.

Do people want Hunter-Guide Movies for Naxx? /ponder

Things we did to switch from BM to SV, besides respec’ing:

* Changed our leggings armor kit from AP/Crit to Sta/Agi.

* That’s it.

Pet we wish we could bring on our 10-man raids, but we have a Boomkin doing mini-armor reduction already: LSD Wasp of Doom.

Pet we wish we could bring regardless of anything: Spirit Beast.

Pet with which we feel most comfortable as an SV: Hobbes, foshizzle.

Pet we’re going to try next: Moth.

Biggest problem with Moth: She doesn’t autocast her Dust spell unless her health diminishes greatly. We want that spell to proc every sixty seconds, so it looks like it’s getting macro’d.

Besides shot-rotation study, thing we’ve worked on the most for our spec-switch: Our UI and getting Khartus Hunter Timers to fit prettily with MikScrollingBattleText and our new action bar placement.

Besides shot-rotation study, thing we’re most proud of accomplishing during our spec-switch: Getting MikScrollingBattleText to audibly alert us when Lock and Load procs.

Mrs. BRK is going a trip for job interviews. New England. We shall be unwatched by our furious, redheaded taskmaster for practically an entire week. Let the ’09 BRK Kitchen-Pass List begin!

Note to BRK: Stop forgetting to give me titles. <3, TJ

    Yes.

Also, be sure to drink your Ovaltine.

  4. Twevo on January 28th, 2009 1:08 pm

BRK I’d take a Hunter Guide Movie on how to make canned soup, they entertain me so.

And with the influx of “college” money from the government, I can finally get a shirt! Yay Spirit Beast!

A cat or raptor without some sort of bleed magnification (arms warrior or feral druid) is about the same as a wasp whose sting is being overwritten. With said buff, however, they pull significantly ahead. If there’s no other minor armor debuff though, I believe the wasp will bring more DPS overall than a buffed cat or raptor, however it’s raid dps, not personal dps.

  6. Yeffertone on January 28th, 2009 1:13 pm

I did a similar UI set up to yours using dominoes. Big buttons front and center to watch my shot cd’s. I have Karthus’ hunter timers placed right above those buttons. The key to making it work is having KHT populate the list growing up instead of down. I’ll try and post a pic of my UI later.

Oh and naxx guide movies would be fun. I wanna see brk dance and pop off explosives at the same time.

  7. Berg on January 28th, 2009 1:14 pm

As always. Lookin’ forward to your next podcast and also your moth impressions. Hard to get a bead on ya. Which I love. Your a true teacher through your own trial and error. And your encouragement for all of us to do the same. Hats off, sir.

  8. Teaakius on January 28th, 2009 1:14 pm

Most the fights don’t need a guide…Maybe Gluth if your raid makes you do the kiting, as that’s a video I haven’t seen anywhere for hunters (and well..most raids prefer me to stay on Gluth and just lay traps to help the poor soul who’s getting killed by Zombies.

DPSing thru Heigan’s dance phase…if you’re any good at that.

Tricks to maxing your abilities as a Hunter in the Gothik fight (remember to put your pet on passive, or your pet will run off across the room trying to defend you on defensive, but then you’ll have to manually sic your pet on everything and that’s a pita).

Pet management on Saph or KT…Blizzards will kill your pet, and so will tail swipes if your pet decides to get behind Saph. Void Zones on KT = sucky…your pet will -always- position himself on the opposite side of KT so you can’t see if he’s in one…dumb kitties.

Did I miss where you told us how to make lock’n'load make a sound? I didn’t see that.

  12. Klinderas on January 28th, 2009 1:26 pm

If there’s one thing I enjoy about being a Hunter, it’s that our gear hardly changes at all. You could go from one spec to another and still do pretty well.

It’s unfortunate you don’t like raptors, as they are pretty cool form what I’ve heard. I just wish I had another stable slot…

  13. Noah on January 28th, 2009 1:33 pm

Any chance of a configuration how-to on MSBT akin to the one you did for SCT/SCTD?

I’d futz around with Miks but I always get impatient glares from my S/O when I’m futzing and she wants to quest. And that’s most of the time… I need an expedient how-to guide!

As for the large lack of gear swapping going from BM to SV, how were you gemmed/enchanted as BM? I’d assume with AP rather than AGI, but doesn’t SV scale a heck of a lot better of AGI than AP?

  14. Shagrat on January 28th, 2009 1:46 pm

Noah-BRK has always been a fan of balance so I believe he was gemmed for agility. That might have changed but judging the only thing he changed gearwise going to SV was his leg enchant. (Yay for leathworking and our cheap epic armor kits)

  15. slider on January 28th, 2009 1:49 pm

agreed….a short guide on how you set up your MSBT would be great….kinda of like what you did with SCT/SCTD. I cant for some reason get the crits to show up below my body like you have it…thanks!

  16. Bluefade on January 28th, 2009 2:02 pm

Glad to hear you are going to talk (and hopefully write) about the wierdness that is hunter specs. I was thinking about it this morning.

What you would think from the names:
BM – 2 words, Killer Pet. Specialize in training your pet to do max damage.
MM – Uber ranged weapon damage. Pet is just something to /pat between pulls
SV – The cockroach, impossible to kill and expert in avoiding damage. Trapping / Kiting / and using a pet to distract an enemy from you.

Doesn’t seem to fit that picture now does it?

  17. Driizzt and Wyvar of Shandris on January 28th, 2009 2:03 pm

Hunter guide on Heigan would be great! I’m horrible at it. I managed to die twice… in the same fight. Not sure why I got the brez, thankies from me to my “veritable forest” of healers, as a guildie so eloquently put it.

Also, maybe a guide to your left and right. Yes, I’m talking to all of you who have to hold their hands up in L’s to figure out which way to go on + and -. /glare

For those of you with MSBT issues, I found a very helpful tutorial, I’ll try to find the link. Try googling it and you should be able to find what you need.

  19. Confalone on January 28th, 2009 2:08 pm

I would LOVE a guide movie for Naxx! But Saph more than naxx in general!

  20. Driizzt and Wyvar of Shandris on January 28th, 2009 2:46 pm

Tip for Sapphiron: If your pet is getting hit by Tail swipe, blizzard, etc. Tap passive ctrl+3 then resend it in. I noticed my Devilsaur would reposition himself to avoid the damage. The same applies for Kel’s void zones and most other pet unfriendly, awkward aoe’s (Four Horsemen, Grobbulus, etc.) Also, make sure that your pet is specced into avoidance. My pet was just eating Sapph’s breath.

  21. Fuzzy Porcupine Paws on January 28th, 2009 2:56 pm

Spec problems? I just resubbed to wow today and I’d like to hear about the experiment as my hunter needs some much needed love.

  22. Jayette on January 28th, 2009 3:00 pm

The Moth cooldown is 1 minute… which is the same as Kill Command. Coincidence? I think not!

Also, when you do your testing, I’d suggest doing it in a raid environment w/ the appropriate AP buffs.

    Moths 4 life!

  23. Pernicies on January 28th, 2009 3:12 pm

Just a comment on setting up audible alerts…

There’s a mod available from Curse called “Death Knight Alert” that plays an mp3 when certain procs happen.

The Addon is pretty easy to change by modifying the if…then statements in the dkalert.lua file to match the name of the buff effect from other procs. All of the sound files are also stored along with the mod in the AddOn folder and they can be replaced or new ones added.

I haven’t tinkered with MikScrollingBattleText, but if the setup is a pain then this might be worth considering as an alternative for audible alerts. Being able to add your own .mp3 files can be a lot of fun.

    Cheers.
    Pern

  29. Teaakius on January 28th, 2009 5:21 pm

Thanks for the link Bluefade…that’s the first video where I’ve seen Gluth kited from a hunter perspective…and 10 man id fairly easy to kite, in my experience…

However, that video isn’t really a “Guide” as there’s no instruction givin’ with the video…”this is what I’m doing, notice how I’m using the traps this way, not the other way, etc etc etc”…that’s more what I’m looking for.

Even though Survival prioritizes Agility, the Icescale legarmor is still far superior to the one with Agility. The main focus of that enchant is the Stam and it’s intended for tanks.

    75 AP > 22 Agi
    Even as Survival

  33. Eoleo on January 28th, 2009 6:28 pm

I think an SV Naxx hunter guide would be a wonderful idea. That would clear up a little confusion on what the heck we’re supposed to do with this thing. I swear, switching specs makes me feel like i just grew a third arm. Yeah, it may seem cool at first, but really, you’re just going to look like an idiot until people watch you juggle… er… bad analogy?

BM/SV/MM is a total disaster, and we don’t mean in terms of DPS; we mean Concept. We shall go into this in great detail in the next BRK Podcast. Maybe someone at Blizz will pay attention.

I await your podcast with impatience to hear your views. If I had known nothing about the World of WarCraft, looking at the names of each hunter school would have made me think that:
    • Beastmasters will focus on having more powerful and more intelligent beast companions (accessing hidden skills in their pets) with the capability to tame their own mounts.
    • Marksmen will be the masters of accuracy, long range sniping and greater arsenal of special shots at their disposal.
    • Survivalists will be unparalleled in their ability to find their prey, track them down, blend into their surroundings to escape detection, and kill their prey from the shadows.

Instead we have identity crises with survivalists with sniper training and special OP shots, marksmen with the ability to give more focus to their pets, and the ability to fire quickly amongst the beastmasters.

Yes, I await your enlightening views with impatience and with the fond hope that one of the Devas will realize this.

Spam filter ate the comment grrrrr, however, to paraphrase. I’m not a Hunter but I dreamt about finding Loque last night and gave out his co-ords in chat for any hunters who wanted to tame him. Wonder how many BMs there are left on my server?

Go listen to Radar Love… as in Radar Love by the band Golden Earring?

  46. Ranger on January 29th, 2009 7:05 am

    @ Mech

ShotProc is the sound add on I use. It makes the sound of a Shotgun chambering a round everytime LnL procs. Very discernable. I play with Game sound all off so I can hear vent clearly during raids. 1 to many IED’s leads to not hearing crap through clutter of voices and game sounds. ShotProc is the only sound I hear aside from Raid Leaders on vent. Install then go in game and type /shotproc on. That simple. If you are a computer savvy guy or gal, you can swap out MP3 files to make it sound like whatever you want. I however am not, so a shotgun chambering a round is what I have.

    4. BM for-ever!

  49. Torgall on January 29th, 2009 11:16 am

Ærynn, I love your breakdown, let’s shift everything you mentioned over to the left one tree. BM gets Go for the Throat, MM gets Explosive Shot, SV gets Serpent Swiftness.

As Marks myself, I’d drool with Chimera and Explosive! :p

  50. JT on January 29th, 2009 12:02 pm

For those interested in adding triggers for Lock and Load to scrolling text, here are a few options.

    MikScrollingBattleText:
Add a trigger with the following condition:
    Aura Application:
Skill Name – Is Equal To – Lock and Load
Recipient Unit Affiliation – Is Equal To – You
