No more 1000s of bullets?!?!?! Like, whoa n stuff!!!

2. Tendrax on February 6th, 2009 12:14 am

“Consumable ammunition has been removed from the game. Arrows and bullets no longer stack, but are not consumed. Ranged attack speed bonus gained from quivers and ammo bags will be preserved in a different capacity.”

I have no words to describe the pure unadulterated joy I feel right now.

3. miggedymike on February 6th, 2009 12:17 am

no more bullets? does this make the hunter/engineer not nearly as much fun? I can’t make the best bullets in wow anymore? Am I overreacting to a change not instituted yet? Now I know why BRK said no midnite posting :)

4. Vish on February 6th, 2009 12:20 am

I would guess that you make one bullet that lasts forever. The 15% speed increase would be implemented somewhere, perhaps trainable passive, perhaps into the bullets. I doubt they would put an extra 15% speed into all 3 trees. Even in 1 tree would be silly as hunters would find it a mandatory talent.

5. Omega on February 6th, 2009 12:25 am

Nice list of changes….lets hope the BM unnerfs are done soon also.

6. Molinu on February 6th, 2009 12:27 am

… bugger. And I was making a mint selling Saronite Arrow Makers. Still, I have to admit that getting reloads was a chore.

I wonder what they mean by ‘trap functionality’. Thrown immolation traps?

Rebuffed BM will be nice, but I’m sticking with Surv.

Sniper Training change looks pretty sweet. Might make trap-dancing less attractive, though.

Piercing Shots looks sweet, but no way I’m going deep enough into MM to grab it.

Passive Bonus to Hunting Party looks interesting. I currently only take one point in it, wonder if I’ll need to adjust a bit.

That’s all the insight I’ve got in me this late. I’ll save the freakout for tomorrow.

7. clra2 on February 6th, 2009 12:31 am

a new tier of hunter pet talents? i hope to respec back in BM soon!

but consumable ammo is to be removed? wouldnt that completely change the dynamics of ammo/quiver pouches? /cry at all the money i spent on arrows/bullets…

8. Aggregate on February 6th, 2009 12:38 am

And another reason to drop engineering and take up leatherworking.

*sigh*

9. Rilgon Arcsinh on February 6th, 2009 12:46 am

Even in 1 tree would be silly as hunters would find it a mandatory talent.

…but it already exists. :P

And while it’s a shame they didn’t take my advice and turn Beast Mastery into Master Demonologist v2.0, it’s still a great change (the new 6th-tier pet abilities). Good news all around!

10. Sele on February 6th, 2009 1:06 am

oo me like the new sniper training :)

11. Sele on February 6th, 2009 1:07 am

and omg about the ammunition … no more hundreds of ammo in our bags wasting space!

12. Asahunt on February 6th, 2009 1:26 am

We get an extra bag space?!!?!?

BRK needs to make a Facebook sub-group ish thingy called “Back in my day, we had to restock our ammo”
or something of the like.

13. Stang on February 6th, 2009 1:47 am

…YEEEEEAH! WOO HOO! Blizz did something ridiculously awesome for once! WTB 3.1… Nngh. Now I’m antsy, damnit! Can’t wait.

14. eeky on February 6th, 2009 2:03 am

In the words of the greatest Hunter that ever shouldered a firearm, Elmer Fudd:

“No mow Buwets.”

Woot, I have space for that new Gucci handbag!

15. Rekelectric on February 6th, 2009 2:08 am

And it makes the game even more boring again.
Too easy. I play a ele shaman for main, and they are screwing over my totems.
Now they are taking out the ammo as well for hunters?
What’s next? Bot’s are allowed through the EULA and others terms we agree on?
Bah!

16. Allarr on February 6th, 2009 2:09 am

Tomorrow, GC will post in the hunter forums:

“Rather than implement the 15% haste elsewhere, we have decided to keep the haste on quivers and ammo pouches. You just can’t put anything in them. We decided that having five actual bag slots was overpowered and game-breaking for the hunter class.”

17. Klinderas on February 6th, 2009 2:11 am

All in all, good stuff.

Most of it is going to change though, particularly the changes to Piercing Shots. That’s way to OP. My guess is that the damage is going down to 15% and there will be a 30-45 second cooldown on the ability.

In any case, here’s hoping that the fire alarm shuts off so I can get some sleep.

18. Anonymous on February 6th, 2009 2:17 am
Consumable ammunition has been removed from the game.
Warlocks are going to throw a fit.
We were their brothers in arms over Ammo/Soul Shards.

We got what we’ve been banging on about ever since WoW came out.
They haven’t.
=/

19. Arukusanagi on February 6th, 2009 2:21 am

Ugh… That new Sniper Training is terrible. Now trap dancing is going to be mandatory, it seems.

20. Nimal on February 6th, 2009 2:22 am

Aha, that’s what you’re president meant when he said: “It’s time for change!” :P
I only hope one of the new pettalents will be an automatic defense mechanism to wear of crazy jealous locks. :S

21. Sele on February 6th, 2009 2:26 am

Now that I think about it “After standing still for 6 sec, you gain a 2/4/6% damage bonus to Steady, Aimed and Explosive Shot.” may not be that great at all .. sounds more of a nerf. Bc alot of fights you do move around and we are losing the xtra 15% chance kill shot will crit. Yea this def. sounds like a nerf than a bonus : /

22. Wolfwarior on February 6th, 2009 2:38 am

Uh, can’t say I’m really happy bout that removal of arrows…they didn’t cost that terribly much, and ye, it will get kinda more boring without them. One of the things I liked about WoW when I started playing it was the care they put into small things, to make you have a feel you are actually in some kind of a world rather than just a computer game, Bah.

However, yes I believe we hunters are in a bit of disadvantage when it comes to bags. I believe it would be a cooler idea to make a special slot for ammunition, something like that keychane. That way they make hunters happy, for we have one extra bag slot. They make engineers happy, for their profession doesnt loose purpose. And they don’t deprive the game of it’s charm by giving you one arrow that you can shoot over and over again…

23. Sele on February 6th, 2009 2:45 am

I just feel bad for locks .. hope bliz does something similar with their soul shards or we will hear a whole lot of complaints.

24. Phyllixia on February 6th, 2009 3:07 am

Don’t know where Blizz is going with these changes, they seem really random. Some changes are great, Sniper Training not, but overall I’m just confused with what Blizz is trying to achieve here.

25. The Elitist Jerk on February 6th, 2009 3:30 am

@Sele

Extra crit on a 15s cooldown shot which is usable in the sub-20% range opposed to a 6% extra damage to:
1) Your most frequently fired shot, period, EOD
2) Your most damaging shot as SV.

Given this data, the only problem I have with this talent is stupid fights that require you to move alot, e.g. sartharion+3, thaddius.

26. Eresin on February 6th, 2009 3:44 am

I am in two minds about the Sniper training thing. I mean you can’t always go more than 30 yards at the moment which can render it useless at times. But at the same time standing still for 6 seconds will be tough in some fights which would have the same useless effect.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

27. Doc Kro on February 6th, 2009 3:51 am

How can you guys complain about them removing consumable ammunition?! Farming for hours for Saronite Arrows is NOT fun.

It’ll also give us a new piece of gear to find. Part of the fun of this game, for me, is chasing gear, especially in farmable content, like heroics.

I welcome this change, with open arms.

P.S. This also means we won’t have to worry about Huntards running out of ammo, half way through a raid/instance.

28. Jaeg and KT on February 6th, 2009 4:34 am

I don’t farm for hours to get Saronite arrows.

I go to AH and spend some of my dailies gold to buy bars and have an Engineer in my guild make them for me.

:/

I think doing away with ammo and quivers/ammo pouches takes something away from the game.

And I’ve never really had bag management problems with my hunter. Buying the biggest bags you can (or having your friendly tailor make them for you from all the cloth you gather) is one of the keys to making money in the game.

My Druid, who used to have to carry three sets of clothes, has much more severe bag management problems.

29. Kitsunebi on February 6th, 2009 4:53 am

The only way the ammo thing will work is if they make them like thrown wepons I think. I posted on the dmg roll forums about how I think ammo should be handled. If the make ammo like thrown weps they should give us a lot of difent ones to choose from like ice, fire, nature and unholy all adding some binifit for ice a slow, fire extra damage and for unholy + dmg to undead. Somthing along those lines and have eng be able to craft them.

For the ammo pouch or quiver make the haste a trainable skill or make it like the key ring and just be able to put all types if ammo there and be able to upgrade it with the LW quivers and ammo pouches.

The other changes are promising but I want to see all changes before I decide on that.

30. Zack on February 6th, 2009 5:41 am

I predict bullet can be an loot item in dungeon/raid

31. Gyir on February 6th, 2009 5:55 am

Maybe they should replace arrows with Quivers. Put the Quiver in your ammo slot rather than a bag slot, “repair” it to refill it. That way you still have the illusion of buying arrows.

Or they could just borrow a page from good old EQ and create a talent called “Endless Quiver” and after you get that, you don’t need to use your quiver anymore. Say it bestows 15% ranged haste and you shoot magical bolts, imbued with the properties of the arrow you have in your ammo slot.

I agree they should make different types of arrows, that’d be cool. Flaming, Freezing, Plagued, ahh now that would be cool.

Still, call me crazy but I think I shall miss buying ammo.

32. Kitsunebi on February 6th, 2009 6:32 am

yeah it will take some of the realness from the game not buying ammo and I will miss it a little. I like the idea of the quiver as a in slot item, for the arrows/ buletts the could be able to add an arrow type sorta like gems, but be able to switch at any time. That might work a bit better and reparing the quiver would be fine. I really do hope for more types of ammunition.

33. Procrastinator on February 6th, 2009 6:53 am

How realistic is it for one guy to be able to carry several thousand arrows at a time around with him?

and extra bag slot has got to be good news…we’ve left realism a ways back anyway

34. Willowhisper on February 6th, 2009 8:05 am

As far as the 15% attack speed bonus from quivers goes, perhaps they’re going to make arrows something like thrown weapons, off-hands, and/or librams that have stats on them themselves, such as the 15% attack speed bonus that we’re used to from Quivers?

It could do the durability thing that thrown weapons do, and have stat bonuses like the attack speed. It would then open up the doorway to have different types of specialized ammo like people have suggested. Ammo that has some sort of elemental component. Or ammo that has greater effect against some enemies like demons, undead, etc.

35. Doc Kro on February 6th, 2009 8:27 am
I don’t farm for hours to get Saronite arrows.

:/
Okay, I do. In about an hour of farming in Icecrown, grants me roughly 6-8 Saronite Arrow Makers. Generally, I would guess that I go through, about, 16 arrow makers a week, and I don’t even raid on my hunter.

Nobody could carry around 4000+ bullets or arrows, in real life. So, there goes your realism.

36. Boomstick on February 6th, 2009 8:35 am

37. Doc Kro on February 6th, 2009 8:41 am

Apparently, I don’t know the appropriate actions, to quote people…

You get the idea.

38. Vulpinor on February 6th, 2009 8:50 am

This removal of bullets kinda makes Thori’dal seem a little less legendary. Too bad she didn’t have more time in the sun.

39. Hrothar on February 6th, 2009 8:57 am

Will we be getting our bullit money refunded?

that would be a nice chunk of gold, might even start a Mammoth farm

40. SmackHim on February 6th, 2009 9:19 am

It’s a nerf to the ENGINEER. So when are they buffing ENG?

Gah!

So in my arrow slot. I have the never ending arrow. I now hope that they make us all sorts of fun little arrows to swap in/out. Sure there will or should be the standard arrows.

I also think that their should be some rep arrows…

Exaulted with Faction X? (You can buy a xxxDPS arrow that has a 10% chance to stun)

Exaulted with Faction Y (You can buy a xxxDPS arrow that has a 10% chance to poison)

Add then some epic instance drops.

Nax25 man – Fire Arrow – Reduces targets armor by X and burns the target for % of damage or whatever.

Would really make me happy..

And add some Epic ENG patterns also to help make them feel wanted again.

41. Terran on February 6th, 2009 9:49 am

Talk about getting the short end of the stick. I see plenty of love for MM and SV, but where’s that long awaited BM buff at? We get a new tier of pet talents? Oh great, that’s going to leave us even more at the mercy of Blizzard and their penchant for Bm-unfriendly and overal downright clunky boss mechanics e.g. Saph, Sarth and Malygos.

What I’m seeing here is MM and SV getting a direct DPS boost through their talents and shots, while BM gets the shaft again with an arguably useless buff which still requires them to pick up their 51-point talent. A talent which currently pretty useless. Oh sure, you get 4 extra pet talents points. But every BM hunters knows you can already get all the best DPS pet talents without having to have those extra 4 points. And unless you’re one of those hunters that feels the urge to compensate or just likes going a big rubbery one over their Devilsaur or Spirit Beast, there’s really no point in getting Beast Mastery anyway.

And at the end of the day BM is still bottom of the barrel. Except now we’ll have pets with fancy new abilities to keep us company down there. Pets that are still bugged all to hell, by the way. GG Blizz, GG

42. Sala on February 6th, 2009 9:52 am

“I just feel bad for locks .. hope bliz does something similar with their soul shards or we will hear a whole lot of complaints.”

Never fear! We got something too! (Not that I ever complained about either system).

“Drain Soul now has a chance to produce Soul Shards even if the target doesn’t die. “

43. kunukia on February 6th, 2009 9:59 am

Yes, this is a nerf to engineers gold making potential, or in my case Guild Karma.
Every morning, my engineer checks the guild vault, and makes enough level 62 and 72 ammo, both arrows and bullets for the whole guild. This has been HUGELY satisfying. Better than gold, more long-lasting than making someone a Nessingway 4000. That said…having the extra bag space will be awesome.

44. Doc Kro on February 6th, 2009 10:03 am

Chances are, Engineers will still be making ammunition. It just won’t be a never ending stream of definite income, like it could be considered now.

45. Reckie on February 6th, 2009 10:19 am

How is the Eng arrows a never ending stream of definite income? The ore to make them usally sells for more than the arrows itself. :) Blizzard is step by step taking away the feeling with the game and making it easy. You dont have to train certain pets to learn their skills, you dont have to have food for your pet, you dont have to level it very far.

I agree that some of these changes were good but all in all its just getting too easy. If you can’t or don’t want to put effort into the game why would you expect to have the same benefits like someone who did? I know why Blizzard does, for the money. Eventually this will bite back and their cash cow will die.

46. SmackHim on February 6th, 2009 10:24 am

WTS: “CHEAP” Everlasting Arrow of Barbed Poison “Best in game – only one on server” Be all you can be… only 2500g.

AND about everlasting income…

a stack of Saronite bars 35-45 Gold on my server.

Arrows cost 12 bars to make.

Resell the Arrow Maker from 50-75 Gold. Even more people are unstacking the arrows and selling stacks of 200 from 7-10 Gold

Hello? This is a money maker.

3 stacks of Saronite yields 6 Boxes of arrows. (50×6)-(3×40)= 180G profit. And that my friend is simple..

47. Papaoomowmow on February 6th, 2009 10:46 am

Devils in the details with the new pet talent tier. As always, we’ll see.

I have a strong hunch that my cat already got a hotfix boost. (I am a beastmaster holdout).

Was bored enough to solo Crypts last night. Ultra low level mobs of course,so no big deal.

Usually, for me anyway, a mid 60s instance solo is pretty tedious and requires combat use of potions once in awhile. ( I was looking for something silly to put me to sleep.)

But last night Crypts was an amazingly quick walk in the park. Did not need a single potion. Just replenished mana and used bandages after each skirmish, and the mini battles did not last long.

The ease really seemed to spring from cat damage….Geronimo was kicking!

So maybe. Just maybe….

48. Feandar The Huntard on February 6th, 2009 10:55 am

Why does Blizzard keep dummying down this game? If they keep up this direction they will I’m afraid end up like some of their predecessors. Your spec should not determine your DPS output, you should be able to DPS equally in any spec, and if your a hybrid biased class such as Warriors, Pallys, Priest, Shammy you should not be able to out DPS pure Classes like Hunters, Mage, Warlock, Rogue. If you PVP against one they should be able to win sole being able to outlast us via heals or armor bonus. When I raid and I see Pally topping the chart in DPS then something is wrong. As for Death Knights don’t even get me started on that class. I’m trying real hard to try and figure out what exactly Blizzard is trying to do, but all I see is they seem to cave into the class that complains the most.

49. Coka on February 6th, 2009 11:05 am

“Sniper Training – this talent has been changed. After standing still for 6 sec, you gain a 2/4/6% damage bonus to Steady, Aimed and Explosive Shot.”

reminds me the day hunter uses FOCUS.

50. fearstalker on February 6th, 2009 11:36 am

3.1, the day engineering died…. (I have two toons that are engineers, and once 3.1 hits, assuming I have upgrades from the goggles, engineering ceases to be useful. The likely won’t add goggle upgrades, and enchants are always better than the engineering options to add to an item. Plus it’s too easy to get eternals now, and no more crafting ammunition. The only way to save engineering would be to make the ammunition items crafted by engineers, but that still would be a one-time thing like scopes).

51. Watermist on February 6th, 2009 12:08 pm

I won’t comment on the ammuntion out of fear of the two extreme sides’ opinions. ;)

But… Piercing Shots? /drools big time

Yes, Piercing Shots seems a bit OP, and I’m perfectly fine if they reduce the damage from 20% to say, 15% (as long as it’s not under 10%), but MAN! /resumes drooling

I can’t wait!! :D

52. Kamendur on February 6th, 2009 12:14 pm

We could see timed arrows/bullets…
This mammoth cutter expires in 1 day… 10 minutes etc.
Bag space would be nice.

53. Silvermist on February 6th, 2009 12:23 pm

WHOAAAAAAAAAAAA HOLD ON JUST A MINUTE. So now we have to get bullets or arrows as a single drop from an instance? Does this mean there will be more variety in ammunition to pick from? And less tedium in spending endless amounts of gold on ammunition? WoW is finally going to improve on something from Horizons: Empire of Istaria? O.o

I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE EXTRA BAG SLOT ON MY CHARACTER!!!!!!!!!!

Hey!! Some Hunter Love!! First Rounds’ on me Boys!!!

57. Kheldul on February 6th, 2009 1:27 pm

There’s plenty of room for disappointment. Just wait.

In the meanwhile, I hear a lot of hunters have decided to become untalented, dropping to a 0/0/0 spec in a sign of protest.

I can understand the feeling. The amount of change and feeling of persecution after working gathering and preparing and just getting slammed on the head instead of a feeling of progress. It is very tempting — and mature — to put your hunters on hiatus.

I seem to still be able to significantly contribute to raids so I’m still probably a straw away from breaking my back.

58. RJK on February 6th, 2009 1:28 pm

I think I spent the day yesterday whispering SV hunters…did you know you got nerfed this week? hehe JK

59. elstor on February 6th, 2009 1:54 pm

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s all I have to say about no more ammo (Free bag space, yes?)

60. Terran on February 6th, 2009 2:25 pm

@krk

If you would, please consider the fact that pets are an integral part of a BM hunter, both in the talents they choose and DPS they do. Any hunter can tell you the number of ways in which hunter pets have been glitched to hell. Pet abilities that randomly turn on and off, or won’t even work at all, pet ability bars that disappear in the middle of boss fights… the list goes on.

Most hunters wouldn’t argue the point so strongly but when you play a spec that relies so heavily on a pet, that when said pet dies due to one of a number of different clunky boss mechanics, and you end up losing a huge chunk of your DPS, you tend to be a little more annoyed at the lack of bug fixes. Bugs that have been well known throughout the hunter community and documented by Blizzard since way before 3.0.8, since before WotLK even.

Blizz should perhaps spend a little more time fixing the problems that already exist, instead of throwing us this whole “no more ammo” thing in the hopes it’ll distract everyone long even for them to forgot what’s really going in. Seems very much like taking the dirt from one hole to fill in another.

61. uhhclem on February 6th, 2009 3:11 pm

Hey Bliz, since hunters have always spent the most money per raid when you add the cost of ammo + repairs I think that the least you can do is change that 28 slot ammo bag into a 28 slot pack! And send me a coupon for a traveler’s tundra mammoth from spending 100g a week on ammo for at least the past year.

62. Joe on February 6th, 2009 3:14 pm

No ammo sounds REALLY good, save a lot of money. Maybe the Ammo boxes for engineers will turn into a craftable type of Ammo, so the mats may go up, but so will the price you sell them for? Warlocks, since this is a ‘what coming maybe’ post from Blizzard, maybe you will lose the soul stones bag, they have already started working on changes to locks like the summoning stones.

As for the damage etc., that will work out in the end, it always does.

No ammo – WOOT!

63. Marauder on February 6th, 2009 3:47 pm

Great!!! Now Blizzard just put the final nail in theur coffer… If this is realised.. I finally have a good reason to leave.
WOTLK tier gear for everyone!! dont worry guysm every noob can have good gear you dont have to fight for anything anymore…woot=( FFS blizzard!

64. Kaleanon on February 6th, 2009 4:11 pm

@Marauder:

… WTH are you smoking, and can I have some? Because you’re posting from la-la land. Where does it even BEGIN to say you don’t have to fight for tier gear? Did your rant get lost on its way out?

65. Silvermist on February 6th, 2009 4:21 pm

@Marauder:

Actually it seems to me things will become even MORE competitive for gear because not only are we competing with all melee classes for melee weapons (including druids) we’re also competing with all the non-caster classes for ammunition.

66. homegrownstrawberries on February 6th, 2009 4:32 pm

You know I thought The Husband would be really excited about the ammunition change I mean he frequently says that, “Hunters are the only class that is completely useless with out a reagent.” But he looked at it in the shocked disbelief of someone who was just told that some one they knew was murdered. Maybe its just because it was so late…

67. Anonyie on February 6th, 2009 4:39 pm

Holy crap? I’ll ACTUALLY HAVE a 5TH BAG?!

68. Silvermist on February 6th, 2009 4:46 pm

@Anonyie

I KNOW IT’S SO WEIRD ISN’T IT?!!! WHAT DO I DO WITH IT?

69. Weezoh on February 6th, 2009 4:53 pm

No more quivers – hunters will receive their speed bonuses in the form of a “Shirt Pocket” this is an sort of armor kit for the chest slot made by Taylors. This shirt-pocket will contain the hunters’ one bullet. In addition, all hunters will be renamed “Barney” or “Barn.”

Bye!

Why would Blizz drive nails into their vast coffers?

I guess I’ll throw in my two cents here even though noone prolly cares.
First off I got to admit im stoked about this change. Im also a bit surprised as well. Now i do understand why engineers may be upset. They just lost their biggest money maker. If you are a hunter engineer I do expect though that you will be happy when the Mammoth Cutters will be replaced by some epic BOE ammunition that is raid quality.
@Terran, I don’t quite follow your logic on how they are not buffing BM with the release of another pet talent tier. I bet that the new tier will contain some really impressive talents that you can only pick up thru the 51 pt BM talent. I think that it was an very clever way for Blizz to buff BM pets while not reworking the entire 51 pt talent. Also just remember these are just a HANDFUL of the many changes coming our way in 3.1. We already know of the serpents swiftness buff as hinted by GC. Overall I definitely see things going a whole lot better for every tree for hunters. I can’t believe I’m saying this but they actually may pull balancing all 3 trees as equal off.

I love that they are buffing BM by adding a 6th tier to the pet talents. Think about what this means:

Instead of changing our top-end talent(s) giving us a single fixed choice, the extra BM 51 pet skills give us increased flexibility across our stable of pets. It’s kinda like a mini dual-spec option. Sorta. :)

you’all noticed that 3.1 is going to be a massive buff for blood dk’s? The punt to second class dps is about to be complete.

New saying-

When I was your age, ammo was consumed.

I will keep my fifth bag empty just in case they change their minds….

At no point in the post does it say that ammo will start dropping in instances, only that it wont stack and wont be consumed. Anything else is just rampant speculation, get a grip people. Some good changes in this coming patch so lets stop all the QQ.
