this would be perfect for reanacting a war of hunters (allys without weels, horde with)

  11. Buggrit on March 23rd, 2009 6:18 pm

If they were really spirit beasts they’d be hiding while a load of hunters circled the table looking for them.

  12. Timaro on March 23rd, 2009 6:28 pm

That’s not a phalanx, it’s a wedge. A phalanx is a rectangular troop formation wherein each infantry soldier can assist the soldier next to him. (think Roman tortoise formation)

The wedge is a triangular attack formation most commonly used by charging heavy cavalry, in order to break up the opposing army’s battle lines.

/jealous! ;) I’d be frightened if I saw that glow-kitty army coming towards me.

Timaro already commented exactly what I was thinking lol.

  16. Anonymous on March 24th, 2009 8:53 am

Yes, it is a wedge but c’mon, how often do you get to use the ‘phalanx’ anymore? It’s such an awesome word. ;)

Speaking of Spirit Beasts. I came across one for the second time over the weekend (I got mine about 2.5 months ago. Looking for the same length of time.) and I couldn’t give thing away. Killed me a little. I even spent about 15 minutes whispering every hunter in the basin and not one of them was BM spec’ed!!! arghhhh!!! I just couldn’t believe it! That’s my 2 cents that has nothing with what was everyone else is responding to.

  19. Grindurbonze on March 24th, 2009 12:14 pm

    awesome!

Just tamed my Spirit Beast tonight! He is absolutely glorious! The experience I felt when I found him was just what everyone described. He absolutely takes your breath away.

  23. John on March 25th, 2009 9:55 am

These toys are absolutely terrible! Im astonished as to how people convinced themselves to buy them.

Its obvious BRK is milking his entity on the internet by making hapless wood cutouts and selling them. I’ve no idea how much these cost to buy, but if its over $4 inc P&P, then sir/madam you have truly been robbed!

BRK hasn’t even gone to the effort of painting them, they are left in the [what seem to be] unprotected wood. Infact i wouldn’t be surprised if you received these with splintered edges.

    This is utter junk!

  24. John/Aaranay on March 25th, 2009 10:09 am

Actually, John, I made them- not BRK (as he had originally said when these were offered for sale.

I’m sorry you think so little of my work, but you are certainly not required to buy one. They are not painted because it goes against my business principle of making a safe, well sanded, unfinished toy. I started my company shortly after the massive toy recalls of 2007, and leaving the wood unfinished was an important decision for me not only as a business owner, but more importantly as a father of two.

    I wish you the best.

Ugh… Ignore that Troll named John. Many of us have enjoyed wood toys exactly like those and I quite looked forward to painting my own if I could have gotten one.

Everyone else is very happy about them. :)

Just got my twin spirit beasts (toys) for my twin boys. I love them! Thanks Mr. Greco for making a nice pet toy for my little alts!

  27. John/Aaranay on March 28th, 2009 10:32 pm

You are quite welcome! I’m glad you like them :)

    /wave BRK…

I couldn’t believe what I read yesterday when I saw that BRK was saying farewell to WoW. I started playing vanilla WoW as a hunter and it has been my main ever since, but it wasn’t until I discovered the BigRedKitty blog a couple years ago that I ha…

    Sorry Timaro, you’re wrong too.
A phalanx =/= Roman tortoise formation.
The shields were carried in the left hand, and the spears in the right, with all of the shields overlapping one another. The spears were rested on the wedges in between the shields, and were jabbed at the enemy.
A phalanx was yes, a square of infantry, but it’s purpose was not to assist the soldier next to you; rather it was to create a near-impenetrable line of spears, with all of the shields overlapping each other.
And cavalry wedges were seldom used to break up a line of infantry. Think flanking maneuvers, more like.

For future reference, please don’t try to troll on a comment board if your information is inaccurate.
