The Biggest Bork That Ever Borked a Bork

borkedAmmunition: All types of gun and bow ammunition now stack to 1000. All quivers and ammo pouches no longer provide haste. 15% ranged haste is now built in to Hunter Autoshot.

Nice. It’s a new mechanic and we’ll see how it goes.

Call Stabled Pet: This new ability lets the hunter remotely access the stable. 30 min cooldown.

HOLY F-ING SMOKE THIS IS SOOO BORKED!

Watch this!

Er, read this!

You’re toolin’ around and you decide, Hey, I think I’ll use Call Stabled Pet. So you open use the Call Stabled Pet spell, and you get your stable.

You think, Nice, and grab your Gorilladin, putting your Spirit Beast back in.

You don’t close the Stable.

Then you think, Hey, I think I’ll get my Spirit Beast back. So you grab your Spirit Beast out of the still open Stable. He appears and you think, Nice.

Then you notice that you have an empty spot in your Stable. Your Gorilladin… is gone… and you think,

{TEN THOUSAND EXPLETIVES DELETED}

You run your @ss off back to the real Stable Master, and sweet sammy mollassie, Gorilladin is totally, 100%, all gone.

There’s some other new patch notes, read about ‘em here. We’re too verklempt to continue.

Holy cats! Do we know if this happens if you close the stable then re-open it?

  2. Tandaina on February 27th, 2009 7:33 pm

BRK I’m sure you tried this but…

Did you log out and check the stable again? I ran into the exact same thing BEFORE the patch if I tried to switch pets while mounted. (Open stable while mounted, switch pet, change mind and switch back, poof empty slot.)

In my case the pet was always safely back once I logged out and back in.

If that’s not the case, so sorry. Poor Gorilladin.

  3. Mike on February 27th, 2009 7:36 pm

NOOOOOOOOO! I would definately feel a pang of regret

  4. Hesston on February 27th, 2009 7:43 pm

This happened to me too, however. PTR-Gorilladan may not actually be gone, his silly little mug just seems to disappear from the icon. I hovered over the icon I assumed was his and switched them back at the normal stable.

    Hello Gorilla!

Worked for me, but that doesn’t mean it will work for you. PTR bugs, we haz them.

  5. duniness on February 27th, 2009 7:48 pm

My God, can you imagine the wailing if a spirit beast disappeared on live?

  6. Mike on February 27th, 2009 7:50 pm

Thank god it wasn’t your spirit beast…..that would definately ruin your day

  7. duniness on February 27th, 2009 7:51 pm

Arg cannot edit. Definitely not gonna be using this until its “working as intended”.

Of course this will be fixed by the time it hits live….

  8. Dreyja on February 27th, 2009 7:54 pm

NOooooo… Not Gorilladin! If that happened t my glow-kitty someone would get their genitals bit off… by, not my glow-kitty. ;)

  9. Blasterion on February 27th, 2009 7:56 pm

Hey BRK I got my Heartbreak( Cursed offspring of Harkoa) back when I swapped Dual spec u know =)

  10. Wahhh on February 27th, 2009 7:57 pm

15% haste to only AUTO SHOTS?!?!!?!?! Doesn’t that seem like an enormous nerf?!

  11. Gildor on February 27th, 2009 8:16 pm

    Bad Gorilladin. Bad.

I’m guessing all hunters will now have to spay/neuter our pets so we don’t screw up the delicate Azerothian ecosystem? Otherwise D.E.H.T.A. will hunt us down for negligence.

  12. Nadie on February 27th, 2009 8:37 pm

    The same thing happened with my wolf, AppleGore! The first pet I ever tamed ;_;

The strangest thing about it is, when I switch to other pets, the wolf will appear for a moment in the “Pet out of the stable” square, then be replaced by the pet I chose from the stable. Have you seen this as well?

    It’s all very very odd..

  13. Zhire on February 27th, 2009 8:44 pm

The 15% haste really bothers me. >.<

On the subject of pets, I would cry if I lost DarkOy! (Many kudo points to the one who can tell me what the ref. is!)

  14. Foresti on February 27th, 2009 9:01 pm

Sounds like everyone here is experiencing the stable bug that has existed for a looong time. Your pet will appear to be deleted but just a display bug, swap pets around a few times, moving them to active to the empty slot. Eventually, your pet will come out of hiding.

  15. Exze on February 27th, 2009 9:06 pm

if the 15% haste is only to autoshots, it means that marks/survival are going to need around 1000 haste to soft cap (aka its impossible)

this would be a serious, serious nerf.

  16. Alphakhan on February 27th, 2009 9:16 pm

I think the 15% haste still applies to all our abilities, it’s just built into the tooltip of autoshot now.

  17. Allarr on February 27th, 2009 9:22 pm

    BRK:

I’ve had this happen to me on the current live server. Try going to a regular stable master, and switching your pets around a good bit. Just mix ‘em up. Then empty your current pet slot, and try calling pet again. That’s how I managed to fix mine. Apparently, I had *two* pets (one in the slot, and one bugged *hidden* behind it). Weird, but it worked. Give ‘er a try.

Also, I didn’t read any other comment, so my apologies if this has been posted before.

  18. Allarr on February 27th, 2009 9:26 pm

    @ Zhire-

Oy! Oy! Dark Tower, of course. Great series, from what I’ve read. I actually haven’t finished it yet. I got distracted and never picked it back up. Worth it?

  19. Cepanica on February 27th, 2009 10:05 pm

Nice changes for stables and yey xtra bag slot, but but is that new SV nerf?
Explosive Shot: Base damage lowered by 10%. Attack power scaling reduced by 12.5%

  20. Ardwyad on February 27th, 2009 10:18 pm

Second the suggestion about the Gorilla not being gone and just hiding. Ran into this once before too. Try putting a pet in the empty slot.

  21. Kai on February 27th, 2009 10:29 pm

    Spirit Beast is gone.. Gone gone ;.; I tried switching pets, I loged out and back in.. I CAN TAME A NEW PET IN IT’S PLACE! *SOOOOBZ* BAD BLIZZ! I’m going to be so fearful of useing this when it goes live ;.;

  22. guyontheinternet on February 27th, 2009 10:43 pm

@Allarr yeah worth finishing it if you enjoyed any of it. It goes all over the place but overall a great read imho :)

  23. Rilgon Arcsinh on February 27th, 2009 10:59 pm

15% haste to only AUTO SHOTS?!?!!?!?! Doesn’t that seem like an enormous nerf?!

We don’t know if that’s the case or not. I don’t even think that’s implemented on the PTRs yet. I’ll have to test after work.

  24. Anonymous on February 27th, 2009 11:22 pm

    survival is….. gone

  25. Sade on February 27th, 2009 11:53 pm

Okay, really, stop crying prematurely about survival being “gone.” This is the PTR. Do you guys know what the PTR is for? It’s for testing things. Publicly. On a realm that’s separate from the live realms. Things can change DAILY on the PTR, it’s in its nature, and here I see about a half a dozen people acting as though all these things have gone live already.

  26. Truewanderer on February 28th, 2009 12:03 am

Admittedly at first glance survival looks terrible but there are several, what ifs to this situation. As far as my testing earlier today none of these survival changes had taken into effect so its mere theorizing.
    1. Haste on autoshots, I’ve heard this discussed that its just possibly poorly worded and that that 15% haste applies to all shots but comes from autoshots in order to prevent other classes from benefiting from the ranged haste. I doubt blizzard would make it effect just auto shot as this would make BM the absurdly obvious spec of choice.
    2. The Explosive shot nerf seems to be more of a update to the little stealth nerf it received on live. On the PTR base damage was 516 and the scaling was at 16%. A 10% and 12.5% nerf to each leads to a base damage of 464 and 14% scaling which is the same as on live. A nerf from what you might have seen on the ptr sure but shouldn’t affect compared to live.
    3. Viper sting nerf- wow, might be useful to regen mana for MM but it goes from a handy shot in pvp especially to something I’m not certain I’ll use.

Lots of tweaking and testing to go but commenting only on survival the one thing that needs fixed is the Black Arrow LnL proc rate, thats the only real damage nerf that needs fixing. I understand the Wyvern sting and disengage nerfs as hunters just had a little too much utility(I’m sure some will say we still do)in pvp. I encourage you all to get on the ptr and test and retest all the new things, its helpful for blizzard to look at class balance as well as work out the bugs in new abilities and if your fortunate enough new encounters.

  27. Davlin-Hydraxis on February 28th, 2009 12:53 am

sounds to me like PTR troubles. I shant not worry until its patch day.
    –Davlin

  28. Rixx on February 28th, 2009 1:22 am

Sade…um, PTR typically means Blizzard is looking for bugs like the pet stable issue. Most of the time they are set on the skill/ability changes. Take a look at the BM nerf not too long ago…that hit the PTR, everyone said it was too much, and blizzard ignored us and put it on live….people said it was too much, and blizzard ignored us and said we just needed time to get used to it.
Eventually they realized it was too much.
They almost never use the PTR for balancing of skills or classes.

I’m probably overgeneralizing here, but that’s been my observation over several years lol.

  29. Krieghoff on February 28th, 2009 3:27 am

Can you delete the character as it stands from the PTR and recopy him over? Gorilladin would be back, although you’d have to rebuy dual-speccing… but then you’d have your coin back too.

  30. Distance on February 28th, 2009 4:40 am

The exact same thing happened to me… but worse. I transferred over and had my pvp pet on me when i showed up with my guild to test Hodir, so rather than going back to Dalaran I used this shiny new feature to grab my Cat. Or tried to. Instead, it deleted my only lvl 80 dps pet and I tested Hodir all night with a crab. Try explaining THAT one to your raid leader!

  31. Ionutz on February 28th, 2009 5:06 am

BRK, your gorilladin is not gone. It happened to me the same, i got spirit beast out and bam, my cat was gone from the stables. What you need to do is PUT BACK spirit beast in the empty stable slot and KABAM, gorilladin is outside summoned and in the summoned pet slot. Try it!

  32. JUSTO on February 28th, 2009 6:43 am

the 15% haste doesnt only affect auto shot. they are building it INTO our auto shot.

and the explosive shot nerf is really bad.

right now on the ptr BM is king dps. i tested all 3 specs. im fully naxx 25 geared.

MM and SV did around 2600-3000 dps unbuffed. BM did 3700.

  33. Dourd on February 28th, 2009 7:53 am

Dont worry this happened to me several times on PTR.
What you have to do is swap the current pet you have out to the ‘blank’ spot then log out, all your pets are back and fine they are not deleted.

If this does not work, swap the current pet for any other pet, then swap that pet for the ‘deleted’ one you should see all your pets back.

  34. Shagrat on February 28th, 2009 8:02 am

Bork bork bork! The Swedish chef is my favorite muppet.

Hopefully, this is the same as that bug that caused pets to ‘disappear’ when you accessed the stable masters while mounted. Still, the fact that this bug even exists at this point is extremely stupid.

  35. Vronak on February 28th, 2009 9:10 am

    From GC:”
    ——————————————————————————–
    Q u o t e:
Does this mean that steady shot is no longer effected by the haste bonus?
    ——————————————————————————–

No. We just wanted to remove the quiver without losing its haste bonus. Except for inventory changes, you should not notice a difference. ”

  36. Yeffertone on February 28th, 2009 2:12 pm

Another gem from our pal GC:

Yes, we did nerf the damage of Explosive Shot a little more. After many of the changes to locks, DKs, warriors and the rest, we felt SV hunters were too high. MM may still be a little too low. BM seems on target at the moment, but we had a few bugs in new pet abilities especially that was making it hard to get accurate numbers.

I’m not sure what you mean about Survival compexity. Are you talking about the shots themselves or the organization of the tree? I think some players are still thinking they are supposed to trap dance in PvE.

  37. Lori on February 28th, 2009 3:06 pm

This happened to me, too! I freaked out!! I put the pet I had just gotten back in the stable, and there he was! Then I was able to swap him out correctly. Weird.

As far as numbers, all of the trees seem pretty equal at the moment….at least in my testing. :) SV did lag slightly behind, but not by too much. The only spec that really lagged was a hybrid spec I tried for kicks and giggles.

  38. Haarits on February 28th, 2009 3:52 pm

This happened to me on live over a year ago, when I hadn’t bought my last stable slot yet. Somehow my boar left (not Abandoned)) and I tamed a new pet, and noticed the flickering icon on my ‘active’ pet in the stables when swapping it out for my stabled pet. It flickered between the new one and the boar! Bought the 2nd slot, put the new pet in there, closed stables & whistled for pet… and my misplaced pig came back to me! Very bizarre bug.

At least it was only on the PTR, and if it really IS gone then it’s good feedback to give the devs so it doesn’t make it to live… and Sholazar’s still full of 77-ish gorillas, ready to be tamed (and then turned on their friends for leather and Chilled Meat… and a barrel or two). :D

  39. Raven on March 1st, 2009 8:50 pm

I had the same thing happen to me on the PTR. I ended up having to move pets around and do a shuffle a few times and my ghost leopard came back. I think in the end i had to shuffle all my pets in and out including the one i had out and eventually his icon showed up and allowed me to summon. Previously all i got was an error that i did not have a pet available.

  40. Dreyja on March 3rd, 2009 2:06 pm

Ok… I finally get on the PTR and I ever so carefully switch my pets out at a real Stable Master and *poof* Exact same thing happened! By Silithid is missing!!! *cries* I’ve shuffled things around but I am not risking my glow-kittty.

So, BRK did you get this solved? Please reply or blog about it. I want my bug back!

  41. Sylvany on March 3rd, 2009 5:28 pm

    You think this is bad?

    Go to a vendor…

    Open up your Character sheet…

…and swap gear sets in the Gear Manager.

    :D

  42. Nornagest on March 3rd, 2009 6:34 pm

I had the stable problem too, but it worked with some toying around. When I moved the pet I had taken out and placed it on the empty spot it would be shown as my current pet. But I couldn’t summon it, but after moving this pet on some other slot (I usually do it the other way around) it was correctly shown as being in the stable, when I then took it back out I could summon it and everyhting was fine.

I lost my gorilladin on live 3.0.8 just two weeks ago. Switched pets while mounted. On the other hand, I had two devilsaurs instead… GM’s had to tweak the database while I was offline to fix it. Let me tell you that I will never switch pets while mounted again
