moarbork

We’re in SV-mode on the PTR, and our DPS is just not looking right. We pop open the pet spellbook — Blamo! — the pet’s spells that come from talents are not being created in the spellbook. We’re not getting Rabid or Call of the Wild or Charge or anything else.

/sigh

I retrain my pet and pick all my talents again and it work for me

  3. Vishkil on February 28th, 2009 12:58 pm

    I heard about this. It’s a bug.

When you enable something in the options it lets you choose all your talents without accepting them. Then you can make sure you have chosen the right ones before accepting.

However, pet talents are bugged so you can’t accept them. i.e. if this option is enabled you can’t assign pet talents.

If there’s a button in options to turn this off then try that. I’m not on PTR yet, wish I was. Waiting to test pet tanking >_-

I’ve noticed also that the option to preview your talent points before setting them in stone hasn’t carried across to pets. I could have sworn it did, the first day I was on, but since then I’ve had to turn that off to get them to stick.

Additionally, the points were carrying across the board per pet type, rather than individually per pet. I have two ferocity pets and the points I picked for one were showing for the other automatically. I don’t know that I approve of that behaviour.

yo, BRK, all you gotta do is log out then back in. presto! fixed.

  6. Klinderas on February 28th, 2009 2:44 pm

    @Justo
Nonetheless, the issue remains that we have to do this “resetting” buisness. No one should have to!

It’s a waste of time, really.

  7. JUSTO on February 28th, 2009 3:23 pm

    @Klin

this is true, but its also the PTR. cant expect the PTR to be even slightly bug free. this wont be the case on live. this is a bit more alarming than the ever annoying cower/prowl bug, which makes me believe whole heartedly that itll be fixed by 3.1 live time.

  8. Grim on February 28th, 2009 4:07 pm

Since I’m unable to get onto the PTR just yet, can I ask someone to give me the numbers on the new BM-only pet talents such as Wild Hunt and Shark Bite or w/e it is called? Getting really curious now!

  9. JUSTO on February 28th, 2009 4:15 pm

    @ Grim

with both SV and MM i was running ~3k dps

BM i was at 3700 dps

  10. Grim on February 28th, 2009 4:28 pm

Appreciate the response but I don’t think I was clear, I was just curious about what exactly Wild Hunt, Shark Attack and the last new BM talent did exactly (MMOchamp only lists “increased dmg” for Shark Attack, but not how much), sorry for the confusion

  11. JUSTO on February 28th, 2009 4:48 pm

    ah

i can answer this as well

    shark attack – http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v628/flamez28454/SharkAttack.jpg

wild hunt (”increases the contribution your pet gets from your stamina and attack power by 20%/40%”) – http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v628/flamez28454/WildHunt.jpg

  12. Noah on February 28th, 2009 4:58 pm

Grim, WoWHead has 3.1 talent calculators up for pets so you can check the talent specifics there – http://ptr.wowhead.com/?petcalc

As for the borkedness here, I’m just surprised this isn’t on live.

  13. Grim on February 28th, 2009 5:05 pm

Mother of a hamster.. how I missed that I shan’t ever know, thank you.

Funny enough, I just now got on the PTR too, and I’m not having these issues on the EU PTR; Pet talented abilities show up and work fine.

I’m sorry, I just couldn’t stop laughing after this post, it made my day. In honor, here is a Wordle for y’all! :)

yeah its just a UI error really. Disable the “preview talent changes” from the Display page of your Interface options and you can actually set the talents. All you were doing at this point, was previewing them.

  16. Gort on February 28th, 2009 10:31 pm

It’s probably part of the Cower/Prowl bugfix;)

  17. Ounitron on March 1st, 2009 12:40 am

For the record, you can’t test tank talents right now. Silverback, which is supposed to heal the pet for like 4% of his max health heals for about 20% instead, which basically makes the pet nigh-invulnerable to mobs. I went in with my Crocolisk slime and solo’d the first half of Drak’tharon. He killed Trollgore alone, and proly could have solo’d Dred if i wanted to sit through it. I was pretty stoked, and then really dissapointed.

  18. Vishkil on March 1st, 2009 3:32 am

My own experiments have revealed that the issue of Pet Spellbooks being robbed of abilities is not due to the ‘testing talents’ feature. It’s something to do with pet despawning.

I spent 19 talents on my Hydradile and they counted fine. In spellbook, stat increases etc. I logged out and back in, all stats were reduced again and spellbook empty. Pet talent pane said pet had 19 talents spent but still had 20 to spend. The window showed my spec, the 19 spent points in the right places, but I could not spend/unspend any more.

Until this bug gets fixed, the easy way is to go to pet trainer and Unlearn Pet Talents. Of course, not sure if dismounting etc. causes this bug too. If soo, stick to the Training Dummies.

Its the PTR, gonna be bugs. Talking of bugs, LSD Wasp is now a blue wasp, they took away the special one :(

  20. Joe on March 1st, 2009 5:01 am

Well, now she is on LSD again, so maybe it was another PTR glitch!

  21. Chris on March 1st, 2009 6:39 am

Hmm with Ferocity pets it looks like taking all damage-skills makes it impossible to pick Phoenix an LYW… this might be quite a reduce for BM-damage in certain fights again.

Also I’ve just grown used to having one point in charge and improved cower…

Shark attack just merely puts the Cat damage back to where it is now on life after reducing Ferocity-damge by 5%.

  22. Kemonojin on March 1st, 2009 6:44 am

When I got into the PTR, I couldn’t do anything with my pet talents. No points placed, no way to place them. Ended up having to untrain then retrain, and it worked ok, but then there was one talent setup for each tree. My devilsaur and wasp both had the same talents, as did the hydra and ooze.

I didn’t run into the disappearing pet thing, although I only tried the remote stable thing twice, and just switched from dino to wasp and back.

Any idea yet when this is coming out? Even as forked as it is, it makes beastmaster playable, and I don’t want to switch to the flavor of the week. My guild is pushing me to go survival, and I don’t want to.

And post-free says…Surprise. It worked the first time.)

  23. Swiftfeet on March 1st, 2009 8:48 am

All you have to do is go to the pet trainer and untrain pet talents, then redo them, you will have to do this almost every time you switch specs and/or pets.

  24. Eric on March 1st, 2009 10:45 am

Im not trying to troll or anything – but you should probably post bugs on the ptr realm forums, not your blog. Maybe stick to changes and advancements in the hunter class here?

I’m just saying, the last 3 posts on here have been bugs that are going to be fixed. Why blog about them? Why not blog about how much BM changed, how it changed, or how you expect them to tweak it before it goes live? Things we want to hear, even if it’s opinions.

  25. Brian on March 1st, 2009 12:12 pm

    I kinda agree with Eric.

  26. Jedigoof on March 1st, 2009 1:11 pm

The way I look at it is this is BRK’s blog, he ca write about what he feels is important to him. I am sure the PTR forums do have plenty of discussion on these bugs too, so why no ttalk about the bugs here to?

  27. Dalaila on March 1st, 2009 1:12 pm

15% haste is now added without using a quiver so we finally got a new bag. But what about lower level hunters? I doubt a level 40 will benefit from 15% as quivers did NOT buff you a +15% before higher levels, right?

  28. Fluffywumpki of Kilrogg on March 1st, 2009 6:13 pm

    Dalaila,
They do, actually. It’s just that the bonus at lower levels only affects Autoshot.

  29. Tora on March 2nd, 2009 4:14 am

Well others have already answered this, but you can fix that by either
    a. relogging
    b. respeccing your pet
    :)

A similar thing happened to me one time when none of the glyphs I knew I had were in the spell book, just some symbols that I cannot click and which didn’t give any tool-tip. Which also affected my DPS in a raid.

Who knew that something so “integral” can be so arbitrarily blocked by a bad log-in?

  31. Kitehlove on March 17th, 2009 2:18 pm

the pet’s spells that come from talents are not being created in the spellbook. We’re not getting Rabid or Call of the Wild or Charge or anything else.
How does that work like their completely gone or you have to train for them =/?
