Dualities
Reading the PTR patch notes is crucial for determining a path towards the upcoming realities of our class.
Reading the PTR patch notes usually results in headaches and spittle-shrieks.
The difference between any raiding-hunter spec and any PvP-hunter spec could be massive. If you like to raid and PvP, dual-specs is going to make you cry with joy.
The difference between a 10-man SV hunter raiding spec and a 25-man SV hunter raiding spec could be as little as one point moved from the BM tree to the SV tree. One thousand gold for dual-specs for that?
We loathe the achievement system – although we don’t want it abolished – and refuse to try to max our achievement points for the sake of having… a lot of achievement points.
We would really like to try to do the heroic instance achievements, not for the drake, but for the challenge.
Writing for Project Lore is no different than writing for anywhere else.
Getting ready to do the live show is inducing stage-fright the likes of which we haven’t experienced since the 7th grade.
Our guild has mastered Malygos, both 10 and 25-person versions.
There’s really no reason at all for us to run Malygos anymore, and we’ve not gotten a single piece of loot from him.
Raiding as an SV hunter and topping the damage-meters is not harder work than being a BM hunter, but it is much different.
The pleasure we’re getting out of maximizing the potential of our SV build is just as satisfying as it was while mastering the BM tree.
Getting another bag slot when the quiver/ammo pouch mechanic goes away is going to be wonderful in so many ways.
We are not looking forward to the day when we have to remind hunters what a quiver was. We have to link the Rhok so people know that an epic hunter quest even exists. All you old-school players out there, can you imagine not knowing what a Rhok is?
We can’t wait for Ulduar.
We’re going to miss Naxxramas.
Our older MacBook is totally dead. We’ve replaced every part but the screen and the motherboard and it still won’t work. It’s four years old; we give up.
Finding a $300 MacBook on an auction or trading website has been proven to be impossible.

I push my fingers in to my eyes …
“We would really like to try to do the heroic instance achievements, not for the drake, but for the challenge”
In a forum one of the members of the guild that killed Kelthuzad within 3 days of the opening of LK (largely with gear acquired at 70) suggested that heroic instance achievements are, for now, the only true hard core content in Northrend

i remeber when the pets followed you while you were mounted
I can see an old school player going on about it in Trade.. “Back in my day when we were wiping on Illidan we didn’t have this fancy STACKING AMMO, we had goddamn QUIVERS!”
Yea, I can use that extra bag space for holding Off-Spec Shammy loot to justify the 1000g I’ll spend to have a mend pet spec. Crit heals!
I disagree with your assessment on Malygos. Two of the best items, by a LONG shot, and a third, by a narrow margin, drop off Malygos 25. The fact that your guild has mastered it means that it should take no more then 20-30 minutes to do, for the chance at two massive upgrades, is worth doing all in itself. Effort to reward ratio is very high, once you’ve got a group that’s mastered the fight.
Also, BRK, 10 man Malygos has one of the two BiS ring for you. Like Tea said above, 25 man Maly has a ton of BiS items for you. What are you thinking?
“Raiding as an SV hunter and topping the damage-meters is not harder work than being a BM hunter, but it is much different.”
Blizzard disagrees with you sir. GC has commented that the more complicated rotations (SV) deserve to have higher dps potential when performed at a high level of accuracy. Nice try though.
And having to add all the pet abilities and positioning your pet out of the goo every so often doesn’t add complexity. My shot rotation may not be difficult but keeping my suicidal pets alive can be.

I love my MacBook Pro. I use it for all my computing need software development, managing 80 dell win computers and the network they are connected to and of course wow.
Good luck in your MacBook quest.
I don’t know… I found survival to be a much more challenging spec than BM pre 3.0.8. Post, they may be closer now that they have to weave arcane shots in, but being really good at survival means having to do things like not use a GCD when it’s available because you know it would cut into the availability of explosive shot. Timing like that while running around and fighting the boss was a real challenge for me when I switched over.
I found SV to be absolutely no more difficult, but I did find it to be a highly irritating spec. I hated it so much that I went back to BM the same day. If you think BM is easier, I challenge you to play it to the highest level on Sartharion with 3 drakes up. Do that, keep your pet alive and stay alive yourself while rating high on the damage meters and you will beging to understand the difficulty level that can exist in BM.
Oldschool? Fixed that for ya.
“I can see an old school player going on about it in Trade.. ‘Back in my day when we were wiping on Drakkisath we didn’t have this fancy STACKING AMMO, we had goddamn QUIVERS! And +spirit on our gear too!’”
“Do that, keep your pet alive and stay alive yourself while rating high on the damage meters and you will beging to understand the difficulty level that can exist in BM.”
Keeping your pet alive as SV in 3d Sarth takes more skill imo. Less health and less heals with SV pets. Think about it.
And you know if SV is more difficult by speccing into it for a couple hours? Cmon.
I think BM is immensely more enjoyable than SV, we’re Hunters its SUPPOSED to be all ’bout the pet. Still I might give MM a go looks like it could be fun
deluded patch is diluted
I also loathe Achievements but I DO want them removed from the game, or at least limited to the heroic level group ones. All they do is promote selfish play. They do nothing positive for guild dynamics (other than the afore mentioned heroic group ones). They DID however buy Bliz time to finish the expansion whilst folks ran all over the place doing what they had already done before! Lemmings!
I ran SV for a little over 2 weeks. It is in no way more challenging than BM or probably MM. It’s just watching different CD’s and timings nothing more, nothing less, nothing difficult. All specs of hunter are easy to play and less easy to master. For Bliz to reward one with better output potential is pretty lame. I didn’t play BM for the dps but for the fun. Once dual spec comes out I’ll probably have one of each spec for flexibilities sake.
Looking forward to Ulduar and dreading Ulduar. The vehicle component of just getting there is highly annoying, the mechanics of vehicles is not well done. I loathe the gimmicky fights (Malygos!) They need to give us an option.
I still have my rhok and lok
I tried BM from lvl 70 to 80 (intrestingly enough, that’s also when I started reading BRK) but I am a MM at heart and speced back. I hurts to see the SV hunter out preform me by so very large of a margin, but I simply have more fun as MM.
I’ll stand up and proudly announce: I Love Achievements. This is the silly stuff I’ve been doing since I started playing the game, and to have a list of silly things I haven’t tried yet? Outstanding! And now your gonna give me rewards for doing some of the harder ones? I love it!
When will this first live show be airing? I’d never been to Project Lore but I started checking it out a week or two ago and they do some very nice work over there. Good Luck and Have Fun BRK.
I’m stoked for dual specs because, like you mentioned, I LOVE PvP and also enjoy raiding. I can finally compete in raids instead of saying, ‘Sorry guys, I’m spec’d PvP.’ Thanks for the great blog. /hug
“Keeping your pet alive as SV in 3d Sarth takes more skill imo. Less health and less heals with SV pets. Think about it.”
The thing is that your average SV Hunter doesn’t care if his pet dies or not, since he isn’t reliant on the amount of DPS it contributes
I still think they are stealing the idea of Dual-Specs from City of Heroes, not even 5 months ago CoH came out with Dual-Specs and now WoW is doing it
Is that not the tiniest bit of suspicousness?
In turn, Yari, our pet is important as BM…so keeping him alive is…SO very important. That is why we have different specs….they have/offer a different play style. So the part about keeping our pet alive and when to rotate/use different pet abilities is the harder part of BM at a higher level …it’s like apples and oranges, still fruit, but comparably different…but still equivalently hard in their different aspects.
I am so very tired of people shouting about who’s spec is harder/the best…there are pros and cons to BM/MM/SV and it doesn’t make one better than the other. (Now I am not saying that people in this bit of comments has said that…I’m just saying this in general.
)
Remember feign death to set a trap?
I also remember when flare was a straight line and was near instant. (No travel time) so spotting rogues was quite easy.
Aimed shot was a 6 second cast.
I’ve found that I can shut most people up when they complain about the “easy” or “hard” spec requiring less/more effort by reminding them that at the end of the day… we’re all just sitting around punching keys on a computer. Often the only ones who attempt to argue past this point are the folks who get no other form of excerise.
“we’re Hunters its SUPPOSED to be all ’bout the pet. ”
Nope
Being a BM hunter is all about the pet, the rest of us feel differently.
“I’ve found that I can shut most people up when they complain about the “easy” or “hard” spec requiring less/more effort by reminding them that at the end of the day… we’re all just sitting around punching keys on a computer.”
I’ve found people that pick this argument are bad at stringing those buttons pushes together to compete for a raid spot. Sure, it’s a game, so is football, baseball, and soccer, but people are just as serious about hobbies and games as they are about anything.
If it’s not about you and your pet then I feel like a caster wearing mail. I have played SV for over 2 months now and am only doing so because I am a meter watcher and beating out my guilds fury warrior feels nice. Let’s be honest though. The removal of shot clipping leveled the play field. There is no trick anymore. No real skill to weaving a rotation.
Actually, you can absolutely find a Macbook at an auction. I work for http://www.GovernmentAuctions.org and we aggregate information on all types of ongoing seized and surplus government auctions which include a plethora of computer auctions. Sign up on our site for immediate access to the database! I know, shameless plug.

BM hunters are supposed to keep the pet alive… everyone else NOPE
. And to be really honest I think that pets should ALWAYS be considered less important than us: in real life hunters kill stuff alone, helped by pets (spotting the prey, blocking it or just getting it back after it’s killed).
Our pets are helpful companions but the real deal is how the player handles his gun/bow. That’s why I like more MM spec.
“BM hunters are supposed to keep the pet alive… everyone else NOPE”
Yeah why would SV hunter want to keep up 18% or their damage?
“in real life hunters kill stuff alone, helped by pets”
Yeah and in real life I polymorphed my boss into a penguin.
> Yeah and in real life I polymorphed

Me too, so what?
Not too bright eh Dalaila?
Isn’t the Rhok the guy who gives cooking quests in Shat? If not, I have no idea who he is. Off to wowwiki to find out!
Any attempt to justify anything in WoW with some aspect of “In Real Life” is ridiculous.
“All you old-school players out there, can you imagine not knowing what a Rhok is?”
I was to little a hunter to attempt Rhok back in the day, but thanks to the achievement system, There’s always groups heading into ony and MC these days. I’ll have my chance for it yet! Elune bless the achivement system!
A guildie asked me the other day, why would you want an old epic bow, you’d never use it….
Pfft. the youth of today, they just dont understand.
I dont know how anyone keeps their pet alive on Heigan or Sartharian, much less Sartharian+3. I will be setting up dual spec with a BM spec for pet friendly fights, and a different one, SV or MM, for pet unfriendly fights.

You are welcome. You are no longer a noob hunter.
I’m a quasi-old school player, don’t have a hunter and at this rate, won’t have one. But I miss the old epic quest chains of Vanilla WoW.
I won’t have Rhok, but someday I WILL get Benediction on my Priest. 4 years later . . . at level 80, I finished Tier 0.5.
Wow, that’s almost depressing.
@Brian
Wow. Not sure I have noticed you around here much before. Are you new to BRK or have you been around for a while? Must be new because I think I would have noticed comments as arrogant and hostile as yours.
Just being honest Kolan.
Oh and Kiya, Heigan pet survivability is partly up to the tank on that fight. If they pull him far enough into the safe area your pet won’t get touched, and then call your pet to you while you do the dance, simple. Sarth 3d is easy too, but it takes a little more multi-tasking to keep it alive the entire time. It just takes practice.
My blog being what it is, I think it’s a tragedy if I come across a hunter who hasn’t done the Rhok quest. I’m going to start making blog posts about any hunters who have done the quest recently if I come across them on the forums or elsewhere (if anyone finds one, let me know… and send a pic too!).

In regards to the live show – Don’t be nervous BRK, you have such a devoted following that you could basically sit there in silence and we’d think it’s the best. Besides, you always seem to put so much thought and work into your projects that I’m absolutely sure you have nothing to worry about.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates the achievements… if they hadn’t wasted time on those, they might have fixed some real problems…
It does matter to keep the pet alive as SV. I am usually 2nd or 3rd on meter in our 25 man runs (top three are all SV hunters), we do sarth 3d and all the other 10-25 man raids each week. Even as survival my pet pulls 670-700dps. I don’t care what you spec, losing 700dps on a boss is a big deal. Granted it is not the 1500 that a BM might lose, but it is far from something to scoff at. You have to keep your pet alive regardless of spec.
@Brian
One day, when you are older, you will realize being honest is not the same as being an ass.
Just being honest.
“you will realize being honest is not the same as being an ass. Just being honest.”
Gorpa you have no idea what you’re talking about. Go back to thinking that you’re witty around your friends and stop posting on forums that prove that you aren’t.
Hey, Brian.
Imagine me doing that thing where I point at my eyeballs with two fingers and then at you with two fingers and then back at my eyeballs with two fingers.
Also, imagine it being kind of intimidating.
Lol, TJ, you silly.
Oh and TJ, “I carried a watermelon.”
@Brian
Being honest does not require being rude. Don’t dilute the message.
People will appreciate it.
Rude is subjective.
Ok, enough from all sides. I am now pointing at eyeballs-pointing at you-pointing at eyeballs at all of you. No more comments on this matter, please.
Last word is last.
Yes it is.

Come back in a week.
@ Phyllixia
Exactly why my guild loves doing Old World raids with me I got the Sinew and now all I need is my leaf! Look out Mr Dorigato or whatever that boss is, I can never pronounce old bosses right
@Dalalia
Thank god for over geared tanks and bored healers with too much mana! Mend Pet = Eh I got some mana to spare I guess I’ll use it
and finally…1000g to have a second spec? I was reluctant about paying 1000g to fly in northrend (but then of course BRK made that video of his sweet proto drake the same day I hit 77 and I had no choice) besides I love my MC core hound/spirit beast combo WAY too much to respec unless it was absolutely necessary
phew now I know how BRK feels after a good rant!
did anyone check to see if brian tej, ip address wise?
just a thought…
Anyways, as usual, Blizzard continues to delude and confuse us.
This is why I stick to live…
re: Keeping pets alive on Sarth+3…
I’ve found pet survival during the encounter, regardless of which spec hunter, to come down to two things (whether to call it easy or hard is up to each reader/player):
1) Like Pavlov’s Dogs, you must condition the stimulus response…hear “Run away little girl”…recall pet.
2) Special care during twilight torment. SV pets have less health & receive less love from mend pet, but they do less damage and therefore take less twilight damage. BM pets are sturdier and get bigger mending ticks, but they also do more damage so get crushed by the torment.
Slip up in either of these situations, and the pet is pretty much gone. BM can rez quickly, which is nice since you rarely get more than a few seconds to stand still rezzing. Early enough in the fight, and SV will want to find the time (usually immediately after you position in a gap in the flame wall, that gives the biggest amount of stationary time assuming no fissure appears under you) to rez because 15% of DPS is good stuff.
Heart of the Phoenix might change things a little and give you one get out of jail free card, but I don’t spec into that one so I couldn’t tell ya.
/agree totally
