legolasMeatloaf Plays a Hunter

And I would do anything for loot, I’d run right into Naxx and back

I would do anything for loot, I’ll ninja from you and that’s a fact

But I’ll never forget the way you healed me now, oh no, no way

And I would do anything for loot, but I won’t sporebat, I won’t sporebat

Anything for loot, oh I would do anything for loot

I would do anything for loot, but I won’t sporebat, oh I won’t sporebat

BRK’s Top Ten Reasons Why the Proposed Ulduar Vehicles Both Suck and Blow.

10. Due to clean-air regulations, all the servers have their own emission standards. A motorcycle on one realm will not have the same performance as a vehicle on another.
9. Likewise, non-standard fuel mixtures across realms means that when you transfer toons to new servers, your vehicles may run poorly and not do the DPS you’re used to seeing.
8. The same vehicles are used over and over, and nobody ever sprays them down with Lysol. Eww.
7. Do you think Al Unser Jr. could hop of out his Indy car and suddenly play a shaman?
6. Military-only guilds will crush Ulduar in a matter of minutes.
5. Hunter-pets get their own tanks, but they’ll clog all the controls with drool, feathers, hair, and poo-doo.<
4. Sheldon can’t drive; Ulduar will never be seen on Big Bang Theory.
3. The Nobles Deck will buy a trinket that grants extra horsepower and rocket launchers, so the Department of Defense will classify the entire Darkmoon Faire as an exporter of military technology.
2. British citizens will run their vehicles on the wrong side of the instance, raising WoW-insurance rates through the roof.
1. They won’t make a siege vehicle big enough for Baby Rhino!

Best WoW-Blog You’re Probably Not Reading

Greedy Goblin. Blunt and caustic, but not incendiary. He will attacks ideas but not the people who have them. Don’t expect sympathy, but you won’t get yelled at, either. You may not want to delve into the social and psychological underpinnings of why people do what they do in WoW, but at least he’ll make you jealous of his gold.

The Letter to Blizz That Should be Written

Dear Blizz,

Please stop making promises you can’t keep. Don’t tell us about dual-specs until you know you can implement them. Please stop telling us you’ve got something fabulous coming, tell us what it is, then fail to deliver. Fix the major outstanding problems in the game, then talk to us about expansions. Work on the expansions, sure, just shut up about them until Cower/Prowl is working properly.

Don’t sneak stealth-nerfs in the game. Nerf if you must, but don’t do it without tell us. Don’t make us have to search for “undocumented patch notes”. We’re paying for this; tell us how our game functions and when that functionality changes.

If you’re going to invite us on the PTR, accept the fact that some of us actually know what the bleepin’ heck we’re talking about. If you give us tools to test the game, don’t then dismiss those tools as inaccurate gauges of game-play.

The number one issue of almost all players is Lag. We’ll put up with a lot, but Lag is unacceptable. Before anything further patch is deployed, ensure Lag is minimalized. If Lag appears, immediately investigate and fix it promptly. Do not wait for patch-days; take action immediately.

Yours in friendship,

BigRedKitty

Biggest Hunter Misconception Of All Time

Legolas was not a hunter; he was an archer. BJ and the Bear was more of a hunter than Legolas. At least he had a pet!

I’d rather have new content than a Cower bug fix.

I can only assume they’re actively pursuing the bug. The fact that they’ve failed to find it is a bit troubling, sure, but talking about Ulduar doesn’t take the Cower bug off their change management.

This. All of the documentated cases of why BM was possibly being nerfed too much prior to 3.0.8 were discounted out-of-hand. Now, grant you, there was a lot of “noise” to wade through to get to those that were giving out valid data that proved as much. However, to just ignore it as more “disgruntled hunter babble”? C’mon….

  14. Grindurbonze on February 18th, 2009 3:05 pm

I appreciate what’s going on here. I’m experiencing something similar. Basically approaching the conclusion that Blizzard is putting out a bad product, particularly with respect to a toon I’ve invested ridiculous amounts of time in.

This isn’t about hunter crying over lost DPS prowess, this is about 3-4 months of paying a subscription for a lackluster product.

  15. Torgall on February 18th, 2009 3:14 pm

Dear Mr. BRK, please send the letter!

Seriously, the whole, “We’re nerfing hunters… test it for us… if it’s too much will change it prior to going live.”

    “Uh… it’s too much.”

“No can hear… enjoy your nerf!… Oh we should have listened, you were right after all, here’s a band-aid.”

They should have never asked for our help to begin with.

Oh, and IF they ever get around to fixing cower/prowl, can they please fix the mysterious randomly disappearing pet spell bar too?!

    Thanks.

  16. Tzia on February 18th, 2009 3:27 pm

There are times when blunt letters should be and actually -need- to be sent. If you don’t send the letter… who will? And considering what I have seen “suggested” as letters before, that one is polite, direct, and to the point. They won’t listen to the forums, which is actually a minority of players in itself. They might actually listen to those that write and mail them, since that’s an even lesser portion. And how many people are going to take the time to write and mail a letter these days?

“2. British citizens will run their vehicles on the wrong side of the instance, raising WoW-insurance rates through the roof.”

Hmm, us Brits would be a dominant proportion of a EUR Ulduar raid. We may drive on the left, the side that seems oh so demonic to those across the pond, but we’re the majority in comparison to those from The Lesser Nations across the North Seas & English Channel. Rewrite as:
“2. Continental Europeans will drive their vehicles on the wrong side, just like they do every time they pop across on the Eurostar for the better wine on the Dover side.”

    Kind regards,

“7. Do you think Al Unser Jr. could hop out of his Indy car and suddenly play a shaman?”

Yes. Yes he can. Little Al is just that cool. He could also hop out of his Indy car, perform an appendectomy on an Emu, write the #1 love ballad of all time, discover faster-than-light travel, top the dps meters in Heroic Naxx-25 with a resto Druid, and STILL have time to get back in the car and beat Fittipaldi to the line FTW.

…..if Fittipaldi didn’t put him into the wall first, that is. I guess we’ll never really know…..

I talked to a GM about the Cower bug, and he said that it’s probably a problem with VIsta not saving preferences correctly. I’ve started right clicking and choosing “Run as Admin” and I haven’t had a problem since

  46. Hanshotfirst on February 19th, 2009 7:53 am

    @ Burnnate

Your comment makes me want to through on my XP drive and see if that fixes it. It is possible that is the case, after all Vista is “Teh Sux”.

  47. SmackHim on February 19th, 2009 8:27 am

I have Vista and no issues… But then again, i spent some time enhancing it for better performance.

  48. Zubgrub on February 19th, 2009 8:33 am

“It is possible that is the case, after all Vista is “Teh Sux”.”

QFT. If it weren’t for an OEM install it would have been replaced long ago with XP or Linux on my system. I can’t wait to try Burninate’s suggestion.

“I have Vista and no issues…”

Well mate, then you are truely blessed. It is the worst implementation of an OS I’ve ever experienced in my life (and I harken back to the old DOS days of the mid to late 80’s :-P )

  49. Tolkienphile on February 19th, 2009 8:54 am

The cower bug can’t be a Vista issue becauses I’ve experienced it on my Mac.

“I talked to a GM about the Cower bug, and he said that it’s probably a problem with VIsta not saving preferences correctly. I’ve started right clicking and choosing “Run as Admin” and I haven’t had a problem since”

I run on XP and have the cower bug. So it is not that simple.

  51. Noah on February 19th, 2009 9:22 am

Yeah, the Cower bug is not unique to Vista. I’m on XP and my Hunter friends all also on XP have the bug as well.
If the GMs are saying it is a Vista issue that doesn’t bode well for a fix coming as it suggests Blizz are writing it off as being related to the user’s system and not a game issue.

  52. poilbrun on February 19th, 2009 10:34 am

Sorry Dobmeister, but why would British citizens be the majority of an EU Ulduar raid? All continental countries drive on the right. And if you’re talking about the WoW population, I’m not sure there are more British players than all other countries combined. After all, the game is also played in French, German, Russian and Spanish. And you should not mistake the number of English servers with the number of British players: lots of people whose mother tongue is not one of the supported ones play on English servers…

    On the subject at hand:
I agree with most points made, apart from the fact that squashing bugs is higher priority than new content. First, it’s not the same people at Blizzard at work for both, and they need to keep their artists and content designers busy while their programmers look at the bugs. As far as talking to us about it, I don’t agree either: first, I prefer to know about new features early to prepare. Sure, in the case of dual-spec, there’s not a lot of preparing to do, but in general I’m pretty happy with the way they’re handling it. And don’t forget that people who are not affected by bugs would feel rather left out if all Blizzard was talking about was bug solving…

  53. Kestrel on February 19th, 2009 11:10 am

Greedy Goblin doesn’t attack ideas not in consonance with his own; he simply dismisses them (with prejudice). The proponents of those ideas, however (as Gwaendar points out), are definitely (un)fair game.

While our blogs are somewhat of a bully pulpit, some take the “bully” part a bit farther than is necessary in polite society (which is the part of society of which I prefer to be a part).

  54. Leejin on February 19th, 2009 11:23 am

No more Blogs for WoW Insider?? Wow….

BRK’s column was prolly the only reason I browsed that place.

In all honesty BRK, you’re the only one over there that even knew what the heck he was talking about…

Everyone else on there took like 3 months to get to 80, has no idea about raiding or being efficient and knowledgeable about DPS numbers…

New content that doesn’t work is crap. They wasted a huge amount of time on those stupid achievements instead of fixing REAL problems that have been around for years, like that druids can’t start a fight with swipe. You have to be already autoattacking. The now four year old druid range bug. My hunter randomly loses her targeting while autoshooting. My warlock’s pet gets stuck on things if a fight starts when he’s not perfectly perpendicular to the ground, and doesn’t unstick until the fight is over. This is intensely annoying somewhere where half the landscape is vertical… but at least they finally fixed my outrunning my pets, both hunter and warlock, while just walking normally.

It doesn’t matter how pretty it is if you can’t do anything with it.

    BRK, send the letter.

    Kikidas, love the icon.

In reference to BRK’s Top Ten Reasons Why the Proposed Ulduar Vehicles Both Suck and Blow. I will agree with all of this unless they add the new engineering recipe to compliment the choppers :- Gnomish mammoth fur random number generators (ie Fluffy dice). Then Uldar vehicles would rock.
